1Palavra que veio do SENHOR a Jeremias, depois que Nabuzaradã, capitão da guarda, o deixara ir de Ramá; quando o tomou, estando ele acorrentado com cadeias no meio de todos os presos de Jerusalém e de Judá que foram levados cativos à Babilônia. 2Pois o capitão da guarda tomou a Jeremias, e lhe disse: O SENHOR teu Deus falou este mal contra este lugar; 3E o SENHOR trouxe e fez o que havia falado; porque pecastes contra o SENHOR, e não obedecestes a sua voz, por isso vos aconteceu isto. 4E agora, eis que soltei hoje das cadeias que estavam sobre tuas mãos. Se parece bom aos teus olhos vir comigo à Babilônia, vem, e eu olharei por teu bem; mas se te parece mau aos teus olhos vir comigo a Babilônia, não o faça; olha, toda a terra está diante de ti; onde te parecer melhor e mais correto aos teus olhos ir, para ali vai. 5Mas antes de Jeremias ter se virado, o capitão lhe disse mais : Volta para Gedalias, filho de Aicã, filho de Safã, ao qual o rei da Babilônia pôs sobre todas as cidades de Judá, e habita com ele em meio do povo; ou vai aonde te parecer mais correto aos teus olhos ir. E deu-lhe alimento para o caminho , e um presente; e o despediu. 6Assim foi Jeremias a Gedalias filho de Aicã, a Mispá, e habitou com ele em meio do povo que tinha restado na terra. 7E quando todos os príncipes do exércitos que estavam no campo, eles e seus homens, ouviram que o rei da Babilônia tinha posto a Gedalias filho de Aicã sobre a terra, e que tinha lhe encarregado dos homens, mulheres, e crianças, e os pobres da terra, os quais não foram levados em cativeiro à Babilônia, 8Vieram, pois, a Gedalias em Mispá. Eram eles : Ismael, filho de Netanias, Joanã e Jônatas, filhos de Careá, Seraías, filho de Tanumete, os filhos de Efai, o netofatita, e Jezanias, filho do maacatita; eles e seu homens. 9E Gedalias filho de Aicã, filho de Safã, jurou a eles e a seus homens, dizendo: Não temais servir aos caldeus; habitai na terra, e servi ao rei da Babilônia, e tereis bem. 10E eis que eu habito em Mispá, para estar diante dos caldeus que vierem a nós; e vós, colhei o vinho, os frutos do verão, e o azeite, e os ponde em vossos vasos, e habitai em vossas cidades que tomastes. 11E da mesma maneira todos os judeus que estavam em Moabe, e entre os filhos de Amom, e em Edom, e os que estavam em todas as terras, ouviram dizer que o rei da Babilônia tinha deixado alguns em Judá, e que tinha posto sobre eles a Gedalias filho de Aicã, filho de Safã. 12Todos estes judeus voltaram então de todas as partes para onde haviam sido lançados, e vieram à terra de Judá, a Gedalias em Mispá; e colheram vinho e muitos frutos de verão. 13E Joanã filho de Careá, e todos os comandantes dos exércitos que estavam em campo, vieram a Gedalias em Mispá, 14E lhe disseram: Com certeza tu sabes que Baalis, rei dos filhos de Amom, enviou a Ismael filho de Netanias, para te matar, não é verdade? Porém Gedalias filho de Aicã não creu neles. 15Então Joanã filho de Careá falou a Gedalias em segredo, em Mispá, dizendo: Eu irei agora, e ferirei a Ismael filho de Netanias, e ninguém saberá; por que haveria ele de te matar, e todos os judeus que se ajuntaram a ti se dispersarem, e perecerem o restante de Judá? 16Mas Gedalias filho de Aicã disse a Joanã filho de Careá: Não faças isto, pois o que tu dizes de Ismael é falso.
