1Y VOLVIMOS, y partímonos al desierto camino del mar Bermejo, como Jehová me había dicho; y rodeamos el monte de Seir por muchos días. 2Y Jehová me habló, diciendo: 3Harto habéis rodeado este monte; volveos al aquilón. 4Y manda al pueblo, diciendo: Pasando vosotros por el término de vuestros hermanos los hijos de Esaú, que habitan en Seir, ellos tendrán miedo de vosotros; mas vosotros guardaos mucho: 5No os metáis con ellos; que no os daré de su tierra ni aun la holladura de la planta de un pie; porque yo he dado por heredad á Esaú el monte de Seir. 6Compraréis de ellos por dinero las viandas, y comeréis; y también compraréis de ellos el agua, y beberéis: 7Pues Jehová tu Dios te ha bendecido en toda obra de tus manos: él sabe que andas por este gran desierto: estos cuarenta años Jehová tu Dios fué contigo; y ninguna cosa te ha faltado. 8Y pasamos de nuestros hermanos los hijos de Esaú, que habitaban en Seir, por el camino de la llanura de Elath y de Esiongeber. Y volvimos, y pasamos camino del desierto de Moab. 9Y Jehová me dijo: No molestes á Moab, ni te empeñes con ellos en guerra, que no te daré posesión de su tierra; porque yo he dado á Ar por heredad á los hijos de Lot. 10(Los Emimeos habitaron en ella antes, pueblo grande, y numeroso, y alto como gigantes: 11Por gigantes eran ellos también contados, como los Anaceos; y los Moabitas los llaman Emimeos. 12Y en Seir habitaron antes los Horeos, á los cuales echaron los hijos de Esaú; y los destruyeron de delante de sí, y moraron en lugar de ellos; como hizo Israel en la tierra de su posesión que les dió Jehová.) 13Levantaos ahora, y pasad el arroyo de Zered. Y pasamos el arroyo de Zered. 14Y los días que anduvimos de Cades-barnea hasta que pasamos el arroyo de Zered, fueron treinta y ocho años; hasta que se acabó toda la generación de los hombres de guerra de en medio del campo, como Jehová les había jurado. 15Y también la mano de Jehová fué sobre ellos para destruirlos de en medio del campo, hasta acabarlos. 16Y aconteció que cuando se hubieron acabado de morir todos los hombres de guerra de entre el pueblo, 17Jehová me habló, diciendo: 18Tú pasarás hoy el término de Moab, á Ar, 19Y te acercarás delante de los hijos de Ammón: no los molestes, ni te metas con ellos; porque no te tengo de dar posesión de la tierra de los hijos de Ammón; que á los hijos de Lot la he dado por heredad. 20(Por tierra de gigantes fué también ella tenida: habitaron en ella gigantes en otro tiempo, á los cuales los Ammonitas llamaban Zomzommeos; 21Pueblo grande, y numeroso, y alto, como los Anaceos; á los cuales Jehová destruyó de delante de los Ammonitas, quienes les sucedieron, y habitaron en su lugar: 22Como hizo con los hijos de Esaú, que habitaban en Seir, de delante de los cuales destruyó á los Horeos; y ellos les sucedieron, y habitaron en su lugar hasta hoy. 23Y á los Heveos que habitaban en Haserin hasta Gaza, los Caftoreos que salieron de Caftor los destruyeron, y habitaron en su lugar.) 24Levantaos, partid, y pasad el arroyo de Arnón: he aquí he dado en tu mano á Sehón rey de Hesbón, Amorrheo, y á su tierra: comienza á tomar posesión, y empéñate con él en guerra. 25Hoy comenzaré á poner tu miedo y tu espanto sobre los pueblos debajo de todo el cielo; los cuales oirán tu fama, y temblarán, y angustiarse han delante de ti. 26Y envié mensajeros desde el desierto de Cademoth á Sehón rey de Hesbón, con palabras de paz, diciendo: 27Pasaré por tu tierra por el camino: por el camino iré, sin apartarme á diestra ni á siniestra: 28La comida me venderás por dinero, y comeré: el agua también me darás por dinero, y beberé: solamente pasaré á pie; 29Como lo hicieron conmigo los hijos de Esaú que habitaban en Seir, y los Moabitas que habitaban en Ar; hasta que pase el Jordán á la tierra que nos da Jehová nuestro Dios. 30Mas Sehón rey de Hesbón no quiso que pasásemos por el territorio suyo; porque Jehová tu Dios había endurecido su espíritu, y obstinado su corazón para entregarlo en tu mano, como hoy. 31Y díjome Jehová: He aquí yo he comenzado á dar delante de ti á Sehón y á su tierra; comienza á tomar posesión, para que heredes su tierra. 