1Palavra do SENHOR que veio ao profeta Jeremias, contra as nações. 2Quanto ao Egito: contra o exército de Faraó Neco, rei do Egito, que estava junto ao rio Eufrates em Carquemis, ao qual Nabucodonosor rei da Babilônia feriu no quarto ano de Jeoaquim filho de Josias, rei de Judá. 3Preparai os escudos maior e o menor, e vinde à guerra. 4Selai os cavalos, e subi, vós os cavaleiros, e apresentai-vos com capacetes; limpai as lanças, vesti-vos de couraças. 5Por que razão vejo os medrosos tornando atrás? E seus guerreiros são abatidos, e vão fugindo, sem olharem para trás; o terror está por todos os lados,diz o SENHOR. 6Não fuja o ligeiro, nem escape o guerreiro; para o norte, junto à margem do rio do Eufrates, tropeçaram e caíram. 7Quem é este que sobe como o Nilo, cujas águas se movem como rios? 8O Egito vem subindo como o Nilo, e suas águas se agitam como rios, e disse: Subirei, e cobrirei a terra; destruirei a cidade, e os que nela habitam. 9Subi, cavalos, e rangei, carruagens; e saiam os guerreiros; os de Cuxe e os de Pute que tomam escudo, e os de Lude que tomam e encurvam o arco. 10Porém esse dia pertence ao Senhor DEUS dos exércitos, o dia de vingança, para ele se vingar de seus adversários; e a espada devorará, se fartará, e se embriagará do sangue deles; pois o Senhor DEUS dos exércitos tem para si um sacrifício na terra do norte, junto ao rio Eufrates. 11Sobe a Gileade, e toma bálsamo, ó virgem filha do Egito; em vão multiplicas os remédios, pois não há cura para ti. 12As nações ouviram da tua vergonha, e teu clamor encheu a terra: pois um guerreiro tropeçou contra outro guerreiro, e ambos juntamente caíram. 13Palavra que o SENHOR falou ao profeta Jeremias quanto à vinda de Nabucodonosor, rei da Babilônia, para ferir a terra do Egito: 14Anunciai no Egito, e declarai em Migdol; declarai também em Nofe e em Tafnes; dizei: Firma uma posição, e prepara-te; pois a espada está para devorar o que há ao redor de ti. 15Por que teus guerreiros foram derrubados? Não puderam ficar de pé, pois o SENHOR os empurrou. 16Ele multiplicou os que tropeçaram; caíram cada um sobre o outro, e disseram: Levanta-te e voltemo-nos a nosso povo, e à terra de nosso nascimento, por causa da espada opressora. 17Ali gritarão: O Faraó rei do Egito, é apenas um barulho; ele deixou passar o tempo determinado. 18Vivo eu, diz o Rei, cujo nome é EU-SOU dos exércitos, que como o Tabor entre os montes, e como o Carmelo no mar, assim ele virá. 19Faz para ti a bagagem para a ida ao cativeiro, ó moradora, filha do Egito; porque Nofe se tornará em desolação, e será devastada até não haver ali morador. 20O Egito é uma bezerra formosa; mas a mosca carniceira vem do norte. 21Até seus soldados mercenários em meio dela são como bezerros cevados; porém também eles se virarão para trás, e juntamente fugirão; eles não permanecerão em postos, porque o dia de sua ruína, o tempo de sua punição, veio sobre eles. 22Seu ruído sairá como de serpente; pois seus inimigos virão com poder; a ela virão com machados, como se fossem cortadores de lenha. 23Cortarão o seu bosque,diz o SENHOR, ainda que não possam ser contados; porque são mais que gafanhotos, não se pode enumerá- los. 24A filha do Egito será envergonhada; entregue será nas mãos do povo do norte. 25Diz o SENHOR dos exércitos, Deus de Israel: Eis que eu punirei a Amom de Nô, a Faraó e ao Egito; a seus deuses e a seus reis; tanto a Faraó como aos que nele confiam. 26E os entregarei nas mãos dos que buscam tirar sua vida, e nas mãos de Nabucodonosor rei de Babilônia, e nas mãos de seus servos; porém depois será habitada como nos dias anteriores,diz o SENHOR. 27Mas tu não temas, meu servo Jacó, nem te espantes, ó Israel; porque eis que te salvarei desde as terras de longe, e teus descendentes da terra de seu cativeiro. E Jacó voltará, descansará, e viverá em paz; e não haverá quem o atemorize. 28Tu, meu servo Jacó, não temas,diz o SENHOR; pois eu estou contigo; porque destruirei por completo todas as nações entre as quais eu te lancei; porem a ti não destruirei por completo, mas te castigarei com moderação, e não te deixarei impune.
