1Ðây là luật lệ ngươi phải truyền cho dân sự: 2Nếu ngươi mua một người đầy tớ Hê-bơ-rơ, nó sẽ hầu việc cho sáu năm; nhưng qua năm thứ bảy nó sẽ được thả ra, không phải thối tiền. 3Nếu nó vào ở một mình, thì sẽ ra một mình; nếu có vợ, thì sẽ ra với vợ. 4Nếu người chủ cưới vợ cho, và nếu vợ sanh được con trai hay gái, thì nó sẽ ra một mình, vợ và con thuộc về chủ. 5Nếu kẻ tôi mọi nói rằng: Tôi thương chủ, vợ và con tôi, không muốn ra được tự do, 6thì người chủ sẽ dẫn nó đến trước mặt Ðức Chúa Trời, biểu lại gần cửa hay là cột, rồi lấy mũi dùi xỏ tai; nó sẽ hầu việc người chủ đó trọn đời. 7Nếu ai bán con gái mình làm con đòi, con gái đó không được ra như các đầy tớ kia. 8Nếu chủ trước đã ưng lấy con đòi làm hầu, rồi sau lại chẳng muốn, thì chủ phải biểu chuộc nàng lại, chớ không có phép gạt, rồi đem bán nàng cho kẻ ngoại bang. 9Nhưng nếu chủ định để cho con trai mình, thì phải xử với nàng theo phép như con gái mình vậy. 10Nếu chủ có lấy người khác, thì đối với người thứ nhất chẳng được phép giảm đồ ăn, đồ mặc, và tình nghĩa vợ chồng chút nào. 11Nếu người chủ không làm theo ba điều nầy, nàng được phép ra không, chẳng phải thối tiền lại. 12Kẻ nào đánh chết một người, sẽ bị xử tử. 13Nhược bằng kẻ đó chẳng phải mưu giết, nhưng vì Ðức Chúa Trời đã phú người bị giết vào tay kẻ đó, thì ta sẽ lập cho ngươi một chỗ đặng kẻ giết người ẩn thân. 14Còn nhược bằng kẻ nào dấy lên cùng người lân cận mà lập mưu giết người, thì dẫu rằng nó núp nơi bàn thờ ta, ngươi cũng bắt mà giết đi. 15Kẻ nào đánh cha hay mẹ mình, sẽ bị xử tử. 16Kẻ nào bắt người và bán, hoặc giữ lại trong tay mình, sẽ bị xử tử. 17Kẻ nào mắng cha hay mẹ mình, sẽ bị xử tử. 18Khi hai người đánh lộn nhau, người nầy đánh người kia bằng đá hay là đấm cú, không đến đỗi phải chết, nhưng phải nằm liệt giường, 19nếu đứng dậy chống gậy đi ra ngoài được, người đánh đó sẽ được tha tội. Nhưng chỉ phải đền tiền thiệt hại trong mấy ngày nghỉ và nuôi cho đến khi lành mạnh. 20Khi người chủ lấy gậy đánh đầy tớ trai hay gái mình và chết liền theo tay, thì chắc phải bị phạt. 21Song nếu đầy tớ trai hay gái còn sống một hai ngày, người chủ khỏi tội, vì nó vốn là tài sản của chủ. 22Nếu người ta đánh nhau, đụng nhằm một người đàn bà có thai, làm cho phải sảo, nhưng chẳng bị sự hại chi khác, thì kẻ đánh nhằm đó phải bồi thường theo lời chồng người sẽ định, và trả tiền trước mặt quan án. 23Còn nếu có sự hại chi, thì ngươi sẽ lấy mạng thường mạng, 24lấy mắt thường mắt, lấy răng thường răng, lấy tay thường tay, lấy chân thường chân, 25lấy phỏng thường phỏng, lấy bầm thường bầm, lấy thương thường thương. 26Nếu ai đánh nhằm con mắt đầy tớ trai hay gái mình, làm cho mất đi, thì hãy tha nó ra tự do, vì cớ mất con mắt. 27Nếu ai làm rụng một răng của đầy tớ trai hay gái mình, thì hãy tha nó ra tự do, vì cớ mất một răng. 28Ví có một con bò báng nhằm một người đàn ông hay đàn bà phải chết đi, con bò sẽ bị ném đá chết, người ta không nên ăn thịt nó; còn người chủ bò sẽ được vô tội. 29Nhưng ngộ từ trước con bò có tật hay báng và chủ đã bị mắng vốn mà không cầm giữ, nếu bò nầy còn giết một người đàn ông hay đàn bà, thì nó sẽ bị ném đá, và chủ sẽ bị xử tử nữa. 30Nhược bằng người ta định giá cho chủ bò chuộc mạng, chủ phải chuộc mạng mình y như giá đã định. 31Nếu bò báng nhằm một đứa con trai hay là con gái, người ta cũng sẽ chiếu theo luật nầy. 32Con bò báng nhằm một đứa đầy tớ trai hay gái, chủ bò phải trả ba chục siếc lơ bạc cho chủ nó; rồi bò sẽ bị ném đá chết. 33Nếu ai mở miệng hầm hay là đào hầm mà chẳng đậy lại, và nếu có bò hay là lừa té xuống đó, 34chủ hầm sẽ bồi thường giá tiền cho chủ của súc vật, nhưng súc vật bị giết đó sẽ về phần mình. 35Bằng bò của ai báng nhằm bò của kẻ lân cận mình phải chết đi, hai người hãy bán bò sống đó, chia tiền và chia luôn con bò chết nữa. 36Nếu người chủ đã tỏ tường trước rằng bò mình có tật hay báng, mà không lo cầm giữ, chủ phải lấy bò thường bò, nhưng bò chết sẽ về phần người.
