1La parole qui fut adressée à Jérémie de la part de l’Éternel, lorsque le roi Sédécias lui envoya Paschhur, fils de Malkija, et Sophonie, fils de Maaséja, le sacrificateur, pour lui dire : 2Consulte pour nous l’Éternel ; car Nebucadnetsar, roi de Babylone, nous fait la guerre ; peut-être l’Éternel fera-t-il en notre faveur quelqu’un de ses miracles, afin qu’il s’éloigne de nous. 3Jérémie leur répondit : Vous direz à Sédécias : 4Ainsi parle l’Éternel, le Dieu d’Israël : Voici, je vais détourner les armes de guerre qui sont dans vos mains, et avec lesquelles vous combattez en dehors des murailles le roi de Babylone et les Chaldéens qui vous assiègent, et je les rassemblerai au milieu de cette ville. 5Puis je combattrai contre vous, la main étendue et le bras fort, avec colère, avec fureur, avec une grande irritation. 6Je frapperai les habitants de cette ville, les hommes et les bêtes ; ils mourront d’une peste affreuse. 7Après cela, dit l’Éternel, je livrerai Sédécias, roi de Juda, ses serviteurs, le peuple, et ceux qui dans cette ville échapperont à la peste, à l’épée et à la famine, je les livrerai entre les mains de Nebucadnetsar, roi de Babylone, entre les mains de leurs ennemis, entre les mains de ceux qui en veulent à leur vie ; et Nebucadnetsar les frappera du tranchant de l’épée, il ne les épargnera pas, il n’aura point de pitié, point de compassion. 8Tu diras à ce peuple : Ainsi parle l’Éternel : Voici, je mets devant vous le chemin de la vie et le chemin de la mort. 9Celui qui restera dans cette ville mourra par l’épée, par la famine ou par la peste ; mais celui qui sortira pour se rendre aux Chaldéens qui vous assiègent aura la vie sauve, et sa vie sera son butin. 10Car je dirige mes regards contre cette ville pour faire du mal et non du bien, dit l’Éternel ; elle sera livrée entre les mains du roi de Babylone, qui la brûlera par le feu. 11Et tu diras à la maison du roi de Juda : Écoutez la parole de l’Éternel ! 12Maison de David ! Ainsi parle l’Éternel : Rendez la justice dès le matin, Et délivrez l’opprimé des mains de l’oppresseur, De peur que ma colère n’éclate comme un feu, Et ne s’enflamme, sans qu’on puisse l’éteindre, À cause de la méchanceté de vos actions. 13Voici, j’en veux à toi, Ville assise dans la vallée, sur le rocher de la plaine, Dit l’Éternel, À vous qui dites : Qui descendra contre nous ? Qui entrera dans nos demeures ? 14Je vous châtierai selon le fruit de vos œuvres, dit l’Éternel ; Je mettrai le feu à votre forêt, Et il en dévorera tous les alentours.
1The word which came to Jeremiah from Yahweh, when king Zedekiah sent to him Pashhur the son of Malchijah, and Zephaniah the son of Maaseiah, the priest, saying, 2Please inquire of Yahweh for us; for Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon makes war against us: perhaps Yahweh will deal with us according to all his wondrous works, that he may go up from us. 3Then Jeremiah said to them, You shall tell Zedekiah: 4Thus says Yahweh, the God of Israel, Behold, I will turn back the weapons of war that are in your hands, with which you fight against the king of Babylon, and against the Chaldeans who besiege you, without the walls; and I will gather them into the midst of this city. 5I myself will fight against you with an outstretched hand and with a strong arm, even in anger, and in wrath, and in great indignation. 6I will strike the inhabitants of this city, both man and animal: they shall die of a great pestilence. 7Afterward, says Yahweh, I will deliver Zedekiah king of Judah, and his servants, and the people, even such as are left in this city from the pestilence, from the sword, and from the famine, into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, and into the hand of their enemies, and into the hand of those who seek their life: and he shall strike them with the edge of the sword; he shall not spare them, neither have pity, nor have mercy. 8To this people you shall say, Thus says Yahweh: Behold, I set before you the way of life and the way of death. 9He who remains in this city shall die by the sword, and by the famine, and by the pestilence; but he who goes out, and passes over to the Chaldeans who besiege you, he shall live, and his life shall be to him for a prey. 10For I have set my face on this city for evil, and not for good, says Yahweh: it shall be given into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he shall burn it with fire. 11Touching the house of the king of Judah, hear Yahweh’s word: 12House of David, thus says Yahweh, Execute justice in the morning, and deliver him who is robbed out of the hand of the oppressor, lest my wrath go out like fire, and burn so that no one can quench it, because of the evil of your doings. 13Behold, I am against you, O inhabitant of the valley, and of the rock of the plain, says Yahweh; you that say, Who shall come down against us? or who shall enter into our habitations? 14I will punish you according to the fruit of your doings, says Yahweh; and I will kindle a fire in her forest, and it shall devour all that is around her.
