1Or avvenne ai giorni d’Achaz, figliuolo di Jotham, figliuolo d’Uzzia, re di Giuda, che Retsin, re di Siria, e Pekah, figliuolo di Remalia, re d’Israele, salirono contro Gerusalemme per muoverle guerra; ma non riuscirono ad espugnarla. 2E fu riferito alla casa di Davide questa notizia: "La Siria s’è confederata con Efraim". E il cuore d’Achaz e il cuore del suo popolo furono agitati, come gli alberi della foresta sono agitati dal vento. 3Allora l’Eterno disse ad Isaia: "Va’ incontro ad Achaz, tu con Scear-Jashub, tuo figliuolo, verso l’estremità dell’acquedotto dello stagno superiore, sulla strada del campo del gualchieraio e digli: 4Guarda di startene calmo e tranquillo, non temere e non ti s’avvilisca il cuore a motivo di questi due avanzi di tizzone fumanti, a motivo dell’ira ardente di Retsin e della Siria e del figliuolo di Remalia. 5Siccome la Siria, Efraim e il figliuolo di Remalia meditano del male a tuo danno, dicendo 6Saliamo contro Giuda, terrorizzandolo, apriamovi una breccia e proclamiamo re in mezzo ad esso il figliuolo di Tabbeel, 7così dice il Signore, l’Eterno: Questo non avrà effetto; non succederà; 8poiché Damasco è il capo della Siria, e Retsin è il capo di Damasco. Fra sessantacinque anni Efraim sarà fiaccato in guisa che non sarà più popolo. 9E Samaria è il capo d’Efraim, e il figliuolo di Remalia è il capo di Samaria. Se voi non avete fede, certo, non potrete sussistere". 10L’Eterno parlò di nuovo ad Achaz e gli disse: 11"Chiedi un segno all’Eterno, al tuo Dio! chiedilo giù nei luoghi sotterra o nei luoghi eccelsi!" 12Achaz rispose: "Io non chiederò nulla; non tenterò l’Eterno". 13E Isaia disse: "Or ascoltate, o casa di Davide! E’ egli poca cosa per voi lo stancar degli uomini, che volete stancare anche l’Iddio mio? 14Perciò il Signore stesso vi darà un segno: Ecco, la giovane concepirà, partorirà un figliuolo e gli porrà nome Emmanuele. 15Egli mangerà crema e miele finché sappia riprovare il male e scegliere il bene. 16Ma prima che il fanciullo sappia riprovare il male e scegliere il bene, il paese del quale tu paventi i due re, sarà devastato. 17L’Eterno farà venire su te, sul tuo popolo e sulla casa di tuo padre dei giorni, come non s’ebbero mai dal giorno che Efraim s’è separato da Giuda: vale a dire, il re d’Assiria. 18E in quel giorno l’Eterno fischierà alle mosche che sono all’estremità de’ fiumi d’Egitto, e alle api che sono nel paese d’Assiria. 19Esse verranno e si poseranno tutte nelle valli deserte, nelle fessure delle rocce, su tutti gli spini e su tutti i pascoli. 20In quel giorno, il Signore, con un rasoi preso a nolo di là dal fiume, cioè col re d’Assiria, raderà la testa, i peli delle gambe, e porterà via anche la barba. 21In quel giorno avverrà che uno nutrirà una giovine vacca e due pecore, 22ed esse daranno tale abbondanza di latte, che egli mangerà della crema; poiché crema e miele mangerà chiunque sarà rimasto superstite in mezzo al paese. 23In quel giorno, ogni terreno contenente mille viti del valore di mille sicli d’argento, sarà abbandonato in balìa de’ rovi e de’ pruni. 24Vi s’entrerà con le freccie e con l’arco, perché tutto il paese non sarà che rovi e pruni. 25E tutti i colli che si dissodavan con la vanga, non saran più frequentati per timore de’ rovi e dei pruni; vi si lasceran andare i buoi, e le pecore ne calpesteranno il suolo".
1In the days of Ahaz the son of Jotham, the son of Uzziah, king of Judah, Rezin the king of Syria, and Pekah the son of Remaliah, king of Israel, went up to Jerusalem to war against it, but could not prevail against it. 2It was told the house of David, saying, “Syria is allied with Ephraim.” His heart trembled, and the heart of his people, as the trees of the forest tremble with the wind. 3Then Yahweh said to Isaiah, “Go out now to meet Ahaz, you, and Shearjashub your son, at the end of the conduit of the upper pool, on the highway of the fuller’s field. 4Tell him, ‘Be careful, and keep calm. Don’t be afraid, neither let your heart be faint because of these two tails of smoking torches, for the fierce anger of Rezin and Syria, and of the son of Remaliah. 5Because Syria, Ephraim, and the son of Remaliah, have plotted evil against you, saying, 6“Let’s go up against Judah, and tear it apart, and let’s divide it among ourselves, and set up a king in its midst, even the son of Tabeel.” 7This is what the Lord Yahweh says: “It shall not stand, neither shall it happen.” 8For the head of Syria is Damascus, and the head of Damascus is Rezin; and within sixty-five years Ephraim shall be broken in pieces, so that it shall not be a people; 9and the head of Ephraim is Samaria, and the head of Samaria is Remaliah’s son. If you will not believe, surely you shall not be established.’” 10Yahweh spoke again to Ahaz, saying, 11“Ask a sign of Yahweh your God; ask it either in the depth, or in the height above.” 12But Ahaz said, “I will not ask, neither will I tempt Yahweh.” 13He said, “Listen now, house of David. Is it not enough for you to try the patience of men, that you will try the patience of my God also? 14Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign. Behold, the virgin will conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel. 15He shall eat butter and honey when he knows to refuse the evil, and choose the good. 16For before the child knows to refuse the evil, and choose the good, the land whose two kings you abhor shall be forsaken. 17Yahweh will bring on you, on your people, and on your father’s house, days that have not come, from the day that Ephraim departed from Judah; even the king of Assyria. 18It will happen in that day that Yahweh will whistle for the fly that is in the uttermost part of the rivers of Egypt, and for the bee that is in the land of Assyria. 19They shall come, and shall all rest in the desolate valleys, in the clefts of the rocks, on all thorn hedges, and on all pastures. 20In that day the Lord will shave with a razor that is hired in the parts beyond the River, even with the king of Assyria, the head and the hair of the feet; and it shall also consume the beard. 21It shall happen in that day that a man shall keep alive a young cow, and two sheep; 22and it shall happen, that because of the abundance of milk which they shall give he shall eat butter: for everyone will eat butter and honey that is left in the midst of the land. 23It will happen in that day that every place where there were a thousand vines at a thousand silver shekels, shall be for briers and thorns. 24People will go there with arrows and with bow, because all the land will be briers and thorns. 25All the hills that were cultivated with the hoe, you shall not come there for fear of briers and thorns; but it shall be for the sending out of oxen, and for the treading of sheep.”
