1Malheur à la couronne superbe des ivrognes d’Éphraïm, À la fleur fanée, qui fait l’éclat de sa parure, Sur la cime de la fertile vallée de ceux qui s’enivrent ! 2Voici venir, de la part du Seigneur, un homme fort et puissant, Comme un orage de grêle, un ouragan destructeur, Comme une tempête qui précipite des torrents d’eaux : Il la fait tomber en terre avec violence. 3Elle sera foulée aux pieds, La couronne superbe des ivrognes d’Éphraïm ; 4Et la fleur fanée, qui fait l’éclat de sa parure, Sur la cime de la fertile vallée, Sera comme une figue hâtive qu’on aperçoit avant la récolte, Et qui, à peine dans la main, est aussitôt avalée. 5En ce jour, l’Éternel des armées sera Une couronne éclatante et une parure magnifique Pour le reste de son peuple, 6Un esprit de justice pour celui qui est assis au siège de la justice, Et une force pour ceux qui repoussent l’ennemi jusqu’à ses portes. 7Mais eux aussi, ils chancellent dans le vin, Et les boissons fortes leur donnent des vertiges ; Sacrificateurs et prophètes chancellent dans les boissons fortes, Ils sont absorbés par le vin, Ils ont des vertiges à cause des boissons fortes ; Ils chancellent en prophétisant, Ils vacillent en rendant la justice. 8Toutes les tables sont pleines de vomissements, d’ordures ; Il n’y a plus de place. - 9À qui veut-on enseigner la sagesse ? À qui veut-on donner des leçons ? Est-ce à des enfants qui viennent d’être sevrés, Qui viennent de quitter la mamelle ? 10Car c’est précepte sur précepte, précepte sur précepte, Règle sur règle, règle sur règle, Un peu ici, un peu là. - 11Hé bien ! c’est par des hommes aux lèvres balbutiantes Et au langage barbare Que l’Éternel parlera à ce peuple. 12Il lui disait : Voici le repos, Laissez reposer celui qui est fatigué ; Voici le lieu du repos ! Mais ils n’ont point voulu écouter. 13Et pour eux la parole de l’Éternel sera Précepte sur précepte, précepte sur précepte, Règle sur règle, règle sur règle, Un peu ici, un peu là, Afin qu’en marchant ils tombent à la renverse et se brisent, Afin qu’ils soient enlacés et pris. 14Écoutez donc la parole de l’Éternel, moqueurs, Vous qui dominez sur ce peuple de Jérusalem ! 15Vous dites : Nous avons fait une alliance avec la mort, Nous avons fait un pacte avec le séjour des morts ; Quand le fléau débordé passera, il ne nous atteindra pas, Car nous avons la fausseté pour refuge et le mensonge pour abri. 16C’est pourquoi ainsi parle le Seigneur, l’Éternel : Voici, j’ai mis pour fondement en Sion une pierre, Une pierre éprouvée, une pierre angulaire de prix, solidement posée ; Celui qui la prendra pour appui n’aura point hâte de fuir. 17Je ferai de la droiture une règle, Et de la justice un niveau ; Et la grêle emportera le refuge de la fausseté, Et les eaux inonderont l’abri du mensonge. 18Votre alliance avec la mort sera détruite, Votre pacte avec le séjour des morts ne subsistera pas ; Quand le fléau débordé passera, Vous serez par lui foulés aux pieds. 19Chaque fois qu’il passera, il vous saisira ; Car il passera tous les matins, le jour et la nuit, Et son bruit seul donnera l’épouvante. 20Le lit sera trop court pour s’y étendre, Et la couverture trop étroite pour s’en envelopper. 21Car l’Éternel se lèvera comme à la montagne de Peratsim, Il s’irritera comme dans la vallée de Gabaon, Pour faire son œuvre, son œuvre étrange, Pour exécuter son travail, son travail inouï. 22Maintenant, ne vous livrez point à la moquerie, De peur que vos liens ne soient resserrés ; Car la destruction de tout le pays est résolue ; Je l’ai appris du Seigneur, de l’Éternel des armées. 23Prêtez l’oreille, et écoutez ma voix ! Soyez attentifs, et écoutez ma parole ! 24Celui qui laboure pour semer laboure-t-il toujours ? Ouvre-t-il et brise-t-il toujours son terrain ? 25N’est-ce pas après en avoir aplani la surface Qu’il répand de la nielle et sème du cumin ; Qu’il met le froment par rangées, L’orge à une place marquée, Et l’épeautre sur les bords ? 26Son Dieu lui a enseigné la marche à suivre, Il lui a donné ses instructions. 27On ne foule pas la nielle avec le traîneau, Et la roue du chariot ne passe pas sur le cumin ; Mais on bat la nielle avec le bâton, Et le cumin avec la verge. 28On bat le blé, Mais on ne le bat pas toujours ; On y pousse la roue du chariot et les chevaux, Mais on ne l’écrase pas. 29Cela aussi vient de l’Éternel des armées ; Admirable est son conseil, et grande est sa sagesse.
