Salmi 140

1Per il Capo de’ musici. Salmo di Davide. Liberami, o Eterno, dall’uomo malvagio; guardami dall’uomo violento, 2i quali macchinano delle malvagità nel loro cuore, e continuamente muovono guerre. 3Aguzzano la loro lingua come il serpente, hanno un veleno d’aspide sotto le loro labbra. Sela. 4Preservami, o Eterno, dalle mani dell’empio, guardami dall’uomo violento, i quali han macchinato di farmi cadere. 5I superbi hanno nascosto per me un laccio e delle funi, m’hanno teso una rete sull’orlo del sentiero, m’hanno posto degli agguati. Sela. 6Io ho detto all’Eterno: Tu sei il mio Dio; porgi l’orecchio, o Eterno, al grido delle mie supplicazioni. 7O Eterno, o Signore, che sei la forza della mia salvezza, tu hai coperto il mio capo nel giorno dell’armi. 8Non concedere, o Eterno, agli empi quel che desiderano; non dar compimento ai loro disegni, che talora non s’esaltino. Sela. 9Sulla testa di quelli che m’attorniano ricada la perversità delle loro labbra! 10Cadano loro addosso dei carboni accesi! Siano gettati nel fuoco, in fosse profonde, donde non possano risorgere. 11Il maldicente non sarà stabilito sulla terra; il male darà senza posa la caccia all’uomo violento. 12Io so che l’Eterno farà ragione all’afflitto e giustizia ai poveri. 13Certo i giusti celebreranno il tuo nome; li uomini retti abiteranno alla tua presenza.

1Deliver me, Yahweh, from the evil man. Preserve me from the violent man; 2those who devise mischief in their hearts. They continually gather themselves together for war. 3They have sharpened their tongues like a serpent. Viper’s poison is under their lips. Selah. 4Yahweh, keep me from the hands of the wicked. Preserve me from the violent men who have determined to trip my feet. 5The proud have hidden a snare for me, they have spread the cords of a net by the path. They have set traps for me. Selah. 6I said to Yahweh, “You are my God.” Listen to the cry of my petitions, Yahweh. 7Yahweh, the Lord, the strength of my salvation, you have covered my head in the day of battle. 8Yahweh, don’t grant the desires of the wicked. Don’t let their evil plans succeed, or they will become proud. Selah. 9As for the head of those who surround me, let the mischief of their own lips cover them. 10Let burning coals fall on them. Let them be thrown into the fire, into miry pits, from where they never rise. 11An evil speaker won’t be established in the earth. Evil will hunt the violent man to overthrow him. 12I know that Yahweh will maintain the cause of the afflicted, and justice for the needy. 13Surely the righteous will give thanks to your name. The upright will dwell in your presence.

1Een psalm van David, voor den opperzangmeester. 2Red mij, HEERE! van den kwaden mens; behoed mij voor den man alles gewelds; 3Die veel kwaads in het hart denken, allen dag samenkomen om te oorlogen. 4Zij scherpen hun tong, als een slang; heet addervergift is onder hun lippen. Sela. 5Bewaar mij, HEERE! van de handen des goddelozen; behoed mij van den man alles gewelds; van hen, die mijn voeten denken weg te stoten. 6De hovaardigen hebben mij een strik verborgen, en koorden; zij hebben een net uitgespreid aan de zijde des wegs; valstrikken hebben zij mij gezet. Sela. 7Ik heb tot den HEERE gezegd: Gij zijt mijn God; neem ter ore, o HEERE! de stem mijner smekingen. 8HEERE, Heere, Sterkte mijns heils! Gij hebt mijn hoofd bedekt ten dage der wapening. 9Geef, HEERE! de begeerten des goddelozen niet; bevorder zijn kwaad voornemen niet; zij zouden zich verheffen. Sela. 10Aangaande het hoofd dergenen, die mij omringen, de overlast hunner lippen overdekke hen. 11Vurige kolen moeten op hen geschud worden; Hij doe hen vallen in het vuur, in diepe kuilen, dat zij niet weder opstaan. 12Een man van kwade tong zal op de aarde niet bevestigd worden; een boos man des gewelds, dien zal men jagen, totdat hij geheel verdreven is. 13Ik weet, dat de HEERE de rechtzaak des ellendigen, en het recht der nooddruftigen zal uitvoeren. Gewisselijk, de rechtvaardigen zullen Uw Naam loven; de oprechten zullen voor Uw aangezicht blijven.
