1Il arriva, du temps d’Achaz, fils de Jotham, fils d’Ozias, roi de Juda, que Retsin, roi de Syrie, monta avec Pékach, fils de Remalia, roi d’Israël, contre Jérusalem, pour l’assiéger ; mais il ne put l’assiéger. 2On vint dire à la maison de David : Les Syriens sont campés en Éphraïm. Et le cœur d’Achaz et le cœur de son peuple furent agités, comme les arbres de la forêt sont agités par le vent. 3Alors l’Éternel dit à Ésaïe : Va à la rencontre d’Achaz, toi et Schear-Jaschub, ton fils, vers l’extrémité de l’aqueduc de l’étang supérieur, sur la route du champ du foulon. 4Et dis-lui : Sois tranquille, ne crains rien, Et que ton cœur ne s’alarme pas, Devant ces deux bouts de tisons fumants, Devant la colère de Retsin et de la Syrie, et du fils de Remalia, 5De ce que la Syrie médite du mal contre toi, De ce qu’Éphraïm et le fils de Remalia disent : 6Montons contre Juda, assiégeons la ville, Et battons-la en brèche, Et proclamons-y pour roi le fils de Tabeel. 7Ainsi parle le Seigneur, l’Éternel : Cela n’arrivera pas, cela n’aura pas lieu. 8Car Damas est la tête de la Syrie, Et Retsin est la tête de Damas. (Encore soixante-cinq ans, Éphraïm ne sera plus un peuple.) 9La Samarie est la tête d’Éphraïm, Et le fils de Remalia est la tête de la Samarie. Si vous ne croyez pas, Vous ne subsisterez pas. 10L’Éternel parla de nouveau à Achaz, et lui dit : 11Demande en ta faveur un signe à l’Éternel, ton Dieu ; demande-le, soit dans les lieux bas, soit dans les lieux élevés. 12Achaz répondit : Je ne demanderai rien, je ne tenterai pas l’Éternel. 13Ésaïe dit alors : Écoutez donc, maison de David ! Est-ce trop peu pour vous de lasser la patience des hommes, Que vous lassiez encore celle de mon Dieu ? 14C’est pourquoi le Seigneur lui-même vous donnera un signe, Voici, la jeune fille deviendra enceinte, elle enfantera un fils, Et elle lui donnera le nom d’Emmanuel. 15Il mangera de la crème et du miel, Jusqu’à ce qu’il sache rejeter le mal et choisir le bien. 16Mais avant que l’enfant sache rejeter le mal et choisir le bien, Le pays dont tu crains les deux rois sera abandonné. 17L’Éternel fera venir sur toi, Sur ton peuple et sur la maison de ton père, Des jours tels qu’il n’y en a point eu Depuis le jour où Éphraïm s’est séparé de Juda (Le roi d’Assyrie.) 18En ce jour-là, l’Éternel sifflera les mouches Qui sont à l’extrémité des canaux de l’Égypte, Et les abeilles qui sont au pays d’Assyrie ; 19Elles viendront, et se poseront toutes dans les vallons désolés, Et dans les fentes des rochers, Sur tous les buissons, Et sur tous les pâturages. 20En ce jour-là, le Seigneur rasera, avec un rasoir pris à louage Au delà du fleuve, Avec le roi d’Assyrie, La tête et le poil des pieds ; Il enlèvera aussi la barbe. 21En ce jour-là, Chacun entretiendra une jeune vache et deux brebis ; 22Et il y aura une telle abondance de lait Qu’on mangera de la crème, Car c’est de crème et de miel que se nourriront Tous ceux qui seront restés dans le pays. 23En ce jour-là, Tout lieu qui contiendra mille ceps de vigne, Valant mille sicles d’argent, Sera livré aux ronces et aux épines : 24On y entrera avec les flèches et avec l’arc, Car tout le pays ne sera que ronces et épines. 25Et toutes les montagnes que l’on cultivait avec la bêche Ne seront plus fréquentées, par crainte des ronces et des épines : On y lâchera le bœuf, et la brebis en foulera le sol.
1In the days of Ahaz the son of Jotham, the son of Uzziah, king of Judah, Rezin the king of Syria, and Pekah the son of Remaliah, king of Israel, went up to Jerusalem to war against it, but could not prevail against it. 2It was told the house of David, saying, “Syria is allied with Ephraim.” His heart trembled, and the heart of his people, as the trees of the forest tremble with the wind. 3Then Yahweh said to Isaiah, “Go out now to meet Ahaz, you, and Shearjashub your son, at the end of the conduit of the upper pool, on the highway of the fuller’s field. 4Tell him, ‘Be careful, and keep calm. Don’t be afraid, neither let your heart be faint because of these two tails of smoking torches, for the fierce anger of Rezin and Syria, and of the son of Remaliah. 5Because Syria, Ephraim, and the son of Remaliah, have plotted evil against you, saying, 6“Let’s go up against Judah, and tear it apart, and let’s divide it among ourselves, and set up a king in its midst, even the son of Tabeel.” 7This is what the Lord Yahweh says: “It shall not stand, neither shall it happen.” 8For the head of Syria is Damascus, and the head of Damascus is Rezin; and within sixty-five years Ephraim shall be broken in pieces, so that it shall not be a people; 9and the head of Ephraim is Samaria, and the head of Samaria is Remaliah’s son. If you will not believe, surely you shall not be established.’” 10Yahweh spoke again to Ahaz, saying, 11“Ask a sign of Yahweh your God; ask it either in the depth, or in the height above.” 12But Ahaz said, “I will not ask, neither will I tempt Yahweh.” 13He said, “Listen now, house of David. Is it not enough for you to try the patience of men, that you will try the patience of my God also? 14Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign. Behold, the virgin will conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel. 15He shall eat butter and honey when he knows to refuse the evil, and choose the good. 16For before the child knows to refuse the evil, and choose the good, the land whose two kings you abhor shall be forsaken. 17Yahweh will bring on you, on your people, and on your father’s house, days that have not come, from the day that Ephraim departed from Judah; even the king of Assyria. 18It will happen in that day that Yahweh will whistle for the fly that is in the uttermost part of the rivers of Egypt, and for the bee that is in the land of Assyria. 19They shall come, and shall all rest in the desolate valleys, in the clefts of the rocks, on all thorn hedges, and on all pastures. 20In that day the Lord will shave with a razor that is hired in the parts beyond the River, even with the king of Assyria, the head and the hair of the feet; and it shall also consume the beard. 21It shall happen in that day that a man shall keep alive a young cow, and two sheep; 22and it shall happen, that because of the abundance of milk which they shall give he shall eat butter: for everyone will eat butter and honey that is left in the midst of the land. 23It will happen in that day that every place where there were a thousand vines at a thousand silver shekels, shall be for briers and thorns. 24People will go there with arrows and with bow, because all the land will be briers and thorns. 25All the hills that were cultivated with the hoe, you shall not come there for fear of briers and thorns; but it shall be for the sending out of oxen, and for the treading of sheep.”
