1En ce temps-là, dit l’Éternel, Je serai le Dieu de toutes les familles d’Israël, Et ils seront mon peuple. 2Ainsi parle l’Éternel : Il a trouvé grâce dans le désert, Le peuple de ceux qui ont échappé au glaive ; Israël marche vers son lieu de repos. 3De loin l’Éternel se montre à moi : Je t’aime d’un amour éternel ; C’est pourquoi je te conserve ma bonté. 4Je te rétablirai encore, et tu seras rétablie, Vierge d’Israël ! Tu auras encore tes tambourins pour parure, Et tu sortiras au milieu des danses joyeuses. 5Tu planteras encore des vignes sur les montagnes de Samarie ; Les planteurs planteront, et cueilleront les fruits. 6Car le jour vient où les gardes crieront sur la montagne d’Éphraïm : Levez-vous, montons à Sion, vers l’Éternel, notre Dieu ! 7Car ainsi parle l’Éternel : Poussez des cris de joie sur Jacob, Éclatez d’allégresse à la tête des nations ! Élevez vos voix, chantez des louanges, et dites : Éternel, délivre ton peuple, le reste d’Israël ! 8Voici, je les ramène du pays du septentrion, Je les rassemble des extrémités de la terre ; Parmi eux sont l’aveugle et le boiteux, La femme enceinte et celle en travail ; C’est une grande multitude, qui revient ici. 9Ils viennent en pleurant, et je les conduis au milieu de leurs supplications ; Je les mène vers des torrents d’eau, Par un chemin uni où ils ne chancellent pas ; Car je suis un père pour Israël, Et Éphraïm est mon premier-né. 10Nations, écoutez la parole de l’Éternel, Et publiez-la dans les îles lointaines ! Dites : Celui qui a dispersé Israël le rassemblera, Et il le gardera comme le berger garde son troupeau. 11Car l’Éternel rachète Jacob, Il le délivre de la main d’un plus fort que lui. 12Ils viendront, et pousseront des cris de joie sur les hauteurs de Sion ; Ils accourront vers les biens de l’Éternel, Le blé, le moût, l’huile, Les brebis et les bœufs ; Leur âme sera comme un jardin arrosé, Et ils ne seront plus dans la souffrance. 13Alors les jeunes filles se réjouiront à la danse, Les jeunes hommes et les vieillards se réjouiront aussi ; Je changerai leur deuil en allégresse, et je les consolerai ; Je leur donnerai de la joie après leurs chagrins. 14Je rassasierai de graisse l’âme des sacrificateurs, Et mon peuple se rassasiera de mes biens, dit l’Éternel. 15Ainsi parle l’Éternel : On entend des cris à Rama, Des lamentations, des larmes amères ; Rachel pleure ses enfants ; Elle refuse d’être consolée sur ses enfants, Car ils ne sont plus. 16Ainsi parle l’Éternel : Retiens tes pleurs, Retiens les larmes de tes yeux ; Car il y aura un salaire pour tes œuvres, dit l’Éternel ; Ils reviendront du pays de l’ennemi. 17Il y a de l’espérance pour ton avenir, dit l’Éternel ; Tes enfants reviendront dans leur territoire. 18J’entends Éphraïm qui se lamente : Tu m’as châtié, et j’ai été châtié Comme un veau qui n’est pas dompté ; Fais-moi revenir, et je reviendrai, Car tu es l’Éternel, mon Dieu. 19Après m’être détourné, j’éprouve du repentir ; Et après avoir reconnu mes fautes, je frappe sur ma cuisse ; Je suis honteux et confus, Car je porte l’opprobre de ma jeunesse. - 20Éphraïm est-il donc pour moi un fils chéri, Un enfant qui fait mes délices ? Car plus je parle de lui, plus encore son souvenir est en moi ; Aussi mes entrailles sont émues en sa faveur : J’aurai pitié de lui, dit l’Éternel. - 21Dresse des signes, place des poteaux, Prends garde à la route, au chemin que tu as suivi… Reviens, vierge d’Israël, Reviens dans ces villes qui sont à toi ! 22Jusques à quand seras-tu errante, Fille égarée ? Car l’Éternel crée une chose nouvelle sur la terre : La femme recherchera l’homme. 23Ainsi parle l’Éternel des armées, le Dieu d’Israël : Voici encore ce que l’on dira dans le pays de Juda et dans ses villes, Quand j’aurai ramené leurs captifs : Que l’Éternel te bénisse, demeure de la justice, Montagne sainte ! 24Là s’établiront Juda et toutes ses villes, Les laboureurs et ceux qui conduisent les troupeaux. 