1Au bout de vingt ans, pendant lesquels Salomon bâtit la maison de l’Éternel et sa propre maison, 2il reconstruisit les villes que lui donna Huram et y établit des enfants d’Israël. 3Salomon marcha contre Hamath, vers Tsoba, et s’en empara. 4Il bâtit Thadmor au désert, et toutes les villes servant de magasins en Hamath. 5Il bâtit Beth-Horon la haute et Beth-Horon la basse, villes fortes, ayant des murs, des portes et des barres ; 6Baalath, et toutes les villes servant de magasins et lui appartenant, toutes les villes pour les chars, les villes pour la cavalerie, et tout ce qu’il plut à Salomon de bâtir à Jérusalem, au Liban, et dans tout le pays dont il était le souverain. 7Tout le peuple qui était resté des Héthiens, des Amoréens, des Phéréziens, des Héviens et des Jébusiens, ne faisant point partie d’Israël, 8leurs descendants qui étaient restés après eux dans le pays et que les enfants d’Israël n’avaient pas détruits, Salomon les leva comme gens de corvée, ce qu’ils ont été jusqu’à ce jour. 9Salomon n’employa comme esclave pour ses travaux aucun des enfants d’Israël ; car ils étaient des hommes de guerre, ses chefs, ses officiers, les commandants de ses chars et de sa cavalerie. 10Les chefs placés par le roi Salomon à la tête du peuple, et chargés de le surveiller, étaient au nombre de deux cent cinquante. 11Salomon fit monter la fille de Pharaon de la cité de David dans la maison qu’il lui avait bâtie ; car il dit : Ma femme n’habitera pas dans la maison de David, roi d’Israël, parce que les lieux où est entrée l’arche de l’Éternel sont saints. 12Alors Salomon offrit des holocaustes à l’Éternel sur l’autel de l’Éternel, qu’il avait construit devant le portique. 13Il offrait ce qui était prescrit par Moïse pour chaque jour, pour les sabbats, pour les nouvelles lunes, et pour les fêtes, trois fois l’année, à la fête des pains sans levain, à la fête des semaines, et à la fête des tabernacles. 14Il établit dans leurs fonctions, telles que les avait réglées David, son père, les classes des sacrificateurs selon leur office, les Lévites selon leur charge, consistant à célébrer l’Éternel et à faire jour par jour le service en présence des sacrificateurs, et les portiers distribués à chaque porte d’après leurs classes ; car ainsi l’avait ordonné David, homme de Dieu. 15On ne s’écarta point de l’ordre du roi pour les sacrificateurs et les Lévites, ni pour aucune chose, ni pour ce qui concernait les trésors. 16Ainsi fut dirigée toute l’œuvre de Salomon, jusqu’au jour où la maison de l’Éternel fut fondée et jusqu’à celui où elle fut terminée. La maison de l’Éternel fut donc achevée. 17Salomon partit alors pour Etsjon-Guéber et pour Éloth, sur les bords de la mer, dans le pays d’Édom. 18Et Huram lui envoya par ses serviteurs des navires et des serviteurs connaissant la mer. Ils allèrent avec les serviteurs de Salomon à Ophir, et ils y prirent quatre cent cinquante talents d’or, qu’ils apportèrent au roi Salomon.
1At the end of twenty years, in which Solomon had built Yahweh’s house, and his own house, 2the cities which Huram had given to Solomon, Solomon built them, and caused the children of Israel to dwell there. 3Solomon went to Hamath Zobah, and prevailed against it. 4He built Tadmor in the wilderness, and all the storage cities, which he built in Hamath. 5Also he built Beth Horon the upper, and Beth Horon the lower, fortified cities, with walls, gates, and bars; 6and Baalath, and all the storage cities that Solomon had, and all the cities for his chariots, and the cities for his horsemen, and all that Solomon desired to build for his pleasure in Jerusalem, and in Lebanon, and in all the land of his dominion. 7As for all the people who were left of the Hittites, and the Amorites, and the Perizzites, and the Hivites, and the Jebusites, who were not of Israel; 8of their children who were left after them in the land, whom the children of Israel didn’t consume, of them Solomon conscripted forced labor to this day. 9But of the children of Israel, Solomon made no servants for his work; but they were men of war, and chief of his captains, and rulers of his chariots and of his horsemen. 10These were the chief officers of king Solomon, even two-hundred fifty, who ruled over the people. 11Solomon brought up the daughter of Pharaoh out of the city of David to the house that he had built for her; for he said, “My wife shall not dwell in the house of David king of Israel, because the places where Yahweh’s ark has come are holy.” 12Then Solomon offered burnt offerings to Yahweh on the altar of Yahweh, which he had built before the porch, 13even as the duty of every day required, offering according to the commandment of Moses, on the Sabbaths, and on the new moons, and on the set feasts, three times in the year, in the feast of unleavened bread, and in the feast of weeks, and in the feast of tents. 14He appointed, according to the ordinance of David his father, the divisions of the priests to their service, and the Levites to their offices, to praise, and to minister before the priests, as the duty of every day required; the doorkeepers also by their divisions at every gate: for so had David the man of God commanded. 15They didn’t depart from the commandment of the king to the priests and Levites concerning any matter, or concerning the treasures. 16Now all the work of Solomon was prepared to the day of the foundation of Yahweh’s house, and until it was finished. So Yahweh’s house was completed. 17Then went Solomon to Ezion Geber, and to Eloth, on the seashore in the land of Edom. 18Huram sent him ships and servants who had knowledge of the sea by the hands of his servants; and they came with the servants of Solomon to Ophir, and fetched from there four hundred fifty talents of gold, and brought them to king Solomon.
