1Lorsque Jérusalem fut prise, - la neuvième année de Sédécias, roi de Juda, le dixième mois, Nebucadnetsar, roi de Babylone, vint avec toute son armée devant Jérusalem, et en fit le siège ; 2la onzième année de Sédécias, le neuvième jour du quatrième mois, la brèche fut faite à la ville, - 3tous les chefs du roi de Babylone s’avancèrent, et occupèrent la porte du milieu : Nergal-Scharetser, Samgar-Nebu, Sarsekim, chef des eunuques, Nergal-Scharetser, chef des mages, et tous les autres chefs du roi de Babylone. 4Dès que Sédécias, roi de Juda, et tous les gens de guerre les eurent vus, ils s’enfuirent, et sortirent de la ville pendant la nuit par le chemin du jardin du roi, par la porte entre les deux murs, et ils prirent le chemin de la plaine. 5Mais l’armée des Chaldéens les poursuivit, et atteignit Sédécias dans les plaines de Jéricho. Ils le prirent, et le firent monter vers Nebucadnetsar, roi de Babylone, à Ribla, dans le pays de Hamath ; et il prononça contre lui une sentence. 6Le roi de Babylone fit égorger à Ribla les fils de Sédécias en sa présence ; le roi de Babylone fit aussi égorger tous les grands de Juda. 7Puis il fit crever les yeux à Sédécias, et le fit lier avec des chaînes d’airain, pour l’emmener à Babylone. 8Les Chaldéens brûlèrent par le feu la maison du roi et les maisons du peuple, et ils démolirent les murailles de Jérusalem. 9Nebuzaradan, chef des gardes, emmena captifs à Babylone ceux du peuple qui étaient demeurés dans la ville, ceux qui s’étaient rendus à lui, et le reste du peuple. 10Mais Nebuzaradan, chef des gardes, laissa dans le pays de Juda quelques-uns des plus pauvres du peuple, ceux qui n’avaient rien ; et il leur donna alors des vignes et des champs. 11Nebucadnetsar, roi de Babylone, avait donné cet ordre au sujet de Jérémie par Nebuzaradan, chef des gardes : 12Prends-le, et veille sur lui ; ne lui fais aucun mal, mais agis à son égard comme il te dira. 13Nebuzaradan, chef des gardes, Nebuschazban, chef des eunuques, Nergal-Scharetser, chef des mages, et tous les chefs du roi de Babylone, 14envoyèrent chercher Jérémie dans la cour de la prison, et ils le remirent à Guedalia, fils d’Achikam, fils de Schaphan, pour qu’il fût conduit dans sa maison. Et il resta au milieu du peuple. 15La parole de l’Éternel fut adressée à Jérémie en ces mots, pendant qu’il était enfermé dans la cour de la prison : 16Va, parle à Ébed-Mélec, l’Éthiopien, et dis-lui : Ainsi parle l’Éternel des armées, le Dieu d’Israël : Voici, je vais faire venir sur cette ville les choses que j’ai annoncées pour le mal et non pour le bien ; elles arriveront en ce jour devant toi. 17Mais en ce jour je te délivrerai, dit l’Éternel, et tu ne seras pas livré entre les mains des hommes que tu crains. 18Je te sauverai, et tu ne tomberas pas sous l’épée ; ta vie sera ton butin, parce que tu as eu confiance en moi, dit l’Éternel.
1When Jerusalem was taken, (in the ninth year of Zedekiah king of Judah, in the tenth month, came Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon and all his army against Jerusalem, and besieged it; 2in the eleventh year of Zedekiah, in the fourth month, the ninth day of the month, a breach was made in the city), 3all the princes of the king of Babylon came in, and sat in the middle gate, Nergal Sharezer, Samgarnebo, Sarsechim, Rabsaris, Nergal Sharezer, Rabmag, with all the rest of the princes of the king of Babylon. 4When Zedekiah the king of Judah and all the men of war saw them, then they fled, and went out of the city by night, by the way of the king’s garden, through the gate between the two walls; and he went out toward the Arabah. 5But the army of the Chaldeans pursued after them, and overtook Zedekiah in the plains of Jericho: and when they had taken him, they brought him up to Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon to Riblah in the land of Hamath; and he gave judgment on him. 6Then the king of Babylon killed the sons of Zedekiah in Riblah before his eyes: also the king of Babylon killed all the nobles of Judah. 7Moreover he put out Zedekiah’s eyes, and bound him in fetters, to carry him to Babylon. 8The Chaldeans burned the king’s house, and the houses of the people, with fire, and broke down the walls of Jerusalem. 9Then Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard carried away captive into Babylon the residue of the people who remained in the city, the deserters also who fell away to him, and the residue of the people who remained. 10But Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard left of the poor of the people, who had nothing, in the land of Judah, and gave them vineyards and fields at the same time. 11Now Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon commanded Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard concerning Jeremiah, saying, 12Take him, and look well to him, and do him no harm; but do to him even as he shall tell you. 13So Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard sent, and Nebushazban, Rabsaris, and Nergal Sharezer, Rabmag, and all the chief officers of the king of Babylon; 14they sent, and took Jeremiah out of the court of the guard, and committed him to Gedaliah the son of Ahikam, the son of Shaphan, that he should carry him home: so he lived among the people. 15Now Yahweh’s word came to Jeremiah, while he was shut up in the court of the guard, saying, 16Go, and speak to Ebedmelech the Ethiopian, saying, Thus says Yahweh of Armies, the God of Israel: Behold, I will bring my words on this city for evil, and not for good; and they shall be accomplished before you in that day. 17But I will deliver you in that day, says Yahweh; and you shall not be given into the hand of the men of whom you are afraid. 18For I will surely save you, and you shall not fall by the sword, but your life shall be for a prey to you; because you have put your trust in me, says Yahweh.