25Car je rafraîchirai l’âme altérée, Et je rassasierai toute âme languissante. 26Là-dessus je me suis réveillé, et j’ai regardé ; Mon sommeil m’avait été agréable. 27Voici, les jours viennent, dit l’Éternel, Où j’ensemencerai la maison d’Israël et la maison de Juda D’une semence d’hommes et d’une semence de bêtes. 28Et comme j’ai veillé sur eux Pour arracher, abattre, détruire, ruiner et faire du mal, Ainsi je veillerai sur eux pour bâtir et pour planter, Dit l’Éternel. 29En ces jours-là, on ne dira plus : Les pères ont mangé des raisins verts, Et les dents des enfants en ont été agacées. 30Mais chacun mourra pour sa propre iniquité ; Tout homme qui mangera des raisins verts, Ses dents en seront agacées. 31Voici, les jours viennent, dit l’Éternel, Où je ferai avec la maison d’Israël et la maison de Juda Une alliance nouvelle, 32Non comme l’alliance que je traitai avec leurs pères, Le jour où je les saisis par la main Pour les faire sortir du pays d’Égypte, Alliance qu’ils ont violée, Quoique je fusse leur maître, dit l’Éternel. 33Mais voici l’alliance que je ferai avec la maison d’Israël, Après ces jours-là, dit l’Éternel : Je mettrai ma loi au dedans d’eux, Je l’écrirai dans leur cœur ; Et je serai leur Dieu, Et ils seront mon peuple. 34Celui-ci n’enseignera plus son prochain, Ni celui-là son frère, en disant : Connaissez l’Éternel ! Car tous me connaîtront, Depuis le plus petit jusqu’au plus grand, dit l’Éternel ; Car je pardonnerai leur iniquité, Et je ne me souviendrai plus de leur péché. 35Ainsi parle l’Éternel, qui a fait le soleil pour éclairer le jour, Qui a destiné la lune et les étoiles à éclairer la nuit, Qui soulève la mer et fait mugir ses flots, Lui dont le nom est l’Éternel des armées : 36Si ces lois viennent à cesser devant moi, dit l’Éternel, La race d’Israël aussi cessera pour toujours d’être une nation devant moi. 37Ainsi parle l’Éternel : Si les cieux en haut peuvent être mesurés, Si les fondements de la terre en bas peuvent être sondés, Alors je rejetterai toute la race d’Israël, À cause de tout ce qu’ils ont fait, dit l’Éternel. 38Voici, les jours viennent, dit l’Éternel, Où la ville sera rebâtie à l’honneur de l’Éternel, Depuis la tour de Hananeel jusqu’à la porte de l’angle. 39Le cordeau s’étendra encore vis-à-vis, Jusqu’à la colline de Gareb, Et fera un circuit du côté de Goath. 40Toute la vallée des cadavres et de la cendre, Et tous les champs jusqu’au torrent de Cédron, Jusqu’à l’angle de la porte des chevaux à l’orient, Seront consacrés à l’Éternel, Et ne seront plus à jamais ni renversés ni détruits.
1At that time, says Yahweh, will I be the God of all the families of Israel, and they shall be my people. 2Thus says Yahweh, The people who were left of the sword found favor in the wilderness; even Israel, when I went to cause him to rest. 3Yahweh appeared of old to me, saying, Yes, I have loved you with an everlasting love: therefore with loving kindness have I drawn you. 4Again will I build you, and you shall be built, O virgin of Israel: again you shall be adorned with your tambourines, and shall go out in the dances of those who make merry. 5Again you shall plant vineyards on the mountains of Samaria; the planters shall plant, and shall enjoy its fruit. 6For there shall be a day, that the watchmen on the hills of Ephraim shall cry, Arise, and let us go up to Zion to Yahweh our God. 7For thus says Yahweh, Sing with gladness for Jacob, and shout for the chief of the nations: publish, praise, and say, Yahweh, save your people, the remnant of Israel. 8Behold, I will bring them from the north country, and gather them from the uttermost parts of the earth, along with the blind and the lame, the woman with child and her who travails with child together: a great company shall they return here. 9They shall come with weeping; and with petitions will I lead them: I will cause them to walk by rivers of waters, in a straight way in which they shall not stumble; for I am a father to Israel, and Ephraim is my firstborn. 