1Bấy giờ các ngươi đầu đảng, Giô-ha-nan, con trai Ca-rê-át, Giê-xa-nia, con trai Hô-sa-gia, và cả dân sự kẻ nhỏ người lớn, 2đều đến nói cùng tiên tri Giê-rê-mi rằng: Xin nhậm lời chúng tôi nài xin, và cầu thay Giê-hô-va Ðức Chúa Trời ông cho chúng tôi, tức là những kẻ còn sót lại. Vả, chúng tôi trước vốn đông người, nay còn lại rất ít, như mắt ông có thấy. 3Xin Giê-hô-va Ðức Chúa Trời ông, chỉ cho chúng tôi đường phải theo và sự phải làm! 4Tiên tri Giê-rê-mi bèn đáp rằng: Ta nghe rồi. Nầy, ta sẽ cầu Giê-hô-va Ðức Chúa Trời các ngươi, theo lời các ngươi đã xin. Phàm điều chi Ðức Giê-hô-va trả lời, ta sẽ cho các ngươi biết, không giấu chút nào. 5Các người ấy nói cùng Giê-rê-mi rằng: Nếu chúng tôi không làm theo mọi lời Giê-hô-va Ðức Chúa Trời ông sẽ sai ông bảo cho chúng tôi, nguyền xin Ðức Giê-hô-va làm chứng trung tín thật thà giữa chúng ta! 6Không cứ điều lành hoặc điều dữ, chúng tôi sẽ vâng theo tiếng Giê-hô-va Ðức Chúa Trời chúng tôi, là Ðấng mà chúng tôi sai ông đến; để khi vâng lời Giê-hô-va Ðức Chúa Trời chúng tôi, thì chúng tôi sẽ được phước. 7Khỏi mười ngày, có lời Ðức Giê-hô-va phán cùng Giê-rê-mi. 8Người gọi Giô-ha-nan, con trai Ca-rê-át, hết thảy các đầu đảng và cả dân sự, kẻ nhỏ người lớn đều đến, 9mà nói cùng họ rằng: Giê-hô-va, Ðức Chúa Trời của Y-sơ-ra-ên, là Ðấng các ngươi đã sai ta đến để tỏ lời cầu xin trước mặt Ngài, phán như vầy: 10Nếu các ngươi cứ ở trong đất nầy, thì ta sẽ gây dựng cho mà không phá đi, vun trồng cho mà không nhổ đi; vì ta ăn năn về sự họa mà ta đã giáng cho các ngươi. 11Chớ sợ vua Ba-by-lôn, là người các ngươi đương sợ; Ðức Giê-hô-va phán, đừng sợ vua ấy, vì ta ở với các ngươi đặng cứu vớt và giải thoát các ngươi khỏi tay người. 12Ta sẽ thương xót các ngươi, hầu cho vua ấy cũng thương xót các ngươi, và cho các ngươi trở về trong đất mình. 13Nhưng nếu các ngươi nói rằng: Chúng tôi không khứng ở trong đất nầy; mà các ngươi không vâng theo tiếng Giê-hô-va Ðức Chúa Trời mình, 14mà nói rằng: Không, chúng tôi muốn đi trong đất Ê-díp-tô, là nơi chúng tôi sẽ không thấy giặc giã nữa, sẽ không nghe tiếng kèn nữa, tại đó chúng tôi sẽ không thiếu bánh; ấy là nơi chúng tôi sẽ đến ở, 15thì, hãy các ngươi, là dân Giu-đa còn sót kia, hãy nghe lời của Ðức Giê-hô-va. Ðức Giê-hô-va vạn quân, Ðức Chúa Trời của Y-sơ-ra-ên, phán như vầy: Khi các ngươi xây mặt vào Ê-díp-tô đặng trú ngụ ở đó, 16thì gươm dao mà các ngươi sợ hãi sẽ đuổi kịp các ngươi trong đất Ê-díp-tô; sự đói kém mà các ngươi kinh khiếp cũng sẽ đuổi theo các ngươi trong Ê-díp-tô, và các ngươi sẽ chết tại đó. 17Ấy vậy, phàm những kẻ xây mặt vào Ê-díp-tô đặng trú ngụ ở đó, thì sẽ chết bởi gươm dao, đói kém, và ôn dịch. Trong bọn họ, chẳng có ai sống sót lại; chẳng có ai thoát khỏi họa mà ta sẽ giáng cho. 18Thật thế, Ðức Giê-hô-va vạn quân, Ðức Chúa Trời của Y-sơ-ra-ên, phán như vầy: Như cơn giận và sự thạnh nộ của ta đã đổ ra cho dân cư Giê-ru-sa-lem thể nào, thì, khi các ngươi vào Ê-díp-tô, cơn giận của ta cũng sẽ đổ ra cho các ngươi thể ấy; tại đó các ngươi sẽ làm cớ cho người ta trù ẻo, gở lạ, rủa sả, và sỉ nhục; và các ngươi sẽ chẳng lại thấy chỗ nầy nữa. 19Hỡi các ngươi, là dân Giu-đa còn sót lại, Ðức Giê-hô-va đã phán về các ngươi rằng: Chớ qua nước Ê-díp-tô; hãy biết rõ rằng ngày nay ta đã đối chứng cho các ngươi. 20Vì chính các ngươi làm sự dối trá nghịch cùng linh hồn mình; các ngươi đã sai ta đến cùng Giê-hô-va Ðức Chúa Trời các ngươi, mà nói cùng ta rằng: Khá vì chúng tôi cầy tay nơi Giê-hô-va Ðức Chúa Trời chúng tôi, và cho chúng tôi biết mọi điều Giê-hô-va Ðức Chúa Trời chúng tôi sẽ nói cùng ông; thì chúng tôi sẽ làm theo. 21Vả, ngày nay ta đã bảo các ngươi rồi; nhưng các ngươi chẳng vâng theo tiếng Giê-hô-va Ðức Chúa Trời các ngươi trong điều nào mà Ngài cậy ta truyền cho các ngươi. 22Bấy giờ, hãy biết rõ rằng các ngươi sẽ chết bởi gươm dao, đói kém, ôn dịch, trong chỗ mà các ngươi muốn đến trú ngụ tại đó.
