1In quel tempo, Merodac-Baladan figliuolo di Baladan, re di Babilonia, mandò una lettera e un dono ad Ezechia, perché aveva udito ch’egli era stato infermo ed era guarito. 2Ed Ezechia se ne rallegrò, e mostrò ai messi la casa ove teneva i suoi oggetti di valore, l’argento, l’oro, gli aromi, gli oli preziosi, tutto il suo arsenale, e tutto quello che si trovava nei suoi tesori; non ci fu nulla, nella sua casa e in tutti i suoi domini, che Ezechia non mostrasse loro. 3Allora il profeta Isaia venne al re Ezechia, e gli disse: "Che hanno detto quegli uomini? e donde son venuti a te?" Ezechia rispose: "Son venuti a me da un paese lontano, da Babilonia". 4E Isaia gli disse: "Che hanno veduto in casa tua?" Ezechia rispose: "Hanno veduto tutto quello ch’è in casa mia; non v’è nulla ne’ miei tesori ch’io non abbia mostrato loro". 5Allora Isaia disse ad Ezechia: "Ascolta la parola dell’Eterno degli eserciti: 6Ecco, verranno dei giorni in cui tutto quello ch’è in casa tua e quello che i tuoi padri hanno accumulato fino a questo giorno sarà trasportato a Babilonia; e non né rimarrà nulla, dice l’Eterno. 7E vi saranno de’ tuoi figliuoli usciti da te e da te generati, che saranno presi e diventeranno degli eunuchi nel palazzo del re di Babilonia". 8Ed Ezechia disse a Isaia: "La parola dell’Eterno che tu hai pronunziata, è buona". Poi aggiunse: "Perché vi sarà almeno pace e sicurezza durante la mia vita".
1At that time, Merodach Baladan the son of Baladan, king of Babylon, sent letters and a present to Hezekiah; for he heard that he had been sick, and had recovered. 2Hezekiah was pleased with them, and showed them the house of his precious things, the silver, and the gold, the spices, and the precious oil, and all the house of his armor, and all that was found in his treasures. There was nothing in his house, nor in all his dominion, that Hezekiah didn’t show them. 3Then Isaiah the prophet came to king Hezekiah, and asked him, “What did these men say? Where did they come from to you?” Hezekiah said, “They have come from a country far from me, even from Babylon.” 4Then he asked, “What have they seen in your house?” Hezekiah answered, “They have seen all that is in my house. There is nothing among my treasures that I have not shown them.” 5Then Isaiah said to Hezekiah, “Hear the word of Yahweh of Armies: 6‘Behold, the days are coming when all that is in your house, and that which your fathers have stored up until this day, will be carried to Babylon. Nothing will be left,’ says Yahweh. 7‘They will take away your sons who will issue from you, whom you shall father, and they will be eunuchs in the king of Babylon’s palace.’” 8Then Hezekiah said to Isaiah, “Yahweh’s word which you have spoken is good.” He said moreover, “For there will be peace and truth in my days.”

En Hizkia zeide: Zij zijn uit verren lande tot mij gekomen, uit Babel. 4En hij zeide: Wat hebben zij gezien in uw huis? En Hizkia zeide: Zij hebben alles gezien, wat in mijn huis is; geen ding is er in mijn schatten, dat ik hun niet getoond heb. 5Toen zeide Jesaja tot Hizkia: Hoor het woord des HEEREN der heirscharen. 6Zie, de dagen komen, dat al wat in uw huis is, en wat uw vaders opgelegd hebben tot een schat tot op dezen dag, naar Babel weggevoerd zal worden; er zal niets overgelaten worden, zegt de HEERE. 7Daartoe zullen zij van uw zonen, die uit u zullen voortkomen, die gij gewinnen zult, nemen, dat zij hovelingen zijn in het paleis des konings van Babel. 8Maar Hizkia zeide tot Jesaja: Het woord des HEEREN, dat gij gesproken hebt, is goed. Ook zeide hij: Doch het zij vrede en waarheid in mijn dagen!
