1Allora Mosè e i figliuoli d’Israele cantarono questo cantico all’Eterno, e dissero così: "Io cantero all’Eterno perché si è sommamente esaltato; ha precipitato in mare cavallo e cavaliere. 2L’Eterno è la mia forza e l’oggetto del mio cantico; egli è stato la mia salvezza. Questo è il mio Dio, io lo glorificherò; è l’Iddio di mio padre, io lo esalterò. 3L’Eterno è un guerriero, il suo nome è l’Eterno. 4Egli ha gettato in mare i carri di Faraone e il suo esercito, e i migliori suoi condottieri sono stati sommersi nel mar Rosso. 5Gli abissi li coprono; sono andati a fondo come una pietra. 6La tua destra, o Eterno, è mirabile per la sua forza, la tua destra, o Eterno, schiaccia i nemici. 7Con la grandezza della tua maestà, tu rovesci i tuoi avversari; tu scateni la tua ira, essa li consuma come stoppia. 8Al soffio delle tue nari le acque si sono ammontate, le onde si son drizzate come un muro, i flutti si sono assodati nel cuore del mare. 9Il nemico diceva: "Inseguirò, raggiungerò, dividerò le spoglie, la mia brama si sazierà su loro; sguainerò la mia spada, la mia mano li sterminerà"; 10ma tu hai mandato fuori il tuo soffio e il mare li ha ricoperti; sono affondati come piombo nelle acque potenti. 11Chi è pari a te fra gli dèi, o Eterno? Chi è pari a te, mirabile nella tua santità, tremendo anche a chi ti loda, operator di prodigi? 12Tu hai steso la destra, la terra li ha ingoiati. 13Tu hai condotto con la tua benignità il popolo che hai riscattato; l’hai guidato con la tua forza verso la tua santa dimora. 14I popoli l’hanno udito, e tremano. L’angoscia ha còlto gli abitanti della Filistia. 15Già sono smarriti i capi di Edom, il tremito prende i potenti di Moab, tutti gli abitanti di Canaan vengono meno. 16Spavento e terrore piomberà su loro. Per la forza del tuo braccio diventeran muti come una pietra, finché il tuo popolo, o Eterno, sia passato, finché sia passato il popolo che ti sei acquistato. 17Tu li introdurrai e li pianterai sul monte del tuo retaggio, nel luogo che hai preparato, o Eterno, per tua dimora, nel santuario che le tue mani, o Signore, hanno stabilito. 18L’Eterno regnerà per sempre, in perpetuo". 19Questo cantarono gl’Israeliti perché i cavalli di Faraone coi suoi carri e i suoi cavalieri erano entrati nel mare, e l’Eterno avea fatto ritornar su loro le acque del mare, ma i figliuoli d’Israele aveano camminato in mezzo al mare, sull’asciutto. 20E Maria, la profetessa, sorella d’Aaronne, prese in mano il timpano, e tutte le donne usciron dietro a lei con de’ timpani, e danzando. 21E Maria rispondeva ai figliuoli d’Israele: "Cantate all’Eterno, perché si è sommamente esaltato; ha precipitato in mare cavallo e cavaliere". 22Poi Mosè fece partire gl’Israeliti dal Mar Rosso, ed essi si diressero verso il deserto di Shur; camminarono tre giorni nel deserto, e non trovarono acqua. 23E quando giunsero a Mara, non poteron bevere le acque di Mara, perché erano amare; perciò quel luogo fu chiamato Mara. 24E il popolo mormorò contro Mosè, dicendo: "Che berremo?" 25Ed egli gridò all’Eterno; e l’Eterno gli mostrò un legno ch’egli gettò nelle acque, e le acque divennero dolci. Quivi l’Eterno dette al popolo una legge e una prescrizione, e lo mise alla prova, e disse: 26"Se ascolti attentamente la voce dell’Eterno, ch’è il tuo Dio, e fai ciò ch’è giusto agli occhi suoi e porgi orecchio ai suoi comandamenti e osservi tutte le sue leggi, io non ti manderò addosso alcuna delle malattie che ho mandate addosso agli Egiziani, perché io sono l’Eterno che ti guarisco". 27Poi giunsero ad Elim, dov’erano dodici sorgenti d’acqua e settanta palme; e si accamparono quivi presso le acque.
