1Allora Bildad di Suach rispose e disse: 2"Fino a quando terrai tu questi discorsi e saran le parole della tua bocca come un vento impetuoso? 3Iddio perverte egli il giudizio? L’Onnipotente perverte egli la giustizia? 4Se i tuoi figliuoli han peccato contro lui, egli li ha dati in balìa del loro misfatto; 5ma tu, se ricorri a Dio e implori grazia dall’Onnipotente, 6se proprio sei puro e integro, certo egli sorgerà in tuo favore, e restaurerà la dimora della tua giustizia. 7Così sarà stato piccolo il tuo principio, ma la tua fine sarà grande oltre modo. 8Interroga le passate generazioni, rifletti sull’esperienza de’ padri; 9giacché noi siam d’ieri e non sappiamo nulla; i nostri giorni sulla terra non son che un’ombra; 10ma quelli certo t’insegneranno, ti parleranno, e dal loro cuore trarranno discorsi. 11Può il papiro crescere ove non c’è limo? Il giunco viene egli su senz’acqua? 12Mentre son verdi ancora, e senza che li si tagli, prima di tutte l’erbe, seccano. 13Tale la sorte di tutti quei che dimenticano Dio, e la speranza dell’empio perirà. 14La sua baldanza è troncata, la sua fiducia e come una tela di ragno. 15Egli s’appoggia alla sua casa, ma essa non regge; vi s’aggrappa, ma quella non sta salda. 16Egli verdeggia al sole, e i suoi rami si protendono sul suo giardino; 17le sue radici s’intrecciano sul mucchio delle macerie, penetra fra le pietre della casa. 18Ma divelto che sia dal suo luogo, questo lo rinnega e gli dice: "Non ti ho mai veduto!" 19Ecco il gaudio che gli procura la sua condotta! E dalla polvere altri dopo lui germoglieranno. 20No, Iddio non rigetta l’uomo integro, ne porge aiuto a quelli che fanno il male. 21Egli renderà ancora il sorriso alla tua bocca, e sulle tue labbra metterà canti d’esultanza. 22Quelli che t’odiano saran coperti di vergogna, e la tenda degli empi sparirà".
1Then Bildad the Shuhite answered, 2“How long will you speak these things? Shall the words of your mouth be a mighty wind? 3Does God pervert justice? Or does the Almighty pervert righteousness? 4If your children have sinned against him, He has delivered them into the hand of their disobedience. 5If you want to seek God diligently, make your supplication to the Almighty. 6If you were pure and upright, surely now he would awaken for you, and make the habitation of your righteousness prosperous. 7Though your beginning was small, yet your latter end would greatly increase. 8“Please inquire of past generations. Find out about the learning of their fathers. 9(For we are but of yesterday, and know nothing, because our days on earth are a shadow.) 10Shall they not teach you, tell you, and utter words out of their heart? 11“Can the papyrus grow up without mire? Can the rushes grow without water? 12While it is yet in its greenness, not cut down, it withers before any other reed. 13So are the paths of all who forget God. The hope of the godless man shall perish, 14Whose confidence shall break apart, Whose trust is a spider’s web. 15He shall lean on his house, but it shall not stand. He shall cling to it, but it shall not endure. 16He is green before the sun. His shoots go out along his garden. 17His roots are wrapped around the rock pile. He sees the place of stones. 18If he is destroyed from his place, then it shall deny him, saying, ‘I have not seen you.’ 19Behold, this is the joy of his way: out of the earth, others shall spring. 20“Behold, God will not cast away a blameless man, neither will he uphold the evildoers. 21He will still fill your mouth with laughter, your lips with shouting. 22Those who hate you shall be clothed with shame. The tent of the wicked shall be no more.”
1Toen antwoordde Bildad, de Suhiet, en zeide: 2Hoe lang zult gij deze dingen spreken, en de redenen uws monds een geweldige wind zijn? 3Zou dan God het recht verkeren, en zou de Almachtige de gerechtigheid verkeren? 4Indien uw kinderen gezondigd hebben tegen Hem, Hij heeft hen ook in de hand hunner overtreding geworpen. 5Maar indien gij naar God vroeg zoekt, en tot den Almachtige om genade bidt; 6Zo gij zuiver en recht zijt, gewisselijk zal Hij nu opwaken, om uwentwil, en Hij zal de woning uwer gerechtigheid volmaken. 7Uw beginsel zal wel gering zijn; maar uw laatste zal zeer vermeerderd worden. 8Want vraag toch naar het vorige geslacht, en bereid u tot de onderzoeking hunner vaderen. 9Want wij zijn van gisteren en weten niet; dewijl onze dagen op de aarde een schaduw zijn. 10Zullen die u niet leren, tot u spreken, en uit hun hart redenen voortbrengen? 11Verheft zich de bieze zonder slijk? Groeit het rietgras zonder water? 12Als het nog in zijn groenigheid is, hoewel het niet afgesneden wordt, nochtans verdort het voor alle gras. 13Alzo zijn de paden van allen, die God vergeten; en de verwachting des huichelaars zal vergaan. 14Van denwelke zijn hoop walgen zal; en zijn vertrouwen zal zijn een huis der spinnekop. 15Hij zal op zijn huis leunen, maar het zal niet bestaan; hij zal zich daaraan vasthouden, maar het zal niet staande blijven. 16Hij is sappig voor de zon, en zijn scheuten gaan over zijn hof uit. 17Zijn wortelen worden bij de springader ingevlochten; hij ziet een stenige plaats. 18Maar als God hem verslindt uit zijn plaats, zo zal zij hem loochenen, zeggende: Ik heb u niet gezien. 19Zie, dat is vreugde zijns wegs; en uit het stof zullen anderen voortspruiten. 20Zie, God zal den oprechte niet verwerpen; Hij vat ook de boosdoeners niet bij de hand; 21Totdat Hij uw mond met gelach vervulle, en uw lippen met gejuich. 22Uw haters zullen met schaamte bekleed worden; en de tent der goddelozen zal niet meer zijn.