1In het negende jaar van Zedekia, koning van Juda, in de tiende maand, kwam Nebukadrezar, de koning van Babel, en al zijn heir, tegen Jeruzalem, en zij belegerden haar. 2In het elfde jaar van Zedekia, in de vierde maand, op den negenden der maand, werd de stad doorgebroken. 3En alle vorsten des konings van Babel togen henen in, en hielden bij de middelste poort; namelijk Nergal-Sarezer Samgar-Nebu, Sarsechim Rab-Saris, Nergal-Sarezer Rab-Mag, en al de overige vorsten des konings van Babel. 4En het geschiedde, als Zedekia, de koning van Juda, en al de krijgslieden hen zagen, zo vloden zij, en togen bij nacht uit de stad, door den weg van des konings hof, door de poort tussen de twee muren; en hij toog uit door den weg des vlakken velds. 5Doch het heir der Chaldeen jaagde hen achterna; en zij achterhaalden Zedekia in de vlakke velden van Jericho, en vingen hem, en brachten hem opwaarts tot Nebukadrezar, den koning van Babel, naar Ribla, in het land van Hamath; die sprak oordelen tegen hem uit. 6En de koning van Babel slachtte de zonen van Zedekia te Ribla voor zijn ogen; ook slachtte de koning van Babel alle edelen van Juda. 7En hij verblindde de ogen van Zedekia, en bond hem met twee koperen ketenen, om hem naar Babel te voeren. 8En de Chaldeen verbrandden het huis des konings en de huizen des volks met vuur; en zij braken de muren van Jeruzalem af. 9Het overige nu des volks, die in de stad waren overgebleven, en de afvalligen, die tot hem gevallen waren, met het overige des volks, die overgebleven waren, voerde Nebuzaradan, de overste der trawanten, gevankelijk naar Babel. 10Maar van het volk, die arm waren, die niet met al hadden, liet Nebuzaradan, de overste der trawanten, enigen overig in het land van Juda; en hij gaf hun te dien dage wijngaarden en akkers. 11Maar van Jeremia had Nebukadrezar, de koning van Babel, bevel gegeven in de hand van Nebuzaradan, den overste der trawanten, zeggende: 12Neem hem, en stel uw ogen op hem, en doe hem niets kwaads; maar gelijk als hij tot u spreken zal, doe alzo met hem. 13Zo zond Nebuzaradan, de overste der trawanten, mitsgaders Nebusazban Rab-Saris en Nergal-Sarezer Rab-Mag, en al de oversten des konings van Babel; 14Zij zonden dan henen en namen Jeremia uit het voorhof der bewaring, en gaven hem over aan Gedalia, den zoon van Ahikam, den zoon van Safan, dat hij hem henen uitbracht naar huis; alzo bleef hij in het midden des volks. 15Het woord des HEEREN was ook tot Jeremia geschied, als hij in het voorhof der bewaring besloten was, zeggende: 16Ge henen, en spreek tot Ebed-melech, den Moorman, zeggende: Zo zegt de HEERE der heirscharen, de God Israels: Zie, Ik zal Mijn woorden brengen over deze stad, ten kwade en niet ten goede; en zij zullen te dien dage voor uw aangezicht zijn. 17Maar Ik zal u te dien dage redden, spreekt de HEERE; en gij zult niet overgegeven worden in de hand der mannen, voor welker aangezicht gij vreest. 18Want Ik zal u zekerlijk bevrijden, en gij zult door het zwaard niet vallen; maar gij zult uw ziel tot een buit hebben, omdat gij op Mij vertrouwd hebt, spreekt de HEERE.
