1Môi-se thưa rằng: Nhưng dân đó sẽ chẳng tin và chẳng vâng lời tôi, vì sẽ nói rằng: Ðức Giê-hô-va chẳng có hiện ra cùng ngươi đâu. 2Ðức Giê-hô-va phán rằng: Trong tay ngươi cầm vật chi? Thưa rằng: Một cây gậy. 3Phán rằng: Hãy ném xuống đất đi. Người bèn ném xuống đất, gậy hóa ra một con rắn; Môi-se chạy trốn nó. 4Ðức Giê-hô-va bèn phán cùng Môi-se rằng: Hãy giơ tay ngươi ra nắm đuôi nó. Người giơ tay ra nắm, thì nó hườn lại cây gậy trong tay. 5Ðức Giê-hô-va phán rằng: Ấy để cho chúng nó tin rằng Giê-hô-va, Ðức Chúa Trời của tổ phụ mình, là Ðức Chúa Trời của Áp-ra-ham, Ðức Chúa Trời của Y-sác, Ðức Chúa Trời của Gia-cốp, đã hiện ra cùng ngươi. 6Ðức Giê-hô-va lại phán rằng: Hãy đặt tay ngươi vào lòng. Người liền đặt vào, rồi lấy ra. Nầy, tay người nổi phung trắng như tuyết. 7Ðoạn, Ngài phán rằng: Hãy đặt tay ngươi vào lòng lại; người bèn đặt vào, rồi lấy ra. Kìa, tay trở lại như thịt mình. 8Lại phán: Nếu khi nào dân đó chẳng tin ngươi và chẳng vâng theo tiếng của dấu thứ nhất, thì sẽ tin theo tiếng của dấu thứ nhì. 9Vả lại, nếu dân chẳng tin cả hai dấu nầy, và không vâng theo lời ngươi, thì hãy lấy nước dưới sông mà làm tràn ngập trên mặt đất; nước mà ngươi đã lấy dưới sông lên đó, sẽ thành máu trên mặt đất vậy. 10Môi-se thưa cùng Ðức Giê-hô-va rằng: Ôi! lạy Chúa, từ hôm qua, hôm kia, hay là từ lúc Chúa phán dạy kẻ tôi tớ Chúa, tôi vẫn chẳng phải một tay nói giỏi, vì miệng và lưỡi tôi hay ngập ngừng. 11Ðức Giê-hô-va bèn phán rằng: Ai tạo miệng loài người ra? hay là ai đã làm câm, làm điếc, làm sáng, làm mờ? Có phải ta là Ðức Giê-hô-va chăng? 12Vậy bây giờ, hãy đi; ta sẽ ở cùng miệng ngươi và dạy ngươi những lời phải nói. 13Môi-se thưa rằng: Ôi! lạy Chúa, Chúa muốn sai ai đi, thì sai. 14Ðức Giê-hô-va bèn nổi giận cùng Môi-se mà phán rằng: Có phải A-rôn, người Lê-vi, là anh ngươi chăng? Ta biết người đó có tài nói giỏi, và kìa, người đang đi đến đón ngươi kìa; khi thấy ngươi, chắc sẽ vui mừng trong lòng. 15Vậy ngươi hãy nói cùng người, và sắp để những lời trong miệng người. Khi hai ngươi nói, ta sẽ ở cùng miệng ngươi và miệng anh ngươi, dạy các ngươi những điều gì phải làm. 16Ấy là người đó sẽ nói cùng dân sự thế cho ngươi, dùng làm miệng ngươi, còn ngươi sẽ dường như Ðức Chúa Trời cho người vậy. 17Ngươi hãy cầm lấy gậy nầy nơi tay, để dùng làm các dấu lạ. 18Môi-se bèn đi, trở về Giê-trô, ông gia mình, mà thưa rằng: Xin cha hãy cho tôi trở về nơi anh em tôi tại xứ Ê-díp-tô, đặng thăm thử họ còn sống chăng. Giê-trô bèn nói cùng Môi-se rằng: Con hãy đi bình yên. 19Vả, Ðức Giê-hô-va có phán cùng Môi-se tại Ma-đi-an rằng: Hãy trở về xứ Ê-díp-tô, vì mấy người tìm giết ngươi đã chết hết rồi. 20Môi-se bèn đỡ vợ và con mình lên lưng lừa, trở về xứ Ê-díp-tô. Người cũng cầm cây gậy của Ðức Chúa Trời theo trong tay. 21Ðức Giê-hô-va phán cùng Môi-se rằng: Khi trở về xứ Ê-díp-tô, hãy cẩn thận về các dấu lạ của ta đã giao nơi tay ngươi mà làm trước mặt Pha-ra-ôn; nhưng ta sẽ khiến người cứng lòng chẳng cho dân sự đi. 22Vậy, ngươi phải tâu cùng Pha-ra-ôn rằng: Ðức Giê-hô-va có phán như vầy: Y-sơ-ra-ên là con ta, tức trưởng nam ta, 23nên ta có phán cùng ngươi rằng: Hãy cho con ta đi, để nó phụng sự ta, mà ngươi đã từ chối không cho nó đi. Nầy, ta sẽ giết con trai ngươi, là con trưởng nam của ngươi. 24Vả, đang khi đi đường, Ðức Giê-hô-va hiện ra trước mặt Môi-se nơi nhà quán, và kiếm thế giết người đi. 25Sê-phô-ra lấy con dao bằng đá, cắt dương bì của con mình, và quăng dưới chân Môi-se, mà nói rằng: Thật, chàng là huyết lang cho tôi! 26Ðức Giê-hô-va tha chồng; nàng bèn nói rằng: Huyết lang! là vì cớ phép cắt bì. 27Ðức Giê-hô-va phán cùng A-rôn rằng: Hãy đi đến đồng vắng, đón rước Môi-se. A-rôn bèn đi, gặp Môi-se tại núi của Ðức Chúa Trời, và hôn người. 28Môi-se thuật lại cho A-rôn mọi lời của Ðức Giê-hô-va sai mình truyền, và các dấu lạ mà Ngài đã dạy mình làm. 29Vậy, Môi-se đi cùng A-rôn, nhóm lại các trưởng lão dân Y-sơ-ra-ên. 30A-rôn bèn thuật hết các lời của Ðức Giê-hô-va đã phán cùng Môi-se, và làm những dấu lạ trước mặt dân sự. 31Chúng bèn tin, hiểu rằng Ðức Giê-hô-va đã thăm viếng dân Y-sơ-ra-ên, và thấy điều cực khổ của mình; chúng bèn cúi đầu và thờ lạy.
