1Sucedeu, no quarto ano de Jeoaquim, filho de Josias, rei de Judá, que veio esta palavra do SENHOR a Jeremias, dizendo: 2Toma para ti um rolo de livro, e escreve nele todas as palavras que falei a ti sobre Israel e sobre Judá, e sobre todas as nações, desde o dia que comecei a falar a ti, desde os dias de Josias até hoje. 3Talvez a casa de Judá ouça todo o mal que eu penso lhes fazer; para que cada um se converta de seu mau caminho; então eu perdoarei a maldade e o pecado deles. 4Então Jeremias chamou a Baruque, filho de Nerias; e Baruque escreveu da boca de Jeremias, em um rolo de livro, todas as palavras que o SENHOR havia lhe falado. 5E Jeremias mandou a Baruque, dizendo: Eu estou preso, não posso entrar na casa de SENHOR; 6Portanto entra tu, e lê do rolo que escreveste de minha boca as palavras do SENHOR aos ouvidos do povo, na casa do SENHOR, no dia do jejum; e também as lerás aos ouvidos de todo Judá, os que vêm de suas cidades. 7Talvez a oração deles chegue à presença do SENHOR, e cada um se converta de seu mau caminho; porque grande é a ira e o furor que o SENHOR tem pronunciado contra este povo. 8E Baruque filho de Nerias fez conforme a tudo quanto o profeta Jeremias havia lhe mandado, lendo naquele livro as palavras do SENHOR na casa do SENHOR. 9E aconteceu no quinto ano de Jeoaquim filho de Josias, rei de Judá, no nono mês, que proclamaram jejum diante do SENHOR, a todo o povo em Jerusalém, como também a todo o povo que vinha das cidades de Judá a Jerusalém. 10Então Baruque leu naquele livro as palavras de Jeremias na casa do SENHOR, na câmara de Gemarias, filho de Safã, o escriba, no pático de cima, à entrada da porta nova da casa do SENHOR, aos ouvidos de todo o povo. 11E Miqueias, filho de Gemarias, filho de Safã, quando ouviu todas as palavras do SENHOR daquele livro, 12Desceu à casa do rei, à câmara do escriba; e eis que estavam ali sentados todos os príncipes: Elisama, o escriba; Delaías filho de Semeías; Elnatã filho de Acbor; Gemarias filho de Safã; Zedequias filho de Ananias; como também a todos os príncipes. 13E Miqueias lhes anunciou todas as palavras que tinha ouvido enquanto Baruque lia no livro aos ouvidos do povo. 14Então todos os príncipes enviaram a Jeudi filho de Netanias, filho de Selemias, filho de Cusi, para que dissesse a Baruque: Toma o rolo em que leste aos ouvidos do povo, e vem. Então Baruque filho de Nerias tomou o rolo em sua mão, e veio a eles. 15E lhe disseram: Senta-te agora, e o lê aos nossos ouvidos. E Baruque leu aos seus ouvidos. 16E sucedeu que, quando ouviram todas aquelas palavras, cada um se voltou espantado uns aos outros, e disseram a Baruque: Sem dúvida alguma anunciaremos ao rei todas estas palavras. 17E perguntaram a Baruque, dizendo: Conta-nos agora: como escreveste todas estas palavras? Da boca de Jeremias ? 18E Baruque lhes disse: Ele me ditava de sua boca todas estas palavras, e eu escrevia no livro com tinta. 19Então disseram os príncipes a Baruque: Vai, e esconde-te, tu e Jeremias, e ninguém saiba onde estais. 20E foram ao encontro do rei no pátio, porém o rolo depositaram na câmara de Elisama, o escriba; e contaram aos ouvidos do rei todas aquelas palavras. 21Então o rei enviou a Jeudi para que tomasse o rolo; e o tomou da câmara de Elisama, o escriba, e Jeudi o leu aos ouvidos do rei, e aos ouvidos de todos os príncipes que estavam junto ao rei. 22(E o rei estava na casa de inverno, no nono mês; e havia diante dele um braseiro aceso); 23E sucedeu que, havendo Jeudi lido três ou quatro colunas, rasgou-o com uma lâmina de escrever, e o lançou no fogo que tinha no braseiro, até que todo o rolo se consumiu no fogo que estava no braseiro. 24E não temeram, nem rasgaram suas vestes, o rei e todos seus servos que ouviram todas estas palavras. 25E ainda que Elnatã, Delaías e Gemarias tenham rogado ao rei que não queimasse aquele rolo, mesmo assim ele se recusou a os ouvir; 26Em vez disso, o rei mandou a Jerameel filho do rei, a Seraías filho de Azriel, e a Selemias filho de Abdeel, que prendessem ao escriba Baruque e ao profeta Jeremias; mas o SENHOR havia os escondido. 