1L’anno undicesimo, il terzo mese, il primo giorno del mese, la parola dell’Eterno mi fu rivolta in questi termini: 2"Figliuol d’uomo, di’ a Faraone re d’Egitto, e alla sua moltitudine: A chi somigli tu nella tua grandezza? 3Ecco, l’Assiro era un cedro del Libano, dai bei rami, dall’ombra folta, dal tronco slanciato, dalla vetta sporgente fra il folto de’ rami. 4Le acque lo nutrivano, l’abisso lo facea crescere, andando, coi suoi fiumi, intorno al luogo dov’era piantato, mentre mandava i suoi canali a tutti gli alberi dei campi. 5Perciò la sua altezza era superiore a quella di tutti gli alberi della campagna, i suoi rami s’eran moltiplicati, e i suoi ramoscelli s’erano allungati per l’abbondanza delle acque che lo faceano sviluppare. 6Tutti gli uccelli del cielo s’annidavano fra i suoi rami, tutte le bestie dei campi figliavano sotto i suoi ramoscelli, e tutte le grandi nazioni dimoravano alla sua ombra. 7Era bello per la sua grandezza, per la lunghezza dei suoi rami, perché la sua radice era presso acque abbondanti. 8I cedri non lo sorpassavano nel giardino di Dio; i cipressi non uguagliavano i suoi ramoscelli, e i platani non eran neppure come i suoi rami; nessun albero nel giardino di Dio lo pareggiava in bellezza. 9Io l’avevo reso bello per l’abbondanza de’ suoi rami, e tutti gli alberi d’Eden, che sono nel giardino di Dio, gli portavano invidia. 10Perciò, così parla il Signore, l’Eterno: Perché era salito a tanta altezza e sporgeva la sua vetta tra il folto de’ rami e perché il suo cuore s’era insuperbito della sua altezza, 11io lo diedi in mano del più forte fra le nazioni perché lo trattasse a suo piacimento; per la sua empietà io lo scacciai. 12Degli stranieri, i più violenti fra le nazioni, l’hanno tagliato e l’han lasciato in abbandono; sui monti e in tutte le valli son caduti i suoi rami, i suoi ramoscelli sono stati spezzati in tutti i burroni del paese, e tutti i popoli della terra si son ritirati dalla sua ombra, e l’hanno abbandonato. 13Sul suo tronco caduto si posano tutti gli uccelli del cielo, e sopra i suoi rami stanno tutte le bestie de’ campi. 14Così è avvenuto affinché gli alberi tutti piantati presso alle acque non sian fieri della propria altezza, non sporgan più la vetta fra il folto de’ rami, e tutti gli alberi potenti che si dissetano alle acque non persistano nella loro fierezza; poiché tutti quanti son dati alla morte, alle profondità della terra, assieme ai figliuoli degli uomini, a quelli che scendon nella fossa. 15Così parla il Signore, l’Eterno: Il giorno ch’ei discese nel soggiorno de’ morti, io feci fare cordoglio; a motivo di lui velai l’abisso, ne arrestai i fiumi, e le grandi acque furon fermate; a motivo di lui abbrunai il Libano, e tutti gli alberi de’ campi vennero meno a motivo di lui. 16Al rumore della sua caduta fece tremare le nazioni, quando lo feci scendere nel soggiorno de’ morti con quelli che scendono nella fossa; e nelle profondità della terra si consolarono tutti gli alberi di Eden, i più scelti e i più belli del Libano, tutti quelli che si dissetavano alle acque. 17Anch’essi discesero con lui nel soggiorno de’ morti, verso quelli che la spada ha uccisi: verso quelli che erano il suo braccio, e stavano alla sua ombra in mezzo alle nazioni. 18A chi dunque somigli tu per gloria e per grandezza fra gli alberi d’Eden? Così tu sarai precipitato con gli alberi d’Eden nelle profondità della terra; tu giacerai in mezzo agl’incirconcisi, fra quelli che la spada ha uccisi. Tal sarà di Faraone con tutta la sua moltitudine, dice il Signore, l’Eterno".
