1Y FUÉ Roboam á Sichêm; porque todo Israel había venido á Sichêm para hacerlo rey. 2Y aconteció, que como lo oyó Jeroboam hijo de Nabat, que estaba en Egipto, porque había huído de delante del rey Salomón, y habitaba en Egipto; 3Enviaron y llamáronle. Vino pues Jeroboam y toda la congregación de Israel, y hablaron á Roboam, diciendo: 4Tu padre agravó nuestro yugo, mas ahora tú disminuye algo de la dura servidumbre de tu padre, y del yugo pesado que puso sobre nosotros, y te serviremos. 5Y él les dijo: Idos, y de aquí á tres días volved á mí. Y el pueblo se fué. 6Entonces el rey Roboam tomó consejo con los ancianos que habían estado delante de Salomón su padre cuando vivía, y dijo: ¿Cómo aconsejáis vosotros que responda á este pueblo? 7Y ellos le hablaron, diciendo: Si tú fueres hoy siervo de este pueblo, y lo sirvieres, y respondiéndole buenas palabras les hablares, ellos te servirán para siempre. 8Mas él, dejado el consejo de los viejos que ellos le habían dado, tomó consejo con los mancebos que se habían criado con él, y estaban delante de él. 9Y díjoles: ¿Cómo aconsejáis vosotros que respondamos á este pueblo, que me ha hablado, diciendo: Disminuye algo del yugo que tu padre puso sobre nosotros? 10Entonces los mancebos que se habían criado con él, le respondieron, diciendo: Así hablarás á este pueblo que te ha dicho estas palabras: Tu padre agravó nuestro yugo; mas tú disminúyenos algo: así les hablarás: El menor dedo de los míos es más grueso que los lomos de mi padre. 11Ahora pues, mi padre os cargó de pesado yugo, mas yo añadiré á vuestro yugo; mi padre os hirió con azotes, mas yo os heriré con escorpiones. 12Y al tercer día vino Jeroboam con todo el pueblo á Roboam; según el rey lo había mandado, diciendo: Volved á mí al tercer día. 13Y el rey respondió al pueblo duramente, dejado el consejo de los ancianos que ellos le habían dado; 14Y hablóles conforme al consejo de los mancebos, diciendo: Mi padre agravó vuestro yugo, pero yo añadiré á vuestro yugo; mi padre os hirió con azotes, mas yo os heriré con escorpiones. 15Y no oyó el rey al pueblo; porque era ordenación de Jehová, para confirmar su palabra, que Jehová había hablado por medio de Ahías Silonita á Jeroboam hijo de Nabat. 16Y cuando todo el pueblo vió que el rey no les había oído, respondióle estas palabras, diciendo: ¿Qué parte tenemos nosotros con David? No tenemos heredad en el hijo de Isaí. ¡Israel, á tus estancias! ¡Provee ahora en tu casa, David! Entonces Israel se fué á sus estancias. 17Mas reinó Roboam sobre los hijos de Israel que moraban en las ciudades de Judá. 18Y el rey Roboam envió á Adoram, que estaba sobre los tributos; pero apedreóle todo Israel, y murió. Entonces el rey Roboam se esforzó á subir en un carro, y huir á Jerusalem. 19Así se apartó Israel de la casa de David hasta hoy. 20Y aconteció, que oyendo todo Israel que Jeroboam había vuelto, enviaron y llamáronle á la congregación, é hiciéronle rey sobre todo Israel, sin quedar tribu alguna que siguiese la casa de David, sino sólo la tribu de Judá. 21Y como Roboam vino á Jerusalem, juntó toda la casa de Judá y la tribu de Benjamín, ciento y ochenta mil hombres escogidos de guerra, para hacer guerra á la casa de Israel, y reducir el reino á Roboam hijo de Salomón. 22Mas fué palabra de Jehová á Semeías varón de Dios, diciendo: 23Habla á Roboam hijo de Salomón, rey de Judá, y á toda la casa de Judá y de Benjamín, y á los demás del pueblo, diciendo: 24Así ha dicho Jehová: No vayáis, ni peleéis contra vuestros hermanos los hijos de Israel; volveos cada uno á su casa; porque este negocio yo lo he hecho. Y ellos oyeron la palabra de Dios, y volviéronse, y fuéronse, conforme á la palabra de Jehová. 25Y reedificó Jeroboam á Sichêm en el monte de Ephraim, y habitó en ella; y saliendo de allí, reedificó á Penuel. 26Y dijo Jeroboam en su corazón: Ahora se volverá el reino á la casa de David, 27Si este pueblo subiere á sacrificar á la casa de Jehová en Jerusalem: porque el corazón de este pueblo se convertirá á su señor Roboam rey de Judá, y me matarán á mí, y se tornarán á Roboam rey de Judá. 28Y habido consejo, hizo el rey dos becerros de oro, y dijo al pueblo: Harto habéis subido á Jerusalem: he aquí tus dioses, oh Israel, que te hicieron subir de la tierra de Egipto. 