1Quando sorgerà in mezzo a te un profeta o un sognatore che ti mostri un segno o un prodigio, 2e il segno o il prodigio di cui t’avrà parlato succeda, ed egli ti dica: "Andiamo dietro a dèi stranieri (che tu non hai mai conosciuto) e ad essi serviamo", 3tu non darai retta alle parole di quel profeta o di quel sognatore; perché l’Eterno, il vostro Dio, vi mette alla prova per sapere se amate l’Eterno, il vostro Dio, con tutto il vostro cuore e con tutta l’anima vostra. 4Seguirete l’Eterno, l’Iddio vostro, temerete lui, osserverete i suoi comandamenti, ubbidirete alla sua voce, a lui servirete e vi terrete stretti. 5E quel profeta o quel sognatore sarà messo a morte, perché avrà predicato l’apostasia dall’Eterno, dal vostro Dio, che vi ha tratti dal paese d’Egitto e vi ha redenti dalla casa di schiavitù, per spingerti fuori della via per la quale l’Eterno, il tuo Dio, t’ha ordinato di camminare. Così toglierai il male di mezzo a te. 6Se il tuo fratello, figliuolo di tua madre, o il tuo figliuolo o la tua figliuola o la moglie che riposa sul tuo seno o l’amico che ti è come un altro te stesso t’inciterà in segreto, dicendo: "Andiamo, serviamo ad altri dèi": dèi che né tu né i tuoi padri avete mai conosciuti, 7dèi de’ popoli che vi circondano, vicini a te o da te lontani, da una estremità all’altra della terra, 8tu non acconsentire, non gli dar retta; l’occhio tuo non abbia pietà per lui; non lo risparmiare, non lo ricettare; 9anzi uccidilo senz’altro; la tua mano sia la prima a levarsi su lui, per metterlo a morte; poi venga la mano di tutto il popolo; 10lapidalo, e muoia, perché ha cercato di spingerti lungi dall’Eterno, dall’Iddio tuo, che ti trasse dal paese d’Egitto, dalla casa di schiavitù. 11E tutto Israele l’udrà e temerà e non commetterà più nel mezzo di te una simile azione malvagia. 12Se sentirai dire di una delle tue città che l’Eterno, il tuo Dio, ti dà per abitarle: 13"Degli uomini perversi sono usciti di mezzo a te e hanno sedotto gli abitanti della loro città dicendo: Andiamo, serviamo ad altri dèi" (che voi non avete mai conosciuti), 14tu farai delle ricerche, investigherai, interrogherai con cura; e, se troverai che sia vero, che il fatto sussiste e che una tale abominazione è stata realmente commessa in mezzo a te, 15allora metterai senz’altro a fil di spada gli abitanti di quella città, la voterai allo sterminio, con tutto quel che contiene, e passerai a fil di spada anche il suo bestiame. 16E radunerai tutto il bottino in mezzo alla piazza, e darai interamente alle fiamme la città con tutto il suo bottino, come sacrifizio arso interamente all’Eterno, ch’è il vostro Dio; essa sarà in perpetuo un mucchio di rovine, e non sarà mai più riedificata. 17E nulla di ciò che sarà così votato allo sterminio s’attaccherà alle tue mani, affinché l’Eterno si distolga dall’ardore della sua ira, ti faccia misericordia, abbia pietà di te e ti moltiplichi, come giurò di fare ai tuoi padri, 18quando tu obbedisca alla voce dell’Eterno, del tuo Dio, osservando tutti i suoi comandamenti che oggi ti do, e facendo ciò ch’è retto agli occhi dell’Eterno, ch’è il tuo Dio.
1If a prophet or a dreamer of dreams arises in your midst you, and he gives you a sign or a wonder, 2and the sign or the wonder comes to pass, of which he spoke to you, saying, “Let us go after other gods” (which you have not known) “and let us serve them”; 3you shall not listen to the words of that prophet, or to that dreamer of dreams; for Yahweh your God is testing you, to know whether you love Yahweh your God with all your heart and with all your soul. 4You shall walk after Yahweh your God, fear him, keep his commandments, and obey his voice, and you shall serve him, and cling to him. 5That prophet, or that dreamer of dreams, shall be put to death, because he has spoken rebellion against Yahweh your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, and redeemed you out of the house of bondage, to draw you aside out of the way which Yahweh your God commanded you to walk in. So you shall remove the evil from your midst. 6If your brother, the son of your mother, or your son, or your daughter, or the wife of your bosom, or your friend, who is as your own soul, entices you secretly, saying, “Let us go and serve other gods,” which you have not known, you, nor your fathers; 7of the gods of the peoples who are around you, near to you, or far off from you, from the one end of the earth even to the other end of the earth; 8you shall not consent to him, nor listen to him; neither shall your eye pity him, neither shall you spare, neither shall you conceal him; 9but you shall surely kill him. Your hand shall be first on him to put him to death, and afterwards the hands of all the people. 10You shall stone him to death with stones, because he has sought to draw you away from Yahweh your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. 11All Israel shall hear, and fear, and shall not do any more wickedness like this in your midst. 12If you shall hear about one of your cities, which Yahweh your God gives you to dwell there, that 13certain base fellows have gone out from your midst, and have drawn away the inhabitants of their city, saying, “Let us go and serve other gods,” which you have not known; 14then you shall inquire, and make search, and ask diligently. Behold, if it is true, and the thing certain, that such abomination was done in your midst, 15you shall surely strike the inhabitants of that city with the edge of the sword, destroying it utterly, with all that is therein and its livestock, with the edge of the sword. 16You shall gather all its plunder into the midst of its street, and shall burn with fire the city, and all every bit of its plunder, to Yahweh your God. It shall be a heap forever. It shall not be built again. 17Nothing of the devoted thing shall cling to your hand, that Yahweh may turn from the fierceness of his anger, and show you mercy, and have compassion on you, and multiply you, as he has sworn to your fathers; 18when you listen to Yahweh your God’s voice, to keep all his commandments which I command you this day, to do that which is right in Yahweh your God’s eyes.
