1Écoutez ceci, maison de Jacob, Vous qui portez le nom d’Israël, Et qui êtes sortis des eaux de Juda ; Vous qui jurez par le nom de l’Éternel, Et qui invoquez le Dieu d’Israël, Mais sans vérité ni droiture ! 2Car ils prennent leur nom de la ville sainte, Et ils s’appuient sur le Dieu d’Israël, Dont le nom est l’Éternel des armées. 3Dès longtemps j’ai fait les premières prédictions, Elles sont sorties de ma bouche, et je les ai publiées : Soudain j’ai agi, et elles se sont accomplies. 4Sachant que tu es endurci, Que ton cou est une barre de fer, Et que tu as un front d’airain, 5Je t’ai annoncé dès longtemps ces choses, je te les ai déclarées avant qu’elles arrivassent, Afin que tu ne dises pas : C’est mon idole qui les a faites, C’est mon image taillée ou mon image en fonte qui les a ordonnées. 6Tu entends ! Considère tout cela ! Et vous, ne l’avouerez-vous pas ?… Maintenant, je t’annonce des choses nouvelles, Cachées, inconnues de toi. 7Elles se produisent à présent, et n’appartiennent point au passé ; Jusqu’à leur avènement tu n’en avais aucune connaissance, Afin que tu ne dises pas : Voici, je le savais. 8Tu n’en as rien appris, tu n’en as rien su, Et jadis ton oreille n’en a point été frappée : Car je savais que tu serais infidèle, Et que dès ta naissance tu fus appelé rebelle. 9À cause de mon nom, je suspends ma colère ; À cause de ma gloire, je me contiens envers toi, Pour ne pas t’exterminer. 10Je t’ai mis au creuset, mais non pour retirer de l’argent ; Je t’ai éprouvé dans la fournaise de l’adversité. 11C’est pour l’amour de moi, pour l’amour de moi, que je veux agir ; Car comment mon nom serait-il profané ? Je ne donnerai pas ma gloire à un autre. 12Écoute-moi, Jacob ! Et toi, Israël, que j’ai appelé ! C’est moi, moi qui suis le premier, C’est aussi moi qui suis le dernier. 13Ma main a fondé la terre, Et ma droite a étendu les cieux : Je les appelle, et aussitôt ils se présentent. 14Vous tous, assemblez-vous, et écoutez ! Qui d’entre eux a annoncé ces choses ? Celui que l’Éternel aime exécutera sa volonté contre Babylone, Et son bras s’appesantira sur les Chaldéens. 15Moi, moi, j’ai parlé, et je l’ai appelé ; Je l’ai fait venir, et son œuvre réussira. 16Approchez-vous de moi, et écoutez ! Dès le commencement, je n’ai point parlé en cachette, Dès l’origine de ces choses, j’ai été là. Et maintenant, le Seigneur, l’Éternel, m’a envoyé avec son esprit. 17Ainsi parle l’Éternel, ton rédempteur, le Saint d’Israël : Moi, l’Éternel, ton Dieu, je t’instruis pour ton bien, Je te conduis dans la voie que tu dois suivre. 18Oh ! si tu étais attentif à mes commandements ! Ton bien-être serait comme un fleuve, Et ton bonheur comme les flots de la mer ; 19Ta postérité serait comme le sable, Et les fruits de tes entrailles comme les grains de sable ; Ton nom ne serait point effacé, anéanti devant moi. 20Sortez de Babylone, fuyez du milieu des Chaldéens ! Avec une voix d’allégresse annoncez-le, publiez-le, Faites-le savoir jusqu’à l’extrémité de la terre, Dites : L’Éternel a racheté son serviteur Jacob ! 21Et ils n’auront pas soif dans les déserts où il les conduira : Il fera jaillir pour eux l’eau du rocher, Il fendra le rocher, Et l’eau coulera. 22Il n’y a point de paix pour les méchants, dit l’Éternel.
1“Hear this, house of Jacob, you who are called by the name of Israel, and have come out of the waters of Judah; who swear by Yahweh’s name, and make mention of the God of Israel, but not in truth, nor in righteousness 2(for they call themselves of the holy city, and stay themselves on the God of Israel; Yahweh of Armies is his name): 3I have declared the former things from of old; yes, they went out of my mouth, and I showed them: suddenly I did them, and they happened. 4Because I knew that you are obstinate, and your neck is an iron sinew, and your brow brass; 5therefore I have declared it to you from of old; before it came to pass I showed it to you; lest you should say, ‘My idol has done them, and my engraved image, and my molten image, has commanded them.’ 6You have heard it; see all this; and you, will you not declare it? “I have shown you new things from this time, even hidden things, which you have not known. 7They are created now, and not from of old; and before this day you didn’t hear them; lest you should say, ‘Behold, I knew them.’ 8Yes, you didn’t hear; yes, you didn’t know; yes, from of old your ear was not opened: for I knew that you dealt very treacherously, and was called a transgressor from the womb. 9For my name’s sake will I defer my anger, and for my praise will I refrain for you, that I not cut you off. 10Behold, I have refined you, but not as silver; I have chosen you in the furnace of affliction. 11For my own sake, for my own sake, will I do it; for how should my name be profaned? I will not give my glory to another. 12“Listen to me, O Jacob, and Israel my called: I am he; I am the first, I also am the last. 13Yes, my hand has laid the foundation of the earth, and my right hand has spread out the heavens: when I call to them, they stand up together. 14“Assemble yourselves, all you, and hear; who among them has declared these things? He whom Yahweh loves shall perform his pleasure on Babylon, and his arm shall be on the Chaldeans. 15I, even I, have spoken; yes, I have called him; I have brought him, and he shall make his way prosperous. 16“Come near to me and hear this: “From the beginning I have not spoken in secret; from the time that it was, there am I.” Now the Lord Yahweh has sent me, with his Spirit. 17Thus says Yahweh, your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel: I am Yahweh your God, who teaches you to profit, who leads you by the way that you should go. 18Oh that you had listened to my commandments! then your peace would have been like a river, and your righteousness like the waves of the sea: 19your seed also had been as the sand, and the offspring of your body like its grains: his name would not be cut off nor destroyed from before me. 20Leave Babylon! Flee from the Chaldeans. With a voice of singing declare, tell this, utter it even to the end of the earth: say, Yahweh has redeemed his servant Jacob. 21They didn’t thirst when he led them through the deserts; he caused the waters to flow out of the rock for them; he split the rock also, and the waters gushed out. 22“There is no peace”, says Yahweh, “for the wicked.”
