1Nhằm ngày mười lăm tháng hai, sau khi ra khỏi xứ Ê-díp-tô, cả hội chúng Y-sơ-ra-ên ở nơi Ê-lim đi đến đồng vắng Sin, nằm về giữa khoảng Ê-lim và Si-na -i. 2Cả hội chúng Y-sơ-ra-ên oán trách Môi-se và A-rôn tại nơi đồng vắng, 3nói cùng hai người rằng: Ôi! thà rằng chúng tôi chịu chết về tay Ðức Giê-hô-va tại xứ Ê-díp-tô, khi còn ngồi kề nồi thịt và ăn bánh chán hê! Vì hai người dẫn dắt chúng tôi vào nơi đồng vắng nầy đều bị chết đói. 4Ðức Giê-hô-va bèn phán cùng Môi-se rằng: Nầy, ta sẽ từ trên trời cao làm mưa bánh xuống cho các ngươi. Dân sự sẽ đi ra, mỗi ngày nào thâu bánh đủ cho ngày nấy, đặng ta thử dân coi có đi theo luật lệ của ta hay chăng. 5Qua ngày thứ sáu, dân sự sẽ dự bị phần đã góp, và sẽ được phần gấp bằng hai của mình thường thâu hằng ngày. 6Môi-se và A-rôn bèn nói cùng dân Y-sơ-ra-ên rằng: Chiều nay các ngươi sẽ nhận biết rằng ấy là Ðức Giê-hô-va đã rút các ngươi ra khỏi xứ Ê-díp-tô, 7và sáng mai sẽ thấy sự vinh quang của Ðức Giê-hô-va, vì Ngài đã nghe lời các ngươi oán trách Ngài rồi. Vả lại, chúng ta là ai mà các ngươi oán trách chúng ta? 8Môi-se nói: Chiều nầy Ðức Giê-hô-va sẽ phát thịt cho các ngươi ăn, rồi sáng mai bánh nhiều dư dật, vì Ngài đã nghe lời các ngươi oán trách Ngài rồi. Thế thì, chúng ta là ai? Những lời oán trách chẳng phải đổ về chúng ta đâu, nhưng về Ðức Giê-hô-va vậy. 9Môi-se nói cùng A-rôn rằng: Hãy nói cho cả hội chúng Y-sơ-ra-ên rằng: Các ngươi hãy đến trước mặt Ðức Giê-hô-va, vì Ngài đã nghe lời oán trách của các ngươi rồi. 10Vả, khi A-rôn nói cùng cả hội chúng Y-sơ-ra-ên, thì họ xây mặt về phía đồng vắng, thấy sự vinh quang của Ngài hiện ra trong đám mây. 11Ðức Giê-hô-va phán cùng Môi-se rằng: 12Ta đã nghe lời oán trách của dân Y-sơ-ra-ên. Vậy, ngươi hãy nói cùng chúng nó rằng: Lối chiều các ngươi sẽ ăn thịt; sáng mai sẽ ăn bánh no nê, và sẽ biết ta là Giê-hô-va Ðức Chúa Trời của các ngươi. 13Vậy, chiều lại, có chim cút bay lên phủ trên trại quân; đến sáng mai lại có một lớp sương ở chung quanh trại quân. 14Lớp sương đó tan đi, trên mặt đồng vắng thấy có vật chi nhỏ, tròn, như hột sương đóng trên mặt đất. 15Khi dân Y-sơ-ra-ên thấy, bèn hỏi nhau rằng: Cái chi vậy? Vì chẳng biết vật đó là gì. Môi-se bèn nói cùng dân sự rằng: Ấy là bánh mà Ðức Giê-hô-va ban cho các ngươi làm lương thực đó. 16Nầy là lời Ðức Giê-hô-va đã phán dặn: Hãy tùy sức ăn của mỗi người, và tùy số người trong trại mà góp cho mỗi tên một ô-me. 17Dân Y-sơ-ra-ên bèn làm như vậy, kẻ thì lượm nhiều, người thì lượm ít, 18cứ lường từ mô-me; ai lượm nhiều chẳng được trội, ai lượm ít cũng chẳng thiếu; mỗi người lượm vừa đủ sức mình ăn. 19Môi-se nói cùng dân sự rằng: Ðừng ai để dư lại cho đến sáng mai. 20Nhưng dân sự chẳng nghe theo lời Môi-se, một vài người để dư lại đến sáng mai; thì sâu hóa ở trong, vật sanh mùi hôi hám. Môi-se bèn nổi giận cùng họ. 21Vậy, hằng buổi sớm mai mỗi người lượm vừa đủ sức mình ăn; khi mặt trời nắng nóng thì vật đó tan ra. 22Ðến ngày thứ sáu, dân sự lượm lương thực gấp hai; mỗi người hai ô-me. Các hội trưởng đến thuật lại cho Môi-se rõ. 23Người đáp rằng: Ấy là lời Ðức Giê-hô-va đã phán rằng: Mai là ngày nghỉ, tức ngày Sa-bát thánh cho Ðức Giê-hô-va, hãy nướng món chi các ngươi muốn nướng, hãy nấu món chi các ngươi muốn nấu; hễ còn dư, hãy để dành đến sáng mai. 24Dân sự bèn để dành cho đến sáng mai, y như lời Môi-se đã truyền; vật đó chẳng sanh mùi hôi hám và cũng chẳng hóa sâu chút nào. 25Môi-se bèn nói rằng: Bữa nay hãy ăn đồ đó đi, vì là ngày Sa-bát của Ðức Giê-hô-va; hôm nay các ngươi chẳng tìm thấy vật đó ở trong đồng đâu. 26Các ngươi lượm trong sáu ngày, nhưng qua ngày thứ bảy là ngày Sa-bát, sẽ chẳng có đâu. 27Ngày thứ bảy, một vài người trong vòng dân sự ra đặng lượm lấy, nhưng tìm chẳng thấy chi hết. 28Ðức Giê-hô-va bèn phán cùng Môi-se rằng: Các ngươi chẳng