1Δεν θέλει είσθαι όμως τοιούτον θάμβωμα εις την γην την τεθλιμμένην· εν τοις προτέροις καιροίς εξουθένωσε την γην Ζαβουλών και την γην Νεφθαλείμ· εν δε τοις υστέροις έκαμεν ένδοξα τα μέρη τα προς την οδόν της θαλάσσης, πέραν του Ιορδάνου, την Γαλιλαίαν των εθνών. 2Ο λαός ο περιπατών εν τω σκότει είδε φως μέγα· εις τους καθημένους εν γη σκιάς θανάτου, φως έλαμψεν επ' αυτούς. 3Επολλαπλασίασας το έθνος, ηύξησας εις αυτήν την χαράν· χαίρουσιν έμπροσθέν σου κατά την χαράν του θερισμού, καθώς αγάλλονται οι διαμεριζόμενοι τα λάφυρα. 4Διότι συ συνέτριψας τον ζυγόν του φορτίου αυτού και την ράβδον του ώμου αυτού και την μάστιγα του καταδυναστεύοντος αυτόν, καθώς εν τη ημέρα του Μαδιάμ. 5Διότι πάσα περικνημίς πολεμιστού μαχομένου μετά θορύβου και πάσα στολή κεκυλισμένη εις αίματα θέλει είσθαι διά καύσιν και ύλην πυρός. 6Διότι παιδίον εγεννήθη εις ημάς, υιός εδόθη εις ημάς· και η εξουσία θέλει είσθαι επί τον ώμον αυτού· και το όνομα αυτού θέλει καλεσθή Θαυμαστός, Σύμβουλος, Θεός ισχυρός, Πατήρ του μέλλοντος αιώνος, Άρχων ειρήνης. 7Εις την αύξησιν της εξουσίας αυτού και της ειρήνης δεν θέλει είσθαι τέλος, επί τον θρόνον του Δαβίδ και επί την βασιλείαν αυτού, διά να διατάξη αυτήν και να στερεώση αυτήν εν κρίσει και δικαιοσύνη από του νυν και έως αιώνος. Ο ζήλος του Κυρίου των δυνάμεων θέλει εκτελέσει τούτο. 8Ο Κύριος απέστειλε λόγον κατά του Ιακώβ και έπεσεν επί τον Ισραήλ. 9Και πας ο λαός θέλει γνωρίσει τούτο, ο Εφραΐμ και ο κάτοικος της Σαμαρείας, οίτινες λέγουσιν υπερηφάνως και με έπαρσιν καρδίας, 10οι πλίνθοι έπεσον, πλην ημείς θέλομεν κτίσει με πελεκητάς πέτρας· αι συκομορέαι εκόπησαν, πλην ημείς θέλομεν αλλάξει αυτάς εις κέδρους. 11Διά τούτο ο Κύριος θέλει εξεγείρει τους εχθρούς του Ρεσίν εναντίον αυτού και συνενώσει τους πολεμίους αυτού· 12τους Συρίους έμπροσθεν και τους Φιλισταίους όπισθεν· και θέλουσι καταφάγει τον Ισραήλ με ανοικτόν στόμα. Εν πάσι τούτοις ο θυμός αυτού δεν απεστράφη, αλλ' η χειρ αυτού είναι έτι εξηπλωμένη. 13Πλην ο λαός δεν επιστρέφει προς τον πατάξαντα αυτόν, ουδέ εκζητούσι τον Κύριον των δυνάμεων. 14Διά τούτο ο Κύριος θέλει εκκόψει από του Ισραήλ κεφαλήν και ουράν, κλάδον και σπάρτον, εν μιά ημέρα. 15Ο πρεσβύτης και ο έντιμος, αυτός είναι η κεφαλή· και ο προφήτης όστις διδάσκει ψεύδη, αυτός είναι η ουρά. 16Διότι οι μακαρίζοντες τον λαόν τούτον πλανώσιν αυτόν· και οι μακαριζόμενοι υπ' αυτών αφανίζονται. 17Διά τούτο ο Κύριος δεν θέλει ευφρανθή εις τους νεανίσκους αυτών, ουδέ θέλει ελεήσει τους ορφανούς και τας χήρας αυτών· επειδή πάντες είναι υποκριταί και κακοποιοί, και παν στόμα λαλεί ασεβώς. Εν πάσι τούτοις ο θυμός αυτού δεν απεστράφη, αλλ' η χειρ αυτού είναι έτι εξηπλωμένη. 18Διότι η ανομία αφανίζει ως το πυρ, το κατατρώγον τους τριβόλους και τας ακάνθας και το φλέγον εν τοις πυκνοτάτοις του δάσους· και αυτά θέλουσιν αναβή εις στήλην περιτυλισσομένου καπνού. 19Από του θυμού του Κυρίου των δυνάμεων η γη εσκοτίσθη, και ο λαός θέλει είσθαι ως ύλη πυρός· άνθρωπος δεν θέλει ελεήσει τον αδελφόν αυτού. 20Και θέλει αρπάσει εις τα δεξιά, πλην θέλει πεινάσει· και θέλει φάγει εις τα αριστερά, πλην δεν θέλει χορτασθή· θέλουσι φάγει πας άνθρωπος την σάρκα του βραχίονος αυτού· 21ο Μανασσής τον Εφραΐμ και ο Εφραΐμ τον Μανασσήν· και αυτοί ομού θέλουσιν είσθαι εναντίον του Ιούδα. Εν πάσι τούτοις ο θυμός αυτού δεν απεστράφη, αλλ' η χειρ αυτού είναι έτι εξηπλωμένη.
