1E o rei Zedequias, filho de Josias, reinou em lugar de Conias filho de Jeoaquim, ao qual Nabucodonosor, rei da Babilônia, tinha constituído por rei na terra de Judá. 2Porém nem ele, nem seus servos, nem o povo da terra, deram ouvidos às palavras do SENHOR, que falou por meio do profeta Jeremias. 3Porém o rei Zedequias mandou a Jucal filho de Selemias, e a Sofonias filho de Maaseias sacerdote, para que dissessem ao profeta Jeremias: Roga agora por nós ao SENHOR nosso Deus. 4E Jeremias tinha liberdade de entrar e sair entre o povo, pois não o tinham posto na casa do cárcere. 5E o exército de Faraó havia saído do Egito. E os caldeus que tinham cercado a Jerusalém, ao ouvirem esta notícia, foram embora de Jerusalém. 6Então veio palavra do SENHOR a Jeremias, o profeta, dizendo: 7Assim diz o SENHOR Deus de Israel: Assim direis ao rei de Judá, que vos enviou a mim para me perguntar: Eis que o exército de Faraó que saiu para vosso socorro voltará a sua terra, ao Egito. 8E os caldeus voltarão, e lutarão contra esta cidade; e a tomarão, e a queimarão a fogo. 9Assim diz o SENHOR: Não enganeis vossas almas, dizendo: Sem dúvida os caldeus irão embora de nós; pois não irão. 10Porque mesmo se ferísseis todo o exército dos caldeus que lutam contra vós, e restassem deles apenas homens feridos, ainda assim cada um se levantaria em sua tenda, e queimaria esta cidade a fogo. 11E aconteceu que, quando o exército dos caldeus havia saído de Jerusalém por causa do exército de Faraó, 12Jeremias saiu de Jerusalém para ir à terra de Benjamim, para ali receber sua parte no meio do povo. 13Porém quando ele chegou à porta de Benjamim, estava ali um capitão dos da guarda, cujo nome era Jerias, filho de Selemias, filho de Hananias; o qual prendeu ao profeta Jeremias, dizendo: Estás te rendendo aos caldeus. 14E disse Jeremias diz: Não é verdade; eu não estou me rendendo aos caldeus. Porém ele não lhe deu ouvidos; em vez disso, Jerias prendeu a Jeremias, e o levou aos príncipes. 15E os príncipes se iraram muito contra Jeremias, e o feriram; e o puseram na prisão, na casa do escriba Jônatas, pois a tinham tornado em cárcere. 16Jeremias entrou na casa da masmorra, e nas celas; e havendo Jeremias estado ali por muitos dias, 17O rei Zedequias enviou, e mandou trazê-lo; e o rei lhe perguntou em sua casa em segredo, e disse: Há alguma palavra do SENHOR? E Jeremias disse: Há. E ele disse: Na mão do rei da Babilônia serás entregue. 18Disse mais Jeremias ao rei Zedequias: Em que pequei contra ti, contra teus servos, e contra este povo, para que me pusésseis no cárcere? 19E onde estão vossos profetas que vos profetizavam, dizendo: Não virá o rei da Babilônia contra vós, nem contra esta terra? 20Agora pois, ouve, por favor, ó rei, meu senhor: chegue, por favor, minha súplica diante de ti, e não me deixes voltar à casa do escriba Jônatas, para que eu não morra ali. 21Então o rei Zedequias mandou que pusessem a Jeremias no pátio da guarda, e que lhe dessem uma porção de pão por dia, da rua dos padeiros, até todo o pão da cidade ter se acabado. Assim Jeremias ficou no pátio da guarda.
