1Consolate, consolate il mio popolo, dice il vostro Dio. 2Parlate al cuor di Gerusalemme, e proclamatele che il tempo della sua servitù è compiuto; che il debito della sua iniquità è pagato, ch’ella ha ricevuto dalla mano dell’Eterno il doppio per tutti i suoi peccati. 3La voce d’uno grida: "Preparate nel deserto la via dell’Eterno, appianate ne’ luoghi aridi una strada per il nostro Dio! 4Ogni valle sia colmata, ogni monte ed ogni colle siano abbassati; i luoghi erti siano livellati, i luoghi scabri diventino pianura. 5Allora la gloria dell’Eterno sarà rivelata, e ogni carne, ad un tempo, la vedrà; perché la bocca dell’Eterno l’ha detto". 6Una voce dice: "Grida!" E si risponde: "Che griderò?" "Grida che ogni carne è come l’erba, e che tutta la sua grazia è come il fiore del campo. 7L’erba si secca, il fiore appassisce quando il soffio dell’Eterno vi passa sopra; certo, il popolo è come l’erba. 8L’erba si secca, il fiore appassisce, ma la parola del nostro Dio sussiste in eterno". 9O tu che rechi la buona novella a Sion, sali sopra un alto monte! O tu che rechi la buona novella a Gerusalemme, alza forte la voce! Alzala, non temere! Di’ alle città di Giuda: "Ecco il vostro Dio!" 10Ecco, il Signore, l’Eterno, viene con potenza, e col suo braccio Ei domina. Ecco, la sua mercede è con lui, e la sua ricompensa lo precede. 11Come un pastore, egli pascerà il suo gregge; raccoglierà gli agnelli in braccio, se li torrà in seno, e condurrà pian piano le pecore che allattano. 12Chi ha misurato le acque nel cavo della sui mano o preso le dimensioni del cielo con la spanna? Chi ha raccolto la polvere della terra in una misura o pesato le montagne con la stadera ed i colli con la bilancia? 13Chi ha preso le dimensioni dello spirito dell’Eterno o chi gli è stato consigliere per insegnargli qualcosa? 14Chi ha egli consultato perché gli desse istruzione e gl’insegnasse il sentiero della giustizia, gl’impartisse la sapienza, e gli facesse conoscere la via del discernimento? 15Ecco, le nazioni sono, agli occhi suoi, come una gocciola della secchia, come la polvere minuta delle bilance; ecco, le isole son come pulviscolo che vola. 16Il libano non basterebbe a procurar il fuoco, e i suoi animali non basterebbero per l’olocausto. 17Tutte le nazioni son come nulla dinanzi a lui; ei le reputa meno che nulla, una vanità. 18A chi vorreste voi assomigliare Iddio? e con quale immagine lo rappresentereste? 19Un artista fonde l’idolo, l’orafo lo ricopre d’oro e vi salda delle catenelle d’argento. 20Colui che la povertà costrinse ad offrir poco sceglie un legno che non marcisca, e si procura un abile artista, che metta su un idolo che non si smova. 21Ma non lo sapete? non l’avete sentito? Non v’è stato annunziato fin dal principio? Non avete riflettuto alla fondazione della terra? 22Egli è colui che sta assiso sul globo della terra, e gli abitanti d’essa son per lui come locuste; egli distese i cieli come una cortina, e li spiega come una tenda per abitarvi; 23egli riduce i principi a nulla, e annienta i giudici della terra; 24appena piantati, appena seminati, appena il loro fusto ha preso radici in terra, Egli vi soffia contro, e quelli seccano, e l’uragano li porta via come stoppia. 25A chi dunque voi vorreste somigliare perch’io gli sia pari? dice il Santo. 26Levate gli occhi in alto, e guardate: Chi ha create queste cose? Colui che fa uscir fuori, e conta il loro esercito, che le chiama tutte per nome; e per la grandezza del suo potere e per la potenza della sua forza, non una manca. 27Perché dici tu, o Giacobbe, e perché parli così, o Israele: "La mia via è occulta all’Eterno e al mio diritto non bada il mio Dio?" 28Non lo sai tu? non l’hai tu udito? L’Eterno è l’Iddio d’eternità, il creatore degli estremi confini della terra. Egli non s’affatica e non si stanca; la sua intelligenza è imperscrutabile. 29Egli dà forza allo stanco, e accresce vigore a colui ch’è spossato. 30I giovani s’affaticano e si stancano; i giovani scelti vacillano e cadono, 31ma quelli che sperano nell’Eterno acquistan nuove forze, s’alzano a volo come aquile; corrono e non si stancano, camminano e non s’affaticano.
