1Ουαί εις την Αριήλ, την Αριήλ, την πόλιν όπου κατώκησεν ο Δαβίδ· προσθέσατε ενιαυτόν επί ενιαυτόν· ας σφάζωσιν εορταστικάς θυσίας. 2Αλλ' εγώ θέλω στενοχωρήσει την Αριήλ, και εκεί θέλει είσθαι βάρος και θλίψις· και εις εμέ θέλει είσθαι ως Αριήλ. 3Και θέλω στρατοπεδεύσει εναντίον σου κύκλω, και θέλω στήσει πολιορκίαν κατά σου με χαράκωμα, και θέλω ανεγείρει φρούρια εναντίον σου. 4Και θέλεις ριφθή κάτω, θέλεις λαλεί από του εδάφους και η λαλιά σου θέλει είσθαι ταπεινή εκ του χώματος, και η φωνή σου εκ του εδάφους θέλει είσθαι ως του εγγαστριμύθου και η λαλιά σου θέλει ψιθυρίζει εκ του χώματος. 5Το δε πλήθος των εχθρών σου θέλει είσθαι ως κονιορτός και το πλήθος των φοβερών ως άχυρον φερόμενον υπό ανέμου· ναι, τούτο θέλει γείνει αιφνιδίως εν μιά στιγμή. 6Θέλει γείνει εις σε επίσκεψις παρά του Κυρίου των δυνάμεων, μετά βροντής και μετά σεισμού και φωνής μεγάλης, μετά ανεμοζάλης και ανεμοστροβίλου και φλογός πυρός κατατρώγοντος. 7Και το πλήθος πάντων των εθνών των πολεμούντων εναντίον της Αριήλ, πάντες βεβαίως οι μαχόμενοι εναντίον αυτής και των οχυρωμάτων αυτής και οι στενοχωρούντες αυτήν θέλουσιν είσθαι ως όνειρον νυκτερινού οράματος. 8Καθώς μάλιστα ο πεινών ονειρεύεται ότι ιδού, τρώγει· πλην εξεγείρεται και η ψυχή αυτού είναι κενή· ή καθώς ο διψών ονειρεύεται ότι ιδού, πίνει· πλην εξεγείρεται και ιδού, είναι ητονημένος και η ψυχή αυτού διψά· ούτω θέλουσιν είσθαι τα πλήθη πάντων των εθνών των πολεμούντων εναντίον του όρους Σιών. 9Στήτε και θαυμάσατε· αναβοήσατε και ανακράξατε· ούτοι μεθύουσιν αλλ' ουχί υπό οίνου· παραφέρονται αλλ' ουχί υπό σίκερα. 10Διότι ο Κύριος εξέχεεν εφ' υμάς πνεύμα βαθέος ύπνου και έκλεισε τους οφθαλμούς υμών· περιεκάλυψε τους προφήτας και τους άρχοντας υμών, τους βλέποντας οράσεις. 11Και πάσα όρασις θέλει είσθαι εις εσάς ως λόγια εσφραγισμένου βιβλίου, το οποίον ήθελον δώσει εις τινά εξεύροντα να αναγινώσκη, λέγοντες, Ανάγνωθι τούτο, παρακαλώ· και εκείνος λέγει, Δεν δύναμαι, διότι είναι εσφραγισμένον· 12και δίδουσι το βιβλίον εις μη εξεύροντα να αναγινώσκη και λέγουσιν, Ανάγνωθι τούτο, παρακαλώ· και εκείνος λέγει, δεν εξεύρω να αναγινώσκω. 13Διά τούτο ο Κύριος λέγει, Επειδή ο λαός ούτος με πλησιάζει διά του στόματος αυτού και με τιμά διά των χειλέων αυτού, αλλ' η καρδία αυτού απέχει μακράν απ' εμού, και με σέβονται, διδάσκοντες διδασκαλίας, εντάλματα ανθρώπων· 14διά τούτο, ιδού, θέλω προσθέσει να κάμω θαυμαστόν έργον μεταξύ τούτου του λαού, θαυμαστόν έργον και εξαίσιον· διότι η σοφία των σοφών αυτού θέλει χαθή και η σύνεσις των συνετών αυτού θέλει κρυφθή. 15Ουαί εις τους σκάπτοντας βαθέως διά να κρύψωσι την βουλήν αυτών από του Κυρίου, και των οποίων τα έργα είναι εν τω σκότει, και λέγουσι, Τις βλέπει ημάς; και τις εξεύρει ημάς; 16Ω διεστραμμένοι, ο κεραμεύς θέλει νομισθή ως πηλός; το πλάσμα θέλει ειπεί περί του πλάσαντος αυτό, ούτος δεν με έπλασεν; ή το ποίημα θέλει ειπεί περί του ποιήσαντος αυτό, Ούτος δεν είχε νόησιν; 17Δεν θέλει είσθαι έτι πολύ ολίγος καιρός και ο Λίβανος θέλει μεταβληθή εις καρποφόρον πεδιάδα, και η καρποφόρος πεδιάς θέλει λογισθή ως δάσος; 18Και εν εκείνη τη ημέρα οι κωφοί θέλουσιν ακούσει τους λόγους του βιβλίου, και οι οφθαλμοί των τυφλών θέλουσιν ιδεί, ελευθερωθέντες εκ του σκότους και εκ της ομίχλης. 19Και οι πραείς θέλουσιν επαυξήσει την χαράν αυτών εν Κυρίω, και οι πτωχοί των ανθρώπων θέλουσιν ευφρανθή διά τον Άγιον του Ισραήλ. 20Διότι ο τρομερός εξέλιπε και ο χλευαστής εξωλοθρεύθη και πάντες οι παραφυλάττοντες την ανομίαν εξηλείφθησαν· 21οίτινες κάμνουσι τον άνθρωπον πταίστην διά ένα λόγον, και στήνουσι παγίδα εις τον ελέγχοντα εν τη πύλη, και με ψεύδος διαστρέφουσι το δίκαιον. 22Όθεν ο Κύριος ο λυτρώσας τον Αβραάμ ούτω λέγει περί του οίκου Ιακώβ· ο Ιακώβ δεν θέλει πλέον αισχυνθή, και το πρόσωπον αυτού δεν θέλει πλέον ωχριάσει. 23Αλλ' όταν ίδη τα τέκνα αυτού, το έργον των χειρών μου, εν μέσω αυτού, θέλουσιν αγιάσει το όνομά μου και θέλουσιν αγιάσει τον Άγιον του Ιακώβ και θέλουσι φοβείσθαι τον Θεόν του Ισραήλ. 24Οι δε πλανώμενοι κατά το πνεύμα θέλουσιν ελθεί εις σύνεσιν, και οι γογγύζοντες θέλουσι μάθει διδασκαλίαν.