chịu vâng giữ điều răn và luật pháp ta cho đến chừng nào? 29Hãy suy nghĩ rằng Ðức Giê-hô-va đã cho các ngươi ngày Sa-bát; vậy nên, đến ngày thứ sáu Ngài lại cho các ngươi lương thực đủ hai ngày. Trong ngày thứ bảy, mỗi người phải ở yên chỗ mình, chớ ai ra khỏi nhà. 30Thế thì, ngày thứ bảy dân sự đều nghỉ ngơi. 31Nhà Y-sơ-ra-ên đặt tên lương thực nầy là ma-na; nó giống như hột ngò, sắc trắng, mùi như bánh ngọt pha mật ong. 32Môi-se nói rằng: Lời Ðức Giê-hô-va đã phán dặn như vầy: Hãy đổ đầy một ô-me ma-na, đặng lưu truyền trải các đời, hầu cho thiên hạ thấy thứ bánh ta đã cho các ngươi ăn nơi đồng vắng, khi ta rút các ngươi ra khỏi xứ Ê-díp-tô. 33Môi-se lại nói cùng A-rôn rằng: Hãy lấy một cái bình đựng đầy một ô-me ma-na, để trước mặt Ðức Giê-hô-va, đặng lưu truyền các đời. 34A-rôn bèn để bình đó trước sự chứng cớ, hầu cho được lưu truyền y như lời Ðức Giê-hô-va đã phán dặn Môi-se. 35Dân Y-sơ-ra-ên ăn ma-na trải bốn mươi năm, cho đến khi vào bờ cõi xứ Ca-na-an, là xứ có người ta ở. 36Vả, ô-me là một phần mười của ê-pha.
1They took their journey from Elim, and all the congregation of the children of Israel came to the wilderness of Sin, which is between Elim and Sinai, on the fifteenth day of the second month after their departing out of the land of Egypt. 2The whole congregation of the children of Israel murmured against Moses and against Aaron in the wilderness; 3and the children of Israel said to them, “We wish that we had died by the hand of Yahweh in the land of Egypt, when we sat by the meat pots, when we ate our fill of bread, for you have brought us out into this wilderness, to kill this whole assembly with hunger.” 4Then Yahweh said to Moses, “Behold, I will rain bread from the sky for you, and the people shall go out and gather a day’s portion every day, that I may test them, whether they will walk in my law, or not. 5It shall come to pass on the sixth day, that they shall prepare that which they bring in, and it shall be twice as much as they gather daily.” 6Moses and Aaron said to all the children of Israel, “At evening, then you shall know that Yahweh has brought you out from the land of Egypt; 7and in the morning, then you shall see Yahweh’s glory; because he hears your murmurings against Yahweh. Who are we, that you murmur against us?” 8Moses said, “Now Yahweh shall give you meat to eat in the evening, and in the morning bread to satisfy you; because Yahweh hears your murmurings which you murmur against him. And who are we? Your murmurings are not against us, but against Yahweh.” 9Moses said to Aaron, “Tell all the congregation of the children of Israel, ‘Come near before Yahweh, for he has heard your murmurings.’” 10As Aaron spoke to the whole congregation of the children of Israel, they looked toward the wilderness, and behold, Yahweh’s glory appeared in the cloud. 11Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying, 12“I have heard the murmurings of the children of Israel. Speak to them, saying, ‘At evening you shall eat meat, and in the morning you shall be filled with bread: and you shall know that I am Yahweh your God.’” 13In the evening, quail came up and covered the camp; and in the morning the dew lay around the camp. 14When the dew that lay had gone, behold, on the surface of the wilderness was a small round thing, small as the frost on the ground. 15When the children of Israel saw it, they said one to another, “What is it?” For they didn’t know what it was. Moses said to them, “It is the bread which Yahweh has given you to eat.” 16This is the thing which Yahweh has commanded: “Gather of it everyone according to his eating; an omer a head, according to the number of your persons, you shall take it, every man for those who are in his tent.” 17The children of Israel did so, and gathered some more, some less. 18When they measured it with an omer, he who gathered much had nothing over, and he who gathered little had no lack. They gathered every man according to his eating. 