1En ce temps-là, l’Éternel me dit : Taille deux tables de pierre comme les premières, et monte vers moi sur la montagne ; tu feras aussi une arche de bois. 2J’écrirai sur ces tables les paroles qui étaient sur les premières tables que tu as brisées, et tu les mettras dans l’arche. 3Je fis une arche de bois d’acacia, je taillai deux tables de pierre comme les premières, et je montai sur la montagne, les deux tables dans ma main. 4L’Éternel écrivit sur les tables ce qui avait été écrit sur les premières, les dix paroles qu’il vous avait dites sur la montagne, du milieu du feu, le jour de l’assemblée ; et l’Éternel me les donna. 5Je retournai et je descendis de la montagne, je mis les tables dans l’arche que j’avais faite, et elles restèrent là, comme l’Éternel me l’avait ordonné. 6Les enfants d’Israël partirent de Beéroth-Bené Jaakan pour Moséra. C’est là que mourut Aaron, et qu’il fut enterré ; Éléazar, son fils, lui succéda dans le sacerdoce. 7Ils partirent de là pour Gudgoda, et de Gudgoda pour Jothbatha, pays où il y a des cours d’eaux. 8En ce temps-là, l’Éternel sépara la tribu de Lévi, et lui ordonna de porter l’arche de l’alliance de l’Éternel, de se tenir devant l’Éternel pour le servir, et de bénir le peuple en son nom : ce qu’elle a fait jusqu’à ce jour. 9C’est pourquoi Lévi n’a ni part ni héritage avec ses frères : l’Éternel est son héritage, comme l’Éternel, ton Dieu, le lui a dit. 10Je restai sur la montagne, comme précédemment, quarante jours et quarante nuits. L’Éternel m’exauça encore cette fois ; l’Éternel ne voulut pas te détruire. 11L’Éternel me dit : Lève-toi, va, marche à la tête du peuple. Qu’ils aillent prendre possession du pays que j’ai juré à leurs pères de leur donner. 12Maintenant, Israël, que demande de toi l’Éternel, ton Dieu, si ce n’est que tu craignes l’Éternel, ton Dieu, afin de marcher dans toutes ses voies, d’aimer et de servir l’Éternel, ton Dieu, de tout ton cœur et de toute ton âme ; 13si ce n’est que tu observes les commandements de l’Éternel et ses lois que je te prescris aujourd’hui, afin que tu sois heureux ? 14Voici, à l’Éternel, ton Dieu, appartiennent les cieux et les cieux des cieux, la terre et tout ce qu’elle renferme. 15Et c’est à tes pères seulement que l’Éternel s’est attaché pour les aimer ; et, après eux, c’est leur postérité, c’est vous qu’il a choisis d’entre tous les peuples, comme vous le voyez aujourd’hui. 16Vous circoncirez donc votre cœur, et vous ne roidirez plus votre cou. 17Car l’Éternel, votre Dieu, est le Dieu des dieux, le Seigneur des seigneurs, le Dieu grand, fort et terrible, qui ne fait point acception des personnes et qui ne reçoit point de présent, 18qui fait droit à l’orphelin et à la veuve, qui aime l’étranger et lui donne de la nourriture et des vêtements. 19Vous aimerez l’étranger, car vous avez été étrangers dans le pays d’Égypte. 20Tu craindras l’Éternel, ton Dieu, tu le serviras, tu t’attacheras à lui, et tu jureras par son nom. 21Il est ta gloire, il est ton Dieu : c’est lui qui a fait au milieu de toi ces choses grandes et terribles que tes yeux ont vues. 22Tes pères descendirent en Égypte au nombre de soixante-dix personnes ; et maintenant l’Éternel, ton Dieu, a fait de toi une multitude pareille aux étoiles des cieux.