1Woe to Ariel! Ariel, the city where David encamped! Add year to year; let the feasts come around; 2then I will distress Ariel, and there will be mourning and lamentation. She shall be to me as an altar hearth. 3I will encamp against you all around you, and will lay siege against you with posted troops. I will raise siege works against you. 4You will be brought down, and will speak out of the ground. Your speech will mumble out of the dust. Your voice will be as of one who has a familiar spirit, out of the ground, and your speech will whisper out of the dust. 5But the multitude of your foes will be like fine dust, and the multitude of the ruthless ones like chaff that blows away. Yes, it will be in an instant, suddenly. 6She will be visited by Yahweh of Armies with thunder, with earthquake, with great noise, with whirlwind and storm, and with the flame of a devouring fire. 7The multitude of all the nations that fight against Ariel, even all who fight against her and her stronghold, and who distress her, will be like a dream, a vision of the night. 8It will be like when a hungry man dreams, and behold, he eats; but he awakes, and his hunger isn’t satisfied; or like when a thirsty man dreams, and behold, he drinks; but he awakes, and behold, he is faint, and he is still thirsty. The multitude of all the nations that fight against Mount Zion will be like that. 9Pause and wonder! Blind yourselves and be blind! They are drunken, but not with wine; they stagger, but not with strong drink. 10For Yahweh has poured out on you a spirit of deep sleep, and has closed your eyes, the prophets; and he has covered your heads, the seers. 11All vision has become to you like the words of a book that is sealed, which men deliver to one who is educated, saying, “Read this, please”; and he says, “I can’t, for it is sealed:” 12and the book is delivered to one who is not educated, saying, “Read this, please”; and he says, “I can’t read.” 13The Lord said, “Because this people draws near with their mouth and with their lips to honor me, but they have removed their heart far from me, and their fear of me is a commandment of men which has been taught; 14therefore, behold, I will proceed to do a marvelous work among this people, even a marvelous work and a wonder; and the wisdom of their wise men will perish, and the understanding of their prudent men will be hidden.” 15Woe to those who deeply hide their counsel from Yahweh, and whose works are in the dark, and who say, “Who sees us?” and “Who knows us?” 16You turn things upside down! Should the potter be thought to be like clay; that the thing made should say about him who made it, “He didn’t make me”; or the thing formed say of him who formed it, “He has no understanding?” 17Isn’t it yet a very little while, and Lebanon will be turned into a fruitful field, and the fruitful field will be regarded as a forest? 18In that day, the deaf will hear the words of the book, and the eyes of the blind will see out of obscurity and out of darkness. 19The humble also will increase their joy in Yahweh, and the poor among men will rejoice in the Holy One of Israel. 20For the ruthless is brought to nothing, and the scoffer ceases, and all those who are alert to do evil are cut off— 21who cause a person to be indicted by a word, and lay a snare for the arbiter in the gate, and who deprive the innocent of justice with false testimony. 22Therefore thus says Yahweh, who redeemed Abraham, concerning the house of Jacob: “Jacob shall no longer be ashamed, neither shall his face grow pale. 23But when he sees his children, the work of my hands, in the midst of him, they will sanctify my name. Yes, they will sanctify the Holy One of Jacob, and will stand in awe of the God of Israel. 24They also who err in spirit will come to understanding, and those who grumble will receive instruction.”