1“Comfort, comfort my people,” says your God. 2“Speak comfortably to Jerusalem; and call out to her that her warfare is accomplished, that her iniquity is pardoned, that she has received of Yahweh’s hand double for all her sins.” 3The voice of one who calls out, “Prepare the way of Yahweh in the wilderness! Make a level highway in the desert for our God. 4Every valley shall be exalted, and every mountain and hill shall be made low. The uneven shall be made level, and the rough places a plain. 5Yahweh’s glory shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together; for the mouth of Yahweh has spoken it.” 6The voice of one saying, “Cry!” One said, “What shall I cry?” “All flesh is like grass, and all its glory is like the flower of the field. 7The grass withers, the flower fades, because Yahweh’s breath blows on it. Surely the people are like grass. 8The grass withers, the flower fades; but the word of our God stands forever.” 9You who tell good news to Zion, go up on a high mountain. You who tell good news to Jerusalem, lift up your voice with strength. Lift it up. Don’t be afraid. Say to the cities of Judah, “Behold, your God!” 10Behold, the Lord Yahweh will come as a mighty one, and his arm will rule for him. Behold, his reward is with him, and his recompense before him. 11He will feed his flock like a shepherd. He will gather the lambs in his arm, and carry them in his bosom. He will gently lead those who have their young. 12Who has measured the waters in the hollow of his hand, and marked off the sky with his span, and calculated the dust of the earth in a measure, and weighed the mountains in scales, and the hills in a balance? 13Who has directed the Spirit of Yahweh, or has taught him as his counselor? 14Who did he take counsel with, and who instructed him, and taught him in the path of justice, and taught him knowledge, and showed him the way of understanding? 15Behold, the nations are like a drop in a bucket, and are regarded as a speck of dust on a balance. Behold, he lifts up the islands like a very little thing. 16Lebanon is not sufficient to burn, nor its animals sufficient for a burnt offering. 17All the nations are like nothing before him. They are regarded by him as less than nothing, and vanity. 18To whom then will you liken God? Or what likeness will you compare to him? 19A workman has cast an image, and the goldsmith overlays it with gold, and casts silver chains for it. 20He who is too impoverished for such an offering chooses a tree that will not rot. He seeks a skillful workman to set up an engraved image for him that will not be moved. 21Haven’t you known? Haven’t you heard, yet? Haven’t you been told from the beginning? Haven’t you understood from the foundations of the earth? 22It is he who sits above the circle of the earth, and its inhabitants are like grasshoppers; who stretches out the heavens like a curtain, and spreads them out like a tent to dwell in; 23who brings princes to nothing; who makes the judges of the earth like meaningless. 24They are planted scarcely. They are sown scarcely. Their stock has scarcely taken root in the ground. He merely blows on them, and they wither, and the whirlwind takes them away as stubble. 25“To whom then will you liken me? Who is my equal?” says the Holy One. 26Lift up your eyes on high, and see who has created these, who brings out their army by number. He calls them all by name. by the greatness of his might, and because he is strong in power, Not one is lacking. 27Why do you say, Jacob, and speak, Israel, “My way is hidden from Yahweh, and the justice due me is disregarded by my God?” 28Haven’t you known? Haven’t you heard? The everlasting God, Yahweh, The Creator of the ends of the earth, doesn’t faint. He isn’t weary. His understanding is unsearchable. 29He gives power to the weak. He increases the strength of him who has no might. 30Even the youths faint and get weary, and the young men utterly fall; 31But those who wait for Yahweh will renew their strength. They will mount up with wings like eagles. They will run, and not be weary. They will walk, and not faint.