27Então veio a palavra do SENHOR a Jeremias, depois do rei ter queimado o rolo, e as palavras que Baruque tinha escrito da boca de Jeremias, dizendo: 28Toma de novo outro rolo, e escreve nele todas as primeiras palavras que estavam no primeiro rolo, o qual queimou Jeoaquim, rei de Judá. 29E dirás a Jeoaquim rei de Judá: Assim diz o SENHOR: Tu queimaste este rolo, dizendo: Por que escreveste nele, dizendo: Certamente virá o rei da Babilônia, e destruirá esta terra, e fará com que não fiquem nela homens nem animais? 30Portanto assim diz o SENHOR quanto a Joaquim rei de Judá: Ele não terá quem se sente sobre o trono de Davi; e seu cadáver será lançado ao calor do dia e à geada da noite. 31E punirei a ele, assim como sua semente e os seus servos, por sua perversidade; e trarei sobre eles, sobre os moradores de Jerusalém, e sobre os homens de Judá, todo o mal que tenho lhes dito mas não quiseram ouvir. 32Então Jeremias tomou outro rolo, e o deu a Baruque filho de Nerias, o escriba; o qual escreveu nele da boca de Jeremias todas as palavras do livro que Jeoaquim, rei de Judá, tinha queimado a fogo; e ainda foram acrescentadas a elas muitas outras palavras semelhantes.
1In the fourth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah, this word came to Jeremiah from Yahweh, saying, 2Take a scroll of a book, and write therein all the words that I have spoken to you against Israel, and against Judah, and against all the nations, from the day I spoke to you, from the days of Josiah, even to this day. 3It may be that the house of Judah will hear all the evil which I purpose to do to them; that they may return every man from his evil way; that I may forgive their iniquity and their sin. 4Then Jeremiah called Baruch the son of Neriah; and Baruch wrote from the mouth of Jeremiah all Yahweh’s words, which he had spoken to him, on a scroll of a book. 5Jeremiah commanded Baruch, saying, I am shut up; I can’t go into Yahweh’s house: 6therefore you go, and read in the scroll, which you have written from my mouth, Yahweh’s words in the ears of the people in Yahweh’s house on the fast day; and also you shall read them in the ears of all Judah who come out of their cities. 7It may be they will present their supplication before Yahweh, and will return everyone from his evil way; for great is the anger and the wrath that Yahweh has pronounced against this people. 8Baruch the son of Neriah did according to all that Jeremiah the prophet commanded him, reading in the book Yahweh’s words in Yahweh’s house. 9Now in the fifth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah, in the ninth month, all the people in Jerusalem, and all the people who came from the cities of Judah to Jerusalem, proclaimed a fast before Yahweh. 10Then Baruch read the words of Jeremiah from the book in Yahweh’s house, in the room of Gemariah the son of Shaphan, the scribe, in the upper court, at the entry of the new gate of Yahweh’s house, in the ears of all the people. 11When Micaiah the son of Gemariah, the son of Shaphan, had heard out of the book all Yahweh’s words, 12he went down into the king’s house, into the scribe’s room: and behold, all the princes were sitting there, Elishama the scribe, and Delaiah the son of Shemaiah, and Elnathan the son of Achbor, and Gemariah the son of Shaphan, and Zedekiah the son of Hananiah, and all the princes. 13Then Micaiah declared to them all the words that he had heard, when Baruch read the book in the ears of the people. 14Therefore all the princes sent Jehudi the son of Nethaniah, the son of Shelemiah, the son of Cushi, to Baruch, saying, Take in your hand the scroll in which you have read in the ears of the people, and come. So Baruch the son of Neriah took the scroll in his hand, and came to them. 15They said to him, Sit down now, and read it in our ears. So Baruch read it in their ears. 16Now when they had heard all the words, they turned in fear one toward another, and said to Baruch, “We will surely tell the king of all these words.” 17They asked Baruch, saying, Tell us now, How did you write all these words at his mouth? 