1Het geschiedde nu in de dagen van Achaz, den zoon van Jotham, den zoon van Uzzia, den koning van Juda, dat Rezin, de koning van Syrie, en Pekah, de zoon van Remalia, de koning van Israel, optoog naar Jeruzalem, ten oorlog tegen haar; maar hij vermocht met strijden niet tegen haar. 2Als men den huize Davids boodschapte, zeggende: De Syriers rusten op Efraim, zo bewoog zich zijn hart en het hart zijns volks, gelijk de bomen des wouds bewogen worden van den wind. 3En de HEERE zeide tot Jesaja: Ga nu uit, Achaz tegemoet, gij en uw zoon, Schear-Jaschub, aan het einde van den watergang des oppersten vijvers, aan den hogen weg van het veld des vollers; 4En zeg tot hem: Wacht u, en zijt gerust, vrees niet, en uw hart worde niet week, vanwege die twee staarten dezer rokende vuurbranden; vanwege de ontsteking des toorns van Rezin en der Syriers, en van den zoon van Remalia; 5Omdat de Syrier kwaad tegen u beraadslaagd heeft, met Efraim en den zoon van Remalia, zeggende: 6Laat ons optrekken tegen Juda, en het verdriet aandoen, en het onder ons delen, en den zoon van Tabeal koning maken in het midden van hen. 7Alzo zegt de Heere HEERE: Het zal niet bestaan, en het zal niet geschieden. 8Maar Damaskus zal het hoofd van Syrie zijn, en Rezin het hoofd van Damaskus; en in nog vijf en zestig jaren zal Efraim verbroken worden, dat het geen volk zij. 9Ondertussen zal Samaria Efraims hoofd zijn, en de zoon van Remalia het hoofd van Samaria. Indien gijlieden niet gelooft, zekerlijk, gij zult niet bevestigd worden. 10En de HEERE voer voort te spreken tot Achaz, zeggende: 11Eis u een teken van den HEERE, uw God; eis beneden in de diepte, of eis boven uit de hoogte. 12Doch Achaz zeide: Ik zal het niet eisen, en ik zal den HEERE niet verzoeken. 13Toen zeide hij: Hoort gijlieden nu, gij, huis van David! is het ulieden te weinig, dat gij de mensen moede maakt, dat gij ook mijn God moede maakt? 14Daarom zal de Heere Zelf ulieden een teken geven; ziet, een maagd zal zwanger worden, en zij zal een Zoon baren, en Zijn naam IMMANUEL heten. 15Boter en honig zal Hij eten, totdat Hij wete te verwerpen het kwade, en te verkiezen het goede. 16Zekerlijk, eer dit Knechtje weet te verwerpen het kwade, en te verkiezen het goede, zal dat land, waarover gij verdrietig zijt, verlaten zijn van zijn twee koningen. 17Doch de HEERE zal over u, en over uw volk, en over uws vaders huis, dagen doen komen, hoedanige niet gekomen zijn van dien dag af, dat Efraim van Juda is afgeweken, door den koning van Assyrie. 18Want het zal te dien dage geschieden, dat de HEERE zal toesissen de vliegen, die aan het einde der rivieren van Egypte zijn, en de bijen die in het land van Assur zijn. 19En zij zullen komen, en zij allen zullen rusten in de woeste dalen, en in de kloven der steenrotsen, en in al de doornhagen, en in alle geprezene plaatsen. 20Te dien dage zal de Heere door een gehuurd scheermes, hetwelk aan gene zijde der rivier is, door den koning van Assyrie, afscheren het hoofd, en het haar der voeten; ja, het zal ook den baard gans wegnemen. 21En het zal geschieden te dien dage, dat iemand een koetje in het leven zal behouden hebben, en twee schapen; 22En het zal geschieden, dat hij vanwege de veelheid der melk, die zij geven zullen, boter zal eten; ja, een ieder, die overgebleven zal zijn in het midden des lands, die zal boter en honig eten. 23Ook zal het te dienzelfden dage geschieden, dat iedere plaats, alwaar duizend wijnstokken geweest zijn, van duizend zilverlingen, tot doornen en distelen zal zijn; 24Dat men met pijlen en met den boog aldaar zal moeten gaan; want het ganse land zal doornen en distelen zijn. 25Ook al de bergen, die men met houwelen pleegt om te hakken, daar zal men niet komen uit vrees der doornen en der distelen; maar die zullen wezen tot inzending van den os, en tot vertreding van het kleinvee.
