1David rassembla encore toute l’élite d’Israël, au nombre de trente mille hommes. 2Et David, avec tout le peuple qui était auprès de lui, se mit en marche depuis Baalé-Juda, pour faire monter de là l’arche de Dieu, devant laquelle est invoqué le nom de l’Éternel des armées qui réside entre les chérubins au-dessus de l’arche. 3Ils mirent sur un char neuf l’arche de Dieu, et l’emportèrent de la maison d’Abinadab sur la colline ; Uzza et Achjo, fils d’Abinadab, conduisaient le char neuf. 4Ils l’emportèrent donc de la maison d’Abinadab sur la colline ; Uzza marchait à côté de l’arche de Dieu, et Achjo allait devant l’arche. 5David et toute la maison d’Israël jouaient devant l’Éternel de toutes sortes d’instruments de bois de cyprès, des harpes, des luths, des tambourins, des sistres et des cymbales. 6Lorsqu’ils furent arrivés à l’aire de Nacon, Uzza étendit la main vers l’arche de Dieu et la saisit, parce que les bœufs la faisaient pencher. 7La colère de l’Éternel s’enflamma contre Uzza, et Dieu le frappa sur place à cause de sa faute. Uzza mourut là, près de l’arche de Dieu. 8David fut irrité de ce que l’Éternel avait frappé Uzza d’un tel châtiment. Et ce lieu a été appelé jusqu’à ce jour Pérets-Uzza. 9David eut peur de l’Éternel en ce jour-là, et il dit : Comment l’arche de l’Éternel entrerait-elle chez moi ? 10Il ne voulut pas retirer l’arche de l’Éternel chez lui dans la cité de David, et il la fit conduire dans la maison d’Obed-Édom de Gath. 11L’arche de l’Éternel resta trois mois dans la maison d’Obed-Édom de Gath, et l’Éternel bénit Obed-Édom et toute sa maison. 12On vint dire au roi David : L’Éternel a béni la maison d’Obed-Édom et tout ce qui est à lui, à cause de l’arche de Dieu. Et David se mit en route, et il fit monter l’arche de Dieu depuis la maison d’Obed-Édom jusqu’à la cité de David, au milieu des réjouissances. 13Quand ceux qui portaient l’arche de l’Éternel eurent fait six pas, on sacrifia un bœuf et un veau gras. 14David dansait de toute sa force devant l’Éternel, et il était ceint d’un éphod de lin. 15David et toute la maison d’Israël firent monter l’arche de l’Éternel avec des cris de joie et au son des trompettes. 16Comme l’arche de l’Éternel entrait dans la cité de David, Mical, fille de Saül, regardait par la fenêtre, et, voyant le roi David sauter et danser devant l’Éternel, elle le méprisa dans son cœur. 17Après qu’on eut amené l’arche de l’Éternel, on la mit à sa place au milieu de la tente que David avait dressée pour elle ; et David offrit devant l’Éternel des holocaustes et des sacrifices d’actions de grâces. 18Quand David eut achevé d’offrir les holocaustes et les sacrifices d’actions de grâces, il bénit le peuple au nom de l’Éternel des armées. 19Puis il distribua à tout le peuple, à toute la multitude d’Israël, hommes et femmes, à chacun un pain, une portion de viande et un gâteau de raisins. Et tout le peuple s’en alla, chacun dans sa maison. 20David s’en retourna pour bénir sa maison, et Mical, fille de Saül, sortit à sa rencontre. Elle dit : Quel honneur aujourd’hui pour le roi d’Israël de s’être découvert aux yeux des servantes de ses serviteurs, comme se découvrirait un homme de rien ! 21David répondit à Mical : C’est devant l’Éternel, qui m’a choisi de préférence à ton père et à toute sa maison pour m’établir chef sur le peuple de l’Éternel, sur Israël, c’est devant l’Éternel que j’ai dansé. 22Je veux paraître encore plus vil que cela, et m’abaisser à mes propres yeux ; néanmoins je serai en honneur auprès des servantes dont tu parles. 23Or Mical, fille de Saül, n’eut point d’enfants jusqu’au jour de sa mort.