1Then all the captains of the forces, and Johanan the son of Kareah, and Jezaniah the son of Hoshaiah, and all the people from the least even to the greatest, came near, 2and said to Jeremiah the prophet, Please let our supplication be presented before you, and pray for us to Yahweh your God, even for all this remnant; for we are left but a few of many, as your eyes do see us: 3that Yahweh your God may show us the way in which we should walk, and the thing that we should do. 4Then Jeremiah the prophet said to them, I have heard you; behold, I will pray to Yahweh your God according to your words; and it shall happen that whatever thing Yahweh shall answer you, I will declare it to you; I will keep nothing back from you. 5Then they said to Jeremiah, Yahweh be a true and faithful witness among us, if we don’t do according to all the word with which Yahweh your God shall send you to us. 6Whether it be good, or whether it be evil, we will obey the voice of Yahweh our God, to whom we send you; that it may be well with us, when we obey the voice of Yahweh our God. 7After ten days, Yahweh’s word came to Jeremiah. 8Then called he Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the captains of the forces who were with him, and all the people from the least even to the greatest, 9and said to them, Thus says Yahweh, the God of Israel, to whom you sent me to present your supplication before him: 10If you will still live in this land, then I will build you, and not pull you down, and I will plant you, and not pluck you up; for I grieve over the distress that I have brought on you. 11Don’t be afraid of the king of Babylon, of whom you are afraid; don’t be afraid of him, says Yahweh: for I am with you to save you, and to deliver you from his hand. 12I will grant you mercy, that he may have mercy on you, and cause you to return to your own land. 13But if you say, We will not dwell in this land; so that you don’t obey Yahweh your God’s voice, 14saying, No; but we will go into the land of Egypt, where we shall see no war, nor hear the sound of the trumpet, nor have hunger of bread; and there will we dwell: 15now therefore hear Yahweh’s word, O remnant of Judah: Thus says Yahweh of Armies, the God of Israel, If you indeed set your faces to enter into Egypt, and go to live there; 16then it shall happen, that the sword, which you fear, shall overtake you there in the land of Egypt; and the famine, about which you are afraid, shall follow close behind you there in Egypt; and there you shall die. 17So shall it be with all the men who set their faces to go into Egypt to live there: they shall die by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence; and none of them shall remain or escape from the evil that I will bring on them. 18For thus says Yahweh of Armies, the God of Israel: As my anger and my wrath has been poured out on the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so shall my wrath be poured out on you, when you shall enter into Egypt; and you shall be an object of horror, and an astonishment, and a curse, and a reproach; and you shall see this place no more. 19Yahweh has spoken concerning you, remnant of Judah, Don’t you go into Egypt: know certainly that I have testified to you this day. 20For you have dealt deceitfully against your own souls; for you sent me to Yahweh your God, saying, Pray for us to Yahweh our God; and according to all that Yahweh our God shall say, so declare to us, and we will do it: 21and I have this day declared it to you; but you have not obeyed Yahweh your God’s voice in anything for which he has sent me to you. 22Now therefore know certainly that you shall die by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence, in the place where you desire to go to live there.
