1EN el séptimo año de Jehú comenzó á reinar Joas, y reinó cuarenta años en Jerusalem. El nombre de su madre fué Sibia, de Beer-seba. 2Y Joas hizo lo recto en ojos de Jehová todo el tiempo que le dirigió el sacerdote Joiada. 3Con todo eso los altos no se quitaron; que aun sacrificaba y quemaba el pueblo perfumes en los altos. 4Y Joas dijo á los sacerdotes: Todo el dinero de las santificaciones que se suele traer á la casa de Jehová, el dinero de los que pasan en cuenta, el dinero por las personas, cada cual según su tasa, y todo el dinero que cada uno de su propia voluntad mete en la casa de Jehová, 5Recíbanlo los sacerdotes, cada uno de sus familiares, y reparen los portillos del templo donde quiera que se hallare abertura. 6Pero el año veintitrés del rey Joas, no habían aún reparado los sacerdotes las aberturas del templo. 7Llamando entonces el rey Joas al pontífice Joiada y á los sacerdotes, díjoles: ¿Por qué no reparáis las aberturas del templo? Ahora pues, no toméis más el dinero de vuestros familiares, sino dadlo para reparar las roturas del templo. 8Y los sacerdotes consintieron en no tomar más dinero del pueblo, ni tener cargo de reparar las aberturas del templo. 9Mas el pontífice Joiada tomó un arca, é hízole en la tapa un agujero, y púsola junto al altar, á la mano derecha como se entra en el templo de Jehová; y los sacerdotes que guardaban la puerta, ponían allí todo el dinero que se metía en la casa de Jehová. 10Y cuando veían que había mucho dinero en el arca, venía el notario del rey y el gran sacerdote, y contaban el dinero que hallaban en el templo de Jehová, y guardábanlo. 11Y daban el dinero suficiente en mano de los que hacían la obra, y de los que tenían el cargo de la casa de Jehová; y ellos lo expendían en pagar los carpinteros y maestros que reparaban la casa de Jehová, 12Y los albañiles y canteros; y en comprar la madera y piedra de cantería para reparar las aberturas de la casa de Jehová; y en todo lo que se gastaba en la casa para repararla. 13Mas de aquel dinero que se traía á la casa de Jehová, no se hacían tazas de plata, ni salterios, ni jofainas, ni trompetas; ni ningún otro vaso de oro ni de plata se hacía para el templo de Jehová: 14Porque lo daban á los que hacían la obra, y con él reparaban la casa de Jehová. 15Y no se tomaba cuenta á los hombres en cuyas manos el dinero era entregado, para que ellos lo diesen á los que hacían la obra: porque lo hacían ellos fielmente. 16El dinero por el delito, y el dinero por los pecados, no se metía en la casa de Jehová; porque era de los sacerdotes. 17Entonces subió Hazael rey de Siria, y peleó contra Gath, y tomóla: y puso Hazael su rostro para subir contra Jerusalem; 18Por lo que tomó Joas rey de Judá todas las ofrendas que había dedicado Josaphat, y Joram y Ochôzías sus padres, reyes de Judá, y las que él había dedicado, y todo el oro que se halló en los tesoros de la casa de Jehová, y en la casa del rey, y enviólo á Hazael rey de Siria: y él se partió de Jerusalem. 19Lo demás de los hechos de Joas, y todas las cosas que hizo, ¿no está escrito en el libro de las crónicas de los reyes de Judá? 20Y levantáronse sus siervos, y conspiraron en conjuración, y mataron á Joas en la casa de Millo, descendiendo él á Silla; 21Pues Josachâr hijo de Simaath, y Jozabad hijo de Somer, sus siervos, hiriéronle, y murió. Y sepultáronlo con sus padres en la ciudad de David, y reinó en su lugar Amasías su hijo.
1In the seventh year of Jehu began Jehoash to reign; and he reigned forty years in Jerusalem: and his mother’s name was Zibiah of Beersheba. 2Jehoash did that which was right in the eyes of Yahweh all his days in which Jehoiada the priest instructed him. 3However the high places were not taken away; the people still sacrificed and burnt incense in the high places. 4Jehoash said to the priests, “All the money of the holy things that is brought into Yahweh’s house, in current money, the money of the persons for whom each man is rated, and all the money that it comes into any man’s heart to bring into Yahweh’s house, 5let the priests take it to them, every man from his acquaintance; and they shall repair the breaches of the house, wherever any breach shall be found.” 6But it was so, that in the twenty-third year of king Jehoash the priests had not repaired the breaches of the house. 7Then king Jehoash called for Jehoiada the priest, and for the other priests, and said to them, “Why don’t you repair the breaches of the house? Now therefore take no more money from your treasurers, but deliver it for the breaches of the house.” 8The priests consented that they should take no more money from the people, neither repair the breaches of the house. 9But Jehoiada the priest took a chest, and bored a hole in its lid, and set it beside the altar, on the right side as one comes into Yahweh’s house: and the priests who kept the threshold put therein all the money that was brought into Yahweh’s house. 10It was so, when they saw that there was much money in the chest, that the king’s scribe and the high priest came up, and they put up in bags and counted the money that was found in Yahweh’s house. 11They gave the money that was weighed out into the hands of those who did the work, who had the oversight of Yahweh’s house: and they paid it out to the carpenters and the builders, who worked on Yahweh’s house, 12and to the masons and the stone cutters, and for buying timber and cut stone to repair the breaches of Yahweh’s house, and for all that was laid out for the house to repair it. 13But there were not made for Yahweh’s house cups of silver, snuffers, basins, trumpets, any vessels of gold, or vessels of silver, of the money that was brought into Yahweh’s house; 14for they gave that to those who did the work, and repaired therewith Yahweh’s house. 15Moreover they didn’t demand an accounting from the men into whose hand they delivered the money to give to those who did the work; for they dealt faithfully. 16The money for the trespass offerings, and the money for the sin offerings, was not brought into Yahweh’s house: it was the priests’. 17Then Hazael king of Syria went up, and fought against Gath, and took it; and Hazael set his face to go up to Jerusalem. 18Jehoash king of Judah took all the holy things that Jehoshaphat and Jehoram and Ahaziah, his fathers, kings of Judah, had dedicated, and his own holy things, and all the gold that was found in the treasures of Yahweh’s house, and of the king’s house, and sent it to Hazael king of Syria: and he went away from Jerusalem. 19Now the rest of the acts of Joash, and all that he did, aren’t they written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah? 20His servants arose, and made a conspiracy, and struck Joash at the house of Millo, on the way that goes down to Silla. 21For Jozacar the son of Shimeath, and Jehozabad the son of Shomer, his servants, struck him, and he died; and they buried him with his fathers in the city of David: and Amaziah his son reigned in his place.
