1La parole de l’Éternel me fut adressée, en ces mots : 2Fils de l’homme, propose une énigme, dis une parabole à la maison d’Israël ! 3Tu diras : Ainsi parle le Seigneur, l’Éternel : Un grand aigle, aux longues ailes, aux ailes déployées, couvert de plumes de toutes couleurs, vint sur le Liban, et enleva la cime d’un cèdre. 4Il arracha le plus élevé de ses rameaux, l’emporta dans un pays de commerce, et le déposa dans une ville de marchands. 5Et il prit un rejeton du pays, et le plaça dans un sol fertile ; il le mit près d’une eau abondante, et le planta comme un saule. 6Ce rejeton poussa, et devint un cep de vigne étendu, mais de peu d’élévation ; ses rameaux étaient tournés vers l’aigle, et ses racines étaient sous lui ; il devint un cep de vigne, donna des jets, et produisit des branches. 7Il y avait un autre aigle, grand, aux longues ailes, au plumage épais. Et voici, du parterre où elle était plantée, cette vigne étendit avec avidité ses racines de son côté et dirigea ses rameaux vers lui, afin qu’il l’arrosât. 8Elle était plantée dans un bon terrain, près d’une eau abondante, de manière à produire des branches et à porter du fruit, à devenir une vigne magnifique. 9Dis : Ainsi parle le Seigneur, l’Éternel : Prospérera-t-elle ? Le premier aigle n’arrachera-t-il pas ses racines, n’enlèvera-t-il pas son fruit, afin qu’elle se dessèche, afin que toutes les feuilles qu’elle a poussées se dessèchent ? Et il ne faudra ni beaucoup de force ni un peuple nombreux pour la séparer de ses racines. 10Voici, elle est plantée : prospérera-t-elle ? Si le vent d’orient la touche, ne séchera-t-elle pas ? Elle séchera sur le parterre où elle a poussé. 11La parole de l’Éternel me fut adressée, en ces mots : 12Dis à la maison rebelle : Ne savez-vous pas ce que cela signifie ? Dis : Voici, le roi de Babylone est allé à Jérusalem, il en a pris le roi et les chefs, et les a emmenés avec lui à Babylone. 13Il a choisi un membre de la race royale, a traité alliance avec lui, et lui a fait prêter serment, et il a emmené les grands du pays, 14afin que le royaume fût tenu dans l’abaissement, sans pouvoir s’élever, et qu’il gardât son alliance en y demeurant fidèle. 15Mais il s’est révolté contre lui, en envoyant ses messagers en Égypte, pour qu’elle lui donnât des chevaux et un grand nombre d’hommes. Celui qui a fait de telles choses réussira-t-il, échappera-t-il ? Il a rompu l’alliance, et il échapperait ! 16Je suis vivant ! dit le Seigneur, l’Éternel, c’est dans le pays du roi qui l’a fait régner, envers qui il a violé son serment et dont il a rompu l’alliance, c’est près de lui, au milieu de Babylone, qu’il mourra. 17Pharaon n’ira pas avec une grande armée et un peuple nombreux le secourir pendant la guerre, lorsqu’on élèvera des terrasses et qu’on fera des retranchements pour exterminer une multitude d’âmes. 18Il a méprisé le serment, il a rompu l’alliance ; il avait donné sa main, et il a fait tout cela ; il n’échappera pas ! 19C’est pourquoi ainsi parle le Seigneur, l’Éternel : Je suis vivant ! c’est le serment fait en mon nom qu’il a méprisé, c’est mon alliance qu’il a rompue. Je ferai retomber cela sur sa tête. 20J’étendrai mon rets sur lui, et il sera pris dans mon filet ; je l’emmènerai à Babylone, et là je plaiderai avec lui sur sa perfidie à mon égard. 21Tous les fuyards de toutes ses troupes tomberont par l’épée, et ceux qui resteront seront dispersés à tous les vents. Et vous saurez que moi, l’Éternel, j’ai parlé. 22Ainsi parle le Seigneur, l’Éternel : J’enlèverai, moi, la cime d’un grand cèdre, et je la placerai ; j’arracherai du sommet de ses branches un tendre rameau, et je le planterai sur une montagne haute et élevée. 23Je le planterai sur une haute montagne d’Israël ; il produira des branches et portera du fruit, il deviendra un cèdre magnifique. Les oiseaux de toute espèce reposeront sous lui, tout ce qui a des ailes reposera sous l’ombre de ses rameaux. 24Et tous les arbres des champs sauront que moi, l’Éternel, j’ai abaissé l’arbre qui s’élevait et élevé l’arbre qui était abaissé, que j’ai desséché l’arbre vert et fait verdir l’arbre sec. Moi, l’Éternel, j’ai parlé, et j’agirai.
