1Ðức Giê-hô-va phán: Hỡi Y-sơ-ra-ên, nếu ngươi trở về cùng ta, nếu trở về cùng ta, và nếu ngươi bỏ những việc gớm ghiếc khỏi trước mắt ta, thì ngươi sẽ chẳng bị dời đi nữa. 2Ngươi sẽ lấy sự thật thà, ngay thẳng, công bình, mà thề rằng: Thật như Ðức Giê-hô-va hằng sống, các nước sẽ được phước bởi Ngài và vinh hiển trong Ngài. 3Vả, Ðức Giê-hô-va phán cùng người Giu-đa và cùng Giê-ru-sa-lem như vầy: Hãy cày mở ruộng mới các ngươi, chớ gieo trong gai gốc. 4Hỡi các ngươi, là người Giu-đa và dân cư Giê-ru-sa-lem, hãy tự cắt bì mình cho Ðức Giê-hô-va, và cất dương bì khỏi lòng ngươi! Bằng chẳng vậy, cơn giận ta sẽ phừng lên như lửa, đốt cháy các ngươi, không ai giập tắt được, vì việc ác các ngươi đã làm. 5Hãy rao ra trong Giu-đa; hãy truyền trong Giê-ru-sa-lem rằng: Hãy thổi kèn trong đất. Hãy kêu lớn tiếng rằng: Khá nhóm nhau lại và đi vào các thành bền vững. 6Khá dựng cờ hướng về Si-ôn! Hãy trốn đi, đừng dừng lại! Vì ta khiến từ phương bắc đến một tai nạn, tức là một sự hư hại lớn. 7Sư tử ra từ rừng nó, kẻ hủy diệt các nước bắt đầu ra đi khỏi chỗ mình, đặng làm cho đất ngươi ra hoang vu; các thành ngươi trở nên gò đống, và không có người ở. 8Vậy nên, các ngươi hãy thắt bao gai, khóc và than thở, vì cơn giận phừng phừng của Ðức Giê-hô-va chưa lìa khỏi chúng ta đâu. 9Ðức Giê-hô-va phán trong những ngày đó, vua và các quan trưởng sửng sốt trong lòng; các thầy tế lễ bỡ ngỡ, các kẻ tiên tri lấy làm lạ. 10Bấy giờ tôi nói: Ôi! hỡi Chúa Giê-hô-va! Thật Ngài đã phỉnh dân nầy và Giê-ru-sa-lem lắm, mà nói rằng: Các ngươi sẽ được bình an! Những lưỡi gươm đã thấu đến sự sống. 11Trong thời đó, sẽ nói cùng dân nầy và Giê-ru-sa-lem rằng: Gió nóng đến từ các gò trọi nơi đồng vắng, thổi trên con gái dân ta, nhưng chẳng dùng để dê lúa được, và cũng chẳng làm cho sạch được. 12Lại có gió lớn hơn nữa vì ta mà đến. Nay ta sẽ rao sự đoán xét nghịch cùng chúng nó. 13Nầy, nó sẽ lên như một đám mây, xe cộ nó dường cơn gió lốc, ngựa nó lẹ như chim ưng. Khốn cho chúng ta, vì bị hủy diệt! 14Hỡi Giê-ru-sa-lem, hãy làm sạch hết điều ác trong lòng ngươi, hầu cho ngươi được cứu. Ngươi nuôi những ý tưởng gian ác trong lòng cho đến chừng nào? 15Vì có tiếng đến từ đất Ðan, từ gò Ép-ra-im rao truyền tai vạ. 16Hãy báo cho các nước! Hãy rao cho Giê-ru-sa-lem rằng: Kẻ vây hãm từ phương xa mà đến, và kêu la nghịch cùng các thành Giu-đa. 17Chúng nó vây Giê-ru-sa-lem như kẻ giữ ruộng; vì thành ấy đã nổi loạn nghịch cùng ta, Ðức Giê-hô-va phán vậy. 18Ðó là những sự mà đường lối và việc làm của ngươi đã chuốc lấy cho ngươi; đó là sự gian ác ngươi! Thật, sự ấy là cay đắng, thấu đến trong lòng ngươi. 19Ôi! tôi đau lòng, đau lòng! Cơn đau đớn quặn thắt lòng tôi; lòng đương bối rối trong tôi. Tôi không thể làm thinh! Hỡi linh hồn tôi, vì mầy nghe dọng kèn và tiếng giặc giã. 20Hủy diệt cùng thêm hủy diệt, báo tin chẳng dứt, cả đất bị phá tán; nhà tạm tôi thình lình bị hủy, màn cháng tôi bỗng chốc bị hư! 21Tôi sẽ thấy cờ và nghe tiếng kèn cho đến chừng nào? 22Thật dân ta là ngu muội, chúng nó chẳng nhìn biết ta. Ấy là những con cái khờ dại, không có trí khôn, khéo làm điều ác, mà không biết làm điều thiện. 23Tôi xem đất: nầy, là vô hình và trống không; xem các từng trời: thì không có sự sáng. 24Tôi xem các núi, thấy đều rúng động; mọi gò đều lung-lay. 25Tôi xem: chẳng còn một người, hết thảy chim trời đều trốn tránh. 