1In het zevende jaar van Jehu werd Joas koning, en regeerde veertig jaren te Jeruzalem; en de naam zijner moeder was Zibja van Ber-seba. 2En Joas deed dat recht was in de ogen des HEEREN, al zijn dagen, in dewelke de priester Jojada hem onderwees. 3Alleenlijk werden de hoogten niet weggenomen; het volk offerde en rookte nog op de hoogten. 4En Joas zeide tot de priesteren: Al het geld der geheiligde dingen, dat gebracht zal worden in het huis des HEEREN, te weten het geld desgenen, die overgaat tot de getelden, het geld van een ieder der personen naar zijn schatting, en al het geld, dat in ieders hart komt, om dat te brengen in het huis des HEEREN, 5Zullen de priesters tot zich nemen, een ieder van zijn bekende; en zij zullen de breuken van het huis verbeteren, naar alles wat er voor breuk bevonden zal worden. 6Maar het geschiedde in het drie en twintigste jaar van den koning Joas, dat de priesters de breuken van het huis niet gebeterd hadden. 7Toen riep de koning Joas den priester Jojada en de andere priesteren, en zeide tot hen: Waarom betert gijlieden niet de breuken van het huis? Nu dan, neemt geen geld van uw bekenden, dat gij het zoudt geven voor de breuken van het huis. 8En de priesters bewilligden van het volk geen geld te nemen, noch de breuken van het huis te verbeteren. 9Maar de priester Jojada nam een kist, en boorde een gat in haar deksel, en zette die bij het altaar ter rechterhand, als iemand inkwam in het huis des HEEREN; en de priesters, die den dorpel bewaarden, staken daarin al het geld, dat ten huize des HEEREN gebracht werd. 10Het geschiedde nu, als zij zagen, dat veel gelds in de kist was, dat des konings schrijver met den hogepriester opkwam, en zij bonden het samen, en telden het geld, dat in het huis des HEEREN gevonden werd. 11En zij gaven het geld wel gewogen in handen der verzorgers van dat werk, die gesteld waren over het huis des HEEREN; en zij besteedden het uit aan de timmerlieden en aan de bouwlieden, die het huis des HEEREN vermaakten; 12En aan de metselaren, en aan de steenhouwers, en om hout en gehouwen stenen te kopen, om de breuken van het huis des HEEREN te verbeteren, en voor al wat uitgegeven werd voor het huis, om dat te beteren. 13Evenwel werden niet gemaakt voor het huis des HEEREN zilveren schalen, gaffelen, sprengbekkens, trompetten, noch enig gouden vat, of zilveren vat, van het geld, dat ten huize des HEEREN gebracht werd. 14Maar zij gaven dat aan degenen, die het werk deden; en zij verbeterden daarmede het huis des HEEREN. 15Daartoe eisten zij geen rekening van de mannen, wien zij dat geld in hun handen gaven, om aan degenen, die het werk deden, te geven; want zij handelden trouwelijk. 16Het geld van schuldoffer, en het geld van zondofferen werd ten huize des HEEREN niet gebracht; het was voor de priesteren. 17Toen trok Hazael, de koning van Syrie op, en krijgde tegen Gath, en nam haar in; daarna stelde Hazael zijn aangezicht, om tegen Jeruzalem op te trekken. 18Maar Joas, de koning van Juda, nam al de geheiligde dingen, die Josafat, en Joram, en Ahazia, zijn vaderen, de koningen van Juda, geheiligd hadden, en zijn geheiligde dingen, en al het goud, dat gevonden werd in de schatten van het huis des HEEREN, en van het huis des konings, en zond het tot Hazael, den koning van Syrie; toen trok hij op van Jeruzalem. 19Het overige nu der geschiedenissen van Joas, en al wat hij gedaan heeft, is dat niet geschreven in het boek der kronieken der koningen van Juda? 20En zijn knechten stonden op, en maakten een verbintenis, en sloegen Joas, in het huis van Millo, dat afgaat naar Silla; 21Want Jozacar, de zoon van Simeath, en Jozabad, de zoon van Somer, zijn knechten, sloegen hem, dat hij stierf; en zij begroeven hem met zijn vaderen in de stad Davids; en Amazia, zijn zoon, werd koning in zijn plaats.