1Zedekiah the son of Josiah reigned as king, instead of Coniah the son of Jehoiakim, whom Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon made king in the land of Judah. 2But neither he, nor his servants, nor the people of the land, listened to Yahweh’s words, which he spoke by the prophet Jeremiah. 3Zedekiah the king sent Jehucal the son of Shelemiah, and Zephaniah the son of Maaseiah, the priest, to the prophet Jeremiah, saying, Pray now to Yahweh our God for us. 4Now Jeremiah came in and went out among the people; for they had not put him into prison. 5Pharaoh’s army had come out of Egypt; and when the Chaldeans who were besieging Jerusalem heard news of them, they broke up from Jerusalem. 6Then came Yahweh’s word to the prophet Jeremiah, saying, 7Thus says Yahweh, the God of Israel, You shall tell the king of Judah, who sent you to me to inquire of me: Behold, Pharaoh’s army, which has come out to help you, shall return to Egypt into their own land. 8The Chaldeans shall come again, and fight against this city; and they shall take it, and burn it with fire. 9Thus says Yahweh, Don’t deceive yourselves, saying, The Chaldeans shall surely depart from us; for they shall not depart. 10For though you had struck the whole army of the Chaldeans who fight against you, and there remained but wounded men among them, yes would they rise up every man in his tent, and burn this city with fire. 11When the army of the Chaldeans had broken up from Jerusalem for fear of Pharaoh’s army, 12then Jeremiah went out of Jerusalem to go into the land of Benjamin, to receive his portion there, in the midst of the people. 13When he was in the gate of Benjamin, a captain of the guard was there, whose name was Irijah, the son of Shelemiah, the son of Hananiah; and he laid hold on Jeremiah the prophet, saying, You are falling away to the Chaldeans. 14Then Jeremiah said, It is false; I am not falling away to the Chaldeans. But he didn’t listen to him; so Irijah laid hold on Jeremiah, and brought him to the princes. 15The princes were angry with Jeremiah, and struck him, and put him in prison in the house of Jonathan the scribe; for they had made that the prison. 16When Jeremiah had come into the dungeon house, and into the cells, and Jeremiah had remained there many days; 17Then Zedekiah the king sent, and fetched him: and the king asked him secretly in his house, and said, Is there any word from Yahweh? Jeremiah said, There is. He said also, You shall be delivered into the hand of the king of Babylon. 18Moreover Jeremiah said to king Zedekiah, Wherein have I sinned against you, or against your servants, or against this people, that you have put me in prison? 19Where now are your prophets who prophesied to you, saying, The king of Babylon shall not come against you, nor against this land? 20Now please hear, my lord the king: please let my supplication be presented before you, that you not cause me to return to the house of Jonathan the scribe, lest I die there. 21Then Zedekiah the king commanded, and they committed Jeremiah into the court of the guard; and they gave him daily a loaf of bread out of the bakers’ street, until all the bread in the city was spent. Thus Jeremiah remained in the court of the guard.
1En Zedekia, zoon van Josia, regeerde, koning zijnde, in plaats van Chonja, Jojakims zoon, welken Zedekia Nebukadrezar, de koning van Babel, koning gemaakt had in het land van Juda. 2Maar hij hoorde niet, hij, noch zijn knechten, noch het volk des lands, naar de woorden des HEEREN, die Hij sprak door den dienst van den profeet Jeremia. 3Nochtans zond de koning Zedekia Juchal, den zoon van Selemja, en Sefanja, den zoon van Maaseja, den priester, tot den profeet Jeremia, om te zeggen: Bid toch voor ons tot den HEERE, onzen God! 4(Want Jeremia was nog ingaande en uitgaande in het midden des volks, en zij hadden hem nog in het gevangenhuis niet gesteld. 5En Farao's heir was uit Egypte uitgetogen; en de Chaldeen, die Jeruzalem belegerden, als zij het gerucht van hen gehoord hadden, zo waren zij van Jeruzalem opgetogen.) 6Toen geschiedde des HEEREN woord tot den profeet Jeremia, zeggende: 7Zo zegt de HEERE, de God Israels: Zo zult gijlieden zeggen tot den koning van Juda, die u tot Mij gezonden heeft, om Mij te vragen: Ziet, Farao's heir, dat u ter hulpe uitgetogen is, zal wederkeren in zijn land, in Egypte; 8En de Chaldeen zullen wederkeren, en tegen deze stad strijden; en zij zullen ze innemen, en zullen ze met vuur verbranden. 9Zo zegt de HEERE: Bedriegt uw zielen niet, zeggende: De Chaldeen zullen zekerlijk van ons wegtrekken; want zij zullen niet wegtrekken. 10Want al sloegt gijlieden het ganse heir der Chaldeen, die tegen u strijden, en er bleven van hen enige verwonde mannen over, zo zouden zich die, een iegelijk in zijn tent, opmaken, en deze stad met vuur verbranden. 11Voorts geschiedde het, als het heir der Chaldeen van Jeruzalem was opgetogen, vanwege Farao's heir; 12Dat Jeremia uit Jeruzalem uitging, om te gaan in het land van Benjamin, om van daar te scheiden door het midden des volks. 13Als hij in de poort van Benjamin was, zo was daar de wachtmeester, wiens naam was Jerija, de zoon van Selemja, den zoon van Hananja; die greep den profeet Jeremia, zeggende: Gij wilt tot de Chaldeen vallen! 14En Jeremia zeide: Het is vals, ik wil niet tot de Chaldeen vallen. En Jeremia zeide: Er is; en hij zeide: Gij zult in de hand des konings van Babel gegeven worden. 18Voorts zeide Jeremia tot den koning Zedekia: Wat heb ik tegen u, of tegen uw knechten, of tegen dit volk gezondigd, dat gijlieden mij in het gevangenhuis gesteld hebt? 19Waar zijn nu ulieder profeten, die u geprofeteerd hebben, zeggende: De koning van Babel zal niet tegen ulieden, noch tegen dit land komen. 20Nu dan, hoor toch, o mijn heer koning! laat toch mijn smeking voor uw aangezicht nedervallen, en breng mij niet weder in het huis van Jonathan, den schrijver, opdat ik aldaar niet sterve. 21Toen gaf de koning Zedekia bevel; en zij bestelden Jeremia in het voorhof der bewaring, en men gaf hem des daags een bol broods uit de Bakkerstraat, totdat al het brood van de stad op was. Alzo bleef Jeremia in het voorhof der bewaring.