26Tôi xem thấy ruộng tốt đã trở nên đồng vắng, hết thảy các thành đều bị hủy phá trước mặt Ðức Giê-hô-va, bởi cơn nóng giận của Ngài. 27Vì Ðức Giê-hô-va phán như vầy: Cả đất sẽ hoang vu, nhưng ta không diệt hết. 28Bởi cớ đó, đất sẽ sầu thảm, các từng trời sẽ tối đen. Vì ta đã phán, đã định, thì chẳng đổi ý, chẳng xây lại. 29Nghe tiếng ồn lính kỵ và lính bắn cung, thì hết thảy các thành đều chạy trốn; núp trong rừng cây, leo lên vầng đá; các thành đều bị bỏ, chẳng có người ở. 30Còn ngươi, khi đã bị phá hủy, thì sẽ làm gì? Ngươi dầu có mặc áo màu tím, trang sức đồ vàng, lấy mực vẽ mắt, làm cho mình ra đẹp, cũng là vô ích: người yêu ngươi cũng khinh ngươi, mà đòi sự sống của ngươi. 31Vì ta nghe tiếng, như tiếng đờn bà đẻ, tiếng thảm thương như tiếng đờn bà đẻ con so. Ấy là tiếng con gái Si-ôn, thở và giang tay mà rằng: Khốn nạn cho tôi! linh hồn tôi đã ngất đi trước mặt kẻ giết người!
1“If you will return, Israel,” says Yahweh, “if you will return to me, and if you will put away your abominations out of my sight; then you shall not be removed; 2and you shall swear, ‘As Yahweh lives,’ in truth, in justice, and in righteousness. The nations shall bless themselves in him, and in him shall they glory.” 3For thus says Yahweh to the men of Judah and to Jerusalem, “Break up your fallow ground, and don’t sow among thorns. 4Circumcise yourselves to Yahweh, and take away the foreskins of your heart, you men of Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem; lest my wrath go out like fire, and burn so that no one can quench it, because of the evil of your doings. 5Declare in Judah, and publish in Jerusalem; and say, ‘Blow the trumpet in the land!’ Cry aloud and say, ‘Assemble yourselves! Let us go into the fortified cities!’ 6Set up a standard toward Zion. Flee for safety! Don’t wait; for I will bring evil from the north, and a great destruction.” 7A lion has gone up from his thicket, and a destroyer of nations; he is on his way, he has gone out from his place, to make your land desolate, that your cities be laid waste, without inhabitant. 8For this clothe yourself with sackcloth, lament and wail; for the fierce anger of Yahweh hasn’t turned back from us. 9“It shall happen at that day,” says Yahweh, “that the heart of the king shall perish, and the heart of the princes; and the priests shall be astonished, and the prophets shall wonder.” 10Then I said, “Ah, Lord Yahweh! Surely you have greatly deceived this people and Jerusalem, saying, ‘You shall have peace;’ whereas the sword reaches to the heart.” 11At that time shall it be said to this people and to Jerusalem, “A hot wind from the bare heights in the wilderness toward the daughter of my people, not to winnow, nor to cleanse; 12a full wind from these shall come for me. Now I will also utter judgments against them.” 13Behold, he shall come up as clouds, and his chariots shall be as the whirlwind: his horses are swifter than eagles. Woe to us! For we are ruined. 14Jerusalem, wash your heart from wickedness, that you may be saved. How long shall your evil thoughts lodge within you? 15For a voice declares from Dan, and publishes evil from the hills of Ephraim: 16“Tell the nations; behold, publish against Jerusalem, ‘Watchers come from a far country, and raise their voice against the cities of Judah. 17As keepers of a field, they are against her all around, because she has been rebellious against me,’” says Yahweh. 