1Anne pria, et dit : Mon cœur se réjouit en l’Éternel, Ma force a été relevée par l’Éternel ; Ma bouche s’est ouverte contre mes ennemis, Car je me réjouis de ton secours. 2Nul n’est saint comme l’Éternel ; Il n’y a point d’autre Dieu que toi ; Il n’y a point de rocher comme notre Dieu. 3Ne parlez plus avec tant de hauteur ; Que l’arrogance ne sorte plus de votre bouche ; Car l’Éternel est un Dieu qui sait tout, Et par lui sont pesées toutes les actions. 4L’arc des puissants est brisé, Et les faibles ont la force pour ceinture. 5Ceux qui étaient rassasiés se louent pour du pain, Et ceux qui étaient affamés se reposent ; Même la stérile enfante sept fois, Et celle qui avait beaucoup d’enfants est flétrie. 6L’Éternel fait mourir et il fait vivre. Il fait descendre au séjour des morts et il en fait remonter. 7L’Éternel appauvrit et il enrichit, Il abaisse et il élève. 8De la poussière il retire le pauvre, Du fumier il relève l’indigent, Pour les faire asseoir avec les grands. Et il leur donne en partage un trône de gloire ; Car à l’Éternel sont les colonnes de la terre, Et c’est sur elles qu’il a posé le monde. 9Il gardera les pas de ses bien-aimés. Mais les méchants seront anéantis dans les ténèbres ; Car l’homme ne triomphera point par la force. 10Les ennemis de l’Éternel trembleront ; Du haut des cieux il lancera sur eux son tonnerre ; L’Éternel jugera les extrémités de la terre. Il donnera la puissance à son roi, Et il relèvera la force de son oint. 11Elkana s’en alla dans sa maison à Rama, et l’enfant fut au service de l’Éternel devant le sacrificateur Éli. 12Les fils d’Éli étaient des hommes pervers, ils ne connaissaient point l’Éternel. 13Et voici quelle était la manière d’agir de ces sacrificateurs à l’égard du peuple. Lorsque quelqu’un offrait un sacrifice, le serviteur du sacrificateur arrivait au moment où l’on faisait cuire la chair. Tenant à la main une fourchette à trois dents, 14il piquait dans la chaudière, dans le chaudron, dans la marmite, ou dans le pot ; et tout ce que la fourchette amenait, le sacrificateur le prenait pour lui. C’est ainsi qu’ils agissaient à l’égard de tous ceux d’Israël qui venaient là à Silo. 15Même avant qu’on fît brûler la graisse, le serviteur du sacrificateur arrivait et disait à celui qui offrait le sacrifice : Donne pour le sacrificateur de la chair à rôtir ; il ne recevra de toi point de chair cuite, c’est de la chair crue qu’il veut. 16Et si l’homme lui disait : Quand on aura brûlé la graisse, tu prendras ce qui te plaira, le serviteur répondait : Non ! tu donneras maintenant, sinon je prends de force. 17Ces jeunes gens se rendaient coupables devant l’Éternel d’un très grand péché, parce qu’ils méprisaient les offrandes de l’Éternel. 18Samuel faisait le service devant l’Éternel, et cet enfant était revêtu d’un éphod de lin. 19Sa mère lui faisait chaque année une petite robe, et la lui apportait en montant avec son mari pour offrir le sacrifice annuel. 20Éli bénit Elkana et sa femme, en disant : Que l’Éternel te fasse avoir des enfants de cette femme, pour remplacer celui qu’elle a prêté à l’Éternel ! Et ils s’en retournèrent chez eux. 21Lorsque l’Éternel eut visité Anne, elle devint enceinte, et elle enfanta trois fils et deux filles. Et le jeune Samuel grandissait auprès de l’Éternel. 22Éli était fort âgé et il apprit comment ses fils agissaient à l’égard de tout Israël ; il apprit aussi qu’ils couchaient avec les femmes qui s’assemblaient à l’entrée de la tente d’assignation. 23Il leur dit : Pourquoi faites-vous de telles choses ? car j’apprends de tout le peuple vos mauvaises actions. 24Non, mes enfants, ce que j’entends dire n’est pas bon ; vous faites pécher le peuple de l’Éternel. 25Si un homme pèche contre un autre homme, Dieu le jugera ; mais s’il pèche contre l’Éternel, qui intercédera pour lui ? Et ils n’écoutèrent point la voix de leur père, car l’Éternel voulait les faire mourir. 26Le jeune Samuel continuait à grandir, et il était agréable à l’Éternel et aux hommes. 27Un homme de Dieu vint auprès d’Éli, et lui dit : Ainsi parle l’Éternel : Ne me suis-je pas révélé à la maison de ton père, lorsqu’ils étaient en Égypte dans la maison de Pharaon ? 28Je l’ai choisie parmi toutes les tribus d’Israël pour être à mon service dans le sacerdoce, pour monter à mon autel, pour brûler le parfum, pour porter l’éphod devant moi, et j’ai donné à la maison de ton père tous les sacrifices consumés par le feu et offerts par les enfants d’Israël. 