1Ecco, l’Eterno vuota la terra, e la rende deserta; ne sconvolge la faccia e ne disperde gli abitanti. 2Avverrà al sacerdote lo stesso che al popolo, al padrone lo stesso che al suo servo, alla padrona lo stesso che alla sua serva, a chi vende lo stesso che a chi compra, a chi presta lo stesso che a chi prende ad imprestito, al creditore lo stesso che al debitore. 3La terra sarà del tutto vuotata, sarà del tutto abbandonata al saccheggio, poiché l’Eterno ha pronunziato questa parola. 4La terra è in lutto, è spossata, il mondo langue, è spossato, gli altolocati fra il popolo della terra languono. 5La terra è profanata dai suoi abitanti, perch’essi han trasgredito le leggi, han violato il comandamento, han rotto il patto eterno. 6Perciò una maledizione ha divorato la terra, e i suoi abitanti ne portan la pena; perciò gli abitanti della terra son consumati, e poca è la gente che v’è rimasta. 7Il mosto è in lutto, la vigna langue, tutti quelli che avean la gioia nel cuore sospirano. 8L’allegria de’ tamburelli è cessata, il chiasso de’ festanti è finito, il suono allegro dell’arpa è cessato. 9Non si beve più vino in mezzo ai canti, la bevanda alcoolica è amara ai bevitori. 10La città deserta è in rovina; ogni casa è serrata, nessuno più v’entra. 11Per le strade s’odon lamenti, perché non c’è vino; ogni gioia è tramontata, l’allegrezza ha esulato dalla terra. 12Nella città non resta che la desolazione, e la porta sfondata cade in rovina. 13Poiché avviene in mezzo alla terra, fra i popoli, quel che avviene quando si scuoton gli ulivi, quando si racimola dopo la vendemmia. 14I superstiti alzan la voce, mandan gridi di gioia, acclaman dal mare la maestà dell’Eterno: 15"Glorificate dunque l’Eterno nelle regioni dell’aurora, glorificate il nome dell’Eterno, l’Iddio d’Israele, nelle isole del mare! 16Dall’estremità della terra udiam cantare: "Gloria al giusto!" Ma io dico: Ahimè lasso! ahimè lasso! Guai a me! i perfidi agiscono perfidamente, sì, i perfidi raddoppian la perfidia. 17Spavento, fossa, laccio ti sovrastano, o abitante della terra! 18E avverrà che chi fuggirà dinanzi alle grida di spavento cadrà nella fossa; e chi risalirà dalla fossa resterà preso nel laccio. Poiché si apriranno dall’alto le cateratte, e le fondamenta della terra tremeranno. 19La terra si schianterà tutta, la terra si screpolerà interamente, la terrà tremerà, traballerà. 20La terra barcollerà come un ebbro, vacillerà come una capanna. Il suo peccato grava su lei; essa cade, e non si rialzerò mai più. 21In quel giorno, l’Eterno punirà nei luoghi eccelsi l’esercito di lassù, e giù sulla terra, i re della terra; 22saranno raunati assieme, come si fa dei prigionieri nel carcere sottoterra; saranno rinchiusi nella prigione, e dopo gran numero di giorni saranno puniti. 23La luna sarà coperta di rossore, e il sole di vergogna; poiché l’Eterno degli eserciti regnerà sul monte di Sion ed in Gerusalemme, fulgido di gloria in presenza de’ suoi anziani.
1Behold, Yahweh makes the earth empty, makes it waste, turns it upside down, and scatters its inhabitants. 2It will be as with the people, so with the priest; as with the servant, so with his master; as with the maid, so with her mistress; as with the buyer, so with the seller; as with the creditor, so with the debtor; as with the taker of interest, so with the giver of interest. 3The earth will be utterly emptied and utterly laid waste; for Yahweh has spoken this word. 4The earth mourns and fades away. The world languishes and fades away. The lofty people of the earth languish. 5The earth also is polluted under its inhabitants, because they have transgressed the laws, violated the statutes, and broken the everlasting covenant. 6Therefore the curse has devoured the earth, and those who dwell therein are found guilty. Therefore the inhabitants of the earth are burned, and few men left. 7The new wine mourns. The vine languishes. All the merry-hearted sigh. 8The mirth of tambourines ceases. The sound of those who rejoice ends. The joy of the harp ceases. 9They will not drink wine with a song. Strong drink will be bitter to those who drink it. 10The confused city is broken down. Every house is shut up, that no man may come in. 11There is a crying in the streets because of the wine. All joy is darkened. The mirth of the land is gone. 12The city is left in desolation, and the gate is struck with destruction. 13For it will be so in the midst of the earth among the peoples, as the shaking of an olive tree, as the gleanings when the vintage is done. 14These shall lift up their voice. They will shout for the majesty of Yahweh. They cry aloud from the sea. 15Therefore glorify Yahweh in the east, even the name of Yahweh, the God of Israel, in the islands of the sea! 16From the uttermost part of the earth have we heard songs. Glory to the righteous! But I said, “I pine away! I pine away! woe is me!” The treacherous have dealt treacherously. Yes, the treacherous have dealt very treacherously. 17Fear, the pit, and the snare, are on you who inhabitant the earth. 18It will happen that he who flees from the noise of the fear will fall into the pit; and he who comes up out of the midst of the pit will be taken in the snare; for the windows on high are opened, and the foundations of the earth tremble. 19The earth is utterly broken. The earth is torn apart. The earth is shaken violently. 20The earth will stagger like a drunken man, and will sway back and forth like a hammock. Its disobedience will be heavy on it, and it will fall and not rise again. 21It shall happen in that day that Yahweh will punish the army of the high ones on high, and the kings of the earth on the earth. 22They shall be gathered together, as prisoners are gathered in the pit, and shall be shut up in the prison; and after many days shall they be visited. 23Then the moon shall be confounded, and the sun ashamed; for Yahweh of Armies will reign on Mount Zion, and in Jerusalem; and before his elders will be glory.