1Yahweh’s word came to me, saying, 2Son of man, tell a riddle, and speak a parable to the house of Israel; 3and say, Thus says the Lord Yahweh: A great eagle with great wings and long feathers, full of feathers, which had various colors, came to Lebanon, and took the top of the cedar: 4he cropped off the topmost of the young twigs of it, and carried it to a land of traffic; he set it in a city of merchants. 5He took also of the seed of the land, and planted it in a fruitful soil; he placed it beside many waters; he set it as a willow tree. 6It grew, and became a spreading vine of low stature, whose branches turned toward him, and its roots were under him: so it became a vine, and produced branches, and shot out sprigs. 7There was also another great eagle with great wings and many feathers: and behold, this vine bent its roots toward him, and shot out its branches toward him, from the beds of its plantation, that he might water it. 8It was planted in a good soil by many waters, that it might produce branches, and that it might bear fruit, that it might be a goodly vine. 9Say, Thus says the Lord Yahweh: Shall it prosper? shall he not pull up its roots, and cut off its fruit, that it may wither; that all its fresh springing leaves may wither? and not by a strong arm or many people can it be raised from its roots. 10Yes, behold, being planted, shall it prosper? shall it not utterly wither, when the east wind touches it? it shall wither in the beds where it grew. 11Moreover Yahweh’s word came to me, saying, 12Say now to the rebellious house, Don’t you know what these things mean? tell them, Behold, the king of Babylon came to Jerusalem, and took its king, and its princes, and brought them to him to Babylon: 13and he took of the seed royal, and made a covenant with him; he also brought him under an oath, and took away the mighty of the land; 14that the kingdom might be base, that it might not lift itself up, but that by keeping his covenant it might stand. 15But he rebelled against him in sending his ambassadors into Egypt, that they might give him horses and many people. Shall he prosper? shall he escape who does such things? shall he break the covenant, and yet escape? 16As I live, says the Lord Yahweh, surely in the place where the king dwells who made him king, whose oath he despised, and whose covenant he broke, even with him in the midst of Babylon he shall die. 17Neither shall Pharaoh with his mighty army and great company help him in the war, when they cast up mounds and build forts, to cut off many persons. 18For he has despised the oath by breaking the covenant; and behold, he had given his hand, and yet has done all these things; he shall not escape. 19Therefore thus says the Lord Yahweh: As I live, surely my oath that he has despised, and my covenant that he has broken, I will even bring it on his own head. 20I will spread my net on him, and he shall be taken in my snare, and I will bring him to Babylon, and will enter into judgment with him there for his trespass that he has trespassed against me. 21All his fugitives in all his bands shall fall by the sword, and those who remain shall be scattered toward every wind: and you shall know that I, Yahweh, have spoken it. 22Thus says the Lord Yahweh: I will also take of the lofty top of the cedar, and will set it; I will crop off from the topmost of its young twigs a tender one, and I will plant it on a high and lofty mountain: 23in the mountain of the height of Israel will I plant it; and it shall produce boughs, and bear fruit, and be a goodly cedar: and under it shall dwell all birds of every wing; in the shade of its branches shall they dwell. 24All the trees of the field shall know that I, Yahweh, have brought down the high tree, have exalted the low tree, have dried up the green tree, and have made the dry tree to flourish; I, Yahweh, have spoken and have done it.