1Moses answered, “But, behold, they will not believe me, nor listen to my voice; for they will say, ‘Yahweh has not appeared to you.’” 2Yahweh said to him, “What is that in your hand?” He said, “A rod.” 3He said, “Throw it on the ground.” He threw it on the ground, and it became a snake; and Moses ran away from it. 4Yahweh said to Moses, “Stretch out your hand, and take it by the tail.” He stretched out his hand, and took hold of it, and it became a rod in his hand. 5“That they may believe that Yahweh, the God of their fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has appeared to you.” 6Yahweh said furthermore to him, “Now put your hand inside your cloak.” He put his hand inside his cloak, and when he took it out, behold, his hand was leprous, as white as snow. 7He said, “Put your hand inside your cloak again.” He put his hand inside his cloak again, and when he took it out of his cloak, behold, it had turned again as his other flesh. 8“It will happen, if they will neither believe you nor listen to the voice of the first sign, that they will believe the voice of the latter sign. 9It will happen, if they will not believe even these two signs, neither listen to your voice, that you shall take of the water of the river, and pour it on the dry land. The water which you take out of the river will become blood on the dry land.” 10Moses said to Yahweh, “O Lord, I am not eloquent, neither before now, nor since you have spoken to your servant; for I am slow of speech, and of a slow tongue.” 11Yahweh said to him, “Who made man’s mouth? Or who makes one mute, or deaf, or seeing, or blind? Isn’t it I, Yahweh? 12Now therefore go, and I will be with your mouth, and teach you what you shall speak.” 13He said, “Oh, Lord, please send someone else.” 14Yahweh’s anger was kindled against Moses, and he said, “What about Aaron, your brother, the Levite? I know that he can speak well. Also, behold, he comes out to meet you. When he sees you, he will be glad in his heart. 15You shall speak to him, and put the words in his mouth. I will be with your mouth, and with his mouth, and will teach you what you shall do. 16He will be your spokesman to the people; and it will happen, that he will be to you a mouth, and you will be to him as God. 17You shall take this rod in your hand, with which you shall do the signs.” 18Moses went and returned to Jethro his father-in-law, and said to him, “Please let me go and return to my brothers who are in Egypt, and see whether they are still alive.” Jethro said to Moses, “Go in peace.” 19Yahweh said to Moses in Midian, “Go, return into Egypt; for all the men who sought your life are dead.” 20Moses took his wife and his sons, and set them on a donkey, and he returned to the land of Egypt. Moses took God’s rod in his hand. 21Yahweh said to Moses, “When you go back into Egypt, see that you do before Pharaoh all the wonders which I have put in your hand, but I will harden his heart and he will not let the people go. 22You shall tell Pharaoh, ‘Thus says Yahweh, Israel is my son, my firstborn, 23and I have said to you, “Let my son go, that he may serve me”; and you have refused to let him go. Behold, I will kill your son, your firstborn.’” 24On the way at a lodging place, Yahweh met Moses and wanted to kill him. 25Then Zipporah took a flint, and cut off the foreskin of her son, and cast it at his feet; and she said, “Surely you are a bridegroom of blood to me.” 26So he let him alone. Then she said, “You are a bridegroom of blood,” because of the circumcision. 27Yahweh said to Aaron, “Go into the wilderness to meet Moses.” He went, and met him on God’s mountain, and kissed him. 28Moses told Aaron all Yahweh’s words with which he had sent him, and all the signs with which he had instructed him. 29Moses and Aaron went and gathered together all the elders of the children of Israel. 30Aaron spoke all the words which Yahweh had spoken to Moses, and did the signs in the sight of the people. 31The people believed, and when they heard that Yahweh had visited the children of Israel, and that he had seen their affliction, then they bowed their heads and worshiped.