1The word which came to Jeremiah from Yahweh, after that Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard had let him go from Ramah, when he had taken him being bound in chains among all the captives of Jerusalem and Judah, who were carried away captive to Babylon. 2The captain of the guard took Jeremiah, and said to him, Yahweh your God pronounced this evil on this place; 3and Yahweh has brought it, and done according as he spoke: because you have sinned against Yahweh, and have not obeyed his voice, therefore this thing has come on you. 4Now, behold, I release you this day from the chains which are on your hand. If it seems good to you to come with me into Babylon, come, and I will take care of you; but if it seems bad to you to come with me into Babylon, don’t: behold, all the land is before you; where it seems good and right to you to go, there go. 5Now while he had not yet gone back, Go back then, he said, to Gedaliah the son of Ahikam, the son of Shaphan, whom the king of Babylon has made governor over the cities of Judah, and dwell with him among the people; or go wherever it seems right to you to go. So the captain of the guard gave him food and a present, and let him go. 6Then went Jeremiah to Gedaliah the son of Ahikam to Mizpah, and lived with him among the people who were left in the land. 7Now when all the captains of the forces who were in the fields, even they and their men, heard that the king of Babylon had made Gedaliah the son of Ahikam governor in the land, and had committed to him men, and women, and children, and of the poorest of the land, of those who were not carried away captive to Babylon; 8then they came to Gedaliah to Mizpah, Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, and Johanan and Jonathan the sons of Kareah, and Seraiah the son of Tanhumeth, and the sons of Ephai the Netophathite, and Jezaniah the son of the Maacathite, they and their men. 9Gedaliah the son of Ahikam the son of Shaphan swore to them and to their men, saying, Don’t be afraid to serve the Chaldeans: dwell in the land, and serve the king of Babylon, and it shall be well with you. 10As for me, behold, I will dwell at Mizpah, to stand before the Chaldeans who shall come to us: but you, gather wine and summer fruits and oil, and put them in your vessels, and dwell in your cities that you have taken. 11Likewise when all the Jews who were in Moab, and among the children of Ammon, and in Edom, and who were in all the countries, heard that the king of Babylon had left a remnant of Judah, and that he had set over them Gedaliah the son of Ahikam, the son of Shaphan; 12then all the Jews returned out of all places where they were driven, and came to the land of Judah, to Gedaliah, to Mizpah, and gathered wine and summer fruits very much. 13Moreover Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the captains of the forces who were in the fields, came to Gedaliah to Mizpah, 14and said to him, Do you know that Baalis the king of the children of Ammon has sent Ishmael the son of Nethaniah to take your life? But Gedaliah the son of Ahikam didn’t believe them. 15Then Johanan the son of Kareah spoke to Gedaliah in Mizpah secretly, saying, Please let me go, and I will kill Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, and no man shall know it: why should he take your life, that all the Jews who are gathered to you should be scattered, and the remnant of Judah perish? 16But Gedaliah the son of Ahikam said to Johanan the son of Kareah, You shall not do this thing; for you speak falsely of Ishmael.
1Het woord, dat van den HEERE geschied is tot Jeremia, nadat Nebuzaradan, de overste der trawanten, hem had laten gaan van Rama; als hij hem had laten halen, daar hij met ketenen gebonden was in het midden aller gevangenen van Jeruzalem en Juda, die naar Babel gevankelijk werden weggevoerd. 2Want de overste der trawanten liet Jeremia halen, en zeide tot hem: De HEERE, uw God, heeft dit kwaad over deze plaats gesproken. 3En de HEERE heeft het doen komen, en gedaan, gelijk als Hij gesproken had; want gijlieden hebt gezondigd tegen den HEERE, en Zijner stem niet gehoorzaamd; daarom is ulieden deze zaak geschied. 4Nu dan, zie, ik heb u heden losgemaakt van de ketenen, die aan uw hand waren; indien het goed is in uw ogen met mij naar Babel te komen, zo kom, en ik zal mijn oog op u stellen; maar indien het kwaad is in uw ogen met mij naar Babel te komen, zo laat het; zie, het ganse land is voor uw aangezicht, waarhenen het goed en recht in uw ogen is te gaan, ga daar. 5En dewijl hij nog niet zal wederkeren, zo keer gij tot Gedalia, den zoon van Ahikam, den zoon van Safan, dien de koning van Babel over de steden van Juda gesteld heeft; en woon bij hem in het midden des volks; of overal, waar het in uw ogen recht is te gaan, ga er henen. Maar Gedalia, de zoon van Ahikam, geloofde hen niet. 15Johanan nochtans, de zoon van Kareah, sprak tot Gedalia, in het verborgene, te Mizpa, zeggende: Laat mij toch henengaan, en Ismael, den zoon van Nethanja, slaan, en niemand zal het weten; waarom zou hij u aan het leven slaan, en gans Juda, die tot u vergaderd zijn, verstrooid worden, en het overblijfsel van Juda verloren gaan? 16Maar Gedalia, de zoon van Ahikam, zeide tot Johanan, den zoon van Kareah: Doe deze zaak niet, want gij spreekt vals van Ismael.