1Wanneer een profeet, of dromen-dromer, in het midden van u zal opstaan, en u geven een teken of wonder; 2En dat teken of dat wonder komt, dat hij tot u gesproken had, zeggende: Laat ons andere goden, die gij niet gekend hebt, navolgen en hen dienen; 3Gij zult naar de woorden van dien profeet, of naar dien dromen-dromer niet horen; want de HEERE, uw God, verzoekt ulieden, om te weten, of gij den HEERE, uw God, liefhebt met uw ganse hart en met uw ganse ziel. 4Den HEERE, uw God, zult gij navolgen, en Hem vrezen, en Zijn geboden zult gij houden, en Zijn stem gehoorzaam zijn, en Hem dienen, en Hem aanhangen. 5En diezelve profeet, of dromen-dromer, zal gedood worden; want hij heeft tot een afval gesproken tegen den HEERE, uw God, Die ulieden uit Egypteland heeft uitgevoerd, en u uit het diensthuis verlost; om u af te drijven van den weg, dien u de HEERE, uw God, geboden heeft, om daarin te wandelen. Zo zult gij het boze uit het midden van u wegdoen. 6Wanneer uw broeder, de zoon uwer moeder, of uw zoon, of uw dochter, of de vrouw van uw schoot, of uw vriend, die als uw ziel is, u zal aanporren in het heimelijke, zeggende: Laat ons gaan, en dienen andere goden, die gij niet gekend hebt, gij noch uw vaderen; 7Van de goden der volken, die rondom u zijn, nabij u, of verre van u, van het ene einde der aarde tot aan het andere einde der aarde; 8Zo zult gij hem niet ter wille zijn, en naar hem niet horen; ook zal uw oog hem niet verschonen, en gij zult u niet ontfermen, noch hem verbergen; 9Maar gij zult hem zekerlijk doodslaan; uw hand zal eerst tegen hem zijn, om hem te doden, en daarna de hand des gansen volks. 10En gij zult hem met stenen stenigen, dat hij sterve; want hij heeft u gezocht af te drijven van den HEERE, uw God, Die u uit Egypteland, uit het diensthuis, uitgevoerd heeft. 11Opdat gans Israel het hore en vreze, en niet voortvare te doen naar dit boze stuk in het midden van u. 12Wanneer gij van een uwer steden, die de HEERE, uw God, u geeft, om aldaar te wonen, zult horen zeggen: 13Er zijn mannen, Belials-kinderen, uit het midden van u uitgegaan, en hebben de inwoners hunner stad aangedreven, zeggende: Laat ons gaan, en dienen andere goden, die gij niet gekend hebt; 14Zo zult gij onderzoeken, en naspeuren, en wel navragen; en ziet, het is de waarheid, de zaak is zeker, zulk een gruwel is in het midden van u gedaan; 15Zo zult gij de inwoners derzelver stad ganselijk slaan met de scherpte des zwaards, verbannende haar, en alles, wat daarin is, ook haar beesten, met de scherpte des zwaards. 16En al haar roof zult gij verzamelen in het midden van haar straat, en den HEERE, uw God, die stad en al haar roof ganselijk met vuur verbranden; en zij zal een hoop zijn eeuwiglijk, zij zal niet weder gebouwd worden. 17Ook zal er niets van het verbannene aan uw hand kleven, opdat de HEERE Zich wende van de hitte Zijns toorns, en u geve barmhartigheid, en Zich uwer erbarme, en u vermenigvuldige, gelijk als Hij uw vaderen gezworen heeft; 18Wanneer gij de stem des HEEREN, uws Gods, zult gehoorzaam zijn, om te houden al Zijn geboden, die ik u heden gebiede, om te doen wat recht is in de ogen des HEEREN, uws Gods.