10Hear Yahweh’s word, you nations, and declare it in the islands afar off; and say, He who scattered Israel will gather him, and keep him, as a shepherd does his flock. 11For Yahweh has ransomed Jacob, and redeemed him from the hand of him who was stronger than he. 12They shall come and sing in the height of Zion, and shall flow to the goodness of Yahweh, to the grain, and to the new wine, and to the oil, and to the young of the flock and of the herd: and their soul shall be as a watered garden; and they shall not sorrow any more at all. 13Then shall the virgin rejoice in the dance, and the young men and the old together; for I will turn their mourning into joy, and will comfort them, and make them rejoice from their sorrow. 14I will satiate the soul of the priests with fatness, and my people shall be satisfied with my goodness, says Yahweh. 15Thus says Yahweh: A voice is heard in Ramah, lamentation, and bitter weeping, Rachel weeping for her children; she refuses to be comforted for her children, because they are no more. 16Thus says Yahweh: Refrain your voice from weeping, and your eyes from tears; for your work shall be rewarded, says Yahweh; and they shall come again from the land of the enemy. 17There is hope for your latter end, says Yahweh; and your children shall come again to their own border. 18I have surely heard Ephraim bemoaning himself thus, You have chastised me, and I was chastised, as an untrained calf: turn me, and I shall be turned; for you are Yahweh my God. 19Surely after that I was turned, I repented; and after that I was instructed, I struck on my thigh: I was ashamed, yes, even confounded, because I bore the reproach of my youth. 20Is Ephraim my dear son? is he a darling child? for as often as I speak against him, I do earnestly remember him still: therefore my heart yearns for him; I will surely have mercy on him, says Yahweh. 21Set up road signs, make guideposts; set your heart toward the highway, even the way by which you went: turn again, virgin of Israel, turn again to these your cities. 22How long will you go here and there, you backsliding daughter? for Yahweh has created a new thing in the earth: a woman shall encompass a man. 23Thus says Yahweh of Armies, the God of Israel, Yet again shall they use this speech in the land of Judah and in its cities, when I shall bring again their captivity: Yahweh bless you, habitation of righteousness, mountain of holiness. 24Judah and all its cities shall dwell therein together, the farmers, and those who go about with flocks. 25For I have satiated the weary soul, and every sorrowful soul have I replenished. 26On this I awakened, and saw; and my sleep was sweet to me. 27Behold, the days come, says Yahweh, that I will sow the house of Israel and the house of Judah with the seed of man, and with the seed of animal. 28It shall happen that, like as I have watched over them to pluck up and to break down and to overthrow and to destroy and to afflict, so will I watch over them to build and to plant, says Yahweh. 29In those days they shall say no more, The fathers have eaten sour grapes, and the children’s teeth are set on edge. 30But everyone shall die for his own iniquity: every man who eats the sour grapes, his teeth shall be set on edge. 31Behold, the days come, says Yahweh, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah: 32not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; which my covenant they broke, although I was a husband to them, says Yahweh. 