1In the eleventh year, in the third month, in the first day of the month, Yahweh’s word came to me, saying, 2Son of man, tell Pharaoh king of Egypt, and to his multitude: Whom are you like in your greatness? 3Behold, the Assyrian was a cedar in Lebanon with beautiful branches, and with a forest-like shade, and of high stature; and its top was among the thick boughs. 4The waters nourished it, the deep made it to grow: its rivers ran all around its plantation; and it sent out its channels to all the trees of the field. 5Therefore its stature was exalted above all the trees of the field; and its boughs were multiplied, and its branches became long by reason of many waters, when it spread them out. 6All the birds of the sky made their nests in its boughs; and under its branches all the animals of the field gave birth to their young; and all great nations lived under its shadow. 7Thus was it beautiful in its greatness, in the length of its branches; for its root was by many waters. 8The cedars in the garden of God could not hide it; the fir trees were not like its boughs, and the plane trees were not as its branches; nor was any tree in the garden of God like it in its beauty. 9I made it beautiful by the multitude of its branches, so that all the trees of Eden, that were in the garden of God, envied it. 10Therefore thus said the Lord Yahweh: Because you are exalted in stature, and he has set his top among the thick boughs, and his heart is lifted up in his height; 11I will even deliver him into the hand of the mighty one of the nations; he shall surely deal with him; I have driven him out for his wickedness. 12Strangers, the terrible of the nations, have cut him off, and have left him: on the mountains and in all the valleys his branches are fallen, and his boughs are broken by all the watercourses of the land; and all the peoples of the earth are gone down from his shadow, and have left him. 13On his ruin all the birds of the sky shall dwell, and all the animals of the field shall be on his branches; 14to the end that none of all the trees by the waters exalt themselves in their stature, neither set their top among the thick boughs, nor that their mighty ones stand up on their height, even all who drink water: for they are all delivered to death, to the lower parts of the earth, in the midst of the children of men, with those who go down to the pit. 15Thus says the Lord Yahweh: In the day when he went down to Sheol I caused a mourning: I covered the deep for him, and I restrained its rivers; and the great waters were stayed; and I caused Lebanon to mourn for him, and all the trees of the field fainted for him. 16I made the nations to shake at the sound of his fall, when I cast him down to Sheol with those who descend into the pit; and all the trees of Eden, the choice and best of Lebanon, all that drink water, were comforted in the lower parts of the earth. 17They also went down into Sheol with him to those who are slain by the sword; yes, those who were his arm, who lived under his shadow in the midst of the nations. 18To whom are you thus like in glory and in greatness among the trees of Eden? yet you will be brought down with the trees of Eden to the lower parts of the earth: you shall lie in the midst of the uncircumcised, with those who are slain by the sword. This is Pharaoh and all his multitude, says the Lord Yahweh.
1Het gebeurde ook in het elfde jaar, in de derde maand, op den eersten der maand, dat des HEEREN woord tot mij geschiedde, zeggende: 2Mensenkind! zeg tot Farao, den koning van Egypte, en tot zijn menigte: Wien zijt gij gelijk in uw grootheid? 3Zie, Assur was een ceder op den Libanon, schoon van takken, schaduwachtig van loof, en hoog van stam, en zijn top was tussen dichte takken. 4De wateren maakten hem groot, de afgrond maakte hem hoog; die ging met zijn stromen rondom zijn planting, en zond zijn waterleidingen uit tot alle bomen des velds. 5Daarom werd zijn stam hoger dan alle bomen des velds; en zijn takjes werden menigvuldig, en zijn scheuten lang, vanwege de grote wateren, als hij uitschoot. 6Alle vogelen des hemels nestelden op zijn takjes, en alle dieren des velds teelden onder zijn scheuten; en alle grote volken zaten onder zijn schaduw. 7Alzo was hij schoon in zijn grootheid en in de lengte zijner takken, omdat zijn wortel aan grote wateren was. 8De cederen in Gods hof verduisterden hem niet, de dennebomen waren zijn takken niet gelijk, en de kastanjebomen waren niet gelijk zijn scheuten; geen boom in Gods hof was hem gelijk in zijn schoonheid. 9Ik had hem zo schoon gemaakt door de veelheid zijner takken, dat alle bomen van Eden, die in Gods hof waren, hem benijdden. 10Daarom, zo zegt de Heere HEERE: Omdat gij u verheven hebt over uw stam, ja, hij stak zijn top op boven het midden der dichte takken, en zijn hart verhief zich over zijn hoogte; 11Daarom gaf Ik hem in de hand van den machtigste der heidenen, dat die hem rechtschapen zou behandelen; Ik dreef hem uit om zijn goddeloosheid. 12En vreemden, de tirannigste der heidenen, roeiden hem uit en verlieten hem; zijn takken vielen op de bergen en in alle valleien, en zijn scheuten werden verbroken bij alle stromen des lands; en alle volken der aarde gingen af uit zijn schaduw, en verlieten hem. 13Alle vogelen des hemels woonden op zijn omgevallen stam, en alle dieren des velds waren op zijn scheuten; 14Opdat zich geen waterrijke bomen verheffen over hun stam, en hun top niet opsteken boven het midden der dichte takken, en geen bomen, die water drinken, op zichzelven staan vanwege hun hoogte; want zij zijn allen overgegeven ter dood, tot het onderste der aarde, in het midden der mensenkinderen, tot degenen, die in den kuil nederdalen. 15Zo zegt de Heere HEERE: Ten dage, als hij ter helle nederdaalde, maakte Ik een treuren; Ik bedekte om zijnentwil den afgrond, en weerde de stromen van dien, en de grote wateren werden geschut; en Ik maakte den Libanon om zijnentwil zwart, en al het geboomte des velds was om zijnentwil bewonden. 16Van het geluid zijns vals deed Ik de heidenen beven, als Ik hem ter helle deed nederdalen, met degenen, die in den kuil nederdalen; en alle bomen van Eden, de keur en het beste van Libanon, alle bomen, die water drinken, troostten zich in het onderste der aarde. 17Diezelve daalden ook met hem neder ter helle, tot de verslagenen van het zwaard; en die zijn arm geweest waren, die onder zijn schaduw in het midden der heidenen gezeten hadden. 18Wien zijt gij alzo gelijk in heerlijkheid en grootheid, onder de bomen van Eden? Ja, gij zult nedergevoerd worden met de bomen van Eden, tot het onderste der aarde; in het midden der onbesnedenen zult gij liggen, met de verslagenen door het zwaard. Dat is Farao, en zijn ganse menigte, spreekt de Heere HEERE.