19Moses said to them, “Let no one leave of it until the morning.” 20Notwithstanding they didn’t listen to Moses, but some of them left of it until the morning, and it bred worms, and became foul: and Moses was angry with them. 21They gathered it morning by morning, everyone according to his eating. When the sun grew hot, it melted. 22On the sixth day, they gathered twice as much bread, two omers for each one, and all the rulers of the congregation came and told Moses. 23He said to them, “This is that which Yahweh has spoken, ‘Tomorrow is a solemn rest, a holy Sabbath to Yahweh. Bake that which you want to bake, and boil that which you want to boil; and all that remains over lay up for yourselves to be kept until the morning.’” 24They laid it up until the morning, as Moses asked, and it didn’t become foul, neither was there any worm in it. 25Moses said, “Eat that today, for today is a Sabbath to Yahweh. Today you shall not find it in the field. 26Six days you shall gather it, but on the seventh day is the Sabbath. In it there shall be none.” 27On the seventh day, some of the people went out to gather, and they found none. 28Yahweh said to Moses, “How long do you refuse to keep my commandments and my laws? 29Behold, because Yahweh has given you the Sabbath, therefore he gives you on the sixth day the bread of two days. Everyone stay in his place. Let no one go out of his place on the seventh day.” 30So the people rested on the seventh day. 31The house of Israel called its name Manna, and it was like coriander seed, white; and its taste was like wafers with honey. 32Moses said, “This is the thing which Yahweh has commanded, ‘Let an omer-full of it be kept throughout your generations, that they may see the bread with which I fed you in the wilderness, when I brought you out of the land of Egypt.’” 33Moses said to Aaron, “Take a pot, and put an omer-full of manna in it, and lay it up before Yahweh, to be kept throughout your generations.” 34As Yahweh commanded Moses, so Aaron laid it up before the Testimony, to be kept. 35The children of Israel ate the manna forty years, until they came to an inhabited land. They ate the manna until they came to the borders of the land of Canaan. 36Now an omer is the tenth part of an ephah.

Want gijlieden hebt ons uitgeleid in deze woestijn, om deze ganse gemeente door den honger te doden. 4Toen zeide de HEERE tot Mozes: Zie, Ik zal voor ulieden brood uit den hemel regenen; en het volk zal uitgaan, en verzamelen elke dagmaat op haar dag; opdat Ik het verzoeke, of het in Mijn wet ga, of niet. 5En het zal geschieden op den zesden dag, dat zij bereiden zullen hetgeen zij ingebracht zullen hebben; dat zal dubbel zijn boven hetgeen zij dagelijks zullen verzamelen. 6Toen zeiden Mozes en Aaron tot al de kinderen Israels: Aan den avond, dan zult gij weten, dat u de HEERE uit Egypteland uitgeleid heeft; 7En morgen, dan zult gij des HEEREN heerlijkheid zien, dewijl Hij uw murmureringen tegen den HEERE gehoord heeft; want wat zijn wij, dat gij tegen ons murmureert? 8Voorts zeide Mozes: Als de HEERE ulieden aan den avond vlees te eten zal geven, en aan den morgen brood tot verzadiging, het zal zijn, omdat de HEERE uw murmureringen gehoord heeft, die gij tegen Hem murmureert; want wat zijn wij? Uw murmureringen zijn niet tegen ons, maar tegen den HEERE. 9Daarna zeide Mozes tot Aaron: Zeg tot de ganse vergadering der kinderen Israels: Nadert voor het aangezicht des HEEREN, want Hij heeft uw murmureringen gehoord. 