18Then Baruch answered them, He pronounced all these words to me with his mouth, and I wrote them with ink in the book. 19Then the princes said to Baruch, Go, hide, you and Jeremiah; and let no man know where you are. 20They went in to the king into the court; but they had laid up the scroll in the room of Elishama the scribe; and they told all the words in the ears of the king. 21So the king sent Jehudi to get the scroll; and he took it out of the room of Elishama the scribe. Jehudi read it in the ears of the king, and in the ears of all the princes who stood beside the king. 22Now the king was sitting in the winter house in the ninth month: and there was a fire in the brazier burning before him. 23When Jehudi had read three or four leaves, the king cut it with the penknife, and cast it into the fire that was in the brazier, until all the scroll was consumed in the fire that was in the brazier. 24They were not afraid, nor tore their garments, neither the king, nor any of his servants who heard all these words. 25Moreover Elnathan and Delaiah and Gemariah had made intercession to the king that he would not burn the scroll; but he would not hear them. 26The king commanded Jerahmeel the king’s son, and Seraiah the son of Azriel, and Shelemiah the son of Abdeel, to take Baruch the scribe and Jeremiah the prophet; but Yahweh hid them. 27Then Yahweh’s word came to Jeremiah, after that the king had burned the scroll, and the words which Baruch wrote at the mouth of Jeremiah, saying, 28Take again another scroll, and write in it all the former words that were in the first scroll, which Jehoiakim the king of Judah has burned. 29Concerning Jehoiakim king of Judah you shall say, Thus says Yahweh: You have burned this scroll, saying, Why have you written therein, saying, The king of Babylon shall certainly come and destroy this land, and shall cause to cease from there man and animal? 30Therefore thus says Yahweh concerning Jehoiakim king of Judah: He shall have no one to sit on the throne of David; and his dead body shall be cast out in the day to the heat, and in the night to the frost. 31I will punish him and his seed and his servants for their iniquity; and I will bring on them, and on the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and on the men of Judah, all the evil that I have pronounced against them, but they didn’t listen. 32Then took Jeremiah another scroll, and gave it to Baruch the scribe, the son of Neriah, who wrote therein from the mouth of Jeremiah all the words of the book which Jehoiakim king of Judah had burned in the fire; and many similar words were added to them.
1Het gebeurde ook in het vierde jaar van Jojakim, den zoon van Josia, den koning van Juda, dat dit woord tot Jeremia geschiedde van den HEERE, zeggende: 2Neem u een rol des boeks, en schrijf daarop al de woorden, die Ik tot u gesproken heb, over Israel, en over Juda, en over al de volken, van den dag aan, dat Ik tot u gesproken heb, van de dagen van Josia aan, tot op dezen dag. 3Misschien zullen die van het huis van Juda horen al het kwaad, dat Ik hun gedenk te doen; opdat zij zich bekeren, een iegelijk van zijn bozen weg, en Ik hun ongerechtigheid en hun zonde vergeve. 4Toen riep Jeremia Baruch, den zoon van Nerija; en Baruch schreef uit den mond van Jeremia alle woorden des HEEREN, die Hij tot hem gesproken had, op een rol des boeks. 5En Jeremia gebood Baruch, zeggende: Ik ben opgehouden, ik zal in des HEEREN huis niet kunnen gaan. 6Zo ga gij henen, en lees in de rol, in dewelke gij uit mijn mond geschreven hebt, de woorden des HEEREN, voor de oren des volks, in des HEEREN huis, op den vastendag; en gij zult ze ook lezen voor de oren van gans Juda, die uit hun steden komen. 7Misschien zal hunlieder smeking voor des HEEREN aangezicht nedervallen, en zij zullen zich bekeren, een iegelijk van zijn bozen weg; want groot is de toorn en de grimmigheid, die de HEERE tegen dit volk heeft uitgesproken. 8En Baruch, de zoon van Nerija, deed naar alles, wat hem de profeet Jeremia geboden had, lezende in dat boek de woorden des HEEREN, in het huis des HEEREN. 9Want het geschiedde in het vijfde jaar van Jojakim, den zoon van Josia, den koning van Juda, in de negende maand, dat zij een vasten voor des HEEREN aangezicht uitriepen, allen volke te Jeruzalem, mitsgaders allen volke, die uit de steden van Juda te Jeruzalem kwamen. 