1David again gathered together all the chosen men of Israel, thirty thousand. 2David arose, and went with all the people who were with him, from Baale Judah, to bring up from there the ark of God, which is called by the Name, even the name of Yahweh of Armies who sits above the cherubim. 3They set the ark of God on a new cart, and brought it out of the house of Abinadab that was in the hill: and Uzzah and Ahio, the sons of Abinadab, drove the new cart. 4They brought it out of the house of Abinadab, which was in the hill, with the ark of God: and Ahio went before the ark. 5David and all the house of Israel played before Yahweh with all kinds of instruments made of fir wood, and with harps, and with stringed instruments, and with tambourines, and with castanets, and with cymbals. 6When they came to the threshing floor of Nacon, Uzzah reached for the ark of God, and took hold of it; for the cattle stumbled. 7Yahweh’s anger was kindled against Uzzah; and God struck him there for his error; and there he died by the ark of God. 8David was displeased, because Yahweh had broken out against Uzzah; and he called that place Perez Uzzah, to this day. 9David was afraid of Yahweh that day; and he said, “How shall Yahweh’s ark come to me?” 10So David would not move Yahweh’s ark to be with him in the city of David; but David carried it aside into the house of Obed-Edom the Gittite. 11Yahweh’s ark remained in the house of Obed-Edom the Gittite three months: and Yahweh blessed Obed-Edom, and all his house. 12It was told king David, saying, “Yahweh has blessed the house of Obed-Edom, and all that pertains to him, because of the ark of God.” David went and brought up the ark of God from the house of Obed-Edom into the city of David with joy. 13It was so, that, when those who bore Yahweh’s ark had gone six paces, he sacrificed an ox and a fattened calf. 14David danced before Yahweh with all his might; and David was clothed in a linen ephod. 15So David and all the house of Israel brought up Yahweh’s ark with shouting, and with the sound of the trumpet. 16It was so, as Yahweh’s ark came into the city of David, that Michal the daughter of Saul looked out at the window, and saw king David leaping and dancing before Yahweh; and she despised him in her heart. 17They brought in Yahweh’s ark, and set it in its place, in the midst of the tent that David had pitched for it; and David offered burnt offerings and peace offerings before Yahweh. 18When David had made an end of offering the burnt offering and the peace offerings, he blessed the people in the name of Yahweh of Armies. 19He gave to all the people, even among the whole multitude of Israel, both to men and women, to everyone a portion of bread, dates, and raisins. So all the people departed everyone to his house. 20Then David returned to bless his household. Michal the daughter of Saul came out to meet David, and said, “How glorious the king of Israel was today, who uncovered himself today in the eyes of the handmaids of his servants, as one of the vain fellows shamelessly uncovers himself!” 21David said to Michal, “It was before Yahweh, who chose me above your father, and above all his house, to appoint me prince over the people of Yahweh, over Israel. Therefore will I celebrate before Yahweh. 22I will be yet more vile than this, and will be base in my own sight. But of the handmaids of whom you have spoken, they shall honor me.” 23Michal the daughter of Saul had no child to the day of her death.