1“Now these are the ordinances which you shall set before them. 2“If you buy a Hebrew servant, he shall serve six years and in the seventh he shall go out free without paying anything. 3If he comes in by himself, he shall go out by himself. If he is married, then his wife shall go out with him. 4If his master gives him a wife and she bears him sons or daughters, the wife and her children shall be her master’s, and he shall go out by himself. 5But if the servant shall plainly say, ‘I love my master, my wife, and my children. I will not go out free;’ 6then his master shall bring him to God, and shall bring him to the door or to the doorpost, and his master shall bore his ear through with an awl, and he shall serve him for ever. 7“If a man sells his daughter to be a female servant, she shall not go out as the male servants do. 8If she doesn’t please her master, who has married her to himself, then he shall let her be redeemed. He shall have no right to sell her to a foreign people, since he has dealt deceitfully with her. 9If he marries her to his son, he shall deal with her as a daughter. 10If he takes another wife to himself, he shall not diminish her food, her clothing, and her marital rights. 11If he doesn’t do these three things for her, she may go free without paying any money. 12“One who strikes a man so that he dies shall surely be put to death, 13but not if it is unintentional, but God allows it to happen: then I will appoint you a place where he shall flee. 14If a man schemes and comes presumptuously on his neighbor to kill him, you shall take him from my altar, that he may die. 15“Anyone who attacks his father or his mother shall be surely put to death. 16“Anyone who kidnaps someone and sells him, or if he is found in his hand, he shall surely be put to death. 17“Anyone who curses his father or his mother shall surely be put to death. 18“If men quarrel and one strikes the other with a stone, or with his fist, and he doesn’t die, but is confined to bed; 19if he rises again and walks around with his staff, then he who struck him shall be cleared: only he shall pay for the loss of his time, and shall provide for his healing until he is thoroughly healed. 20“If a man strikes his servant or his maid with a rod, and he dies under his hand, he shall surely be punished. 21Notwithstanding, if he gets up after a day or two, he shall not be punished, for he is his property. 22“If men fight and hurt a pregnant woman so that she gives birth prematurely, and yet no harm follows, he shall be surely fined as much as the woman’s husband demands and the judges allow. 23But if any harm follows, then you must take life for life, 24eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot, 25burning for burning, wound for wound, and bruise for bruise. 26“If a man strikes his servant’s eye, or his maid’s eye, and destroys it, he shall let him go free for his eye’s sake. 27If he strikes out his male servant’s tooth, or his female servant’s tooth, he shall let him go free for his tooth’s sake. 28“If a bull gores a man or a woman to death, the bull shall surely be stoned, and its flesh shall not be eaten; but the owner of the bull shall not be held responsible. 29But if the bull had a habit of goring in the past, and it has been testified to its owner, and he has not kept it in, but it has killed a man or a woman, the bull shall be stoned, and its owner shall also be put to death. 30If a ransom is laid on him, then he shall give for the redemption of his life whatever is laid on him. 31Whether it has gored a son or has gored a daughter, according to this judgment it shall be done to him. 32If the bull gores a male servant or a female servant, thirty shekels of silver shall be given to their master, and the ox shall be stoned. 33“If a man opens a pit, or if a man digs a pit and doesn’t cover it, and a bull or a donkey falls into it, 34the owner of the pit shall make it good. He shall give money to its owner, and the dead animal shall be his. 35“If one man’s bull injures another’s, so that it dies, then they shall sell the live bull, and divide its price; and they shall also divide the dead animal. 36Or if it is known that the bull was in the habit of goring in the past, and its owner has not kept it in, he shall surely pay bull for bull, and the dead animal shall be his own.