1Hoort dit, gij huis van Jakob, die genoemd wordt met den naam van Israel, en uit de wateren van Juda voortgekomen zijt! die daar zweert bij den Naam des HEEREN, en vermeldt den God Israels, maar niet in waarheid, noch in gerechtigheid. 2Ja, van de heilige stad worden zij genoemd, en zij steunen op den God Israels; HEERE der heirscharen is Zijn Naam. 3De vorige dingen heb Ik verkondigd van toen af, en uit Mijn mond zijn zij voortgekomen, en Ik heb ze doen horen; Ik heb ze snellijk gedaan, en zij zijn gekomen; 4Omdat Ik wist, dat gij hard zijt, en uw nek een ijzeren zenuw is, en uw voorhoofd koper; 5Daarom heb Ik het u van toen af verkondigd, eer dat het kwam, heb Ik het u doen horen; opdat gij niet misschien zoudt zeggen: Mijn afgod heeft die dingen gedaan, of mijn gesneden beeld, of mijn gegoten beeld heeft ze bevolen. 6Gij hebt het gehoord, aanmerkt dat alles; zult gijlieden het ook niet verkondigen? Van nu af doe Ik u nieuwe dingen horen, en verborgen dingen, en die gij niet geweten hebt. 7Nu zijn zij geschapen, en niet van toen af, en voor dezen dag hebt gij ze ook niet gehoord; opdat gij niet misschien zeggen zoudt: Ziet, ik heb ze geweten. 8Ook hebt gij ze niet gehoord, ook hebt gij ze niet geweten, ook van toen af is uw oor niet geopend geweest; want Ik heb geweten, dat gij gans trouwelooslijk handelen zoudt, en dat gij van den buik af een overtreder genaamd zijt. 9Om Mijns Naams wil zal Ik Mijn toorn langer uitstellen, en om Mijns roems wil zal Ik, u ten goede, Mij bedwingen, opdat Ik u niet afhouwe. 10Ziet, Ik heb u gelouterd, doch niet als zilver, Ik heb u gekeurd in den smeltkroes der ellende. 11Om Mijnentwil, om Mijnentwil zal Ik het doen, want hoe zou Hij ontheiligd worden? en Ik zal Mijn eer aan geen ander geven. 12Hoor naar Mij, o Jakob! en gij Israel, Mijn geroepene! Ik ben Dezelfde; Ik ben de Eerste, ook ben Ik de Laatste. 13Ook heeft Mijn hand de aarde gegrond, en Mijn rechterhand heeft de hemelen met de palm afgemeten; wanneer Ik ze roep, staan zij daar te zamen. 14Vergadert u, gij allen, en hoort; wie onder hen heeft deze dingen verkondigd? De HEERE heeft hem lief, Hij zal Zijn welbehagen tegen Babel doen, en Zijn arm zal tegen de Chaldeen zijn. 15Ik, Ik heb het gesproken, ook heb Ik hem geroepen; Ik zal hem doen komen, en hij zal voorspoedig zijn op zijn weg. 16Nadert gijlieden tot Mij, hoort dit: Ik heb van den beginne niet in het verborgene gesproken, maar van dien tijd af, dat het geschied is, ben Ik daar; en nu, de Heere HEERE, en Zijn Geest heeft Mij gezonden. 17Alzo zegt de HEERE, uw Verlosser, de Heilige Israels: Ik ben de HEERE, uw God, Die u leert, wat nut is, Die u leidt op den weg, dien gij gaan moet. 18Och, dat gij naar Mijn geboden geluisterd hadt! zo zou uw vrede geweest zijn als een rivier, en uw gerechtigheid als de golven der zee. 19Ook zou uw zaad geweest zijn als het zand, en die uit uw ingewanden voortkomen als deszelfs steentjes; wiens naam niet zou worden afgehouwen, noch verdelgd van voor Mijn aangezicht. 20Gaat uit van Babel, vliedt van de Chaldeen, verkondigt met de stemme des gejuichs, doet zulks horen, brengt het uit tot aan het einde der aarde, zegt: De HEERE heeft Zijn knecht Jakob verlost! 21En: Zij hadden geen dorst, toen Hij hen leidde door de woeste plaatsen; Hij deed hun water uit den rotssteen vlieten; als Hij den rotssteen kliefde, zo vloeiden de wateren daarhenen. 22Maar de goddelozen hebben geen vrede, zegt de HEERE.