33But this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says Yahweh: I will put my law in their inward parts, and in their heart will I write it; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people: 34and they shall teach no more every man his neighbor, and every man his brother, saying, Know Yahweh; for they shall all know me, from their least to their greatest, says Yahweh: for I will forgive their iniquity, and their sin will I remember no more. 35Thus says Yahweh, who gives the sun for a light by day, and the ordinances of the moon and of the stars for a light by night, who stirs up the sea, so that its waves roar; Yahweh of Armies is his name: 36If these ordinances depart from before me, says Yahweh, then the seed of Israel also shall cease from being a nation before me forever. 37Thus says Yahweh: If heaven above can be measured, and the foundations of the earth searched out beneath, then I will also cast off all the seed of Israel for all that they have done, says Yahweh. 38Behold, the days come, says Yahweh, that the city shall be built to Yahweh from the tower of Hananel to the gate of the corner. 39The measuring line shall go out further straight onward to the hill Gareb, and shall turn about to Goah. 40The whole valley of the dead bodies and of the ashes, and all the fields to the brook Kidron, to the corner of the horse gate toward the east, shall be holy to Yahweh; it shall not be plucked up, nor thrown down any more forever.

Ja, Ik heb u liefgehad met een eeuwige liefde; daarom heb Ik u getrokken met goedertierenheid. 4Ik zal u weder bouwen, en gij zult gebouwd worden, o jonkvrouw Israels! gij zult weder versierd zijn met uw trommelen, en uitgaan met den rei der spelenden. 5Gij zult weder wijngaarden planten op de bergen van Samaria; de planters zullen planten, en de vrucht genieten. 6Want er zal een dag zijn, waarin de hoeders op Efraims gebergte zullen roepen: Maakt ulieden op, en laat ons opgaan naar Sion, tot den HEERE, onzen God! 7Want zo zegt de HEERE: Roept luide over Jakob met vreugde, en juicht vanwege het hoofd der heidenen; doet het horen, lofzingt, en zegt: O HEERE! behoud Uw volk, het overblijfsel van Israel. 8Ziet, Ik zal ze aanbrengen uit het land van het noorden, en zal hen vergaderen van de zijden der aarde; onder hen zullen zijn blinden en lammen, zwangeren en barenden te zamen; met een grote gemeente zullen zij herwaarts wederkomen. 9Zij zullen komen met geween, en met smekingen zal Ik hen voeren; Ik zal hen leiden aan de waterbeken, in een rechten weg, waarin zij zich niet zullen stoten; want Ik ben Israel tot een Vader, en Efraim is Mijn eerstgeborene. 10Hoort des HEEREN woord, gij heidenen! en verkondigt in de eilanden, die verre zijn, en zegt: Hij, Die Israel verstrooid heeft, zal hem weder vergaderen, en hem bewaren als een herder zijn kudde. 11Want de HEERE heeft Jakob vrijgekocht, en Hij heeft hem verlost uit de hand desgenen, die sterker was dan hij. 12Dies zullen zij komen, en op de hoogte van Sion juichen, en toevloeien tot des HEEREN goed, tot het koren, en tot den most, en tot de olie, en tot de jonge schapen en runderen; en hun ziel zal zijn als een gewaterde hof, en zij zullen voortaan niet meer treurig zijn. 13Dan zal zich de jonkvrouw verblijden in den rei, daartoe de jongelingen en ouden te zamen; want Ik zal hunlieder rouw in vrolijkheid veranderen, en zal hen troosten, en zal hen verblijden naar hun droefenis. 14En Ik zal de ziel der priesteren met vettigheid dronken maken; en Mijn volk zal met Mijn goed verzadigd worden, spreekt de HEERE. 15Zo zegt de HEERE: Er is een stem gehoord in Rama, een klage, een zeer bitter geween; Rachel weent over haar kinderen; zij weigert zich te laten troosten over haar kinderen, omdat zij niet zijn. 16Zo zegt de HEERE: Bedwing uw stem van geween, en uw ogen van tranen; want er is loon voor uw arbeid, spreekt de HEERE; want zij zullen uit des vijands land wederkomen. 17En er is verwachting voor uw nakomelingen, spreekt de HEERE; want uw kinderen zullen wederkomen tot hun landpale. 