1Les Philistins rassemblèrent toutes leurs troupes à Aphek, et Israël campa près de la source de Jizreel. 2Les princes des Philistins s’avancèrent avec leurs centaines et leurs milliers, et David et ses gens marchaient à l’arrière-garde avec Akisch. 3Les princes des Philistins dirent : Que font ici ces Hébreux ? Et Akisch répondit aux princes des Philistins : N’est-ce pas David, serviteur de Saül, roi d’Israël ? il y a longtemps qu’il est avec moi, et je n’ai pas trouvé la moindre chose à lui reprocher depuis son arrivée jusqu’à ce jour. 4Mais les princes des Philistins s’irritèrent contre Akisch, et lui dirent : Renvoie cet homme, et qu’il retourne dans le lieu où tu l’as établi ; qu’il ne descende pas avec nous sur le champ de bataille, afin qu’il ne soit pas pour nous un ennemi pendant le combat. Et comment cet homme rentrerait-il en grâce auprès de son maître, si ce n’est au moyen des têtes de nos gens ? 5N’est-ce pas ce David pour qui l’on chantait en dansant : Saül a frappé ses mille, Et David ses dix mille ? 6Akisch appela David, et lui dit : L’Éternel est vivant ! tu es un homme droit, et j’aime à te voir aller et venir avec moi dans le camp, car je n’ai rien trouvé de mauvais en toi depuis ton arrivée auprès de moi jusqu’à ce jour ; mais tu ne plais pas aux princes. 7Retourne donc et va-t’en en paix, pour ne rien faire de désagréable aux yeux des princes des Philistins. 8David dit à Akisch : Mais qu’ai-je fait, et qu’as-tu trouvé en ton serviteur depuis que je suis auprès de toi jusqu’à ce jour, pour que je n’aille pas combattre les ennemis de mon seigneur le roi ? 9Akisch répondit à David : Je le sais, car tu es agréable à mes yeux comme un ange de Dieu ; mais les princes des Philistins disent : Il ne montera point avec nous pour combattre. 10Ainsi lève-toi de bon matin, toi et les serviteurs de ton maître qui sont venus avec toi ; levez-vous de bon matin, et partez dès que vous verrez la lumière. 11David et ses gens se levèrent de bonne heure, pour partir dès le matin, et retourner dans le pays des Philistins. Et les Philistins montèrent à Jizreel.
1Now the Philistines gathered together all their armies to Aphek: and the Israelites encamped by the spring which is in Jezreel. 2The lords of the Philistines passed on by hundreds, and by thousands; and David and his men passed on in the rear with Achish. 3Then the princes of the Philistines said, “What about these Hebrews?” Achish said to the princes of the Philistines, “Isn’t this David, the servant of Saul the king of Israel, who has been with me these days, or rather these years, and I have found no fault in him since he fell away to this day?” 4But the princes of the Philistines were angry with him; and the princes of the Philistines said to him, “Make the man return, that he may go back to his place where you have appointed him, and let him not go down with us to battle, lest in the battle he become an adversary to us. For with what should this fellow reconcile himself to his lord? Should it not be with the heads of these men? 5Is not this David, of whom they sang one to another in dances, saying, ‘Saul has slain his thousands, David his ten thousands?’” 6Then Achish called David, and said to him, “As Yahweh lives, you have been upright, and your going out and your coming in with me in the army is good in my sight; for I have not found evil in you since the day of your coming to me to this day. Nevertheless, the lords don’t favor you. 7Therefore now return, and go in peace, that you not displease the lords of the Philistines.” 8David said to Achish, “But what have I done? What have you found in your servant so long as I have been before you to this day, that I may not go and fight against the enemies of my lord the king?” 9Achish answered David, “I know that you are good in my sight, as an angel of God. Notwithstanding the princes of the Philistines have said, ‘He shall not go up with us to the battle.’ 10Therefore now rise up early in the morning with the servants of your lord who have come with you; and as soon as you are up early in the morning, and have light, depart.” 11So David rose up early, he and his men, to depart in the morning, to return into the land of the Philistines. The Philistines went up to Jezreel.
1De Filistijnen nu hadden al hun legers vergaderd te Afek; en de Israelieten legerden zich bij de fontein, die bij Jizreel is. 2En de vorsten der Filistijnen togen daarheen met honderden, en met duizenden; doch David met zijn mannen togen met Achis in den achtertocht. 3Toen zeiden de oversten der Filistijnen: Wat zullen deze Hebreen? Zo zeide Achis tot de oversten der Filistijnen: Is deze niet David, de knecht van Saul, den koning van Israel, die deze dagen of deze jaren bij mij geweest is? En ik heb in hem niets gevonden van dien dag af, dat hij afgevallen is tot dezen dag toe. 4Doch de oversten der Filistijnen werden zeer toornig op hem, en de oversten der Filistijnen zeiden tot hem: Doe den man wederkeren, dat hij tot zijn plaats wederkere, waar gij hem besteld hebt, en dat hij niet met ons aftrekke in den strijd, opdat hij ons niet tot een tegenpartijder worde in den strijd; want waarmede zou deze zich bij zijn heer aangenaam maken? Is het niet met de hoofden dezer mannen? 5Is dit niet die David, van denwelken zij in den rei elkander antwoordden, zeggende: Saul heeft zijn duizenden geslagen, maar David zijn tienduizenden? 6Toen riep Achis David, en zeide tot hem: Het is zo waarachtig als de HEERE leeft, dat gij oprecht zijt, en uw uitgang en uw ingang met mij in het leger is goed in mijn ogen; want ik heb geen kwaad bij u gevonden, van dien dag af, dat gij tot mij zijt gekomen, tot dezen dag toe; maar gij zijt niet aangenaam in de ogen der vorsten. 7Zo keer nu om, en ga in vrede, opdat gij geen kwaad doet in de ogen van de vorsten der Filistijnen. 8Toen zeide David tot Achis: Maar wat heb ik gedaan? Of wat hebt gij in uw knecht gevonden, van dien dag af, dat ik voor uw aangezicht geweest ben, tot dezen dag toe, dat ik niet zal gaan en strijden tegen de vijanden van mijn heer, den koning? 9Achis nu antwoordde en zeide tot David: Ik weet het; voorwaar, gij zijt aangenaam in mijn ogen, als een engel Gods; maar de oversten der Filistijnen hebben gezegd: Laat hem met ons in dezen strijd niet optrekken. 10Nu dan, maak u morgen vroeg op met de knechten uws heren, die met u gekomen zijn; en als gijlieden u morgen vroeg zult opgemaakt hebben, en het ulieden licht geworden is, zo gaat heen. 11Toen maakte zich David vroeg op, hij en zijn mannen, dat zij des morgens weggingen, om weder te keren in het land der Filistijnen; de Filistijnen daarentegen togen op naar Jizreel.