18“Your way and your doings have brought these things to you. This is your wickedness; for it is bitter, for it reaches to your heart.” 19My anguish, my anguish! I am pained at my very heart; my heart is disquieted in me; I can’t hold my peace; because you have heard, O my soul, the sound of the trumpet, the alarm of war. 20Destruction on destruction is cried; for the whole land is laid waste: suddenly are my tents destroyed, and my curtains in a moment. 21How long shall I see the standard, and hear the sound of the trumpet? 22“For my people are foolish, they don’t know me. They are foolish children, and they have no understanding. They are skillful in doing evil, but to do good they have no knowledge.” 23I saw the earth, and, behold, it was waste and void; and the heavens, and they had no light. 24I saw the mountains, and behold, they trembled, and all the hills moved back and forth. 25I saw, and behold, there was no man, and all the birds of the sky had fled. 26I saw, and behold, the fruitful field was a wilderness, and all its cities were broken down at the presence of Yahweh, before his fierce anger. 27For thus says Yahweh, “The whole land shall be a desolation; yet will I not make a full end. 28For this the earth will mourn, and the heavens above be black; because I have spoken it, I have purposed it, and I have not repented, neither will I turn back from it.” 29Every city flees for the noise of the horsemen and archers; they go into the thickets, and climb up on the rocks: every city is forsaken, and not a man dwells therein. 30You, when you are made desolate, what will you do? Though you clothe yourself with scarlet, though you deck you with ornaments of gold, though you enlarge your eyes with paint, in vain do you make yourself beautiful; your lovers despise you, they seek your life. 31For I have heard a voice as of a woman in travail, the anguish as of her who gives birth to her first child, the voice of the daughter of Zion, who gasps for breath, who spreads her hands, saying, “Woe is me now! For my soul faints before the murderers.”
1Zo gij u bekeren zult, Israel! spreekt de HEERE, bekeer u tot Mij; en zo gij uw verfoeiselen van Mijn aangezicht zult wegdoen, zo zwerft niet om. 2Maar zweer: Zo waarachtig als de HEERE leeft! in waarheid, in recht en in gerechtigheid; zo zullen zich de heidenen in Hem zegenen, en zich in Hem beroemen. 3Want zo zegt de HEERE tot de mannen van Juda, en tot Jeruzalem: Braakt ulieden een braakland, en zaait niet onder de doornen. 4Besnijdt u den HEERE en doet weg de voorhuiden uwer harten, gij mannen van Juda en inwoners van Jeruzalem! opdat Mijner grimmigheid niet uitvare als een vuur, en brande, dat niemand blussen kunne, vanwege de boosheid uwer handelingen. 5Verkondigt in Juda, en laat het horen te Jeruzalem, en zegt het; ja, blaast de bazuin in het land; roept met volle stem en zegt: Verzamelt ulieden, en laat ons ingaan in de vaste steden! 6Werpt de banier op naar Sion, vlucht met hopen, blijft niet staan! want Ik breng een kwaad aan van het noorden, en een grote breuk. 7De leeuw is opgekomen uit zijn haag, en de verderver der heidenen is opgetrokken, hij is uitgegaan uit zijn plaats, om uw land te stellen in verwoestingen; uw steden zullen verstoord worden, dat er niemand in wone. 8Hierom, gordt zakken aan, bedrijft misbaar en huilt; want de hittigheid van des HEEREN toorn is niet van ons afgekeerd. 