1Het geschiedde nu in de dagen van Achaz, den zoon van Jotham, den zoon van Uzzia, den koning van Juda, dat Rezin, de koning van Syrie, en Pekah, de zoon van Remalia, de koning van Israel, optoog naar Jeruzalem, ten oorlog tegen haar; maar hij vermocht met strijden niet tegen haar. 2Als men den huize Davids boodschapte, zeggende: De Syriers rusten op Efraim, zo bewoog zich zijn hart en het hart zijns volks, gelijk de bomen des wouds bewogen worden van den wind. 3En de HEERE zeide tot Jesaja: Ga nu uit, Achaz tegemoet, gij en uw zoon, Schear-Jaschub, aan het einde van den watergang des oppersten vijvers, aan den hogen weg van het veld des vollers; 4En zeg tot hem: Wacht u, en zijt gerust, vrees niet, en uw hart worde niet week, vanwege die twee staarten dezer rokende vuurbranden; vanwege de ontsteking des toorns van Rezin en der Syriers, en van den zoon van Remalia; 5Omdat de Syrier kwaad tegen u beraadslaagd heeft, met Efraim en den zoon van Remalia, zeggende: 6Laat ons optrekken tegen Juda, en het verdriet aandoen, en het onder ons delen, en den zoon van Tabeal koning maken in het midden van hen. 7Alzo zegt de Heere HEERE: Het zal niet bestaan, en het zal niet geschieden. 8Maar Damaskus zal het hoofd van Syrie zijn, en Rezin het hoofd van Damaskus; en in nog vijf en zestig jaren zal Efraim verbroken worden, dat het geen volk zij. 9Ondertussen zal Samaria Efraims hoofd zijn, en de zoon van Remalia het hoofd van Samaria. Indien gijlieden niet gelooft, zekerlijk, gij zult niet bevestigd worden. 10En de HEERE voer voort te spreken tot Achaz, zeggende: 11Eis u een teken van den HEERE, uw God; eis beneden in de diepte, of eis boven uit de hoogte. 12Doch Achaz zeide: Ik zal het niet eisen, en ik zal den HEERE niet verzoeken. 13Toen zeide hij: Hoort gijlieden nu, gij, huis van David! is het ulieden te weinig, dat gij de mensen moede maakt, dat gij ook mijn God moede maakt? 14Daarom zal de Heere Zelf ulieden een teken geven; ziet, een maagd zal zwanger worden, en zij zal een Zoon baren, en Zijn naam IMMANUEL heten. 15Boter en honig zal Hij eten, totdat Hij wete te verwerpen het kwade, en te verkiezen het goede. 16Zekerlijk, eer dit Knechtje weet te verwerpen het kwade, en te verkiezen het goede, zal dat land, waarover gij verdrietig zijt, verlaten zijn van zijn twee koningen. 17Doch de HEERE zal over u, en over uw volk, en over uws vaders huis, dagen doen komen, hoedanige niet gekomen zijn van dien dag af, dat Efraim van Juda is afgeweken, door den koning van Assyrie. 18Want het zal te dien dage geschieden, dat de HEERE zal toesissen de vliegen, die aan het einde der rivieren van Egypte zijn, en de bijen die in het land van Assur zijn. 19En zij zullen komen, en zij allen zullen rusten in de woeste dalen, en in de kloven der steenrotsen, en in al de doornhagen, en in alle geprezene plaatsen. 20Te dien dage zal de Heere door een gehuurd scheermes, hetwelk aan gene zijde der rivier is, door den koning van Assyrie, afscheren het hoofd, en het haar der voeten; ja, het zal ook den baard gans wegnemen. 21En het zal geschieden te dien dage, dat iemand een koetje in het leven zal behouden hebben, en twee schapen; 22En het zal geschieden, dat hij vanwege de veelheid der melk, die zij geven zullen, boter zal eten; ja, een ieder, die overgebleven zal zijn in het midden des lands, die zal boter en honig eten. 23Ook zal het te dienzelfden dage geschieden, dat iedere plaats, alwaar duizend wijnstokken geweest zijn, van duizend zilverlingen, tot doornen en distelen zal zijn; 24Dat men met pijlen en met den boog aldaar zal moeten gaan; want het ganse land zal doornen en distelen zijn. 25Ook al de bergen, die men met houwelen pleegt om te hakken, daar zal men niet komen uit vrees der doornen en der distelen; maar die zullen wezen tot inzending van den os, en tot vertreding van het kleinvee.