10Zo las Baruch in dat boek de woorden van Jeremia in des HEEREN huis, in de kamer van Gemarja, den zoon van Safan, den schrijver, in het bovenste voorhof, aan de deur der nieuwe poort van het huis des HEEREN, voor de oren des gansen volks. 11Als nu Michaja, de zoon van Gemarja, den zoon van Safan, al de woorden des HEEREN uit dat boek gehoord had; 12Zo ging hij af ten huize des konings in de kamer des schrijvers; en ziet, aldaar zaten al de vorsten: Elisama, de schrijver, en Delaja, de zoon van Semaja, en Elnathan, de zoon van Achbor, en Gemarja, de zoon van Safan, en Zedekia, de zoon van Hananja, en al de vorsten. 13En Michaja maakte hun bekend al de woorden, die hij gehoord had, als Baruch uit dat boek las voor de oren des volks. 14Toen zonden al de vorsten Jehudi, den zoon van Nethanja, den zoon van Selemja, den zoon van Cuschi, tot Baruch, om te zeggen: De rol, waarin gij voor de oren des volks gelezen hebt, neem die in uw hand, en kom. Alzo nam Baruch, de zoon van Nerija, de rol in zijn hand, en kwam tot hen. 15En zij zeiden tot hem: Zit toch neder, en lees ze voor onze oren; en Baruch las voor hun oren. 16En het geschiedde, als zij al de woorden hoorden, dat zij verschrikten, de een tegen den ander; en zij zeiden tot Baruch: Voorzeker zullen wij al deze woorden den koning bekend maken. 17En zij vraagden Baruch, zeggende: Verklaar ons toch, hoe hebt gij al deze woorden uit zijn mond geschreven? 18En Baruch zeide tot hen: Uit zijn mond las hij tot mij al deze woorden, en ik schreef ze met inkt in dit boek. 19Toen zeiden de vorsten tot Baruch: Ga henen, verberg u, gij en Jeremia; en niemand wete, waar gijlieden zijt. 20Zij dan gingen in tot den koning in het voorhof; maar de rol legden zij weg in de kamer van Elisama, den schrijver; en zij verklaarden al die woorden voor de oren des konings. 21Toen zond de koning Jehudi, om de rol te halen; en hij haalde ze uit de kamer van Elisama, den schrijver; en Jehudi las ze voor de oren des konings, en voor de oren van al de vorsten, die omtrent den koning stonden. 22(De koning nu zat in het winterhuis in de negende maand; en er was een vuur voor zijn aangezicht op den haard aangestoken.) 23En het geschiedde, als Jehudi drie stukken, of vier gelezen had, versneed hij ze met een schrijfmes, en wierp ze in het vuur, dat op den haard was, totdat de ganse rol verteerd was in het vuur, dat op den haard was. 24En zij verschrikten niet, en scheurden hun klederen niet, de koning noch al zijn knechten, die al deze woorden gehoord hadden. 25Hoewel ook Elnathan, en Delaja, en Gemarja bij den koning daarvoor spraken, dat hij de rol niet zou verbranden; doch hij hoorde naar hen niet. 26Daartoe gebood de koning aan Jerahmeel, den zoon van Hammelech, en Zeraja, den zoon van Azriel, en Selemja, den zoon van Abdeel, om den schrijver Baruch en den profeet Jeremia te vangen. Maar de HEERE had hen verborgen. 27Toen geschiedde des HEEREN woord tot Jeremia, nadat de koning de rol en de woorden, die Baruch geschreven had uit den mond van Jeremia, verbrand had, zeggende: 28Neem u weder een andere rol, en schrijf daarop al de eerste woorden, die geweest zijn op de eerste rol, die Jojakim, de koning van Juda, verbrand heeft. 29En tot Jojakim, den koning van Juda, zult gij zeggen: Zo zegt de HEERE: Gij hebt deze rol verbrand, zeggende: Waarom hebt gij daarop geschreven, zeggende: De koning van Babel zal zekerlijk komen, en dit land verderven, en maken, dat mens en beest daarin ophouden? 30Daarom zegt de HEERE alzo van Jojakim, den koning van Juda: Hij zal geen hebben, die op Davids troon zitte; en zijn dood lichaam zal weggeworpen zijn, des daags in de hitte, en des nachts in de vorst. 31En Ik zal over hem, en over zijn zaad, en over zijn knechten hunlieder ongerechtigheid bezoeken; en Ik zal over hen, en over de inwoners van Jeruzalem, en over de mannen van Juda, al het kwaad brengen, dat Ik tot hen gesproken heb; maar zij hebben niet gehoord. 32Jeremia dan nam een andere rol, en gaf ze aan den schrijver Baruch, den zoon van Nerija; die schreef daarop, uit den mond van Jeremia, al de woorden des boeks, dat Jojakim, de koning van Juda, met vuur verbrand had; en tot dezelve werden nog veel dergelijke woorden toegedaan.