9En het zal te dier tijd geschieden, spreekt de HEERE, dat het hart des konings en het hart der vorsten vergaan zal; en de priesters zullen zich ontzetten, en de profeten zich verwonderen. 10Toen zeide ik: Ach, Heere HEERE! waarlijk, Gij hebt dit volk en Jeruzalem grotelijks bedrogen, zeggende: Gijlieden zult vrede hebben; daar het zwaard tot aan de ziel raakt. 11Te dier tijd zal tot dit volk en tot Jeruzalem gezegd worden: Een dorre wind van de hoge plaatsen in de woestijn, van den weg der dochter Mijns volks; niet om te wannen, noch om te zuiveren. 12Er zal Mij een wind komen, die hun te sterk zal zijn. Nu zal Ik ook oordelen tegen hen uitspreken. 13Ziet, hij komt op als wolken, en zijn wagenen zijn als een wervelwind, zijn paarden zijn sneller dan arenden; wee ons, want wij zijn verwoest! 14Was uw hart van boosheid, o Jeruzalem! opdat gij behouden wordt; hoe lang zult gij de gedachten uwer ijdelheid in het binnenste van u laten vernachten? 15Want een stem verkondigt van Dan af, en doet ellende horen van het gebergte van Efraim. 16Vermeldt den volke, ziet, doet het horen tegen Jeruzalem; daar komen hoeders uit verren lande; en zij verheffen hun stem tegen de steden van Juda. 17Als de wachters der velden zijn zij rondom tegen haar; omdat zij tegen Mij wederspannig geweest is, spreekt de HEERE. 18Uw weg en uw handelingen hebben u deze dingen gedaan; dit is uw boosheid, dat het zo bitter is, dat het tot aan uw hart raakt. 19O mijn ingewand, mijn ingewand! ik heb barenswee, o wanden mijns harten! mijn hart maakt getier in mij, ik kan niet zwijgen; want gij, mijn ziel! hoort het geluid der bazuin en het krijgsgeschrei. 20Breuk op breuk wordt er uitgeroepen; want het ganse land is verstoord; haastelijk zijn mijn tenten verstoord, mijn gordijnen in een ogenblik! 21Hoe lang zal ik de banier zien, het geluid der bazuin horen? 22Zekerlijk, Mijn volk is dwaas, Mij kennen zij niet; het zijn zotte kinderen, en zij zijn niet verstandig; wijs zijn zij om kwaad te doen, maar goed te doen weten zij niet. 23Ik zag het land aan, en ziet, het was woest en ledig; ook naar den hemel, en zijn licht was er niet. 24Ik zag de bergen aan, en ziet, zij beefden; en al de heuvelen schudden. 25Ik zag, en ziet, er was geen mens; en alle vogelen des hemels waren weggevlogen. 26Ik zag, en ziet, het vruchtbare land was een woestijn, en al zijn steden waren afgebroken, vanwege den HEERE, vanwege de hittigheid Zijns toorns. 27Want zo zegt de HEERE: Dit ganse land zal een woestijn zijn (doch Ik zal geen voleinding maken); 28Hierom zal de aarde treuren, en de hemel daarboven zwart zijn; omdat Ik het heb gesproken, Ik heb het voorgenomen en het zal Mij niet rouwen, en Ik zal Mij daarvan niet afkeren. 29Van het geroep der ruiteren en boogschutters vluchten al de steden; zij gaan in de wolken, en klimmen op de rotsen; al de steden zijn verlaten, zodat niemand in dezelve woont. 30Wat zult gij dan doen, gij verwoeste? Al kleeddet gij u met scharlaken, al versierdet gij u met gouden sieraad, al schuurdet gij uw ogen met blanketsel, zo zoudt gij u toch tevergeefs oppronken; de boelen versmaden u, zij zullen uw ziel zoeken. 31Want ik hoor een stem als van een vrouw, die in arbeid is, een benauwdheid als van een, die in des eersten kinds nood is, de stem van de dochter Sions; zij hijgt, zij breidt haar handen uit, zeggende: O, wee mij nu, want mijn ziel is moede vanwege de doodslagers!