1Wee Ariel, Ariel! de stad, waarin David gelegerd heeft; doet jaar tot jaar; laat ze feestofferen slachten. 2Evenwel zal Ik Ariel beangstigen, en er zal treuring en droefheid wezen, en die stad zal Mij gelijk Ariel zijn. 3Want Ik zal een leger in het rond om u slaan, en Ik zal u belegeren met bolwerken, en Ik zal vestingen tegen u opwerpen. 4Dan zult gij vernederd worden, gij zult uit de aarde spreken, en uw spraak zal uit het stof zachtjes voortkomen; en uw stem zal zijn uit de aarde als van een tovenaar, en uw spraak zal uit het stof piepen. 5En de menigte uwer vreemde soldaten zal zijn gelijk dun stof, en de menigte der tirannen als voorbijvliegend kaf; en het zal in een ogenblik haastelijk geschieden. 6Gij zult van den HEERE der heirscharen bezocht worden met donder, en met aardbeving, en groot geluid, met wervelwind, en onweder, en de vlam eens verterenden vuurs. 7En gelijk de droom van een nachtgezicht is, alzo zal de veelheid aller heidenen zijn, die tegen Ariel strijden zullen; zelfs allen, die tegen haar en haar vestingen strijden, en haar beangstigen zullen. 8Het zal alzo zijn, gelijk wanneer een hongerige droomt, en ziet, hij eet; maar als hij ontwaakt, zo is zijn ziel ledig; of, gelijk als wanneer een dorstige droomt, en ziet, hij drinkt; maar als hij ontwaakt, ziet, zo is hij nog mat, en zijn ziel is begerig; alzo zal de menigte aller heidenen zijn, die tegen den berg Sion krijgen. 9Zij vertoeven, daarom verwondert u; zij zijn vrolijk, derhalve roept gijlieden; zij zijn dronken, maar niet van wijn; zij waggelen, maar niet van sterken drank. 10Want de HEERE heeft over ulieden uitgegoten een geest des diepen slaaps, en Hij heeft uw ogen toegesloten; de profeten, en uw hoofden, en de zieners heeft Hij verblind. 11Daarom is ulieden alle gezicht geworden als de woorden van een verzegeld boek, hetwelk men geeft aan een, die lezen kan, zeggende: Lees toch dit; en hij zegt: Ik kan niet, want het is verzegeld. 12Of men geeft het boek aan een, die niet lezen kan, zeggende: Lees toch dit; en hij zegt: Ik kan niet lezen. 13Want de Heere heeft gezegd: Daarom dat dit volk tot Mij nadert met zijn mond, en zij Mij met hun lippen eren, doch hun hart verre van Mij doen; en hun vreze, waarmede zij Mij vrezen, mensengeboden zijn, die hun geleerd zijn; 14Daarom, ziet, Ik zal voorts wonderlijk handelen met dit volk, wonderlijk en wonderbaarlijk; want de wijsheid zijner wijzen zal vergaan, en het verstand zijner verstandigen zal zich verbergen. 15Wee dengenen, die zich diep versteken willen voor den HEERE, hun raad verbergende; en welker werken in duisterheid geschieden, en zij zeggen: Wie ziet ons, en wie kent ons? 16Ulieder omkeren is, alsof de pottenbakker geacht werd als leem, dat het maaksel zeide van zijn maker: Hij heeft mij niet gemaakt; en het geformeerde vat van zijn pottenbakker zeide: Hij verstaat het niet. 17Is het niet nog om een klein weinig, dat de Libanon in een vruchtbaar veld zal veranderd worden, en het vruchtbare veld voor een woud geacht zal worden? 18En te dien dage zullen de doven horen de woorden des Boeks; en de ogen der blinden, zijnde uit de donkerheid en uit de duisternis, zullen zien. 19En de zachtmoedigen zullen vreugde op vreugde hebben in den HEERE; en de behoeftigen onder de mensen zullen zich in de Heilige Israels verheugen. 20Wanneer de tiran een einde zal hebben, en dat het met den bespotter uit zal zijn, en dat allen, die tot ongerechtigheid waken, uitgeroeid zullen zijn; 21Die een mens schuldig maken om een woord, en leggen dien strikken, die hen bestraft in de poort; en die den rechtvaardige verdrijven in het woeste. 22Daarom zegt de HEERE, Die Abraham verlost heeft, tot het huis van Jakob alzo: Jakob zal nu niet meer beschaamd worden, en nu zal zijn aangezicht niet meer bleek worden; 23Want als hij zijn kinderen, het werk Mijner handen, zien zal in het midden van hen, zullen zij Mijn Naam heiligen; en zij zullen den Heilige Jakobs heiligen, en den God van Israel vrezen. 24En die dwalende van geest zijn, zullen tot verstand komen, en de murmureerders zullen de lering aannemen.
