1Lời của Giê-rê-mi, con trai Hinh-kia, một trong các thầy tế lễ ở A-na-tốt, xứ Bên-gia-min. 2Có lời Ðức Giê-hô-va phán cùng người trong đời Giô-si-a, con trai A-môn, vua Giu-đa, năm thứ mười ba đời vua ấy; 3lại có phán cùng người trong đời Giê-hô-gia-kim, con trai Giô-si-a, vua Giu-đa, cho đến cuối năm thứ mười một đời vua Sê-đê-kia, con trai Giô-si-a, vua Giu-đa, tức là năm mà Giê-ru-sa-lem bị bắt làm phu tù trong tháng thứ năm. 4Có lời Ðức Giê-hô-va phán cùng tôi như vầy: Trước khi tạo nên ngươi trong lòng mẹ, ta đã biết ngươi rồi; 5trước khi ngươi sanh ra, ta đã biệt riêng ngươi, lập ngươi làm kẻ tiên tri cho các nước. 6Tôi thưa rằng: Ôi! hãy Chúa Giê-hô-va, nầy tôi chẳng biết nói chi, vì tôi là con trẻ. 7Nhưng Ðức Giê-hô-va lại phán: Chớ nói: Tôi là con trẻ; vì ngươi sẽ đi khắp nơi nào ta sai ngươi đi, và sẽ nói mọi điều ta truyền cho nói. 8Ðừng sợ vì cớ chúng nó; vì ta ở với ngươi đặng giải cứu ngươi, Ðức Giê-hô-va phán vậy. 9Ðoạn, Ðức Giê-hô-va giang tay rờ miệng tôi. Ðức Giê-hô-va lại phán cùng tôi rằng: Nầy, ta đã đặt những lời ta trong miệng ngươi. 10Hãy xem, ngày nay ta đã lập ngươi trên các dân các nước, đặng ngươi hoặc nhổ, hoặc phá, hoặc diệt, hoặc đổ, hoặc dựng, hoặc trồng. 11Lại có lời Ðức Giê-hô-va phán cùng tôi rằng: Hỡi Giê-rê-mi, ngươi thấy gì? Tôi thưa rằng: Tôi thấy một gậy bằng cây hạnh. 12Ðức Giê-hô-va bèn phán: Ngươi thấy phải đó; ta sẽ tỉnh thức, giữ lời phán ta đặng làm trọn. 13Lại có lời Ðức Giê-hô-va phán cùng tôi lần thứ hai mà rằng: Ngươi thấy gì? Tôi thưa: Tôi thấy một nồi nước sôi từ phương bắc bắn ra. 14Ðức Giê-hô-va phán: Ấy là hoạn nạn từ phương bắc sẽ giáng cho hết thảy dân cư đất nầy. 15Vậy, ta sẽ gọi mọi họ hàng của các nước phương bắc, Ðức Giê-hô-va phán vậy, Chúng nó sẽ được, và ai nấy đặt ngôi mình nơi cửa thành Giê-ru-sa-lem, vây đánh các vách thành ấy, và các thành của Giu-đa. 16Ta sẽ rao sự xét đoán ta nghịch cùng chúng nó, vì điều ác chúng nó đã làm; bởi chưng chúng nó đã lìa bỏ ta, đốt hương cho các thần khác, và thờ lạy việc tay mình làm ra. 17Vậy, ngươi hãy thắt lưng, chờ dậy, bảo cho chúng nó mọi sự mà ta truyền cho ngươi. 1The words of Jeremiah the son of Hilkiah, of the priests who were in Anathoth in the land of Benjamin: 2to whom Yahweh’s word came in the days of Josiah the son of Amon, king of Judah, in the thirteenth year of his reign. 3It came also in the days of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah, to the end of the eleventh year of Zedekiah, the son of Josiah, king of Judah, to the carrying away of Jerusalem captive in the fifth month. 4Now Yahweh’s word came to me, saying, 5“Before I formed you in the belly, I knew you. Before you came out of the womb, I sanctified you. I have appointed you a prophet to the nations.” 6Then I said, “Ah, Lord Yahweh! Behold, I don’t know how to speak; for I am a child.” 7But Yahweh said to me, “Don’t say, ‘I am a child;’ for to whoever I shall send you, you shall go, and whatever I shall command you, you shall speak. 8Don’t be afraid because of them; for I am with you to deliver you,” says Yahweh. 9Then Yahweh stretched out his hand, and touched my mouth; and Yahweh said to me, “Behold, I have put my words in your mouth. 10Behold, I have this day set you over the nations and over the kingdoms, to pluck up and to break down and to destroy and to overthrow, to build and to plant.” 11Moreover Yahweh’s word came to me, saying, “Jeremiah, what do you see?” I said, “I see a branch of an almond tree.” 12Then Yahweh said to me, “You have seen well; for I watch over my word to perform it.” 13Yahweh’s word came to me the second time, saying, “What do you see?” I said, “I see a boiling cauldron; and it is tipping away from the north.” 14Then Yahweh said to me, “Out of the north evil will break out on all the inhabitants of the land. 15For, behold, I will call all the families of the kingdoms of the north,” says Yahweh; “and they shall come, and they shall each set his throne at the entrance of the gates of Jerusalem, and against all its walls all around, and against all the cities of Judah. 16I will utter my judgments against them touching all their wickedness, in that they have forsaken me, and have burned incense to other gods, and worshiped the works of their own hands. 17“You therefore put your belt on your waist, arise, and speak to them all that I command you. Don’t be dismayed at them, lest I dismay you before them. 18For, behold, I have made you this day a fortified city, and an iron pillar, and bronze walls, against the whole land, against the kings of Judah, against its princes, against its priests, and against the people of the land. 19They will fight against you; but they will not prevail against you; for I am with you”, says Yahweh, “to deliver you.”

En ik zeide: Ik zie een amandelroede. 12En de HEERE zeide tot mij: Gij hebt wel gezien; want Ik zal wakker zijn over Mijn woord, om dat te doen. 13En des HEEREN woord geschiedde ten tweeden male tot mij, zeggende: Wat ziet gij? En ik zeide: Ik zie een ziedenden pot, welks voorste deel tegen het noorden is. 14En de HEERE zeide tot mij: Van het noorden zal zich dit kwaad opdoen over alle inwoners des lands. 15Want zie, Ik roep alle geslachten der koninkrijken van het noorden, spreekt de HEERE; en zij zullen komen, en zetten een iegelijk zijn troon voor de deur der poorten van Jeruzalem, en tegen al haar muren rondom, en tegen alle steden van Juda. 16En Ik zal Mijn oordelen tegen hen uitspreken over al hun boosheid; dat zij Mij verlaten hebben, en anderen goden gerookt, en zich gebogen hebben voor de werken hunner handen. 17Gij dan, gord uw lendenen, en maakt u op, en spreek tot hen alles, wat Ik u gebieden zal; wees niet verslagen voor hun aangezicht, opdat Ik u voor hun aangezicht niet versla. 18Want zie, Ik stel u heden tot een vaste stad, en tot een ijzeren pilaar, en tot koperen muren tegen het ganse land; tegen de koningen van Juda, tegen haar vorsten, tegen haar priesteren, en tegen het volk van het land. 19En zij zullen tegen u strijden, maar tegen u niet vermogen; want Ik ben met u, spreekt de HEERE, om u uit te helpen.