10En het geschiedde, als Aaron tot de ganse vergadering der kinderen Israels sprak, en zij zich naar de woestijn keerden, zo ziet, de heerlijkheid des HEEREN verscheen in de wolk. 11Ook heeft de HEERE tot Mozes gesproken, zeggende: 12Ik heb de murmureringen der kinderen Israels gehoord; spreek tot hen, zeggende: Tussen twee avonden zult gij vlees eten, en aan den morgen zult gij met brood verzadigd worden; en gij zult weten, dat Ik de HEERE uw God ben. 13En het geschiedde aan den avond, dat er kwakkelen opkwamen, en het leger bedekten; en aan den morgen lag de dauw rondom het leger. 14Als nu de liggende dauw opgevaren was, zo ziet, over de woestijn was een klein rond ding, klein als de rijm, op de aarde. 15Toen het de kinderen Israels zagen, zo zeiden zij, de een tot den ander: Het is Man, want zij wisten niet wat het was. Mozes dan zeide tot hen: Dit is het brood, hetwelk de HEERE ulieden te eten gegeven heeft. 16Dit is het woord, dat de HEERE geboden heeft: Verzamelt daarvan een ieder naar dat hij eten mag, een gomer voor een hoofd, naar het getal van uw zielen; ieder zal nemen voor degenen, die in zijn tent zijn. 17En de kinderen Israels deden alzo, en verzamelden, de een veel en de ander weinig. 18Doch als zij het met de gomer maten, zo had hij, die veel verzameld had, niets over, en dien, die weinig verzameld had, ontbrak niet; een iegelijk verzamelde zoveel, als hij eten mocht. 19En Mozes zeide tot hen: Niemand late daarvan over tot den morgen. 20Doch zij hoorden niet naar Mozes, maar sommige mannen lieten daarvan over tot den morgen. Toen wiesen er wormen in, en het werd stinkende; dies werd Mozes zeer toornig op hen. 21Zij nu verzamelden het allen morgen, een iegelijk naar dat hij eten mocht; want als de zon heet werd, zo versmolt het. 22En het geschiedde op den zesden dag, dat zij dubbel brood verzamelden, twee gomers voor een; en al de oversten der vergadering kwamen en verkondigden het aan Mozes. 23Hij dan zeide tot hen: Dit is het, dat de HEERE gesproken heeft: Morgen is de rust, de heilige sabbat des HEEREN! wat gij bakken zoudt, bakt dat, en ziedt, wat gij zieden zoudt; en al wat over blijft, legt het op voor u in bewaring tot den morgen. 24En zij legden het op tot den morgen, gelijk als Mozes geboden had; en het stonk niet, en er was geen worm in. 25Toen zeide Mozes: Eet dat heden, want het is heden de sabbat des HEEREN; gij zult het heden op het veld niet vinden. 26Zes dagen zult gij het verzamelen; doch op den zevenden dag is het sabbat, op denzelven zal het niet zijn. 27En het geschiedde aan den zevenden dag, dat sommigen van het volk uitgingen, om te verzamelen; doch zij vonden niet. 28Toen zeide de HEERE tot Mozes: Hoe lang weigert gijlieden te houden Mijn geboden en Mijn wetten? 29Ziet, omdat de HEERE ulieden den sabbat gegeven heeft, daarom geeft Hij u aan den zesden dag voor twee dagen brood; een ieder blijve in zijn plaats! dat niemand uit zijn plaats ga op den zevenden dag! 30Alzo rustte het volk op den zevenden dag! 31En het huis Israels noemde deszelfs naam Man; en het was als korianderzaad, wit, en de smaak daarvan was als honigkoeken. 32Voorts zeide Mozes: Dit is het woord, hetwelk de HEERE bevolen heeft: Vul een gomer daarvan tot bewaring voor uw geslachten, opdat zij zien het brood, dat Ik ulieden heb te eten gegeven in deze woestijn, toen Ik u uit Egypteland uitleidde. 33Ook zeide Mozes tot Aaron: Neem een kruik, en doe een gomer vol Man daarin; en zet die voor het aangezicht des HEEREN, tot bewaring voor uw geslachten. 34Gelijk als de HEERE aan Mozes geboden had, alzo zette ze Aaron voor de getuigenis tot bewaring. 35En de kinderen Israels aten Man veertig jaren, totdat zij in een bewoond land kwamen; zij aten Man, totdat zij kwamen aan de pale van het land Kanaan. 36Een gomer nu is het tiende deel van een efa.