1Het woord, dat van den HEERE geschied is tot Jeremia, als koning Zekekia tot hem zond Pashur, den zoon van Malchia, en Zefanja, den zoon van Maaseja, den priester, zeggende: 2Vraag toch den HEERE voor ons, want Nebukadrezar, de koning van Babel, strijdt tegen ons; misschien zal de HEERE met ons doen naar al Zijn wonderen, dat hij van ons optrekke. 3Toen zeide Jeremia tot hen: Zo zult gijlieden tot Zedekia zeggen: 4Zo zegt de HEERE, de God Israels: Ziet, Ik zal de krijgswapenen omwenden, die in ulieder hand zijn, met dewelke gij strijdt tegen den koning van Babel en tegen de Chaldeen, die u belegeren, van buiten aan den muur; en Ik zal ze verzamelen in het midden van deze stad. 5En Ik Zelf zal tegen ulieden strijden, met een uitgestrekte hand en met een sterken arm, ja, met toorn, en met grimmigheid, en met grote verbolgenheid. 6En Ik zal de inwoners dezer stad slaan, zowel de mensen als de beesten; door een grote pestilentie zullen zij sterven. 7En daarna, spreekt de HEERE, zal Ik Zedekia, den koning van Juda, en zijn knechten, en het volk, en die in deze stad overgebleven zijn, van de pestilentie, van het zwaard en van den honger, geven in de hand van Nebukadrezar, den koning van Babel, en in de hand hunner vijanden, en in de hand dergenen, die hun ziel zoeken; en hij zal ze slaan met de scherpte des zwaards; hij zal ze niet sparen, noch verschonen, noch zich ontfermen. 8En tot dit volk zult gij zeggen: Zo zegt de HEERE: Ziet, Ik stel voor ulieder aangezicht den weg des levens en den weg des doods. 9Die in deze stad blijft, zal sterven door het zwaard, of door den honger, of door de pestilentie; maar die er uitgaat en valt tot de Chaldeen, die ulieden belegeren, die zal leven, en zijn ziel zal hem tot een buit zijn. 10Want Ik heb Mijn aangezicht tegen deze stad gesteld ten kwade en niet ten goede, spreekt de HEERE; zij zal gegeven worden in de hand des konings van Babel, en hij zal ze met vuur verbranden. 11En aangaande het huis des konings van Juda, hoort des HEEREN woord. 12O huis Davids! zo zegt de HEERE: Richt des morgens recht, en verlost den beroofde uit den hand des verdrukkers; opdat Mijn gramschap niet uitvare als een vuur, en brande, dat niemand blussen kunne, vanwege de boosheid uwer handelingen. 13Ziet, Ik wil aan u, gij inwoneres des dals, gij rots van het plein! spreekt de HEERE; gijlieden, die zegt: Wie zou tegen ons afkomen, of wie zou komen in onze woningen? 14En Ik zal over ulieden bezoeking doen naar de vrucht uwer handelingen, spreekt de HEERE; en Ik zal een vuur aansteken in haar woud, dat zal verteren al wat rondom haar is.