1At that time Yahweh said to me, “Cut two stone tablets like the first, and come up to me onto the mountain, and make an ark of wood. 2I will write on the tables the words that were on the first tables which you broke, and you shall put them in the ark.” 3So I made an ark of acacia wood, and cut two stone tablets like the first, and went up onto the mountain, having the two tables in my hand. 4He wrote on the tables, according to the first writing, the ten commandments, which Yahweh spoke to you on the mountain out of the midst of the fire in the day of the assembly: and Yahweh gave them to me. 5I turned and came down from the mountain, and put the tables in the ark which I had made; and there they are as Yahweh commanded me. 6(The children of Israel traveled from Beeroth Bene Jaakan to Moserah. There Aaron died, and there he was buried; and Eleazar his son ministered in the priest’s office in his place. 7From there they traveled to Gudgodah; and from Gudgodah to Jotbathah, a land of brooks of water. 8At that time Yahweh set apart the tribe of Levi, to bear the ark of the covenant of Yahweh, to stand before Yahweh to minister to him, and to bless in his name, to this day. 9Therefore Levi has no portion nor inheritance with his brothers; Yahweh is his inheritance, according as Yahweh your God spoke to him.) 10I stayed on the mountain, as at the first time, forty days and forty nights: and Yahweh listened to me that time also; Yahweh would not destroy you. 11Yahweh said to me, “Arise, take your journey before the people; and they shall go in and possess the land, which I swore to their fathers to give to them.” 12Now, Israel, what does Yahweh your God require of you, but to fear Yahweh your God, to walk in all his ways, and to love him, and to serve Yahweh your God with all your heart and with all your soul, 13to keep the commandments of Yahweh, and his statutes, which I command you this day for your good? 14Behold, to Yahweh your God belongs heaven and the heaven of heavens, the earth, with all that is therein. 15Only Yahweh had a delight in your fathers to love them, and he chose their seed after them, even you above all peoples, as at this day. 16Circumcise therefore the foreskin of your heart, and be no more stiff-necked. 17For Yahweh your God, he is God of gods, and Lord of lords, the great God, the mighty, and the awesome, who doesn’t respect persons, nor takes reward. 18He does execute justice for the fatherless and widow, and loves the foreigner, in giving him food and clothing. 19Therefore love the foreigner; for you were foreigners in the land of Egypt. 20You shall fear Yahweh your God; you shall serve him; and you shall cling to him, and you shall swear by his name. 21He is your praise, and he is your God, who has done for you these great and awesome things, which your eyes have seen. 22Your fathers went down into Egypt with seventy persons; and now Yahweh your God has made you as the stars of the sky for multitude.

Aldaar stierf Aaron, en werd aldaar begraven; en zijn zoon Eleazar bediende het priesterambt in zijn plaats. 7Van daar reisden zij naar Gudgod, en van Gudgod naar Jotbath, een land van waterbeken.) 8Ter zelver tijd scheidde de HEERE den stam Levi uit, om de ark des verbonds des HEEREN te dragen, om voor het aangezicht des HEEREN te staan, om Hem te dienen, en om in Zijn Naam te zegenen, tot op dezen dag. 9Daarom heeft Levi geen deel noch erve met zijn broederen; de HEERE is zijn Erfdeel, gelijk als de HEERE, uw God, tot hem gesproken heeft. 10En ik stond op den berg, als de vorige dagen, veertig dagen en veertig nachten; en de HEERE verhoorde mij ook op datzelve maal; de HEERE heeft u niet willen verderven. 11Maar de HEERE zeide tot mij: Sta op, ga op de reize, voor het aangezicht des volks, dat zij inkomen, en erven het land, dat Ik hun vaderen gezworen heb, hun te geven. 12Nu dan, Israel! wat eist de HEERE, uw God van u dan den HEERE, uw God, te vrezen, in al Zijn wegen te wandelen, en Hem lief te hebben, en den HEERE, uw God, te dienen, met uw ganse hart en met uw ganse ziel; 13Om te houden de geboden des HEEREN, en Zijn inzettingen, die ik u heden gebiede, u ten goede. 14Ziet, des HEEREN, uws Gods, is de hemel, en de hemel der hemelen, de aarde, en al wat daarin is. 15Alleenlijk heeft de HEERE lust gehad aan uw vaderen, om die lief te hebben, en heeft hun zaad na hen, ulieden, uit al de volken verkoren, gelijk het te dezen dage is. 16Besnijdt dan de voorhuid uws harten, en verhardt uw nek niet meer. 17Want de HEERE, uw God, is een God der goden, en een Heere der heren; die grote, die machtige, en die vreselijke God, Die geen aangezicht aanneemt, noch geschenk ontvangt; 18Die het recht van den wees en van de weduwe doet; en den vreemdeling liefheeft, dat Hij hem brood en kleding geve. 19Daarom zult gijlieden den vreemdeling liefhebben, want gij zijt vreemdelingen geweest in Egypteland. 20Den HEERE, uw God, zult gij vrezen; Hem zult gij dienen, en Hem zult gij aanhangen, en bij Zijn Naam zweren. 21Hij is uw Lof, en Hij is uw God. Die bij u gedaan heeft deze grote en vreselijke dingen, die uw ogen gezien hebben. 22Uw vaderen togen af naar Egypte met zeventig zielen; en nu heeft u de HEERE, uw God, gesteld als de sterren des hemels in menigte.
