1MAS Satanás se levantó contra Israel, é incitó á David á que contase á Israel. 2Y dijo David á Joab y á los príncipes del pueblo: Id, contad á Israel desde Beer-seba hasta Dan, y traedme el número de ellos para que yo lo sepa. 3Y dijo Joab: Añada Jehová á su pueblo cien veces otros tantos. Rey señor mío, ¿no son todos estos siervos de mi señor? ¿para qué procura mi señor esto, que será pernicioso á Israel? 4Mas el mandamiento del rey pudo más que Joab. Salió por tanto Joab, y fué por todo Israel; y volvió á Jerusalem, y dió la cuenta del número del pueblo á David. 5Y hallóse en todo Israel que sacaban espada, once veces cien mil; y de Judá cuatrocientos y setenta mil hombres que sacaban espada. 6Entre estos no fueron contados los Levitas, ni los hijos de Benjamín, porque Joab abominaba el mandamiento del rey. 7Asimismo desagradó este negocio á los ojos de Dios, é hirió á Israel. 8Y dijo David á Dios: He pecado gravemente en hacer esto: ruégote que hagas pasar la iniquidad de tu siervo, porque yo he hecho muy locamente. 9Y habló Jehová á Gad, vidente de David, diciendo: 10Ve, y habla á David, y dile: Así ha dicho Jehová: Tres cosas te propongo; escoge de ellas una que yo haga contigo. 11Y viniendo Gad á David, díjole: Así ha dicho Jehová: 12Escógete, ó tres años de hambre; ó ser por tres meses deshecho delante de tus enemigos, y que la espada de tus adversarios te alcance; ó por tres días la espada de Jehová y pestilencia en la tierra, y que el ángel de Jehová destruya en todo el término de Israel: mira pues qué he de responder al que me ha enviado. 13Entonces David dijo á Gad: Estoy en grande angustia: ruego que yo caiga en la mano de Jehová; porque sus misericordias son muchas en extremo, y que no caiga yo en manos de hombres. 14Así Jehová dió pestilencia en Israel, y cayeron de Israel setenta mil hombres. 15Y envió Jehová el ángel á Jerusalem para destruirla: pero estando él destruyendo, miró Jehová, y arrepintióse de aquel mal, 16Y dijo al ángel que destruía: Basta ya; detén tu mano. Y el ángel de Jehová estaba junto á la era de Ornán Jebuseo. 17Y alzando David sus ojos, vió al ángel de Jehová, que estaba entre el cielo y la tierra, teniendo un espada desnuda en su mano, extendida contra Jerusalem. Entonces David y los ancianos se postraron sobre sus rostros, cubiertos de sacos. 18Y dijo David á Dios: ¿No soy yo el que hizo contar el pueblo? Yo mismo soy el que pequé, y ciertamente he hecho mal; mas estas ovejas, ¿qué han hecho? Jehová Dios mío, sea ahora tu mano contra mí, y contra la casa de mi padre, y no haya plaga en tu pueblo. 19Y el ángel de Jehová ordenó á Gad que dijese á David, que subiese y construyese un altar á Jehová en la era de Ornán Jebuseo. 20Entonces David subió, conforme á la palabra de Gad que le había dicho en nombre de Jehová. 21Y volviéndose Ornán vió al ángel; por lo que se escondieron cuatro hijos suyos que con él estaban. Y Ornán trillaba el trigo. 22Y viniendo David á Ornán, miró éste, y vió á David: y saliendo de la era, postróse en tierra á David. 23Entonces dijo David á Ornán: Dame este lugar de la era, en que edifique un altar á Jehová, y dámelo por su cabal precio, para que cese la plaga del pueblo. 24Y Ornán respondió á David: Tómalo para ti, y haga mi señor el rey lo que bien le pareciere: y aun los bueyes daré para el holocausto, y los trillos para leña, y trigo para el presente: yo lo doy todo. 25Entonces el rey David dijo á Ornán: No, sino que efectivamente la compraré por su justo precio: porque no tomaré para Jehová lo que es tuyo, ni sacrificaré holocausto que nada me cueste. 26Y dió David á Ornán por el lugar seiscientos siclos de oro por peso. 27Y edificó allí David un altar á Jehová, en el que ofreció holocaustos y sacrificios pacíficos, é invocó á Jehová, el cual le respondió por fuego de los cielos en el altar del holocausto. 28Y como Jehová habló al ángel, él volvió su espada á la vaina. 29Entonces viendo David que Jehová le había oído en la era de Ornán Jebuseo, sacrificó allí. 30Y el tabernáculo de Jehová que Moisés había hecho en el desierto, y el altar del holocausto, estaban entonces en el alto de Gabaón: Mas David no pudo ir allá á consultar á Dios, porque estaba espantado á causa de la espada del ángel de Jehová.