32Y saliónos Sehón al encuentro, él y todo su pueblo, para pelear en Jaas. 33Mas Jehová nuestro Dios lo entregó delante de nosotros; y herimos á él y á sus hijos, y á todo su pueblo. 34Y tomamos entonces todas sus ciudades, y destruimos todas las ciudades, hombres, y mujeres, y niños; no dejamos ninguno: 35Solamente tomamos para nosotros las bestias, y los despojos de las ciudades que habíamos tomado. 36Desde Aroer, que está junto á la ribera del arroyo de Arnón, y la ciudad que está en el arroyo, hasta Galaad, no hubo ciudad que escapase de nosotros: todas las entregó Jehová nuestro Dios en nuestro poder. 37Solamente á la tierra de los hijos de Ammón no llegaste, ni á todo lo que está á la orilla del arroyo de Jaboc ni á las ciudades del monte, ni á lugar alguno que Jehová nuestro Dios había prohibido.
1Then we turned, and took our journey into the wilderness by the way to the Red Sea, as Yahweh spoke to me; and we encircled Mount Seir many days. 2Yahweh spoke to me, saying, 3“You have encircled this mountain long enough. Turn northward. 4Command the people, saying, ‘You are to pass through the border of your brothers the children of Esau, who dwell in Seir; and they will be afraid of you. Therefore be careful. 5Don’t contend with them; for I will not give you any of their land, no, not so much as for the sole of the foot to tread on; because I have given Mount Seir to Esau for a possession. 6You shall purchase food from them for money, that you may eat. You shall also buy water from them for money, that you may drink.’” 7For Yahweh your God has blessed you in all the work of your hand. He has known your walking through this great wilderness. These forty years, Yahweh your God has been with you. You have lacked nothing. 8So we passed by from our brothers the children of Esau, who dwell in Seir, from the way of the Arabah from Elath and from Ezion Geber. We turned and passed by the way of the wilderness of Moab. 9Yahweh said to me, “Don’t bother Moab, neither contend with them in battle; for I will not give you any of his land for a possession; because I have given Ar to the children of Lot for a possession.” 10(The Emim lived therein before, a people great, and many, and tall, as the Anakim. 11These also are considered to be Rephaim, as the Anakim; but the Moabites call them Emim. 12The Horites also lived in Seir before, but the children of Esau succeeded them. They destroyed them from before them, and lived in their place; as Israel did to the land of his possession, which Yahweh gave to them.) 13“Now rise up, and cross over the brook Zered.” We went over the brook Zered. 14The days in which we came from Kadesh Barnea, until we had come over the brook Zered, were thirty-eight years; until all the generation of the men of war were consumed from the midst of the camp, as Yahweh swore to them. 15Moreover the hand of Yahweh was against them, to destroy them from the midst of the camp, until they were consumed. 16So, when all the men of war were consumed and dead from among the people, 17Yahweh spoke to me, saying, 18“You are this day to pass over Ar, the border of Moab. 19When you come near the border of the children of Ammon, don’t bother them, nor contend with them; for I will not give you any of the land of the children of Ammon for a possession; because I have given it to the children of Lot for a possession.” 20(That also is considered a land of Rephaim: Rephaim lived there before; but the Ammonites call them Zamzummim, 21a great people, many, and tall, as the Anakim; but Yahweh destroyed them before them; and they succeeded them, and lived in their place; 22as he did for the children of Esau, who dwell in Seir, when he destroyed the Horites from before them; and they succeeded them, and lived in their place even to this day: 23and the Avvim, who lived in villages as far as Gaza, the Caphtorim, who came out of Caphtor, destroyed them, and lived in their place.) 