1Toen traden toe alle oversten der heiren, Johanan, de zoon van Kareah, en Jezanja, de zoon van Hosaja, en al het volk, van den kleinste tot den grootste toe; 2En zij zeiden tot den profeet Jeremia: Laat toch onze smeking voor uw aangezicht nedervallen, en bid voor ons tot den HEERE, uw God, voor dit ganse overblijfsel; want wij zijn weinigen van velen overgelaten, gelijk als uw ogen ons zien; 3Dat ons de HEERE, uw God, bekend make den weg, dien wij zullen ingaan, en de zaak, die wij zullen doen. 4En de profeet Jeremia zeide tot hen: Ik heb het gehoord; ziet, ik zal tot den HEERE, uw God, bidden naar uw woorden; en het zal geschieden, het ganse woord, dat de HEERE u zal antwoorden, zal ik u bekend maken, ik zal u niet een woord onthouden. 5Toen zeiden zij tot Jeremia: De HEERE zij tussen ons tot een waarachtig en gewis Getuige: indien wij niet naar alle woord, met hetwelk u de HEERE, uw God, tot ons zal zenden, alzo zullen doen! 6Hetzij dan goed of kwaad, wij zullen der stem des HEEREN, onzes Gods, tot Welken wij u zenden, gehoorzaam zijn; opdat het ons welga, wanneer wij der stem des HEEREN, onzes Gods, zullen gehoorzaam zijn. 7En het gebeurde ten einde van tien dagen, dat des HEEREN woord tot Jeremia geschiedde. 8Toen riep hij Johanan, den zoon van Kareah, en alle oversten der heiren, die met hem waren, en al het volk, van den kleinste af tot den grootste toe; 9En hij zeide tot hen: Zo zegt de HEERE, de God Israels, tot Welken gij mij gezonden hebt, om uw smeking voor Zijn aangezicht neder te werpen: 10Indien gijlieden in dit land zult blijven wonen, zo zal Ik u bouwen en niet afbreken, en u planten en niet uitrukken; want Ik heb berouw over het kwaad, dat Ik u aangedaan heb. 11Vreest niet voor het aangezicht des konings van Babel, voor wiens aangezicht gij vreest; vreest niet voor hem, spreekt de HEERE; want Ik zal met u zijn, om u te behouden en u van zijn hand te redden. 12En Ik zal ulieden barmhartigheid geven, dat hij zich uwer erbarme, en u weder in uw land brenge. 13Maar zo gijlieden zult zeggen: Wij zullen in dit land niet blijven; opdat gij der stem des HEEREN, uws Gods, niet gehoorzaam zijt, 14Zeggende: Neen, maar wij zullen gaan in Egypteland, alwaar wij geen krijg zullen zien, noch het geluid der bazuin horen, noch naar brood hongeren, en daar zullen wij blijven; 15Nu dan, daarom hoort des HEEREN woord, gij overblijfsel van Juda! Zo zegt de HEERE der heirscharen, de God Israels: Indien gij ganselijk uw aangezichten zult stellen om in Egypte te gaan, en zult henen ingaan, om aldaar als vreemdelingen te verkeren; 16Zo zal het geschieden, dat het zwaard, waar gij voor vreest, u aldaar in Egypteland zal achterhalen; en de honger, waar gij voor zorgt, zal u aldaar in Egypte achter aankleven, en gij zult aldaar sterven. 17Zo zullen al de mannen zijn, die hun aangezichten stellen, om in Egypte te gaan, om aldaar als vreemdelingen te verkeren; zij zullen sterven door het zwaard, door den honger en door de pestilentie; en zij zullen niemand hebben, die overblijve of ontkome van het kwaad, dat Ik over hen zal brengen. 18Want zo zegt de HEERE der heirscharen, de God Israels: Gelijk als Mijn toorn, en Mijn grimmigheid is uitgestort over de inwoners van Jeruzalem, alzo zal Mijn grimmigheid over ulieden uitgestort worden, als gij in Egypte zult gekomen zijn; en gij zult wezen tot een vervloeking, en tot een ontzetting, en tot een vloek, en tot smaadheid, en zult deze plaats niet meer zien. 19De HEERE heeft tegen ulieden gesproken, gij overblijfsel van Juda! Gaat niet in Egypte; weet zekerlijk, dat ik heden tegen u betuigd heb. 20Gewisselijk, gij hebt uw zielen verleid; want gij hebt mij tot den HEERE, uw God, gezonden, zeggende: Bid voor ons tot den HEERE, onzen God, en naar alles, wat de HEERE, onze God, zal zeggen, alzo maak het ons bekend, en wij zullen het doen. 21Nu heb ik het u heden bekend gemaakt; maar gij hebt niet gehoord naar de stem des HEEREN, uws Gods, noch naar al hetgeen, met hetwelk Hij mij tot u gezonden heeft. 22Zo weet nu zekerlijk, dat gij door het zwaard, door den honger en door de pestilentie sterven zult, ter plaatse, waar het u gelust heeft henen te gaan, om aldaar als vreemdelingen te verkeren.