18Ik heb wel gehoord, dat zich Efraim beklaagt, zeggende: Gij hebt mij getuchtigd, en ik ben getuchtigd geworden als een ongewend kalf. Bekeer mij, zo zal ik bekeerd zijn, want Gij zijt de HEERE, mijn God! 19Zekerlijk, nadat ik bekeerd ben, heb ik berouw gehad, en nadat ik mijzelven ben bekend gemaakt, heb ik op de heup geklopt, ik ben beschaamd, ja, ook schaamrood geworden, omdat ik de smaadheid mijner jeugd gedragen heb. 20Is niet Efraim Mij een dierbare zoon, is hij Mij niet een troetelkind? Want sinds Ik tegen hem gesproken heb, denk Ik nog ernstelijk aan hem; daarom rommelt Mijn ingewand over hem; Ik zal Mij zijner zekerlijk ontfermen, spreekt de HEERE. 21Richt u merktekenen op, stel u spitse pilaren, zet uw hart op de baan, op den weg, dien gij gewandeld hebt; keer weder, o jonkvrouw Israels, keer weder tot deze uw steden! 22Hoe lang zult gij u onttrekken, gij afkerige dochter? Want de HEERE heeft wat nieuws op de aarde geschapen: de vrouw zal den man omvangen. 23Zo zegt de HEERE der heirscharen, de God Israels: Dit woord zullen zij nog zeggen in het land van Juda, en in zijn steden, als Ik hun gevangenis wenden zal: De HEERE zegene u, gij woning der gerechtigheid, gij berg der heiligheid! 24En Juda, mitsgaders al zijn steden, zullen te zamen daarin wonen; de akkerlieden, en die met de kudde reizen. 25Want Ik heb de vermoeide ziel dronken gemaakt, en Ik heb alle treurige ziel vervuld. 26(Hierop ontwaakte ik, en zag toe, en mijn slaap was mij zoet.) 27Ziet, de dagen komen, spreekt de HEERE, dat Ik het huis van Israel en het huis van Juda bezaaien zal met zaad van mensen en zaad van beesten. 28En het zal geschieden, gelijk als Ik over hen gewaakt heb, om uit te rukken, en af te breken, en te verstoren, en te verderven, en kwaad aan te doen; alzo zal Ik over hen waken, om te bouwen en te planten, spreekt de HEERE. 29In die dagen zullen zij niet meer zeggen: De vaders hebben onrijpe druiven gegeten, en der kinderen tanden zijn stomp geworden. 30Maar een iegelijk zal om zijn ongerechtigheid sterven; een ieder mens, die de onrijpe druiven eet, zijn tanden zullen stomp worden. 31Ziet, de dagen komen, spreekt de HEERE, dat Ik met het huis van Israel en met het huis van Juda een nieuw verbond zal maken; 32Niet naar het verbond, dat Ik met hun vaderen gemaakt heb, ten dage als Ik hun hand aangreep, om hen uit Egypteland uit te voeren, welk Mijn verbond zij vernietigd hebben, hoewel Ik hen getrouwd had, spreekt de HEERE; 33Maar dit is het verbond, dat Ik na die dagen met het huis van Israel maken zal, spreekt de HEERE: Ik zal Mijn wet in hun binnenste geven, en zal die in hun hart schrijven; en Ik zal hun tot een God zijn, en zij zullen Mij tot een volk zijn. 34En zij zullen niet meer, een iegelijk zijn naaste, en een iegelijk zijn broeder, leren, zeggende: Kent den HEERE! want zij zullen Mij allen kennen, van hun kleinste af tot hun grootste toe, spreekt de HEERE; want Ik zal hun ongerechtigheid vergeven, en hunner zonden niet meer gedenken. 35Zo zegt de HEERE, Die de zon ten lichte geeft des daags, de ordeningen der maan en der sterren ten lichte des nachts, Die de zee klieft, dat haar golven bruisen, HEERE der heirscharen is Zijn Naam: 36Indien deze ordeningen van voor Mijn aangezicht zullen wijken, spreekt de HEERE, zo zal ook het zaad Israels ophouden, dat het geen volk zij voor Mijn aangezicht, al de dagen. 37Zo zegt de HEERE: Indien de hemelen daarboven gemeten, en de fondamenten der aarde beneden doorgrond kunnen worden, zo zal Ik ook het ganse zaad Israels verwerpen, om alles, wat zij gedaan hebben, spreekt de HEERE. 38Ziet, de dagen komen, spreekt de HEERE, dat deze stad den HEERE zal herbouwd worden, van den toren Hananeel af tot aan de Hoekpoort. 39En het meetsnoer zal wijders nevens dezelve uitgaan tot aan den heuvel Gareb, en zich naar Goath omwenden. 40En het ganse dal der dode lichamen en der as, en al de velden tot aan de beek Kidron, tot aan den hoek van de Paardenpoort tegen het oosten, zal den HEERE een heiligheid zijn; er zal niets weder uitgerukt, noch afgebroken worden in eeuwigheid.