1Satan stood up against Israel, and moved David to number Israel. 2David said to Joab and to the princes of the people, “Go, number Israel from Beersheba even to Dan; and bring me word, that I may know the sum of them.” 3Joab said, “May Yahweh make his people a hundred times as many as they are. But, my lord the king, aren’t they all my lord’s servants? Why does my lord require this thing? Why will he be a cause of guilt to Israel?” 4Nevertheless the king’s word prevailed against Joab. Therefore Joab departed, and went throughout all Israel, and came to Jerusalem. 5Joab gave up the sum of the numbering of the people to David. All those of Israel were one million one hundred thousand men who drew sword: and in Judah were four hundred seventy thousand men who drew sword. 6But he didn’t count Levi and Benjamin among them; for the king’s word was abominable to Joab. 7God was displeased with this thing; therefore he struck Israel. 8David said to God, “I have sinned greatly, in that I have done this thing. But now, put away, I beg you, the iniquity of your servant; for I have done very foolishly.” 9Yahweh spoke to Gad, David’s seer, saying, 10“Go and speak to David, saying, ‘Thus says Yahweh, “I offer you three things. Choose one of them, that I may do it to you.”’” 11So Gad came to David, and said to him, “Thus says Yahweh, ‘Take your choice: 12either three years of famine; or three months to be consumed before your foes, while the sword of your enemies overtakes you; or else three days the sword of Yahweh, even pestilence in the land, and Yahweh’s angel destroying throughout all the borders of Israel. Now therefore consider what answer I shall return to him who sent me.’” 13David said to Gad, “I am in distress. Let me fall, I pray, into the hand of Yahweh; for his mercies are very great. Let me not fall into the hand of man.” 14So Yahweh sent a pestilence on Israel; and seventy thousand men of Israel fell. 15God sent an angel to Jerusalem to destroy it. As he was about to destroy, Yahweh saw, and he relented of the disaster, and said to the destroying angel, “It is enough; now stay your hand.” Yahweh’s angel was standing by the threshing floor of Ornan the Jebusite. 16David lifted up his eyes, and saw Yahweh’s angel standing between earth and the sky, having a drawn sword in his hand stretched out over Jerusalem. Then David and the elders, clothed in sackcloth, fell on their faces. 17David said to God, “Isn’t it I who commanded the people to be numbered? It is even I who have sinned and done very wickedly; but these sheep, what have they done? Please let your hand, O Yahweh my God, be against me, and against my father’s house; but not against your people, that they should be plagued.” 18Then Yahweh’s angel commanded Gad to tell David that David should go up, and raise an altar to Yahweh in the threshing floor of Ornan the Jebusite. 19David went up at the saying of Gad, which he spoke in Yahweh’s name. 20Ornan turned back, and saw the angel; and his four sons who were with him hid themselves. Now Ornan was threshing wheat. 21As David came to Ornan, Ornan looked and saw David, and went out of the threshing floor, and bowed himself to David with his face to the ground. 22Then David said to Ornan, “Give me the place of this threshing floor, that I may build an altar to Yahweh on it. You shall sell it to me for the full price, that the plague may be stopped from afflicting the people.” 23Ornan said to David, “Take it for yourself, and let my lord the king do that which is good in his eyes. Behold, I give the oxen for burnt offerings, and the threshing instruments for wood, and the wheat for the meal offering. I give it all.” 24King David said to Ornan, “No; but I will most certainly buy it for the full price. For I will not take that which is yours for Yahweh, nor offer a burnt offering without cost.” 25So David gave to Ornan six hundred shekels of gold by weight for the place. 26David built an altar to Yahweh there, and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings, and called on Yahweh; and he answered him from the sky by fire on the altar of burnt offering. 27Yahweh commanded the angel; and he put up his sword again into its sheath. 28At that time, when David saw that Yahweh had answered him in the threshing floor of Ornan the Jebusite, then he sacrificed there. 29For Yahweh’s tabernacle, which Moses made in the wilderness, and the altar of burnt offering, were at that time in the high place at Gibeon. 30But David couldn’t go before it to inquire of God; for he was afraid because of the sword of Yahweh’s angel.
