1La parole fut adressée à Jérémie de la part de l’Éternel, au temps de Jojakim, fils de Josias, roi de Juda, en ces mots : 2Va à la maison des Récabites, et parle-leur ; tu les conduiras à la maison de l’Éternel, dans une des chambres, et tu leur offriras du vin à boire. 3Je pris Jaazania, fils de Jérémie, fils de Habazinia, ses frères, tous ses fils, et toute la maison des Récabites, 4et je les conduisis à la maison de l’Éternel, dans la chambre des fils de Hanan, fils de Jigdalia, homme de Dieu, près de la chambre des chefs, au-dessus de la chambre de Maaséja, fils de Schallum, garde du seuil. 5Je mis devant les fils de la maison des Récabites des coupes pleines de vin, et des calices, et je leur dis : Buvez du vin ! 6Mais ils répondirent : Nous ne buvons pas de vin ; car Jonadab, fils de Récab, notre père, nous a donné cet ordre : Vous ne boirez jamais de vin, ni vous, ni vos fils ; 7et vous ne bâtirez point de maisons, vous ne sèmerez aucune semence, vous ne planterez point de vignes et vous n’en posséderez point ; mais vous habiterez sous des tentes toute votre vie, afin que vous viviez longtemps dans le pays où vous êtes étrangers. 8Nous obéissons à tout ce que nous a prescrit Jonadab, fils de Récab, notre père : nous ne buvons pas de vin pendant toute notre vie, nous, nos femmes, nos fils et nos filles ; 9nous ne bâtissons point de maisons pour nos demeures, et nous ne possédons ni vignes, ni champs, ni terres ensemencées ; 10nous habitons sous des tentes, et nous suivons et pratiquons tout ce que nous a prescrit Jonadab, notre père. 11Lorsque Nebucadnetsar, roi de Babylone, est monté contre ce pays, nous avons dit : Allons, retirons-nous à Jérusalem, loin de l’armée des Chaldéens et de l’armée de Syrie. C’est ainsi que nous habitons à Jérusalem. 12Alors la parole de l’Éternel fut adressée à Jérémie, en ces mots : 13Ainsi parle l’Éternel des armées, le Dieu d’Israël : Va, et dis aux hommes de Juda et aux habitants de Jérusalem : Ne recevrez-vous pas instruction, pour obéir à mes paroles ? dit l’Éternel. 14On a observé les paroles de Jonadab, fils de Récab, qui a ordonné à ses fils de ne pas boire du vin, et ils n’en ont point bu jusqu’à ce jour, parce qu’ils ont obéi à l’ordre de leur père. Et moi, je vous ai parlé, je vous ai parlé dès le matin, et vous ne m’avez pas écouté. 15Je vous ai envoyé tous mes serviteurs, les prophètes, je les ai envoyés dès le matin, pour vous dire : Revenez chacun de votre mauvaise voie, amendez vos actions, n’allez pas après d’autres dieux pour les servir, et vous resterez dans le pays que j’ai donné à vous et à vos pères. Mais vous n’avez pas prêté l’oreille, vous ne m’avez pas écouté. 16Oui, les fils de Jonadab, fils de Récab, observent l’ordre que leur a donné leur père, et ce peuple ne m’écoute pas ! 17C’est pourquoi ainsi parle l’Éternel, le Dieu des armées, le Dieu d’Israël : Voici, je vais faire venir sur Juda et sur tous les habitants de Jérusalem tous les malheurs que j’ai annoncés sur eux, parce que je leur ai parlé et qu’ils n’ont pas écouté, parce que je les ai appelés et qu’ils n’ont pas répondu. 18Et Jérémie dit à la maison des Récabites : Ainsi parle l’Éternel des armées, le Dieu d’Israël : Parce que vous avez obéi aux ordres de Jonadab, votre père, parce que vous avez observé tous ses commandements et fait tout ce qu’il vous a prescrit ; 19à cause de cela, ainsi parle l’Éternel des armées, le Dieu d’Israël : Jonadab, fils de Récab, ne manquera jamais de descendants qui se tiennent en ma présence.
1The word which came to Jeremiah from Yahweh in the days of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah, saying, 2Go to the house of the Rechabites, and speak to them, and bring them into Yahweh’s house, into one of the rooms, and give them wine to drink. 3Then I took Jaazaniah the son of Jeremiah, the son of Habazziniah, and his brothers, and all his sons, and the whole house of the Rechabites; 4and I brought them into Yahweh’s house, into the room of the sons of Hanan the son of Igdaliah, the man of God, which was by the room of the princes, which was above the room of Maaseiah the son of Shallum, the keeper of the threshold. 5I set before the sons of the house of the Rechabites bowls full of wine, and cups; and I said to them, Drink wine! 6But they said, We will drink no wine; for Jonadab the son of Rechab, our father, commanded us, saying, You shall drink no wine, neither you, nor your sons, forever: 7neither shall you build house, nor sow seed, nor plant vineyard, nor have any; but all your days you shall dwell in tents; that you may live many days in the land in which you live. 8We have obeyed the voice of Jonadab the son of Rechab, our father, in all that he commanded us, to drink no wine all our days, we, our wives, our sons, or our daughters; 9nor to build houses for us to dwell in; neither have we vineyard, nor field, nor seed: 10but we have lived in tents, and have obeyed, and done according to all that Jonadab our father commanded us. 11But when Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon came up into the land, we said, “Come, and let us go to Jerusalem for fear of the army of the Chaldeans, and for fear of the army of the Syrians; so we will dwell at Jerusalem.” 12Then Yahweh’s word came to Jeremiah, saying, 13Thus says Yahweh of Armies, the God of Israel: Go, and tell the men of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, Will you not receive instruction to listen to my words? says Yahweh. 14The words of Jonadab the son of Rechab, that he commanded his sons, not to drink wine, are performed; and to this day they drink none, for they obey their father’s commandment: but I have spoken to you, rising up early and speaking; and you have not listened to me. 15I have sent also to you all my servants the prophets, rising up early and sending them, saying, Return now every man from his evil way, and amend your doings, and don’t go after other gods to serve them, and you shall dwell in the land which I have given to you and to your fathers: but you have not inclined your ear, nor listened to me. 16Because the sons of Jonadab the son of Rechab have performed the commandment of their father which he commanded them, but this people has not listened to me; 17therefore thus says Yahweh, the God of Armies, the God of Israel: Behold, I will bring on Judah and on all the inhabitants of Jerusalem all the evil that I have pronounced against them; because I have spoken to them, but they have not heard; and I have called to them, but they have not answered. 18Jeremiah said to the house of the Rechabites, Thus says Yahweh of Armies, the God of Israel: Because you have obeyed the commandment of Jonadab your father, and kept all his precepts, and done according to all that he commanded you; 19therefore thus says Yahweh of Armies, the God of Israel: Jonadab the son of Rechab shall not want a man to stand before me forever.