1Woe to the crown of pride of the drunkards of Ephraim, and to the fading flower of his glorious beauty, which is on the head of the fertile valley of those who are overcome with wine! 2Behold, the Lord has a mighty and strong one. Like a storm of hail, a destroying storm, and like a storm of mighty waters overflowing, he will cast them down to the earth with his hand. 3The crown of pride of the drunkards of Ephraim will be trodden under foot. 4The fading flower of his glorious beauty, which is on the head of the fertile valley, shall be like the first-ripe fig before the summer; which someone picks and eats as soon as he sees it. 5In that day, Yahweh of Armies will become a crown of glory, and a diadem of beauty, to the residue of his people; 6and a spirit of justice to him who sits in judgment, and strength to those who turn back the battle at the gate. 7They also reel with wine, and stagger with strong drink. The priest and the prophet reel with strong drink. They are swallowed up by wine. They stagger with strong drink. They err in vision. They stumble in judgment. 8For all tables are completely full of filthy vomit and filthiness. 9Whom will he teach knowledge? To whom will he explain the message? Those who are weaned from the milk, and drawn from the breasts? 10For it is precept on precept, precept on precept; line on line, line on line; here a little, there a little. 11But he will speak to this nation with stammering lips and in another language; 12to whom he said, “This is the resting place. Give rest to weary”; and “This is the refreshing”; yet they would not hear. 13Therefore Yahweh’s word will be to them precept on precept, precept on precept; line on line, line on line; here a little, there a little; that they may go, fall backward, be broken, be snared, and be taken. 14Therefore hear Yahweh’s word, you scoffers, that rule this people in Jerusalem: 15“Because you have said, ‘We have made a covenant with death, and with Sheol are we in agreement. When the overflowing scourge passes through, it won’t come to us; for we have made lies our refuge, and we have hidden ourselves under falsehood.’” 16Therefore thus says the Lord Yahweh, “Behold, I lay in Zion for a foundation a stone, a tried stone, a precious cornerstone of a sure foundation. He who believes shall not act hastily. 17I will make justice the measuring line, and righteousness the plumb line. The hail will sweep away the refuge of lies, and the waters will overflow the hiding place. 18Your covenant with death shall be annulled, and your agreement with Sheol shall not stand. When the overflowing scourge passes through, then you will be trampled down by it. 19As often as it passes through, it will seize you; for morning by morning it will pass through, by day and by night; and it will be nothing but terror to understand the message.” 20For the bed is too short to stretch out on, and the blanket is too narrow to wrap oneself in. 21For Yahweh will rise up as on Mount Perazim. He will be angry as in the valley of Gibeon; that he may do his work, his unusual work, and bring to pass his act, his extraordinary act. 22Now therefore don’t be scoffers, lest your bonds be made strong; for I have heard a decree of destruction from the Lord, Yahweh of Armies, on the whole earth. 23Give ear, and hear my voice! Listen, and hear my speech! 24Does he who plows to sow plow continually? Does he keep turning the soil and breaking the clods? 25When he has leveled its surface, doesn’t he plant the dill, and scatter the cumin seed, and put in the wheat in rows, the barley in the appointed place, and the spelt in its place? 26For his God instructs him in right judgment, and teaches him. 27For the dill are not threshed with a sharp instrument, neither is a cart wheel turned over the cumin; but the dill is beaten out with a stick, and the cumin with a rod. 28Bread flour must be ground; so he will not always be threshing it. Although he drives the wheel of his threshing cart over it, his horses don’t grind it. 29This also comes out from Yahweh of Armies, who is wonderful in counsel, and excellent in wisdom.