1Toen stond de satan op tegen Israel, en hij porde David aan, dat hij Israel telde. 2En David zeide tot Joab en tot de oversten des volks: Gaat heen, telt Israel van Ber-seba tot Dan toe, en brengt hen tot mij, dat ik hun getal wete. 3Toen zeide Joab: De HEERE doe tot Zijn volk, gelijk zij nu zijn, honderdmaal meer; zijn zij niet allen, o mijn heer koning, mijn heer tot knechten? Waarom verzoekt mijn heer dit? Waarom zou het Israel tot schuld worden? 4Doch het woord des konings nam de overhand tegen Joab; derhalve toog Joab uit, en hij doorwandelde gans Israel; daarna kwam hij weder te Jeruzalem. 5En Joab gaf David de som van het gestelde volk; en gans Israel was elfhonderd duizend man, die het zwaard uittrokken, en Juda vierhonderd duizend, en zeventig duizend man, die het zwaard uittrokken. 6Doch Levi en Benjamin telde hij onder dezelve niet; want des konings woord was Joab een gruwel. 7En deze zaak was kwaad in de ogen Gods; daarom sloeg Hij Israel. 8Toen zeide David tot God: Ik heb zeer gezondigd, dat ik deze zaak gedaan heb; maar neem toch nu de misdaad Uws knechts weg, want ik heb zeer zottelijk gehandeld. 9De HEERE nu sprak tot Gad, den ziener van David, zeggende: 10Ga heen, en spreek tot David, zeggende: Aldus zegt de HEERE: Drie dingen leg Ik u voor; kies u een uit die, dat Ik u doe. 11En Gad kwam tot David, en zeide tot hem: Zo zegt de HEERE: Neem u uit: 12Of drie jaren honger, of drie maanden verteerd te worden voor het aangezicht uwer wederpartij, en dat het zwaard uwer vijanden u achterhale; of drie dagen het zwaard des HEEREN, dat is, de pestilentie in het land, en een verdervenden engel des HEEREN in al de landpalen van Israel? Zo zie nu toe, wat antwoord ik Dien zal wedergeven, Die mij gezonden heeft. 13Toen zeide David tot Gad: Mij is zeer bange; laat mij toch in de hand des HEEREN vallen; want Zijn barmhartigheden zijn zeer vele, maar laat mij in de hand der mensen niet vallen. 14De HEERE dan gaf pestilentie in Israel; en er vielen van Israel zeventig duizend man. 15En God zond een engel naar Jeruzalem, om die te verderven; en als hij haar verdierf, zag het de HEERE, en het berouwde Hem over dat kwaad; en Hij zeide tot den verdervenden engel: Het is genoeg, trek nu uw hand af. De engel des HEEREN nu stond bij den dorsvloer van Ornan, den Jebusiet. 16Als David zijn ogen ophief, zo zag hij den engel des HEEREN, staande tussen de aarde en tussen den hemel, met zijn uitgetrokken zwaard in zijn hand, uitgestrekt over Jeruzalem; toen viel David, en de oudsten, bedekt met zakken, op hun aangezichten. 17En David zeide tot God: Ben ik het niet, die gezegd heb, dat men het volk tellen zou? Ja, ik zelf ben het, die gezondigd en zeer kwalijk gehandeld heb; maar deze schapen, wat hebben die gedaan? O HEERE, mijn God, dat toch Uw hand tegen mij, en tegen het huis mijns vaders zij, maar niet tegen Uw volk ter plage. 18Toen zeide de engel des HEEREN tot Gad, dat hij David zeggen zou, dat David zou opgaan, om den HEERE een altaar op te richten op den dorsvloer van Ornan, den Jebusiet. 19Zo ging dan David op naar het woord van Gad, dat hij in den Naam des HEEREN gesproken had. 20Toen zich Ornan wendde, zo zag hij den engel; en zijn vier zonen, die bij hem waren, verstaken zich; en Ornan dorste tarwe. 21En David kwam tot Ornan; en Ornan zag toe, en zag David; zo ging hij uit den dorsvloer, en boog zich neder voor David, met het aangezicht ter aarde. 22En David zeide tot Ornan: Geef mij de plaats des dorsvloers, dat ik op dezelve den HEERE een altaar bouwe; geef ze mij voor het volle geld, opdat deze plage opgehouden worde van over het volk. 23Toen zeide Ornan tot David: Neem ze maar henen, en mijn heer de koning doe wat goed is in zijn ogen; zie, ik geef deze runderen tot brandofferen, en deze sleden tot hout, en de tarwe tot spijsoffer; ik geef het al. 24En de koning David zeide tot Ornan: Neen, maar ik zal het zekerlijk kopen voor het volle geld; want ik zal voor den HEERE niet nemen wat uw is, dat ik een brandoffer om niet offere. 25En David gaf aan Ornan voor die plaats zeshonderd gouden sikkelen van gewicht. 26Toen bouwde David aldaar den HEERE een altaar, en hij offerde brandofferen en dankofferen. Als hij den HEERE aanriep, zo antwoordde Hij hem door vuur uit den hemel, op het brandofferaltaar. 27En de HEERE zeide tot den engel, dat hij zijn zwaard weder in zijn schede steken zou. 28Ter zelfder tijd, toen David zag, dat de HEERE hem geantwoord had op den dorsvloer van Ornan, den Jebusiet, zo offerde hij aldaar; 29Want de tabernakel des HEEREN, dien Mozes in de woestijn gemaakt had, en het altaar des brandoffers, was te dier tijd op de hoogte te Gibeon. 30David nu kon niet heengaan voor hetzelve, om God te zoeken; want hij was verschrikt voor het zwaard van den engel des HEEREN.