1But there shall be no more gloom for her who was in anguish. In the former time, he brought into contempt the land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali; but in the latter time he has made it glorious, by the way of the sea, beyond the Jordan, Galilee of the nations. 2The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light. Those who lived in the land of the shadow of death, on them the light has shined. 3You have multiplied the nation. You have increased their joy. They rejoice before you according to the joy in harvest, as men rejoice when they divide the plunder. 4For the yoke of his burden, and the staff of his shoulder, the rod of his oppressor, you have broken as in the day of Midian. 5For all the armor of the armed man in the noisy battle, and the garments rolled in blood, will be for burning, fuel for the fire. 6For to us a child is born. To us a son is given; and the government will be on his shoulders. His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. 7Of the increase of his government and of peace there shall be no end, on the throne of David, and on his kingdom, to establish it, and to uphold it with justice and with righteousness from that time on, even forever. The zeal of Yahweh of Armies will perform this. 8The Lord sent a word into Jacob, and it falls on Israel. 9All the people will know, including Ephraim and the inhabitants of Samaria, who say in pride and in arrogance of heart, 10“The bricks have fallen, but we will build with cut stone. The sycamore fig trees have been cut down, but we will put cedars in their place.” 11Therefore Yahweh will set up on high against him the adversaries of Rezin, and will stir up his enemies, 12The Syrians in front, and the Philistines behind; and they will devour Israel with open mouth. For all this, his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still. 13Yet the people have not turned to him who struck them, neither have they sought Yahweh of Armies. 14Therefore Yahweh will cut off from Israel head and tail, palm branch and reed, in one day. 15The elder and the honorable man is the head, and the prophet who teaches lies is the tail. 16For those who lead this people lead them astray; and those who are led by them are destroyed. 17Therefore the Lord will not rejoice over their young men, neither will he have compassion on their fatherless and widows; for everyone is profane and an evildoer, and every mouth speaks folly. For all this his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still. 18For wickedness burns like a fire. It devours the briers and thorns; yes, it kindles in the thickets of the forest, and they roll upward in a column of smoke. 19Through the wrath of Yahweh of Armies, the land is burnt up; and the people are the fuel for the fire. No one spares his brother. 20One will devour on the right hand, and be hungry; and he will eat on the left hand, and they will not be satisfied. Everyone will eat the flesh of his own arm: 21Manasseh, Ephraim; and Ephraim, Manasseh; and they together shall be against Judah. For all this his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still.

De ijver des HEEREN der heirscharen zal zulks doen. 8De Heere heeft een woord gezonden in Jakob, en het is gevallen in Israel. 9En al dit volk zal het gewaar worden, Efraim en de inwoner van Samaria; in hoogmoed en grootsheid des harten, zeggende: 10De tichelstenen zijn gevallen, maar met uitgehouwen stenen zullen wij wederom bouwen; de wilde vijgebomen zijn afgehouwen, maar wij zullen ze in cederen veranderen; 11Want de HEERE zal Rezins tegenpartijders tegen hem verheffen, en Hij zal zijn vijanden samen vermengen: 12De Syriers van voren, en de Filistijnen van achteren, dat zij Israel opeten met vollen mond. Om dit alles keert Zijn toorn zich niet af, maar Zijn hand is nog uitgestrekt. 13Want dit volk keert zich niet tot Dien, Die het slaat, en den HEERE der heirscharen zoeken zij niet. 14Daarom zal de HEERE afhouwen uit Israel den kop en den staart, den tak en de bieze, op een dag. 15(De oude en aanzienlijke, die is de kop; maar de profeet, die valsheid leert, die is de staart.) 16Want de leiders dezes volks zijn verleiders, en die van hen geleid worden, worden ingeslokt. 17Daarom zal zich de Heere niet verblijden over hun jongelingen, en hunner wezen en hunner weduwen zal Hij zich niet ontfermen, want zij zijn allen te zamen huichelaars en boosdoeners, en alle mond spreekt dwaasheid. Om dit alles keert Zijn toorn zich niet af, maar Zijn hand is nog uitgestrekt. 18Want de goddeloosheid brandt als vuur, doornen en distelen zal zij verteren, en zal aansteken de verwarde struiken des wouds, die zich verheven hebben als de verheffing des rooks. 19Vanwege de verbolgenheid des HEEREN der heirscharen, zal het land verduisterd worden; en het volk zal zijn als een voedsel des vuurs: de een zal den ander niet verschonen. 20Zo hij ter rechterhand snijdt, zal hij toch hongeren, en zo hij ter linkerhand eet, zal hij toch niet verzadigd worden; een iegelijk zal het vlees zijns arms eten; 21Manasse Efraim, en Efraim Manasse, en zij zullen te zamen tegen Juda zijn. Om dit alles keert Zijn toorn zich niet af, maar Zijn hand is nog uitgestrekt.