1En des HEEREN woord geschiedde tot mij, zeggende: 2Mensenkind, stel een raadsel voor, en gebruik een gelijkenis tot het huis Israels, 3En zeg: Alzo zegt de Heere HEERE: Een arend, die groot was, groot van vleugelen, lang van vlerken, vol van vederen, die verscheidene veren had, kwam op den Libanon, en nam den oppersten tak van een ceder. 4Hij plukte den top van zijn jonge takjes af, en bracht hem in een land van koophandel; hij zette hem in een stad van kooplieden. 5Hij nam ook van het zaad des lands, en legde het in een zaadakker; hij nam het, hij zette het bij vele wateren met grote voorzichtigheid. 6En het sproot uit, en werd tot een welig uitlopende wijnstok, doch nederig van stam, ziende met zijn takken naar hem, dewijl zijn wortelen onder hem waren. Zo werd hij tot een wijnstok, die ranken voortbracht en scheuten uitwierp. 7Nog was er een grote arend, groot van vleugelen en overvloedig van vederen; en ziet, deze wijnstok voegde zijn wortelen naar denzelven toe, en wierp zijn takken tot hem uit, opdat hij hem bevochtigen zou naar de bedden zijner planting toe. 8Hij was in een goede landouwe bij vele wateren geplant, om takken te maken en vrucht te dragen, opdat hij tot een heerlijken wijnstok worden mocht. 9Zeg: Alzo zegt de Heere HEERE: Zal hij gedijen? Zal hij niet zijn wortelen uitrukken, en zijn vrucht afsnijden, dat hij droog worde? Hij zal aan al de bladeren van zijn gewas verdrogen; en dat niet door een groten arm, noch door veel volks, om dien van zijn wortelen weg te voeren. 10Ja, ziet, zal hij geplant zijnde gedijen? Zal hij niet, als de oostenwind hem aanroert, gans verdrogen? Op de bedden van zijn gewas zal hij verdrogen. 11Daarna geschiedde des HEEREN woord tot mij, zeggende: 12Zeg nu tot dat wederspannig huis: Weet gij niet, wat deze dingen zijn? Zeg: Ziet, de koning van Babel is tot Jeruzalem gekomen, en heeft haar koning genomen, en haar vorsten, en heeft ze tot zich gevoerd naar Babel. 13Daartoe heeft hij van het koninklijk zaad genomen, en daarmede een verbond gemaakt, en heeft hem tot een eed gebracht, en de machtigen des lands heeft hij weggenomen; 14Opdat het koninkrijk nederig zou zijn, zich niet verheffende, en dat het, zijn verbond houdende, bestaan mocht. 15Maar hij rebelleerde tegen hem, zendende zijn boden in Egypte, opdat men hem paarden en veel volks bestellen zou; zal hij gedijen? Zal hij ontkomen, die zulke dingen doet? Ja, zal hij het verbond breken en ontkomen? 16Zo waarachtig als Ik leef, spreekt de Heere HEERE, zo hij niet in de plaats des konings, die hem koning gemaakt heeft, wiens eed hij veracht, en wiens verbond hij gebroken heeft, bij hem in het midden van Babel zal sterven! 17Ook zal Farao, door een groot heir en door menigte van krijgs vergadering, met hem in oorlog niets uitrichten als men een wal zal opwerpen, en als men sterkten bouwen zal, om vele zielen uit te roeien. 18Want hij heeft den eed veracht, brekende het verbond, daar hij, ziet, zijn hand gegeven had; dewijl hij al deze dingen gedaan heeft, zal hij niet ontkomen. 19Daarom, alzo zegt de Heere HEERE: Zo waarachtig als Ik leef, zo Ik Mijn eed, dien hij veracht heeft, en Mijn verbond, dat hij gebroken heeft, datzelve niet op zijn hoofd geve! 20En Ik zal Mijn net over hem uitspreiden, dat hij gegrepen zal worden in Mijn jachtgaren; en Ik zal daar met hem rechten over zijn overtreding, waardoor hij tegen Mij overtreden heeft. 21Daartoe zullen al zijn vluchtelingen met al zijn benden door het zwaard vallen, en de overgeblevenen zullen in alle winden verstrooid worden; en gijlieden zult weten, dat Ik, de HEERE, gesproken heb. 22Alzo zegt de Heere HEERE: Ik zal ook van den oppersten tak des hogen ceders nemen, dat Ik zetten zal; van het opperste zijner jonge takjes zal Ik een tederen afplukken, denwelken Ik op een hogen en verhevenen berg planten zal; 23Op den berg der hoogte van Israel zal Ik hem planten; en hij zal takken voortbrengen, en vrucht dragen, en hij zal tot een heerlijken ceder worden, dat onder hem wonen zal alle gevogelte van allerlei vleugel; in de schaduw zijner takken zullen zij wonen. 24Zo zullen alle bomen des velds weten, dat Ik, de HEERE, den hogen boom vernederd heb, den nederigen boom verdroogd, en den drogen boom bloeiende gemaakt heb; Ik, de HEERE, heb het gesproken, en zal het doen.