1Dit nu zijn de rechten, die gij hun zult voorstellen. 2Als gij een Hebreeuwsen knecht kopen zult, die zal zes jaren dienen; maar in het zevende zal hij voor vrij uitgaan, om niet. 3Indien hij met zijn lijf ingekomen zal zijn, zo zal hij met zijn lijf uitgaan; indien hij een getrouwd man was, zo zal zijn vrouw met hem uitgaan. 4Indien hem zijn heer een vrouw gegeven, en zij hem zonen of dochteren gebaard zal hebben, zo zal de vrouw en haar kinderen haars heren zijn, en hij zal met zijn lijf uitgaan. 5Maar indien de knecht ronduit zeggen zal: Ik heb mijn heer, mijn vrouw en mijn kinderen lief, ik wil niet vrij uitgaan; 6Zo zal hem zijn heer tot de goden brengen, daarna zal hij hem aan de deur, of aan den post brengen; en zijn heer zal hem met een priem zijn oor doorboren, en hij zal hem eeuwiglijk dienen. 7Wanneer nu iemand zijn dochter zal verkocht hebben tot een dienstmaagd, zo zal zij niet uitgaan, gelijk de knechten uitgaan. 8Indien zij kwalijk bevalt in de ogen haars heren, dat hij haar niet ondertrouwd heeft, zo zal hij haar doen lossen; aan een vreemd volk haar te verkopen zal hij niet vermogen, dewijl hij trouweloos met haar gehandeld heeft. 9Maar indien hij haar aan zijn zoon ondertrouwt, zo zal hij met haar doen naar het recht der dochteren. 10Indien hij voor zich een andere neemt, zo zal hij aan deze haar spijs, haar deksel, en haar huwelijksplicht niet onttrekken. 11En indien hij haar deze drie dingen niet doet, zo zal zij om niet uitgaan, zonder geld. 12Wie iemand slaat, dat hij sterft, die zal zekerlijk gedood worden. 13Doch die hem niet nagesteld heeft, maar God heeft hem zijn hand doen ontmoeten, zo zal Ik u een plaats bestellen, waar hij henen vliede. 14Maar indien iemand tegen zijn naaste moedwillig gehandeld heeft, om hem met list te doden, zo zult gij denzelven van voor Mijn altaar nemen, dat hij sterve. 15Zo wie zijn vader of zijn moeder slaat, die zal zekerlijk gedood worden. 16Verder, zo wie een mens steelt, hetzij dat hij dien verkocht heeft, of dat hij in zijn hand gevonden wordt, die zal zekerlijk gedood worden. 17Wie ook zijn vader of zijn moeder vloekt, die zal zekerlijk gedood worden. 18En wanneer mannen twisten, en de een slaat den ander met een steen, of met een vuist, en hij sterft niet, maar valt te bedde; 19Indien hij weder opstaat, en op straat gaat bij zijn stok, zo zal hij, die hem sloeg, onschuldig zijn; alleen zal hij geven hetgeen hij verzuimd heeft, en hij zal hem volkomen laten helen. 20Wanneer ook iemand zijn dienstknecht of zijn dienstmaagd met een stok slaat, dat hij onder zijn hand sterft, die zal zekerlijk gewroken worden. 21Zo hij nochtans een dag of twee dagen overeind blijft, zo zal hij niet gewroken worden; want hij is zijn geld. 22Wanneer nu mannen kijven, en slaan een zwangere vrouw, dat haar de vrucht afgaat, doch geen dodelijk verderf zij, zo zal hij zekerlijk gestraft worden, gelijk als hem de man der vrouw oplegt, en hij zal het geven door de rechters. 23Maar indien er een dodelijk verderf zal zijn, zo zult gij geven ziel voor ziel. 24Oog voor oog, tand voor tand, hand voor hand, voet voor voet. 25Brand voor brand, wond voor wond, buil voor buil. 26Wanneer ook iemand het oog van zijn dienstknecht, of het oog van zijn dienstmaagd slaat, en verderft het, hij zal hem vrij laten gaan voor zijn oog. 27En indien hij een tand van zijn dienstknecht, of een tand van zijn dienstmaagd uitslaat, zo zal hij hem vrijlaten voor zijn tand. 28En wanneer een os een man of een vrouw stoot, dat hij sterft, zal de os zekerlijk gestenigd worden, en zijn vlees zal niet gegeten worden; maar de heer van den os zal onschuldig zijn. 29Maar indien de os te voren stotig geweest is, en zijn heer is daarvan overtuigd geweest, en hij hem niet bewaard heeft, en hij doodt een man of een vrouw, zo zal die os gestenigd worden, en zijn heer zal ook gedood worden. 30Indien hem losgeld opgelegd wordt, zo zal hij tot lossing zijner ziel geven naar alles, wat hem zal opgelegd worden; 31Hetzij dat hij een zoon gestoten heeft, of een dochter gestoten heeft, naar dat recht zal hem gedaan worden. 32Indien de os een knecht of een dienstmaagd stoot, hij zal zijn heer dertig zilverlingen geven, en de os zal gestenigd worden. 33En wanneer iemand een kuil opent, of wanneer iemand een kuil graaft, en hij dekt hem niet toe, en een os of ezel valt daarin; 34De heer des kuils zal het vergelden; hij zal aan deszelfs heer het geld wederkeren; doch dat dode zal zijns wezen. 35Wanneer nu iemands os den os van zijn naaste kwetst, dat hij sterft, zo zal men den levenden os verkopen, en het geld daarvan half en half delen, en den dode zal men ook half en half delen. 36Of is het kennelijk geweest, dat die os van te voren stotig was, en zijn heer heeft hem niet bewaard, zo zal hij in alle manier os voor os vergelden; doch de dode zal zijns wezen.
