1Non immolerai all’Eterno, al tuo Dio, bue o pecora che abbia qualche difetto o qualche deformità, perché sarebbe cosa abominevole per l’Eterno, ch’è il tuo Dio. 2Se si troverà nel tuo mezzo, in una delle città che l’Eterno, il tuo Dio, ti dà, un uomo o una donna che faccia ciò che è male agli occhi dell’Eterno, del tuo Dio, trasgredendo il suo patto 3e che vada e serva ad altri dèi e si prostri dinanzi a loro, dinanzi al sole o alla luna o a tutto l’esercito celeste, cosa che io non ho comandata, 4quando ciò ti sia riferito e tu l’abbia saputo, informatene diligentemente; e se è vero, se il fatto sussiste, se una tale abominazione è stata realmente commessa in Israele, 5farai condurre alle porte della tua città quell’uomo o quella donna che avrà commesso quell’atto malvagio, e lapiderai quell’uomo o quella donna, sì che muoia. 6Colui che dovrà morire sarà messo a morte sulla deposizione di due o di tre testimoni; non sarà messo a morte sulla deposizione di un solo testimonio. 7La mano dei testimoni sarà la prima a levarsi contro di lui per farlo morire; poi, la mano di tutto il popolo; così torrai il male di mezzo a te. 8Quando il giudizio d’una causa sarà troppo difficile per te, sia che si tratti d’un omicidio o d’una contestazione o d’un ferimento, di materie da processo entro le tue porte, ti leverai e salirai al luogo che l’Eterno, il tuo Dio, avrà scelto; 9andrai dai sacerdoti levitici e dal giudice in carica a quel tempo; li consulterai, ed essi ti faranno conoscere ciò che dice il diritto; 10e tu ti conformerai a quello ch’essi ti dichiareranno nel luogo che l’Eterno avrà scelto, e avrai cura di fare tutto quello che t’avranno insegnato. 11Ti conformerai alla legge ch’essi t’avranno insegnata e al diritto come te l’avranno dichiarato; non devierai da quello che t’avranno insegnato, né a destra né a sinistra. 12E l’uomo che avrà la presunzione di non dare ascolto al sacerdote che sta là per servire l’Eterno, il tuo Dio, o al giudice, quell’uomo morrà; così torrai via il male da Israele; 13e tutto il popolo udrà la cosa, temerà, e non agirà più con presunzione. 14Quando sarai entrato nel paese che l’Eterno, il tuo Dio, ti dà e ne avrai preso possesso e l’abiterai, se dici: "Voglio costituire su di me un re come tutte le nazioni che mi circondano", 15dovrai costituire su di te come re colui che l’Eterno, il tuo Dio, avrà scelto. Costituirai su di te come re uno de’ tuoi fratelli; non potrai costituire su di te uno straniero che non sia tuo fratello. 16Però, non abbia egli gran numero di cavalli, e non riconduca il popolo in Egitto per procurarsi gran numero di cavalli, poiché l’Eterno vi ha detto: "Non rifarete mai più quella via". 17E neppure abbia gran numero di mogli, affinché il suo cuore non si svii; e neppure abbia gran quantità d’argento e d’oro. 18E quando s’insedierà sul suo trono reale, scriverà per suo uso in un libro, una copia di questa legge secondo l’esemplare dei sacerdoti levitici. 19E terrà il libro presso di sé, e vi leggerà dentro tutti i giorni della sua vita, per imparare a temere l’Eterno, il suo Dio, a mettere diligentemente in pratica tutte le parole di questa legge e tutte queste prescrizioni, 20affinché il cuor suo non si elevi al disopra de’ suoi fratelli, ed egli non devii da questi comandamenti né a destra né a sinistra, e prolunghi così i suoi giorni nel suo regno, egli coi suoi figliuoli, in mezzo ad Israele.
1You shall not sacrifice to Yahweh your God an ox, or a sheep, in which is a defect, or anything evil; for that is an abomination to Yahweh your God. 2If there is found in your midst, within any of your gates which Yahweh your God gives you, a man or woman who does that which is evil in the sight of Yahweh your God, in transgressing his covenant, 3and has gone and served other gods, and worshiped them, or the sun, or the moon, or any of the stars of the sky, which I have not commanded; 4and you are told, and you have heard of it, then you shall inquire diligently. Behold, if it is true, and the thing certain, that such abomination is done in Israel, 5then you shall bring out that man or that woman, who has done this evil thing, to your gates, even that same man or woman; and you shall stone them to death with stones. 6At the mouth of two witnesses, or three witnesses, he who is to die shall be put to death. At the mouth of one witness he shall not be put to death. 7The hand of the witnesses shall be first on him to put him to death, and afterward the hand of all the people. So you shall remove the evil from your midst. 8If there arises a matter too hard for you in judgment, between blood and blood, between plea and plea, and between stroke and stroke, being matters of controversy within your gates; then you shall arise, and go up to the place which Yahweh your God chooses. 9You shall come to the priests who are Levites, and to the judge who shall be in those days. You shall inquire, and they shall give you the verdict. 10You shall do according to the decisions of the verdict which they shall give you from that place which Yahweh chooses. You shall observe to do according to all that they shall teach you: 11according to the decisions of the law which they shall teach you, and according to the judgment which they shall tell you, you shall do. You shall not turn aside from the sentence which they shall show you, to the right hand, nor to the left. 12The man who does presumptuously, in not listening to the priest who stands to minister there before Yahweh your God, or to the judge, even that man shall die. You shall put away the evil from Israel. 13All the people shall hear, and fear, and do no more presumptuously. 14When you have come to the land which Yahweh your God gives you, and possess it, and dwell in it, and say, “I will set a king over me, like all the nations that are around me”; 15you shall surely set him king over yourselves, whom Yahweh your God chooses. You shall set as king over you one from among your brothers. You may not put a foreigner over you, who is not your brother. 16Only he shall not multiply horses to himself, nor cause the people to return to Egypt, to the end that he may multiply horses; because Yahweh has said to you, “You shall not go back that way again.” 17He shall not multiply wives to himself, that his heart not turn away. He shall not greatly multiply to himself silver and gold. 18It shall be, when he sits on the throne of his kingdom, that he shall write himself a copy of this law in a book, out of that which is before the priests the Levites. 19It shall be with him, and he shall read from it all the days of his life; that he may learn to fear Yahweh his God, to keep all the words of this law and these statutes, to do them; 20that his heart not be lifted up above his brothers, and that he not turn aside from the commandment, to the right hand, or to the left; to the end that he may prolong his days in his kingdom, he and his children, in the midst of Israel.