29Y puso el uno en Beth-el, y el otro puso en Dan. 30Y esto fué ocasión de pecado; porque el pueblo iba á adorar delante del uno, hasta Dan. 31Hizo también casa de altos, é hizo sacerdotes de la clase del pueblo, que no eran de los hijos de Leví. 32Entonces instituyó Jeroboam solemnidad en el mes octavo, á los quince del mes, conforme á la solemnidad que se celebraba en Judá; y sacrificó sobre altar. Así hizo en Beth-el, sacrificando á los becerros que había hecho. Ordenó también en Beth-el sacerdotes de los altos que él había fabricado. 33Sacrificó pues sobre el altar que él había hecho en Beth-el, á los quince del mes octavo, el mes que él había inventado de su corazón; é hizo fiesta á los hijos de Israel, y subió al altar para quemar perfumes.
1Rehoboam went to Shechem: for all Israel had come to Shechem to make him king. 2When Jeroboam the son of Nebat heard of it (for he was yet in Egypt, where he had fled from the presence of king Solomon, and Jeroboam lived in Egypt, 3and they sent and called him), Jeroboam and all the assembly of Israel came, and spoke to Rehoboam, saying, 4“Your father made our yoke grievous: now therefore make you the grievous service of your father, and his heavy yoke which he put on us, lighter, and we will serve you.” 5He said to them, “Depart for three days, then come back to me.” The people departed. 6King Rehoboam took counsel with the old men, who had stood before Solomon his father while he yet lived, saying, “What counsel do you give me to return answer to this people?” 7They spoke to him, saying, “If you will be a servant to this people this day, and will serve them, and answer them, and speak good words to them, then they will be your servants forever.” 8But he abandoned the counsel of the old men which they had given him, and took counsel with the young men who had grown up with him, who stood before him. 9He said to them, “What counsel do you give, that we may return answer to this people, who have spoken to me, saying, ‘Make the yoke that your father put on us lighter?’” 10The young men who had grown up with him spoke to him, saying, “Thus you shall tell this people who spoke to you, saying, ‘Your father made our yoke heavy, but make it lighter to us;’ you shall say to them, ‘My little finger is thicker than my father’s waist. 11Now whereas my father burdened you with a heavy yoke, I will add to your yoke: my father chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions.’” 12So Jeroboam and all the people came to Rehoboam the third day, as the king asked, saying, “Come to me again the third day.” 13The king answered the people roughly, and abandoned the counsel of the old men which they had given him, 14and spoke to them according to the counsel of the young men, saying, “My father made your yoke heavy, but I will add to your yoke. My father chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions.” 15So the king didn’t listen to the people; for it was a thing brought about of Yahweh, that he might establish his word, which Yahweh spoke by Ahijah the Shilonite to Jeroboam the son of Nebat. 16When all Israel saw that the king didn’t listen to them, the people answered the king, saying, “What portion have we in David? Neither do we have an inheritance in the son of Jesse. To your tents, Israel! Now see to your own house, David.” So Israel departed to their tents. 17But as for the children of Israel who lived in the cities of Judah, Rehoboam reigned over them. 18Then king Rehoboam sent Adoram, who was over the men subject to forced labor; and all Israel stoned him to death with stones. King Rehoboam made speed to get him up to his chariot, to flee to Jerusalem. 