1Het woord, dat tot Jeremia geschied is van den HEERE, in de dagen van Jojakim, den zoon van Josia, den koning van Juda, zeggende: 2Ga henen tot der Rechabieten huis, en spreek met hen, en breng hen in des HEEREN huis, in een der kameren, en geef hun wijn te drinken. 3Toen nam ik Jaazanja, den zoon van Jeremia, den zoon van Habazzinja, mitsgaders zijn broederen, en al zijn zonen, en het ganse huis der Rechabieten; 4En bracht hen in des HEEREN huis, in de kamer der zonen van Hanan, den zoon van Jigdalia, den man Gods; welke is bij de kamer der oversten, die daar is boven de kamer van Maaseja, den zoon van Sallum, den dorpelbewaarder. 5En ik zette den kinderen van het huis der Rechabieten koppen vol wijn en bekers voor; en ik zeide tot hen: Drinkt wijn. 6Maar zij zeiden: Wij zullen geen wijn drinken; want Jonadab, de zoon van Rechab, onze vader, heeft ons geboden, zeggende: Gijlieden zult geen wijn drinken, gij, noch uw kinderen, tot in eeuwigheid. 7Ook zult gijlieden geen huis bouwen, noch zaad zaaien, noch wijngaard planten, noch hebben; maar gij zult in tenten wonen al uw dagen; opdat gij veel dagen leeft in het land, alwaar gij als vreemdeling verkeert. 8Zo hebben wij der stemme van Jonadab, den zoon van Rechab, onzen vader, gehoorzaamd in alles, wat hij ons geboden heeft; zodat wij geen wijn drinken al onze dagen, wij, onze vrouwen, onze zonen, en onze dochteren; 9En dat wij geen huizen bouwen tot onze woning; ook hebben wij geen wijngaard, noch veld, noch zaad; 10En wij hebben in tenten gewoond; alzo hebben wij gehoord en gedaan naar alles, wat ons onze vader Jonadab geboden heeft. 11Maar het is geschied, als Nebukadrezar, de koning van Babel, naar dit land optoog, dat wij zeiden: Komt, en laat ons naar Jeruzalem trekken vanwege het heir der Chaldeen, en vanwege het heir der Syriers; alzo zijn wij te Jeruzalem gebleven. 12Toen geschiedde des HEEREN woord tot Jeremia, zeggende: 13Zo zegt de HEERE der heirscharen, de God Israels: Ga henen en zeg tot de mannen van Juda en tot de inwoners van Jeruzalem: Zult gijlieden geen tucht aannemen, dat gij hoort naar Mijn woorden? spreekt de HEERE. 14De woorden van Jonadab, den zoon van Rechab, die hij zijn kinderen geboden heeft, dat zij geen wijn zouden drinken, zijn bevestigd; want zij hebben geen wijn gedronken tot op dezen dag, maar het gebod huns vaders gehoord; en Ik heb tot ulieden gesproken, vroeg op zijnde en sprekende, maar gij hebt naar Mij niet gehoord. 15En Ik heb tot u gezonden al Mijn knechten, de profeten, vroeg op zijnde en zendende, om te zeggen: Bekeert u toch, een iegelijk van zijn bozen weg, en maakt uw handelingen goed, en wandelt andere goden niet na, om hen te dienen, zo zult gij in het land blijven, dat Ik u en uw vaderen gegeven heb; maar gij hebt uw oor niet geneigd, en naar Mij niet gehoord. 16Dewijl dan de kinderen van Jonadab, den zoon van Rechab, het gebod huns vaders, dat hij hun geboden heeft, bevestigd hebben, maar dit volk naar Mij niet hoort; 17Daarom alzo zegt de HEERE, de God der heirscharen, de God Israels: Ziet, Ik zal over Juda en over alle inwoners van Jeruzalem brengen al het kwaad, dat Ik tegen hen gesproken heb; omdat Ik tot hen gesproken heb, maar zij niet gehoord hebben, en Ik tot hen geroepen heb, maar zij niet hebben geantwoord. 18Tot het huis nu der Rechabieten zeide Jeremia: Zo zegt de HEERE der heirscharen, de God Israels: Omdat gijlieden het gebod van uw vader Jonadab zijt gehoorzaam geweest, en hebt al zijn geboden bewaard, en gedaan naar alles, wat hij ulieden geboden heeft; 19Daarom alzo zegt de HEERE der heirscharen, de God Israels: Er zal Jonadab, den zoon van Rechab, niet worden afgesneden een man, die voor Mijn aangezicht sta, al de dagen.