1Then Moses and the children of Israel sang this song to Yahweh, and said, “I will sing to Yahweh, for he has triumphed gloriously. The horse and his rider he has thrown into the sea. 2Yah is my strength and song. He has become my salvation. This is my God, and I will praise him; my father’s God, and I will exalt him. 3Yahweh is a man of war. Yahweh is his name. 4He has cast Pharaoh’s chariots and his army into the sea. His chosen captains are sunk in the Red Sea. 5The deeps cover them. They went down into the depths like a stone. 6Your right hand, Yahweh, is glorious in power. Your right hand, Yahweh, dashes the enemy in pieces. 7In the greatness of your excellency, you overthrow those who rise up against you. You send out your wrath. It consumes them as stubble. 8With the blast of your nostrils, the waters were piled up. The floods stood upright as a heap. The deeps were congealed in the heart of the sea. 9The enemy said, ‘I will pursue. I will overtake. I will divide the plunder. My desire shall be satisfied on them. I will draw my sword, my hand shall destroy them.’ 10You blew with your wind. The sea covered them. They sank like lead in the mighty waters. 11Who is like you, Yahweh, among the gods? Who is like you, glorious in holiness, fearful in praises, doing wonders? 12You stretched out your right hand. The earth swallowed them. 13“You, in your loving kindness, have led the people that you have redeemed. You have guided them in your strength to your holy habitation. 14The peoples have heard. They tremble. Pangs have taken hold on the inhabitants of Philistia. 15Then the chiefs of Edom were dismayed. Trembling takes hold of the mighty men of Moab. All the inhabitants of Canaan are melted away. 16Terror and dread falls on them. By the greatness of your arm they are as still as a stone— until your people pass over, Yahweh, until the people pass over who you have purchased. 17You shall bring them in, and plant them in the mountain of your inheritance, the place, Yahweh, which you have made for yourself to dwell in; the sanctuary, Lord, which your hands have established. 18Yahweh shall reign forever and ever.” 19For the horses of Pharaoh went in with his chariots and with his horsemen into the sea, and Yahweh brought back the waters of the sea on them; but the children of Israel walked on dry land in the midst of the sea. 20Miriam the prophetess, the sister of Aaron, took a tambourine in her hand; and all the women went out after her with tambourines and with dances. 21Miriam answered them, “Sing to Yahweh, for he has triumphed gloriously. The horse and his rider he has thrown into the sea.” 22Moses led Israel onward from the Red Sea, and they went out into the wilderness of Shur; and they went three days in the wilderness, and found no water. 23When they came to Marah, they couldn’t drink from the waters of Marah, for they were bitter. Therefore its name was called Marah. 24The people murmured against Moses, saying, “What shall we drink?” 25Then he cried to Yahweh. Yahweh showed him a tree, and he threw it into the waters, and the waters were made sweet. There he made a statute and an ordinance for them, and there he tested them; 26and he said, “If you will diligently listen to Yahweh your God’s voice, and will do that which is right in his eyes, and will pay attention to his commandments, and keep all his statutes, I will put none of the diseases on you, which I have put on the Egyptians; for I am Yahweh who heals you.” 27They came to Elim, where there were twelve springs of water, and seventy palm trees: and they encamped there by the waters.

Uw rechterhand is verheerlijkt geworden in macht; Uw rechterhand, o HEERE! heeft den vijand verbroken! 7En door Uw grote hoogheid hebt Gij, die tegen U opstonden, omgeworpen; Gij hebt Uw brandenden toorn uitgezonden, die hen verteerd heeft als een stoppel. 8En door het geblaas van Uw neus zijn de wateren opgehoopt geworden; de stromen hebben overeind gestaan, als een hoop; de afgronden zijn stof geworden in het hart der zee. 9De vijand zeide: Ik zal vervolgen, ik zal achterhalen, ik zal den buit delen, mijn ziel zal van hen vervuld worden, ik zal mijn zwaard uittrekken, mijn hand zal hen uitroeien. 10Gij hebt met Uw wind geblazen; de zee heeft hen gedekt, zij zonken onder als lood in geweldige wateren! 11O HEERE! wie is als Gij onder de goden? wie is als Gij, verheerlijkt in heiligheid, vreselijk in lofzangen, doende wonder? 12Gij hebt Uw rechterhand uitgestrekt, de aarde heeft hen verslonden! 13Gij leiddet door Uw weldadigheid dit volk, dat Gij verlost hebt; Gij voert hen zachtkens door Uw sterkte tot de liefelijke woning Uwer heiligheid. 14De volken hebben het gehoord, zij zullen sidderen; weedom heeft de ingezetenen van Palestina bevangen. 15Dan zullen de vorsten van Edom verbaasd wezen; beving zal de machtigen der Moabieten bevangen; al de ingezetenen van Kanaan zullen versmelten! 16Verschrikking en vrees zal op hen vallen; door de grootheid van Uw arm zullen zij verstommen, als een steen, totdat Uw volk, HEERE! henen doorkome; totdat dit volk henen doorkome, dat Gij verworven hebt. 17Die zult Gij inbrengen, en planten hen op den berg Uwer erfenis, ter plaatse, welke Gij, o HEERE! gemaakt hebt tot Uw woning, het heiligdom, hetwelk Uw handen gesticht hebben, o HEERE! 18De HEERE zal in eeuwigheid en geduriglijk regeren! 19Want Farao's paard, met zijn wagen, met zijn ruiters, zijn in de zee gekomen, en de HEERE heeft de wateren der zee over hen doen wederkeren; maar de kinderen Israels zijn op het droge in het midden van de zee gegaan. 20En Mirjam, de profetes, Aarons zuster, nam een trommel in haar hand; en al de vrouwen gingen uit, haar na, met trommelen en met reien. 21Toen antwoordde Mirjam hunlieden: Zingt den HEERE; want Hij is hogelijk verheven! Hij heeft het paard met zijn ruiter in de zee gestort! 22Hierna deed Mozes de Israelieten voortreizen van de Schelfzee af; en zij trokken uit tot in de woestijn Sur, en zij gingen drie dagen in de woestijn, en vonden geen water. 23Toen kwamen zij te Mara; doch zij konden het water van Mara niet drinken, want het was bitter; daarom werd derzelver naam genoemd Mara. 24Toen murmureerde het volk tegen Mozes, zeggende: Wat zullen wij drinken? 25Hij dan riep tot den HEERE; en de HEERE wees hem een hout, dat wierp hij in dat water; toen werd het water zoet. Aldaar stelde Hij het volk een inzetting en recht, en aldaar verzocht Hij hetzelve, 26En zeide: Is het, dat gij met ernst naar de stem des HEEREN uws Gods horen zult, en doen, wat recht is in Zijn ogen, en uw oren neigt tot Zijn geboden, en houdt al Zijn inzettingen; zo zal Ik geen van de krankheden op u leggen, die Ik op Egypteland gelegd heb; want Ik ben de HEERE, uw Heelmeester! 27Toen kwamen zij te Elim, en daar waren twaalf waterfonteinen, en zeventig palmbomen; en zij legerden zich aldaar aan de wateren.