1Ziet, de HEERE maakt het land ledig, en Hij maakt het woest; en Hij keert deszelfs gestaltenis om, en Hij verstrooit zijn inwoners. 2En gelijk het volk, alzo zal de priester wezen; gelijk de knecht, alzo zijn heer; gelijk de dienstmaagd, alzo haar vrouw; gelijk de koper, alzo de verkoper; gelijk de lener, alzo de ontlener; gelijk de woekeraar, alzo die, van welken hij woeker ontvangt. 3Dat land zal ganselijk ledig gemaakt worden, en het zal ganselijk beroofd worden; want de HEERE heeft dit woord gesproken. 4Het land treurt, het verwelkt; het aardrijk kweelt, het verwelkt; de hoogsten van het volk des lands kwelen. 5Want het land is bevlekt vanwege zijn inwoners; want zij overtreden de wetten, zij veranderen de inzettingen, zij vernietigen het eeuwig verbond. 6Daarom verteert de vloek het land, en die daarin wonen, zullen verwoest worden; daarom zullen de inwoners des lands verbrand worden, en er zullen weinig mensen overblijven. 7De most treurt, de wijnstok kweelt, allen die blijhartig waren, zuchten. 8De vreugde der trommelen rust; het geluid der vrolijk huppelenden houdt op, de vreugde der harp rust. 9Zij zullen geen wijn drinken met gezang; de sterke drank zal bitter zijn dengenen, die hem drinken. 10De woeste stad is verbroken, al de huizen staan gesloten, dat er niemand inkomen kan. 11Er is een klagelijk geroep op de straten, om des wijns wil; alle blijdschap is verduisterd, de vreugde des lands is heengevaren. 12Verwoesting is in de stad overgebleven, en met gekraak wordt de poort in stukken verbroken. 13Want in het binnenste van het land, in het midden dezer volken, zal het alzo wezen, gelijk de afschudding des olijfbooms, gelijk de nalezingen, wanneer de wijnoogst geeindigd is. 14Die zullen hun stem opheffen, zij zullen vrolijk zingen; vanwege de heerlijkheid des HEEREN zullen zij juichen van de zee af. 15Daarom eert den HEERE in de valleien, in de eilanden der zee den Naam des HEEREN, des Gods van Israel. 16Van het uiterste einde der aarde horen wij psalmen, tot verheerlijking des Rechtvaardigen. Doch nu zeg ik: Ik word mager, ik word mager, wee mij! de trouwelozen handelen trouwelooslijk, en met trouweloosheid handelen de trouwelozen trouwelooslijk. 17De vrees, en de kuil, en de strik over u, o inwoners des lands! 18En het zal geschieden, zo wie voor de stem der vreze vlieden zal, die zal in den kuil vallen; en die uit den kuil opklimt, die zal in den strik gevangen worden; want de sluizen in de hoogte zijn opengedaan, en de fondamenten der aarde zullen beven. 19De aarde zal ganselijk verbroken worden, de aarde zal ganselijk vaneen gescheurd worden, de aarde zal ganselijk bewogen worden. 20De aarde zal ganselijk waggelen, gelijk een dronkaard, en zij zal heen en weder bewogen worden, gelijk een nachthut; en haar overtreding zal zwaar op haar zijn, en zij zal vallen, en niet weder opstaan. 21En het zal geschieden te dien dage, dat de HEERE bezoeking doen zal over de heirscharen des hogen in de hoogte, en over de koningen des aardbodems op den aardbodem. 22En zij zullen samenvergaderd worden, gelijk de gevangenen in een put, en zij zullen besloten worden in een gevangenis, maar na vele dagen weder bezocht worden. 23En de maan zal schaamrood worden, en de zon zal beschaamd worden, als de HEERE der heirscharen regeren zal op den berg Sion en te Jeruzalem, en voor zijn oudsten zal heerlijkheid zijn.