29Pourquoi foulez-vous aux pieds mes sacrifices et mes offrandes, que j’ai ordonné de faire dans ma demeure ? Et d’où vient que tu honores tes fils plus que moi, afin de vous engraisser des prémices de toutes les offrandes d’Israël, mon peuple ? 30C’est pourquoi voici ce que dit l’Éternel, le Dieu d’Israël : J’avais déclaré que ta maison et la maison de ton père marcheraient devant moi à perpétuité. Et maintenant, dit l’Éternel, loin de moi ! Car j’honorerai celui qui m’honore, mais ceux qui me méprisent seront méprisés. 31Voici, le temps arrive où je retrancherai ton bras et le bras de la maison de ton père, en sorte qu’il n’y aura plus de vieillard dans ta maison. 32Tu verras un adversaire dans ma demeure, tandis qu’Israël sera comblé de biens par l’Éternel ; et il n’y aura plus jamais de vieillard dans ta maison. 33Je laisserai subsister auprès de mon autel l’un des tiens, afin de consumer tes yeux et d’attrister ton âme ; mais tous ceux de ta maison mourront dans la force de l’âge. 34Et tu auras pour signe ce qui arrivera à tes deux fils, Hophni et Phinées ; ils mourront tous les deux le même jour. 35Je m’établirai un sacrificateur fidèle, qui agira selon mon cœur et selon mon âme ; je lui bâtirai une maison stable, et il marchera toujours devant mon oint. 36Et quiconque restera de ta maison viendra se prosterner devant lui pour avoir une pièce d’argent et un morceau de pain, et dira : Attache-moi, je te prie, à l’une des fonctions du sacerdoce, afin que j’aie un morceau de pain à manger.
1Hannah prayed, and said: “My heart exults in Yahweh! My horn is exalted in Yahweh. My mouth is enlarged over my enemies, because I rejoice in your salvation. 2There is no one as holy as Yahweh, For there is no one besides you, nor is there any rock like our God. 3“Talk no more so exceeding proudly. Don’t let arrogance come out of your mouth, For Yahweh is a God of knowledge. By him actions are weighed. 4“The bows of the mighty men are broken. Those who stumbled are armed with strength. 5Those who were full have hired themselves out for bread. Those who were hungry are satisfied. Yes, the barren has borne seven. She who has many children languishes. 6“Yahweh kills, and makes alive. He brings down to Sheol, and brings up. 7Yahweh makes poor, and makes rich. He brings low, he also lifts up. 8He raises up the poor out of the dust. He lifts up the needy from the dunghill, To make them sit with princes, and inherit the throne of glory. For the pillars of the earth are Yahweh’s. He has set the world on them. 9He will keep the feet of his holy ones, but the wicked shall be put to silence in darkness; for no man shall prevail by strength. 10Those who strive with Yahweh shall be broken to pieces. He will thunder against them in the sky. “Yahweh will judge the ends of the earth. He will give strength to his king, and exalt the horn of his anointed.” 11Elkanah went to Ramah to his house. The child served Yahweh before Eli the priest. 12Now the sons of Eli were base men; they didn’t know Yahweh. 13The custom of the priests with the people was that when any man offered sacrifice, the priest’s servant came, while the flesh was boiling, with a fork of three teeth in his hand; 14and he struck it into the pan, or kettle, or cauldron, or pot; all that the fork brought up the priest took therewith. So they did in Shiloh to all the Israelites who came there. 15Yes, before they burnt the fat, the priest’s servant came, and said to the man who sacrificed, “Give meat to roast for the priest; for he will not accept boiled meat from you, but raw.” 16If the man said to him, “Let the fat be burned first, and then take as much as your soul desires”; then he would say, “No, but you shall give it to me now; and if not, I will take it by force.” 17The sin of the young men was very great before Yahweh; for the men despised the offering of Yahweh. 18But Samuel ministered before Yahweh, being a child, clothed with a linen ephod. 19Moreover his mother made him a little robe, and brought it to him from year to year, when she came up with her husband to offer the yearly sacrifice. 