19So Israel rebelled against the house of David to this day. 20When all Israel heard that Jeroboam was returned, they sent and called him to the congregation, and made him king over all Israel: there was no one who followed the house of David, but the tribe of Judah only. 21When Rehoboam had come to Jerusalem, he assembled all the house of Judah, and the tribe of Benjamin, a hundred and eighty thousand chosen men, who were warriors, to fight against the house of Israel, to bring the kingdom again to Rehoboam the son of Solomon. 22But the word of God came to Shemaiah the man of God, saying, 23“Speak to Rehoboam the son of Solomon, king of Judah, and to all the house of Judah and Benjamin, and to the rest of the people, saying, 24‘Thus says Yahweh, “You shall not go up, nor fight against your brothers, the children of Israel. Everyone return to his house; for this thing is of me.”’” So they listened to Yahweh’s word, and returned and went their way, according to Yahweh’s word. 25Then Jeroboam built Shechem in the hill country of Ephraim, and lived in it; and he went out from there, and built Penuel. 26Jeroboam said in his heart, “Now the kingdom will return to the house of David. 27If this people goes up to offer sacrifices in Yahweh’s house at Jerusalem, then the heart of this people will turn again to their lord, even to Rehoboam king of Judah; and they will kill me, and return to Rehoboam king of Judah.” 28Whereupon the king took counsel, and made two calves of gold; and he said to them, “It is too much for you to go up to Jerusalem. Look and see your gods, Israel, which brought you up out of the land of Egypt!” 29He set the one in Bethel, and the other put he in Dan. 30This thing became a sin; for the people went to worship before the one, even to Dan. 31He made houses of high places, and made priests from among all the people, who were not of the sons of Levi. 32Jeroboam ordained a feast in the eighth month, on the fifteenth day of the month, like the feast that is in Judah, and he went up to the altar; he did so in Bethel, sacrificing to the calves that he had made: and he placed in Bethel the priests of the high places that he had made. 33He went up to the altar which he had made in Bethel on the fifteenth day in the eighth month, even in the month which he had devised of his own heart: and he ordained a feast for the children of Israel, and went up to the altar, to burn incense.
1En Rehabeam toog naar Sichem, want het ganse Israel was te Sichem gekomen, om hem koning te maken. 2Het geschiedde nu, als Jerobeam, de zoon van Nebat, dit hoorde, daar hij nog in Egypte was (want hij was van het aangezicht van den koning Salomo gevloden; en Jerobeam woonde in Egypte), 3Dat zij henen zonden, en lieten hem roepen; en Jerobeam en de ganse gemeente van Israel kwamen en spraken tot Rehabeam, zeggende: 4Uw vader heeft ons juk hard gemaakt; gij dan nu, maak uws vaders harden dienst, en zijn zwaar juk, dat hij ons opgelegd heeft, lichter, en wij zullen u dienen. 5En hij zeide tot hen: Gaat heen tot aan den derden dag, komt dan weder tot mij. En het volk ging heen. 6En de koning Rehabeam hield raad met de oudsten, die gestaan hadden voor het aangezicht van zijn vader Salomo, als hij leefde, zeggende: Hoe raadt gijlieden, dat men dit volk antwoorden zal? 7En zij spraken tot hem, zeggende: Indien gij heden knecht van dit volk wezen zult, en hen dienen, en hun antwoorden, en tot hen goede woorden spreken zult, zo zullen zij te allen dage uw knechten zijn. 8Maar hij verliet den raad der oudsten, dien zij hem geraden hadden; en hij hield raad met de jongelingen, die met hem opgewassen waren, die voor zijn aangezicht stonden. 9En hij zeide tot hen: Wat raadt gijlieden, dat wij dit volk antwoorden zullen, die tot mij gesproken hebben, zeggende: Maak het juk, dat uw vader ons opgelegd heeft, lichter. 10En de jongelingen, die met hem opgewassen waren, spraken tot hem, zeggende: Alzo zult gij zeggen tot dat volk, die tot u gesproken hebben, zeggende: Uw vader heeft ons juk zwaar gemaakt, maar maak gij het over ons lichter; alzo zult gij tot hen spreken: Mijn kleinste vinger zal dikker zijn dan mijns vaders lenden. 