1Ee Mungu, mataifa yameuvamia urithi wako, wamelinajisi Hekalu lako takatifu, wameifanya Yerusalemu kuwa magofu. 2Wametoa maiti za watumishi kuwa chakula cha ndege wa angani na nyama ya watakatifu wako kwa wanyama wa nchi. 3Wamemwaga damu kama maji kuzunguka Yerusalemu yote, wala hakuna yeyote wa kuwazika. 4Tumekuwa kitu cha aibu kwa jirani zetu, cha dharau na mzaha kwa wale wanaotuzunguka. 5Hata lini, Ee Bwana? Je, wewe utakasirika milele? Wivu wako utawaka kama moto hadi lini? 6Mwaga ghadhabu yako kwa mataifa yasiyokukubali, juu ya falme za hao wasioliitia jina lako, 7kwa maana wamemrarua Yakobo na kuharibu nchi ya makao yake. 8Usituhesabie dhambi za baba zetu, huruma yako na itujie hima, kwa maana tu wahitaji mno. 9Ee Mungu Mwokozi wetu, utusaidie, kwa ajili ya utukufu wa jina lako; tuokoe na kutusamehe dhambi zetu kwa ajili ya jina lako. 10Kwa nini mataifa waseme, “Yuko wapi Mungu wenu?” Mbele ya macho yetu, dhihirisha kati ya mataifa kwamba unalipiza kisasi damu iliyomwagwa ya watumishi wako. 11Kilio cha huzuni cha wafungwa kifike mbele zako; kwa nguvu za mkono wako hifadhi wale waliohukumiwa kufa. 12Walipize jirani zetu mara saba vifuani mwao aibu walizovurumisha juu yako, Ee Bwana. 13Ndipo sisi watu wako, kondoo wa malisho yako, tutakusifu milele; toka kizazi hadi kizazi tutasimulia sifa zako.

1God, the nations have come into your inheritance. They have defiled your holy temple. They have laid Jerusalem in heaps. 2They have given the dead bodies of your servants to be food for the birds of the sky, the flesh of your saints to the animals of the earth. 3Their blood they have shed like water around Jerusalem. There was no one to bury them. 4We have become a reproach to our neighbors, a scoffing and derision to those who are around us. 5How long, Yahweh? Will you be angry forever? Will your jealousy burn like fire? 6Pour out your wrath on the nations that don’t know you; on the kingdoms that don’t call on your name; 7For they have devoured Jacob, and destroyed his homeland. 8Don’t hold the iniquities of our forefathers against us. Let your tender mercies speedily meet us, for we are in desperate need. 9Help us, God of our salvation, for the glory of your name. Deliver us, and forgive our sins, for your name’s sake. 10Why should the nations say, “Where is their God?” Let it be known among the nations, before our eyes, that vengeance for your servants’ blood is being poured out. 11Let the sighing of the prisoner come before you. According to the greatness of your power, preserve those who are sentenced to death. 12Pay back to our neighbors seven times into their bosom their reproach with which they have reproached you, Lord. 13So we, your people and sheep of your pasture, will give you thanks forever. We will praise you forever, to all generations.

Heidenen zijn gekomen in Uw erfenis; zij hebben den tempel Uwer heiligheid verontreinigd; zij hebben Jeruzalem tot steenhopen gesteld. 2Zij hebben de dode lichamen Uwer knechten aan het gevogelte des hemels tot spijs gegeven; het vlees Uwer gunstgenoten aan het gedierte des lands. 3Zij hebben hun bloed rondom Jeruzalem als water vergoten; en er was niemand, die hen begroef. 4Wij zijn onzen naburen een smaadheid geworden; een spot en schimp dien, die rondom ons zijn. 5Hoe lang, HEERE? Zult Gij eeuwiglijk toornen? Zal Uw ijver als vuur branden? 6Stort Uw grimmigheid uit over de heidenen, die U niet kennen, en over de koninkrijken, die Uw Naam niet aanroepen. 7Want men heeft Jakob opgegeten, en zij hebben zijn liefelijke woning verwoest. 8Gedenk ons de vorige misdaden niet; haast U, laat Uw barmhartigheden ons voorkomen; want wij zijn zeer dun geworden. 9Help ons, o God onzes heils! ter oorzake van de eer Uws Naams; en red ons, en doe verzoening over onze zonden, om Uws Naams wil. 10Waarom zouden de heidenen zeggen: Waar is hun God? Laat de wraak des vergoten bloeds Uwer knechten onder de heidenen voor onze ogen bekend worden. 11Laat het gekerm der gevangenen voor Uw aanschijn komen; behoud overig de kinderen des doods, naar de grootheid Uws arms. 12En geef onze naburen zevenvoudig weder in hun schoot hun smaad, waarmede zij U, o Heere! gesmaad hebben. 13Zo zullen wij, Uw volk en de schapen Uwer weide, U loven in eeuwigheid, van geslacht tot geslacht; wij zullen Uw roem vertellen.