20Eli blessed Elkanah and his wife, and said, “Yahweh give you seed of this woman for the petition which was asked of Yahweh.” They went to their own home. 21Yahweh visited Hannah, and she conceived, and bore three sons and two daughters. The child Samuel grew before Yahweh. 22Now Eli was very old; and he heard all that his sons did to all Israel, and how that they lay with the women who served at the door of the Tent of Meeting. 23He said to them, “Why do you do such things? for I hear of your evil dealings from all this people. 24No, my sons; for it is no good report that I hear: you make Yahweh’s people disobey. 25If one man sin against another, God shall judge him; but if a man sin against Yahweh, who shall entreat for him?” Notwithstanding, they didn’t listen to the voice of their father, because Yahweh intended to kill them. 26The child Samuel grew on, and increased in favor both with Yahweh, and also with men. 27A man of God came to Eli, and said to him, “Thus says Yahweh, ‘Did I reveal myself to the house of your father, when they were in Egypt in bondage to Pharaoh’s house? 28Did I choose him out of all the tribes of Israel to be my priest, to go up to my altar, to burn incense, to wear an ephod before me? Did I give to the house of your father all the offerings of the children of Israel made by fire? 29Why do you kick at my sacrifice and at my offering, which I have commanded in my habitation, and honor your sons above me, to make yourselves fat with the best of all the offerings of Israel my people?’ 30“Therefore Yahweh, the God of Israel, says, ‘I said indeed that your house, and the house of your father, should walk before me forever.’ But now Yahweh says, ‘Be it far from me; for those who honor me I will honor, and those who despise me shall be lightly esteemed. 31Behold, the days come, that I will cut off your arm, and the arm of your father’s house, that there shall not be an old man in your house. 32You shall see the affliction of my habitation, in all the wealth which I shall give Israel; and there shall not be an old man in your house forever. 33The man of yours, whom I shall not cut off from my altar, shall consume your eyes, and grieve your heart; and all the increase of your house shall die in the flower of their age. 34“‘This shall be the sign to you, that shall come on your two sons, on Hophni and Phinehas: in one day they shall both die. 35I will raise me up a faithful priest, that shall do according to that which is in my heart and in my mind. I will build him a sure house; and he shall walk before my anointed forever. 36It shall happen, that everyone who is left in your house shall come and bow down to him for a piece of silver and a loaf of bread, and shall say, “Please put me into one of the priests’ offices, that I may eat a morsel of bread.”’”
1Toen bad Hanna en zeide: Mijn hart springt van vreugde op in den HEERE; mijn hoorn is verhoogd in den HEERE; mijn mond is wijd opengedaan over mijn vijanden; want ik verheug mij in Uw heil. 2Er is niemand heilig, gelijk de HEERE; want er is niemand dan Gij, en er is geen rotssteen, gelijk onze God! 3Maakt het niet te veel, dat gij hoog, hoog zoudt spreken, dat iets hards uit uw mond zou gaan; want de HEERE is een God der wetenschappen, en Zijn daden zijn recht gedaan. 4De boog der sterken is gebroken; en die struikelden, zijn met sterkte omgord. 5Die verzadigd waren, hebben zich verhuurd om brood, en die hongerig waren, zijn het niet meer; totdat de onvruchtbare zeven heeft gebaard, en die vele kinderen had, krachteloos is geworden. 6De HEERE doodt en maakt levend; Hij doet ter helle nederdalen, en Hij doet weder opkomen. 7De HEERE maakt arm en maakt rijk; Hij vernedert, ook verhoogt Hij. 8Hij verheft den geringe uit het stof, en den nooddruftige verhoogt Hij uit den drek, om te doen zitten bij de vorsten, dat Hij hen den stoel der ere doe beerven; want de grondvesten des aardrijks zijn des HEEREN, en Hij heeft de wereld daarop gezet. 9Hij zal de voeten Zijner gunstgenoten bewaren; maar de goddelozen zullen zwijgen in duisternis; want een man vermag niet door kracht. 10Die met den HEERE twisten, zullen verpletterd worden; Hij zal in den hemel over hen donderen; de HEERE zal de einden der aarde richten, en zal Zijn Koning sterkte geven, en den hoorn Zijns Gezalfden verhogen. 