1Het geschiedde nu ten einde van twintig jaren, in dewelke Salomo het huis des HEEREN en zijn huis gebouwd had, 2Dat Salomo de steden, welke Huram hem gegeven had, bouwde, en de kinderen Israels aldaar deed wonen. 3Daarna toog Salomo naar Hamath-Zoba, en hij overweldigde het. 4Hij bouwde ook Thadmor in de woestijn, en al de schatsteden, die hij bouwde in Hamath. 5Ook bouwde hij het hoge Beth-horon en het neder Beth-horon, vaste steden met muren, deuren en grendelen; 6Mitsgaders Baalath, en al de schatsteden, die Salomo had, en alle wagensteden, en de steden der ruiteren, en wat de begeerte van Salomo begeerd had te bouwen, in Jeruzalem, en in den Libanon, en in het ganse land zijner heerschappij. 7Aangaande al het volk, dat overgebleven was van de Hethieten, en de Amorieten, en de Ferezieten, en de Hevieten, en de Jebusieten, die niet uit Israel waren; 8Uit hun kinderen, die na hen in het land overgebleven waren, welke de kinderen Israels niet verdaan hadden, die bracht Salomo op uitschot tot op dezen dag. 9Doch uit de kinderen Israels, die Salomo niet maakte tot slaven in zijn werk; (want zij waren krijgslieden, en oversten zijner hoofdlieden, en oversten zijner wagenen en zijner ruiteren); 10Uit dezen dan waren oversten der bestelden, die de koning Salomo had, tweehonderd en vijftig, die over het volk heerschappij hadden. 11Salomo nu deed de dochter van Farao opkomen uit de stad Davids, tot het huis, dat hij voor haar gebouwd had; want hij zeide: Mijn vrouw zal in het huis van David, den koning van Israel, niet wonen, omdat de plaatsen heilig zijn, tot dewelke de ark des HEEREN gekomen is. 12Toen offerde Salomo den HEERE brandofferen op het altaar des HEEREN, hetwelk hij voor het voorhuis gebouwd had; 13Zelfs naar den eis van elken dag, offerende, naar het gebod van Mozes, op de sabbatten, en op de nieuwe maanden, en op de gezette hoogtijden, drie malen in het jaar; op het feest van de ongezuurde broden, en op het feest der weken, en op het feest der loofhutten. 14Hij stelde ook, naar de wijze zijns vaders Davids, de verdelingen der priesteren over hun dienst, en der Levieten over hun wachten, om God te prijzen, en voor de priesteren te dienen, naar den eis van elken dag; en de poortiers in hun verdelingen, aan elke poort; want alzo was het gebod van David, den man Gods. 15En men week niet van des konings gebod aan de priesteren en de Levieten, aangaande alle zaken, en aangaande de schatten. 16Alzo werd al het werk van Salomo bereid tot den dag der grondlegging van het huis des HEEREN, en tot het volbrengen van hetzelve, dat het huis des HEEREN volmaakt werd. 17Toen toog Salomo naar Ezeon-Geber, en naar Eloth, aan den oever der zee, in het land Edom. 18En Huram zond hem, door de hand zijner knechten, schepen, mitsgaders knechten, kenners van de zee; en zij gingen met Salomo's knechten naar Ofir, en zij haalden van daar vierhonderd en vijftig talenten gouds, dewelke zij brachten tot den koning Salomo.