Alle vlees is gras, en al zijn goedertierenheid als een bloem des velds. 7Het gras verdort, de bloem valt af, als de Geest des HEEREN daarin blaast; voorwaar, het volk is gras. 8Het gras verdort, de bloem valt af; maar het Woord onzes Gods bestaat in der eeuwigheid. 9O Sion, gij verkondigster van goede boodschap, klim op een hogen berg; o Jeruzalem, gij verkondigster van goede boodschap, hef uw stem op met macht, hef ze op, vrees niet, zeg den steden van Juda: Zie hier is uw God! 10Ziet, de Heere HEERE zal komen tegen den sterke, en Zijn arm zal heersen; ziet, Zijn loon is bij Hem, en Zijn arbeidsloon is voor Zijn aangezicht. 11Hij zal Zijn kudde weiden gelijk een herder; Hij zal de lammeren in Zijn armen vergaderen, en in Zijn schoot dragen; de zogenden zal Hij zachtjes leiden. 12Wie heeft de wateren met Zijn vuist gemeten, en van de hemelen met de span de maat genomen, en heeft met een drieling het stof der aarde begrepen, en de bergen gewogen in een waag, en de heuvelen in een weegschaal? 13Wie heeft den Geest des HEEREN bestierd, en wie heeft Hem als Zijn raadsman onderwezen? 14Met wien heeft Hij raad gehouden, die Hem verstand zou geven, en Hem zou leren van het pad des rechts, en Hem wetenschap zou leren, en Hem zou bekend maken den weg des veelvoudigen verstands? 15Ziet, de volken zijn geacht als een druppel van een emmer, en als een stofje van de weegschaal; ziet, Hij werpt de eilanden henen als dun stof! 16En de Libanon is niet genoegzaam om te branden, en zijn gedierte is niet genoegzaam ten brandoffer. 17Alle volken zijn als niets voor Hem; en zij worden bij Hem geacht minder dan niet, en ijdelheid. 18Bij wien dan zult gij God vergelijken, of wat gelijkenis zult gij op Hem toepassen? 19De werkmeester giet een beeld, en de goudsmid overtrekt het met goud, en giet er zilveren ketenen toe. 20Die verarmd is, dat hij niet te offeren heeft, die kiest een hout uit, dat niet verrotte; hij zoekt zich een wijzen werkmeester, om een beeld te bereiden, dat niet wankele. 21Weet gijlieden niet? Hoort gij niet? Is het u van den beginne aan niet bekend gemaakt! Hebt gij op de grondvesten der aarde niet gelet? 22Hij is het, Die daar zit boven den kloot der aarde, en derzelver inwoners zijn als sprinkhanen; Hij is het, Die de hemelen uitspant als een dunnen doek, en breidt ze uit als een tent, om te bewonen; 23Die de vorsten te niet maakt; de richters der aarde maakt Hij tot ijdelheid. 24Ja, zij worden niet geplant, ja, zij worden niet gezaaid, ja, hun afgehouwen stam wortelt niet in de aarde; ook als Hij op hen blazen zal, zo zullen zij verdorren, en een stormwind zal hen als een stoppel wegnemen. 25Bij wien dan zult gijlieden Mij vergelijken, dien Ik gelijk zij? zegt de Heilige. 26Heft uw ogen op omhoog, en ziet, Wie deze dingen geschapen heeft; Die in getal hun heir voortbrengt; Die ze alle bij name roept, vanwege de grootheid Zijner krachten, en omdat Hij sterk van vermogen is; er wordt er niet een gemist. 27Waarom zegt gij dan, o Jakob! en spreekt, o Israel! mijn weg is voor den HEERE verborgen, en mijn recht gaat van mijn God voorbij? 28Weet gij het niet? Hebt gij niet gehoord, dat de eeuwige God, de HEERE, de Schepper van de einden der aarde, noch moede noch mat wordt? Er is geen doorgronding van Zijn verstand. 29Hij geeft den moeden kracht, en Hij vermenigvuldigt de sterkte dien, die geen krachten heeft. 30De jongen zullen moede en mat worden, en de jongelingen zullen gewisselijk vallen; 31Maar dien den HEERE verwachten, zullen de kracht vernieuwen; zij zullen opvaren met vleugelen, gelijk de arenden; zij zullen lopen, en niet moede worden; zij zullen wandelen, en niet mat worden.