24“Rise up, take your journey, and pass over the valley of the Arnon: behold, I have given into your hand Sihon the Amorite, king of Heshbon, and his land; begin to possess it, and contend with him in battle. 25This day will I begin to put the dread of you and the fear of you on the peoples who are under the whole sky, who shall hear the report of you, and shall tremble, and be in anguish because of you.” 26I sent messengers out of the wilderness of Kedemoth to Sihon king of Heshbon with words of peace, saying, 27“Let me pass through your land. I will go along by the highway, I will turn neither to the right hand nor to the left. 28You shall sell me food for money, that I may eat; and give me water for money, that I may drink. Just let me pass through on my feet, 29as the children of Esau who dwell in Seir, and the Moabites who dwell in Ar, did to me; until I pass over the Jordan into the land which Yahweh our God gives us.” 30But Sihon king of Heshbon would not let us pass by him; for Yahweh your God hardened his spirit, and made his heart obstinate, that he might deliver him into your hand, as at this day. 31Yahweh said to me, “Behold, I have begun to deliver up Sihon and his land before you. Begin to possess, that you may inherit his land.” 32Then Sihon came out against us, he and all his people, to battle at Jahaz. 33Yahweh our God delivered him up before us; and we struck him, his sons, and all his people. 34We took all his cities at that time, and utterly destroyed every inhabited city, with the women and the little ones. We left no one remaining. 35Only the livestock we took for plunder for ourselves, with the plunder of the cities which we had taken. 36From Aroer, which is on the edge of the valley of the Arnon, and the city that is in the valley, even to Gilead, there was not a city too high for us. Yahweh our God delivered up all before us. 37Only to the land of the children of Ammon you didn’t come near; all the side of the river Jabbok, and the cities of the hill country, and wherever Yahweh our God forbade us.
1Daarna keerden wij ons, en reisden naar de woestijn, den weg van de Schelfzee, gelijk de HEERE tot mij gesproken had, en wij togen om het gebergte Seir, vele dagen. 2Toen sprak de HEERE tot mij, zeggende: 3Gijlieden hebt dit gebergte genoeg omgetogen; keert u naar het noorden; 4En gebied het volk, zeggende: Gij zult doortrekken aan de landpale uwer broederen, de kinderen van Ezau, die in Seir wonen; zij zullen wel voor u vrezen; maar gij zult u zeer wachten. 5Mengt u niet met hen; want Ik zal u van hun land niet geven, ook niet tot de betreding van een voetzool; want Ik heb Ezau het gebergte Seir ter erfenis gegeven. 6Spijze zult gij voor geld van hen kopen, dat gij etet; en ook zult gij water voor geld van hen kopen, dat gij drinket. 7Want de HEERE, uw God, heeft u gezegend in al het werk uwer hand; Hij kent uw wandelen door deze zo grote woestijn; deze veertig jaren is de HEERE, uw God, met u geweest; geen ding heeft u ontbroken. 8Als wij nu doorgetrokken waren van onze broederen, de kinderen van Ezau, die in Seir woonden, van den weg des vlakken velds, van Elath, en van Ezeon-Geber, zo keerden wij ons, en doortogen den weg der woestijn van Moab. 9Toen sprak de HEERE tot mij: Beangstig Moab niet, en meng u niet met hen in den strijd; want Ik zal u geen erfenis van hun land geven, dewijl Ik aan Lots kinderen Ar ter erfenis gegeven heb. 10De Emieten woonden te voren daarin, een groot, en menigvuldig, en lang volk, gelijk de Enakieten. 11Dezen werden ook voor reuzen gehouden, als de Enakieten; en de Moabieten noemden hen Emieten. 