1Wee de hovaardige kroon der dronkenen van Efraim, welker heerlijk sieraad is een afvallende bloem, die daar is op het hoofd der zeer vette vallei, der geslagenen van den wijn. 2Ziet, de Heere heeft een sterke en machtige, er is gelijk een hagelvloed, een poort des verderfs; gelijk een vloed der sterke wateren; die overvloeien, zal Hij ze ter aarde nederwerpen met de hand. 3De hovaardige kronen der dronkenen van Efraim zullen met voeten vertreden worden. 4En de afvallende bloem zijns heerlijken sieraads, die op het hoofd der zeer vette vallei is, zal zijn gelijk een vroegrijpe vrucht voor den zomer, welke, wanneer ze iemand ziet, terwijl zij nog in zijn hand is, slokt hij ze op. 5Te dien dage zal de HEERE der heirscharen tot een heerlijke Kroon en tot een sierlijken Krans zijn den overgeblevenen Zijns volks. 6En tot een Geest des oordeels dien, die ten oordeel zit, en tot een sterkte dengenen, die den strijd afkeren tot de poort toe. 7En ook dwalen dezen van den wijn, en zij dolen van den sterken drank; de priester en de profeet dwalen van den sterken drank; zij zijn verslonden van den wijn, zij dolen van sterken drank; zij dwalen in het gezicht; zij waggelen in het gericht. 8Want alle tafels zijn vol van uitspuwsel en van drek, zodat er geen plaats schoon is. 9Wien zou Hij dan de kennis leren, en wien zou Hij het gehoorde te verstaan geven? Den gespeenden van de melk, den afgetrokkenen van de borsten? 10Want het is gebod op gebod, gebod op gebod, regel op regel, regel op regel, hier een weinig, daar een weinig. 11Daarom zal Hij door belachelijke lippen, en door een andere tong tot dit volk spreken; 12Tot dewelken Hij gezegd heeft: Dit is de rust, geeft den moeden rust, en dit is de verkwikking; doch zij hebben niet willen horen. 13Zo zal hun het woord des HEEREN zijn; gebod op gebod, gebod op gebod, regel op regel, regel op regel, hier een weinig, daar een weinig; opdat zij heengaan, en achterwaarts vallen, en verbreken, en verstrikt en gevangen worden. 14Daarom, hoort des HEEREN woord, gij bespotters, gij heersers over dit volk, dat te Jeruzalem is! 15Omdat gijlieden zegt: Wij hebben een verbond met den dood gemaakt, en met de hel hebben wij een voorzichtig verdrag gemaakt; wanneer de overvloeiende gesel doortrekken zal, zal hij tot ons niet komen; want wij hebben de leugen ons tot een toevlucht gesteld, en onder de valsheid hebben wij ons verborgen. 16Daarom, alzo zegt de Heere HEERE: Ziet, Ik leg een grondsteen in Sion, een beproefden steen, een kostelijken hoeksteen, die wel vast gegrondvest is; wie gelooft, die zal niet haasten. 17En Ik zal het gericht stellen naar het richtsnoer, en de gerechtigheid naar het paslood; en de hagel zal de toevlucht der leugen wegvagen, en de wateren zullen de schuilplaats overlopen. 18En ulieder verbond met den dood zal te niet worden, en uw voorzichtig verdrag met de hel zal niet bestaan; wanneer de overvloeiende gesel doortrekken zal, dan zult gijlieden van denzelven vertreden worden. 19Van den tijd af, als hij doortrekt, zal hij ulieden wegnemen, want allen morgen zal hij doortrekken, bij dag en bij nacht; en het zal geschieden, dat het gerucht te verstaan, enkel beroering wezen zal. 20Want het bed zal korter zijn, dan dat men zich daarop uitstrekken kunne; en het deksel zal te smal wezen, als men zich daaronder voegt. 21Want de HEERE zal Zich opmaken, gelijk op den berg Perazim, Hij zal beroerd zijn, gelijk in het dal van Gibeon, om Zijn werk te doen, Zijn werk zal vreemd zijn; en om Zijn daad te doen, Zijn daad zal vreemd zijn! 22Nu dan, drijft den spot niet, opdat uw banden niet vaster gemaakt worden; want ik heb van den Heere HEERE der heirscharen gehoord een verdelging, ja, een, die vast besloten is over het ganse land. 23Neemt ter ore en hoort mijn stem, merkt op en hoort mijn rede! 24Ploegt de ploeger den gehelen dag om te zaaien? Opent en egt hij zijn land den gehelen dag? 25Is het niet alzo? Wanneer hij het bovenste van hetzelve effen gemaakt heeft, dan strooit hij wikken, en spreidt komijn, of hij werpt er van de beste tarwe in, of uitgelezen gerst, of spelt, elk aan zijn plaats. 26En zijn God onderricht hem van de wijze, Hij leert hem. 27Want men dorst de wikken niet met den dorswagen, en men laat het wagenrad niet rondom over het komijn gaan; maar de wikken slaat men uit met een staf, en het komijn met een stok; 28Het brood koren moet verbrijzeld worden, maar hij dorst het niet geduriglijk dorsende; noch hij breekt het met het wiel zijn wagens, noch hij verbrijzelt het met zijn paarden. 29Zulks komt ook voort van den HEERE der heirscharen; Hij is wonderlijk van raad, Hij is groot van daad.