11Daarna ging Elkana naar Rama in zijn huis; maar de jongeling was den HEERE dienende voor het aangezicht van den priester Eli. 12Doch de zonen van Eli waren kinderen Belials; zij kenden den HEERE niet. 13Want de wijze dier priesters met het volk was, dat, wanneer iemand een offerande offerde, des priesters jongen kwam, terwijl het vlees kookte, met een drietandigen krauwel in zijn hand; 14En sloeg in de teile, of in den ketel, of in de pan, of in den pot; al wat de krauwel optrok, dat nam de priester voor zich. Alzo deden zij aan al de Israelieten, die te Silo kwamen. 15Ook eer zij het vet aanstaken, kwam des priesters jongen, en zeide tot den man, die offerde: Geef dat vlees om te braden voor den priester; want hij zal geen gekookt vlees van u nemen, maar rauw. 16Wanneer nu die man tot hem zeide: Zij zullen dat vet als heden ganselijk aansteken, zo neem dan voor u, gelijk als het uw ziel lusten zal; zo zeide hij tot hem: Nu zult gij het immers geven, en zo niet, ik zal het met geweld nemen. 17Alzo was de zonde dezer jongelingen zeer groot voor het aangezicht des HEEREN; want de lieden verachtten het spijsoffer des HEEREN. 18Doch Samuel diende voor het aangezicht des HEEREN, zijnde een jongeling, omgord met den linnen lijfrok. 19En zijn moeder maakte hem een kleinen rok, en bracht hem dien van jaar tot jaar, als zij opkwam met haar man, om het jaarlijkse offer te offeren. 20En Eli zegende Elkana, en zijn huisvrouw, en zeide: De HEERE geve u zaad uit deze vrouw voor de bede, die zij den HEERE afgebeden heeft. En zij gingen naar zijn plaats. 21Want de HEERE bezocht Hanna, en zij werd bevrucht, en baarde drie zonen en twee dochters; en de jongeling Samuel werd groot bij den HEERE. 22Doch Eli was zeer oud, en hoorde al, wat zijn zonen aan gans Israel deden, en dat zij sliepen bij de vrouwen, die met hopen samenkwamen aan de deur van de tent der samenkomst. 23En hij zeide tot hen: Waarom doet gij al zulke dingen, dat ik deze uw boze stukken hore van dit ganse volk? 24Niet, mijn zonen; want dit is geen goed gerucht, dat ik hoor; gij maakt, dat het volk des HEEREN overtreedt. 25Wanneer een mens tegen een mens zondigt, zo zullen de goden hem oordelen; maar wanneer een mens tegen den HEERE zondigt, wie zal voor hem bidden? Doch zij hoorden de stem huns vaders niet, want de HEERE wilde hen doden. 26En de jongeling Samuel nam toe, en werd groot en aangenaam beide bij den HEERE en ook bij de mensen. 27En er kwam een man Gods tot Eli, en zeide tot hem: Zo zegt de HEERE: Heb Ik Mij klaarlijk geopenbaard aan het huis uws vaders, toen zij in Egypte waren, in het huis van Farao? 28En Ik heb hem uit alle stammen van Israel Mij ten priester verkoren, om te offeren op Mijn altaar, om het reukwerk aan te steken, om den efod voor Mijn aangezicht te dragen; en heb aan het huis uws vaders gegeven al de vuurofferen van de kinderen Israels. 29Waarom slaat gijlieden achteruit tegen Mijn slachtoffer, en tegen Mijn spijsoffer, hetwelk Ik geboden heb in de woning; en eert uw zonen meer dan Mij, dat gijlieden u mest van het voornaamste van alle spijsoffers van Mijn volk Israel? 30Daarom spreekt de HEERE, de God Israels: Ik had wel klaarlijk gezegd: Uw huis en uws vaders huis zouden voor Mijn aangezicht wandelen tot in eeuwigheid; maar nu spreekt de HEERE: Dat zij verre van Mij; want die Mij eren, zal Ik eren, maar die Mij versmaden, zullen licht geacht worden. 31Zie, de dagen komen, dat Ik uw arm zal afhouwen, en den arm van uws vaders huis, dat er geen oud man in uw huis wezen zal. 32En gij zult aanschouwen de benauwdheid der woning Gods, in plaats van al het goede, dat Hij Israel zou gedaan hebben; en er zal te genen dage een oud man in uw huis zijn. 33Doch de man, dien Ik u niet zal uitroeien van Mijn altaar, zou zijn om uw ogen te verteren, en om uw ziel te bedroeven; en al de menigte uws huizes zal sterven, mannen geworden zijnde. 34Dit nu zal u een teken zijn, hetwelk over uw beide zonen, over Hofni en Pinehas, komen zal: op een dag zullen zij beiden sterven. 35En Ik zal Mij een getrouwen priester verwekken; die zal doen, gelijk als in Mijn hart en in Mijn ziel zijn zal; dien zal Ik een bestendig huis bouwen, en hij zal altijd voor het aangezicht Mijns Gezalfden wandelen. 36En het zal geschieden, dat al wie van uw huis zal overig zijn, zal komen, om zich voor hem neder te buigen voor een stukje gelds, en een bolle broods, en zal zeggen: Neem mij toch aan tot enige priesterlijke bedienig, dat ik een bete broods moge eten.