1Daarna verzamelde David wederom alle uitgelezenen in Israel, dertig duizend. 2En David maakte zich op, en ging heen met al het volk, dat bij hem was, van Baalim-Juda, om van daar op te brengen de ark Gods, bij dewelke de Naam wordt aangeroepen, de Naam van den HEERE der heirscharen, Die daarop woont tussen de cherubim. 3En zij voerden de ark Gods op een nieuwen wagen, en haalden ze uit het huis van Abinadab, dat op een heuvel is; en Uza en Ahio, zonen van Abinadab, leidden den nieuwen wagen. 4Toen zij hem nu uit het huis van Abinadab, dat op den heuvel is, met de ark Gods, wegvoerden, zo ging Ahio voor de ark henen. 5En David en het ganse huis Israels speelden voor het aangezicht des HEEREN, met allerlei snarenspel van dennenhout, als met harpen, en met luiten, en met trommelen, ook met schellen, en met cimbalen. 6Als zij nu kwamen tot aan Nachons dorsvloer, zo strekte Uza zijn hand uit aan de ark Gods, en hield ze, want de runderen struikelden. 7Toen ontstak de toorn des HEEREN tegen Uza, en God sloeg hem aldaar, om deze onbedachtzaamheid; en hij stierf aldaar bij de ark Gods. 8En David ontstak, omdat de HEERE een scheur gescheurd had aan Uza; en hij noemde dezelve plaats Perez-Uza, tot op dezen dag. 9En David vreesde den HEERE ten zelven dage; en hij zeide: Hoe zal de ark des HEEREN tot mij komen? 10David dan wilde de ark des HEEREN niet tot zich laten overbrengen in de stad Davids; maar David deed ze afwijken in het huis van Obed-Edom, den Gethiet. 11En de ark des HEEREN bleef in het huis van Obed-Edom, den Gethiet, drie maanden; en de HEERE zegende Obed-Edom en zijn ganse huis. 12Toen boodschapte men den koning David, zeggende: De HEERE heeft het huis van Obed-Edom, en al wat hij heeft, gezegend om der ark Gods wil; zo ging David heen en haalde de ark Gods uit het huis van Obed-Edom opwaarts in de stad Davids, met vreugde. 13En het geschiedde, als zij, die de ark des HEEREN droegen, zes treden voortgetreden waren, dat hij ossen en gemest vee offerde. 14En David huppelde met alle macht voor het aangezicht des HEEREN; en David was omgord met een linnen lijfrok. 15Alzo brachten David en het ganse huis Israels de ark des HEEREN op, met gejuich en met geluid der bazuinen. 16En het geschiedde, als de ark des HEEREN in de stad Davids kwam, dat Michal, Sauls dochter, door het venster uitzag. Als zij nu den koning David zag, springende en huppelende voor het aangezicht des HEEREN, verachtte zij hem in haar hart. 17Toen zij nu de ark des HEEREN inbrachten, stelden zij die in haar plaats, in het midden der tent, die David voor haar gespannen had; en David offerde brandofferen voor des HEEREN aangezicht, en dankofferen. 18Als David geeindigd had het brandoffer en de dankofferen te offeren, zo zegende hij het volk in den Naam des HEEREN der heirscharen. 19En hij deelde uit aan het ganse volk, aan de ganse menigte van Israel, van de mannen tot de vrouwen toe, aan een iegelijk een broodkoek, en een schoon stuk vlees, en een fles wijn. Toen ging al dat volk heen, een iegelijk naar zijn huis. 20Als nu David wederkwam, om zijn huis te zegenen, ging Michal, Sauls dochter, uit, David tegemoet, en zeide: Hoe is heden de koning van Israel verheerlijkt, die zich heden voor de ogen van de dienstmaagden zijner dienstknechten heeft ontbloot, gelijk een van de ijdele lieden zich onbeschaamdelijk ontbloot? 21Maar David zeide tot Michal: Voor het aangezicht des HEEREN, Die mij verkoren heeft voor uw vader en voor zijn ganse huis, mij instellende tot een voorganger over het volk des HEEREN, over Israel; ja, ik zal spelen voor het aangezicht des HEEREN. 22Ook zal ik mij nog geringer houden dan alzo, en zal nederig zijn in mijn ogen, en met de dienstmaagden, waarvan gij gezegd hebt, met dezelve zal ik verheerlijkt worden. 23Michal nu, Sauls dochter, had geen kind, tot den dag van haar dood toe.