1Yahweh’s word which came to Jeremiah the prophet concerning the nations. 2Of Egypt: concerning the army of Pharaoh Necoh king of Egypt, which was by the river Euphrates in Carchemish, which Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon struck in the fourth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah. 3Prepare the buckler and shield, and draw near to battle! 4Harness the horses, and get up, you horsemen, and stand up with your helmets; furbish the spears, put on the coats of mail. 5Why have I seen it? they are dismayed and are turned backward; and their mighty ones are beaten down, and have fled apace, and don’t look back: terror is on every side, says Yahweh. 6Don’t let the swift flee away, nor the mighty man escape; in the north by the river Euphrates have they stumbled and fallen. 7Who is this who rises up like the Nile, whose waters toss themselves like the rivers? 8Egypt rises up like the Nile, and his waters toss themselves like the rivers: and he says, I will rise up, I will cover the earth; I will destroy cities and its inhabitants. 9Go up, you horses; and rage, you chariots; and let the mighty men go out: Cush and Put, who handle the shield; and the Ludim, who handle and bend the bow. 10For that day is of the Lord, Yahweh of Armies, a day of vengeance, that he may avenge him of his adversaries: and the sword shall devour and be satiate, and shall drink its fill of their blood; for the Lord, Yahweh of Armies, has a sacrifice in the north country by the river Euphrates. 11Go up into Gilead, and take balm, virgin daughter of Egypt: in vain do you use many medicines; there is no healing for you. 12The nations have heard of your shame, and the earth is full of your cry; for the mighty man has stumbled against the mighty, they are fallen both of them together. 13The word that Yahweh spoke to Jeremiah the prophet, how that Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon should come and strike the land of Egypt. 14Declare in Egypt, and publish in Migdol, and publish in Memphis and in Tahpanhes: say, Stand up, and prepare; for the sword has devoured around you. 15Why are your strong ones swept away? they didn’t stand, because Yahweh pushed them. 16He made many to stumble, yes, they fell one on another: and they said, Arise, and let us go again to our own people, and to the land of our birth, from the oppressing sword. 17They cried there, Pharaoh king of Egypt is but a noise; he has let the appointed time pass by. 18As I live, says the King, whose name is Yahweh of Armies, surely like Tabor among the mountains, and like Carmel by the sea, so shall he come. 19You daughter who dwells in Egypt, furnish yourself to go into captivity; for Memphis shall become a desolation, and shall be burnt up, without inhabitant. 20Egypt is a very beautiful heifer; but destruction out of the north has come, it has come. 21Also her hired men in the midst of her are like calves of the stall; for they also are turned back, they are fled away together, they didn’t stand: for the day of their calamity has come on them, the time of their visitation. 22The sound of it shall go like the serpent; for they shall march with an army, and come against her with axes, as wood cutters. 23They shall cut down her forest, says Yahweh, though it can’t be searched; because they are more than the locusts, and are innumerable. 24The daughter of Egypt shall be disappointed; she shall be delivered into the hand of the people of the north. 25Yahweh of Armies, the God of Israel, says: Behold, I will punish Amon of No, and Pharaoh, and Egypt, with her gods, and her kings; even Pharaoh, and those who trust in him: 26and I will deliver them into the hand of those who seek their lives, and into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, and into the hand of his servants; and afterwards it shall be inhabited, as in the days of old, says Yahweh. 27But don’t you be afraid, Jacob my servant, neither be dismayed, Israel: for, behold, I will save you from afar, and your seed from the land of their captivity; and Jacob shall return, and shall be quiet and at ease, and no one shall make him afraid. 28Don’t you be afraid, O Jacob my servant, says Yahweh; for I am with you: for I will make a full end of all the nations where I have driven you; but I will not make a full end of you, but I will correct you in measure, and will in no way leave you unpunished.