11Indien nu mijn vader een zwaar juk op u heeft doen laden, zo zal ik boven uw juk nog daartoe doen; mijn vader heeft u met geselen gekastijd, maar ik zal u met schorpioenen kastijden. 12Zo kwam Jerobeam en het ganse volk tot Rehabeam op den derden dag, gelijk als de koning gesproken had, zeggende: Komt weder tot mij op den derden dag. 13En de koning antwoordde het volk hardelijk; want hij verliet den raad der oudsten, dien zij hem geraden hadden. 14En hij sprak tot hen naar den raad der jongelingen, zeggende: Mijn vader heeft uw juk zwaar gemaakt, maar ik zal boven uw juk nog daartoe doen; mijn vader heeft u met geselen gekastijd, maar ik zal u met schorpioenen kastijden. 15Alzo hoorde de koning naar het volk niet; want deze omwending was van den HEERE, opdat Hij Zijn woord bevestigde, hetwelk de HEERE door den dienst van Ahia, den Siloniet, gesproken had tot Jerobeam, den zoon van Nebat. 16Toen gans Israel zag, dat de koning naar hen niet hoorde, zo gaf het volk den koning weder antwoord, zeggende: Wat deel hebben wij aan David? Ja, geen erve hebben wij aan den zoon van Isai; naar uw tenten, o Israel! Voorzie nu uw huis, o David! Zo ging Israel naar zijn tenten. 17Doch aangaande de kinderen van Israel, die in de steden van Juda woonden, over die regeerde Rehabeam ook. 18Toen zond de koning Rehabeam Adoram, die over de schatting was; en het ganse Israel stenigde hem met stenen, dat hij stierf; maar de koning Rehabeam vervloekte zich om op een wagen te klimmen, dat hij naar Jeruzalem vluchtte. 19Alzo vielen de Israelieten van het huis Davids af, tot op dezen dag. 20En het geschiedde, als gans Israel hoorde, dat Jerobeam wedergekomen was, dat zij henen zonden, en hem in de vergadering riepen, en hem over gans Israel koning maakten; niemand volgde het huis Davids, dan de stam van Juda alleen. 21Toen nu Rehabeam te Jeruzalem gekomen was, vergaderde hij het ganse huis van Juda en den stam van Benjamin, honderd en tachtig duizend uitgelezenen, geoefend ten oorlog, om tegen het huis Israels te strijden, opdat hij het koninkrijk weder aan Rehabeam, den zoon van Salomo, bracht. 22Doch het woord van God geschiedde tot Semaja, den man Gods, zeggende: 23Zeg tot Rehabeam, den zoon van Salomo, den koning van Juda, en tot het ganse huis van Juda en Benjamin, en overige des volks, zeggende: 24Zo zegt de HEERE: Gij zult niet optrekken, noch strijden tegen uw broederen, de kinderen Israels; een ieder kere weder tot zijn huis, want deze zaak is van Mij geschied. En zij hoorden het woord des HEEREN, en keerden weder, om weg te trekken naar het woord des HEEREN. 25Jerobeam nu bouwde Sichem op het gebergte van Efraim, en woonde daarin, en toog van daar uit, en bouwde Penuel. 26En Jerobeam zeide in zijn hart: Nu zal het koninkrijk weder tot het huis van David keren. 27Zo dit volk opgaan zal om offeranden te doen in het huis des HEEREN te Jeruzalem, zo zal het hart dezes volks tot hun heer, tot Rehabeam, den koning van Juda, wederkeren; ja, zij zullen mij doden, en tot Rehabeam, den koning van Juda, wederkeren. 28Daarom hield de koning een raad, en maakte twee gouden kalveren; en hij zeide tot hen: Het is ulieden te veel om op te gaan naar Jeruzalem; zie uw goden, o Israel, die u uit Egypteland opgebracht hebben. 29En hij zette het ene te Beth-El, en het andere stelde hij te Dan. 30En deze zaak werd tot zonde; want het volk ging heen voor het ene, tot Dan toe. 31Hij maakte ook een huis der hoogten; en maakte priesteren van de geringsten des volks, die niet waren uit de zonen van Levi. 32En Jerobeam maakte een feest in de achtste maand, op den vijftienden dag der maand, gelijk het feest, dat in Juda was, en offerde op het altaar; van gelijken deed hij te Beth-El, offerende den kalveren, die hij gemaakt had; hij stelde ook te Beth-El priesteren der hoogten, die hij gemaakt had. 33En hij offerde op het altaar, dat hij te Beth-El gemaakt had, op den vijftienden dag der achtste maand, der maand, dewelke hij uit zijn hart verdacht had; zo maakte hij den kinderen Israels een feest, en offerde op dat altaar, rokende.