Toen strekte hij zijn hand uit, en vatte haar, en zij werd tot een staf in zijn hand. 5Opdat zij geloven, dat u verschenen is de HEERE, de God hunner vaderen, de God van Abraham, de God van Izak, en de God van Jakob. 6En de HEERE zeide verder tot hem: Steek nu uw hand in uw boezem. En hij stak zijn hand in zijn boezem; daarna trok hij ze uit, en ziet, zijn hand was melaats, wit als sneeuw. 7En Hij zeide: Steek uw hand wederom in uw boezem. En hij stak zijn hand wederom in zijn boezem; daarna trok hij ze uit zijn boezem, en ziet, zij was weder als zijn ander vlees. 8En het zal geschieden, zo zij u niet geloven, noch naar de stem van het eerste teken horen, zo zullen zij de stem van het laatste teken geloven. 9En het zal geschieden, zo zij ook deze twee tekenen niet geloven, noch naar uw stem horen, zo neem van de wateren der rivier, en giet ze op het droge; zo zullen de wateren, die gij uit de rivier zult nemen, diezelve zullen tot bloed worden op het droge. 10Toen zeide Mozes tot de HEERE: Och Heere! ik ben geen man wel ter tale, noch van gisteren, noch van eergisteren, noch van toen af, toen Gij tot Uw knecht gesproken hebt; want ik ben zwaar van mond, en zwaar van tong. 11En de HEERE zeide tot hem: Wie heeft den mens den mond gemaakt, of wie heeft den stomme, of dove, of ziende, of blinde gemaakt? Ben Ik het niet, de HEERE? 12En nu ga henen, en Ik zal met uw mond zijn, en zal u leren, wat gij spreken zult. 13Doch hij zeide: Och, Heere! zend toch door de hand desgenen, dien Gij zoudt zenden. 14Toen ontstak de toorn des HEEREN over Mozes, en Hij zeide: is niet Aaron, de Leviet, uw broeder? Ik weet, dat hij zeer wel spreken zal, en ook, zie, hij zal uitgaan u tegemoet; wanneer hij u ziet, zo zal hij in zijn hart verblijd zijn. 15Gij dan zult tot hem spreken, en de woorden in zijn mond leggen; en Ik zal met uw mond, en met zijn mond zijn; en Ik zal ulieden leren, wat gij doen zult. 16En hij zal voor u tot het volk spreken; en het zal geschieden, dat hij u tot een mond zal zijn, en gij zult hem tot een god zijn. 17Neem dan dezen staf in uw hand, waarmede gij die tekenen doen zult. 18Toen ging Mozes heen, en keerde weder tot Jethro, zijn schoonvader, en zeide tot hem: Laat mij toch gaan, dat ik wederkere tot mijn broederen, die in Egypte zijn, en zie, of zij nog leven. Jethro dan zeide tot Mozes: Ga in vrede! 19Ook zeide de HEERE tot Mozes in Midian: Ga heen, keer weder in Egypte, want al de mannen zijn dood, die uw ziel zochten. 20Mozes dan nam zijn vrouw, en zijn zonen, en voerde hen op een ezel, en keerde weder in Egypteland; en Mozes nam den staf Gods in zijn hand. 21En de HEERE zeide tot Mozes: Terwijl gij heentrekt, om weder in Egypte te keren, zie toe, dat gij al de wonderen doet voor Farao, die Ik in uw hand gesteld heb; doch Ik zal zijn hart verstokken, dat hij het volk niet zal laten gaan. 22Dan zult gij tot Farao zeggen: Alzo zegt de HEERE: Mijn zoon, Mijn eerstgeborene, is Israel. 23En Ik heb tot u gezegd: Laat Mijn zoon trekken, dat hij Mij diene! maar gij hebt geweigerd hem te laten trekken; zie, Ik zal uw zoon, uw eerstgeborene doden! 24En het geschiedde op den weg, in de herberg, dat de HEERE hem tegenkwam, en zocht hem te doden. 25Toen nam Zippora een stenen mes en besneed de voorhuid haars zoons, en wierp die voor zijn voeten, en zeide: Voorwaar, gij zijt mij een bloedbruidegom! 26En Hij liet van hem af. Toen zeide zij: Bloedbruidegom! vanwege de besnijdenis. 27De HEERE zeide ook tot Aaron: Ga Mozes tegemoet in de woestijn. En hij ging, en ontmoette hem aan den berg Gods, en hij kuste hem. 28En Mozes gaf Aaron te kennen al de woorden des HEEREN, Die hem gezonden had, en al de tekenen, die Hij hem bevolen had. 29Toen ging Mozes en Aaron, en zij verzamelden al de oudsten der kinderen Israels. 30En Aaron sprak al de woorden, die de HEERE tot Mozes gesproken had; en hij deed de tekenen voor de ogen des volks. 31En het volk geloofde, en zij hoorden, dat de HEERE de kinderen Israels bezocht, en dat Hij hun verdrukking zag, en zij neigden hun hoofden, en aanbaden.