12Ook woonden de Horieten te voren in Seir; maar de kinderen van Ezau verdreven hen uit de bezitting en verdelgden hen van hun aangezicht, en hebben in hunlieder plaats gewoond; gelijk als Israel gedaan heeft aan het land zijner erfenis, hetwelk de HEERE hun gegeven heeft. 13Nu, maakt u op, en trekt over de beek Zered. Alzo trokken wij over de beek Zered. 14De dagen nu, die wij gewandeld hebben van Kades-Barnea, totdat wij over de beek Zered getogen zijn, waren acht en dertig jaren; totdat het ganse geslacht der krijgslieden uit het midden der heirlegers verteerd was, gelijk de HEERE hun gezworen had. 15Zo was ook de hand des HEEREN tegen hen, om hen uit het midden des heirlegers te verslaan, totdat zij verteerd waren. 16En het geschiedde, als al de krijgslieden verteerd waren, uit het midden des heirlegers wegstervende, 17Dat de HEERE tot mij sprak, zeggende: 18Gij zult heden doortrekken aan Ar, de landpale van Moab; 19En gij zult naderen tegenover de kinderen Ammons; beangstig die niet, en meng u met hen niet; want Ik zal u van het land der kinderen Ammons geen erfenis geven, dewijl Ik het aan Lots kinderen ter erfenis gegeven heb. 20Dit werd ook voor een land der reuzen gehouden; de reuzen woonden te voren daarin, en de Ammonieten noemden hen Zamzummieten; 21Een groot, en menigvuldig, en lang volk, als de Enakieten; en de HEERE verdelgde hen voor hun aangezicht, zodat zij hen uit de bezitting verdreven, en aan hunlieder plaats woonden; 22Gelijk als Hij aan de kinderen van Ezau, die in Seir wonen, gedaan heeft, voor welker aangezicht Hij de Horieten verdelgde; en zij verdreven hen uit de bezitting, en hebben aan hun plaats gewoond tot op dezen dag. 23Ook hebben de Kafthorieten, die uit Kafthor uittogen, de Avieten, die in Hazerim tot Gaza toe woonden, verdelgd, en aan hun plaats gewoond. 24Maakt u op, reist heen, en gaat over de beek Arnon; ziet, Ik heb Sihon, den koning van Hesbon, den Amoriet, en zijn land, in uw hand gegeven; begint te erven, en mengt u met hen in den strijd. 25Te dezen dage zal Ik beginnen uw schrik en uw vreze te geven over het aangezicht der volken, onder den gansen hemel; die uw gerucht zullen horen, die zullen sidderen, en bang zijn van uw aangezicht. 26Toen zond ik boden uit de woestijn Kedemot tot Sihon, den koning van Hesbon, met woorden van vrede, zeggende: 27Laat mij door uw land doortrekken; ik zal alleenlijk langs den weg voorttrekken; ik zal noch ter rechterhand noch ter linkerhand uitwijken. 28Verkoop mij spijze voor geld, dat ik ete, en geef mij water voor geld, dat ik drinke; alleenlijk laat mij op mijn voeten doortrekken; 29Gelijk de kinderen van Ezau, die in Seir wonen, en de Moabieten, die in Ar wonen, mij gedaan hebben; totdat ik over de Jordaan kome in het land, dat de HEERE, onze God, ons geven zal. 30Maar Sihon, de koning van Hesbon, wilde ons door hetzelve niet laten doortrekken; want de HEERE,, uw God, verhardde zijn geest, en verstokte zijn hart, opdat Hij hem in uw hand gave, gelijk het is te dezen dage. 31En de HEERE zeide tot mij: Zie, Ik heb begonnen Sihon en zijn land voor uw aangezicht te geven; begin dan te erven, om zijn land erfelijk te bezitten. 32En Sihon toog uit ons tegemoet, hij en al zijn volk, ten strijde, naar Jahaz. 33En de HEERE, onze God, gaf hem voor ons aangezicht; en wij sloegen hem, en zijn zonen, en al zijn volk. 34En wij namen te dier tijd al zijn steden in, en wij verbanden alle steden, mannen, en vrouwen, en kinderkens; wij lieten niemand overblijven. 35Het vee alleen roofden wij voor ons, en den roof der steden, die wij innamen. 36Van Aroer af, dat aan den oever der beek Arnon is, en de stad, die aan de beek is, ook tot Gilead toe, was er geen stad, die voor ons te hoog was; de HEERE, onze God, gaf dat alles voor ons aangezicht. 37Behalve tot het land van de kinderen Ammons naderdet gij niet, noch tot de ganse streek der beek Jabbok, noch tot de steden van het gebergte, noch tot iets, dat de HEERE, onze God, ons verboden had.