1Het woord des HEEREN, dat tot den profeet Jeremia geschied is tegen de heidenen. 2Tegen Egypte; tegen het heir van Farao Necho, koning van Egypte, dat aan de rivier Frath, bij Karchemis was, dat Nebukadrezar, de koning van Babel, sloeg, in het vierde jaar van Jojakim, den zoon van Josia, den koning van Juda. 3Rust het schild en de rondas toe, en nadert tot den strijd! 4Spant de paarden aan, en klimt op, gij ruiters! en stelt u met helmen; vaagt de spiesen, trekt de pantsiers aan! 5Waarom zie Ik, dat zij versaagd en achterwaarts gedreven zijn? Zelfs hun helden zijn verslagen, en nemen de vlucht, en zien niet om; er is schrik van rondom, spreekt de HEERE. 6De snelle ontvliede niet, en de held ontkome niet; tegen het noorden, aan den oever der rivier Frath zijn zij gestruikeld en gevallen. 7Wie is deze, die optrekt als een stroom, wiens wateren zich bewegen als de rivieren? 8Egypte trekt op als een stroom, en zijn wateren bewegen zich als de rivieren; en hij zegt: Ik zal optrekken, ik zal de aarde bedekken, ik zal de stad, en die daarin wonen, verderven. 9Trekt op, gij paarden! en raast, gij wagens! en laat de helden uittrekken: de Moren, en de Puteers, die het schild handelen, en de Lydiers, die den boog handelen en spannen. 10Maar deze dag is des HEEREN, des HEEREN der heirscharen, een dag der wrake, dat Hij zich wreke van Zijn wederpartijders, en het zwaard zal vreten, en verzadigd, en dronken worden van hun bloed; want de Heere, HEERE der heirscharen, heeft een slachtoffer in het land van het noorden, aan de rivier Frath. 11Ga henen op naar Gilead, en haal balsem, gij jonkvrouw, dochter van Egypte! Tevergeefs vermenigvuldigt gij de medicijnen, er is geen heling voor u. 12De volken hebben uw schande gehoord, en het land is vol van uw gekrijt; want zij hebben zich gestoten, held tegen held, zij zijn beiden te zamen gevallen. 13Het woord, dat de HEERE tot den profeet Jeremia sprak, van de aankomst van Nebukadrezar, den koning van Babel, om Egypteland te slaan. 14Verkondigt in Egypte, en doet het horen te Migdol; doet het ook horen te Nof en Tachpanhes; zegt: Stelt er u naar, en maakt u gereed, want het zwaard heeft verteerd, wat rondom u is. 15Waarom zijn uw sterken weggeveegd? Zij stonden niet, omdat hen de HEERE voortdreef. 16Hij maakte der struikelenden veel; ja, de een viel op den ander; zodat zij zeiden: Staat op en laat ons wederkeren tot ons volk, en tot het land onzer geboorte, vanwege het verdrukkende zwaard. 17Daar riepen zij: Farao, de koning van Egypte, is maar een gedruis; hij heeft den gezetten tijd laten voorbijgaan. 18Zo waarachtig als Ik leef, spreekt de Koning, Wiens Naam is HEERE der heirscharen; hij zal voorzeker, als Thabor onder de bergen, en als Karmel bij de zee, aankomen! 19Maak voor u gereedschap der gevankelijke wegvoering, gij inwoneres, gij dochter van Egypte! want Nof zal ter verwoesting worden, en zal verbrand worden, dat er niemand in wone. 20Egypte is een zeer schone vaarze; de slachter komt, hij komt van het noorden. 21Zelfs haar gehuurden in haar midden zijn als gemeste kalveren; maar die hebben zich ook gewend, zij zijn te zamen gevlucht, zij hebben niet gestaan; want de dag huns verderfs is over hen gekomen, de tijd hunner bezoeking. 22Haar stem zal gaan als van een slang; want zij zullen met krijgsmacht daarhenen trekken, en tot haar met bijlen komen, gelijk houthouwers. 23Zij hebben haar woud afgehouwen, spreekt de HEERE, hoewel het niet is te onderzoeken; want zij zijn meerder dan de sprinkhanen, zodat men hen niet tellen kan. 24De dochter van Egypte is beschaamd; zij is gegeven in de hand des volks van het noorden. 25De HEERE der heirscharen, de God Israels, zegt: Ziet, Ik zal bezoeking doen over de menigte van No, en over Farao, en over Egypte, en over haar goden, en over haar koningen, ja, over Farao, en over degenen, die op hem vertrouwen. 26En Ik zal hen geven in de hand dergenen, die hunlieder ziel zoeken, en in de hand van Nebukadrezar, den koning van Babel, en in de hand zijner knechten. Maar daarna zal zij bewoond worden als in de dagen van ouds, spreekt de HEERE. 27Maar gij, Mijn knecht Jakob! vrees niet, en ontzet u niet, o Israel! want zie, Ik zal u verlossen uit verre landen, en uw zaad uit het land hunner gevangenis; en Jakob zal wederkomen, en stil en gerust zijn, en niemand zal hem verschrikken. 28Gij dan Mijn knecht Jakob! vrees niet, spreekt de HEERE; want Ik ben met u; want Ik zal een voleinding maken met al de heidenen, waarhenen Ik u gedreven zal hebben, doch met u zal Ik geen voleinding maken, maar u kastijden met mate, en u niet gans onschuldig houden.