1Gij zult den HEERE, uw God, geen os of klein vee offeren, waaraan een gebrek zij of enig kwaad; want dat is den HEERE, uw God, een gruwel. 2Wanneer in het midden van u, in een uwer poorten, die de HEERE, uw God, u geeft, een man of vrouw gevonden zal worden, die doen zal, dat kwaad is in de ogen des HEEREN, uws Gods, overtredende Zijn verbond; 3Dat hij heengaat, en dient andere goden, en buigt zich voor die, of voor de zon, of voor de maan, of voor het ganse heir des hemels, hetwelk ik niet geboden heb; 4En het wordt u aangezegd, en gij hoort het; zo zult gij het wel onderzoeken; en ziet, het is de waarheid, de zaak is zeker, zulk een gruwel is in Israel gedaan; 5Zo zult gij dien man of die vrouw, die ditzelve boze stuk gedaan hebben, tot uw poorten uitbrengen, dien man zeg ik, of die vrouw; en gij zult hen met stenen stenigen, dat zij sterven. 6Op den mond van twee getuigen, of drie getuigen, zal hij gedood worden, die sterven zal; op den mond van een enigen getuige zal hij niet gedood worden. 7De hand der getuigen zal eerst tegen hem zijn, om hem te doden, en daarna de hand des gansen volks; zo zult gij het boze uit het midden van u wegdoen. 8Wanneer een zaak aan het gericht voor u te zwaar zal zijn, tussen bloed en bloed, tussen rechtshandel en rechtshandel, tussen plage en plage, zijnde twistzaken in uw poorten, zo zult gij u opmaken, en opgaan naar de plaats, die de HEERE, uw God, verkiezen zal; 9En gij zult komen tot de Levietische priesters, en tot den rechter, die in die dagen zijn zal; en gij zult ondervragen, en zij zullen u de zaak des rechts aanzeggen. 10En gij zult doen naar de mond des woords, dat zij u zullen aanzeggen, van diezelve plaats, die de HEERE verkiezen zal, en gij zult waarnemen te doen naar alles, wat zij u zullen leren. 11Naar de mond der wet, die zij u zullen leren, en naar het oordeel, dat zij u zullen zeggen, zult gij doen; gij zult niet afwijken van het woord, dat zij u zullen aanzeggen, ter rechterhand of ter linkerhand. 12De man nu, die trotselijk handelen zal, dat hij niet hore naar den priester, dewelke staat, om aldaar den HEERE, uw God, te dienen, of naar den rechter, dezelve man zal sterven; en gij zult het boze uit Israel wegdoen. 13Dat het al dat volk hore en vreze, en niet meer trotselijk handele. 14Wanneer gij zult gekomen zijn in het land, dat u de HEERE, uw God, geeft, en gij dat erfelijk zult bezitten en daarin wonen, en gij zeggen zult: Ik zal een koning over mij stellen, als al de volken, die rondom mij zijn; 15Zo zult gij ganselijk tot koning over u stellen, dien de HEERE, uw God, verkiezen zal; uit het midden uwer broederen zult gij een koning over u stellen; gij zult niet vermogen over u te zetten een vreemden man, die uw broeder niet zij. 16Maar hij zal voor zich de paarden niet vermenigvuldigen, en het volk niet doen wederkeren naar Egypte, om paarden te vermenigvuldigen; terwijl de HEERE ulieden gezegd heeft: Gij zult voortaan niet wederkeren door dezen weg. 17Ook zal hij voor zich de vrouwen niet vermenigvuldigen, opdat zijn hart niet afwijke; hij zal ook voor zich geen zilver en goud zeer vermenigvuldigen. 18Voorts zal het geschieden, als hij op den stoel zijns koninkrijks zal zitten, zo zal hij zich een dubbel van deze wet afschrijven in een boek, uit hetgeen voor het aangezicht der Levietische priesteren is; 19En het zal bij hem zijn, en hij zal daarin lezen al de dagen zijns levens; opdat hij den HEERE, zijn God, lere vrezen, om te bewaren al de woorden dezer wet en deze inzettingen, om die te doen; 20Dat zijn hart zich niet verheffe boven zijn broederen, en dat hij niet afwijke van het gebod, ter rechterhand of ter linkerhand; opdat hij de dagen verlenge in zijn koninkrijk, hij en zijn zonen, in het midden van Israel.
