1Fils de Juda : Pérets, Hetsron, Carmi, Hur et Schobal. 2Reaja, fils de Schobal, engendra Jachath ; Jachath engendra Achumaï et Lahad. Ce sont les familles des Tsoreathiens. 3Voici les descendants du père d’Étham : Jizreel, Jischma et Jidbasch ; le nom de leur sœur était Hatselelponi. 4Penuel était père de Guedor, et Ézer père de Huscha. Ce sont là les fils de Hur, premier-né d’Éphrata, père de Bethléhem. 5Aschchur, père de Tekoa, eut deux femmes, Hélea et Naara. 6Naara lui enfanta Achuzzam, Hépher, Thémeni et Achaschthari : ce sont là les fils de Naara. 7Fils de Hélea : Tséreth, Tsochar et Ethnan. 8Kots engendra Anub et Hatsobéba, et les familles d’Acharchel, fils d’Harum. 9Jaebets était plus considéré que ses frères ; sa mère lui donna le nom de Jaebets, en disant : C’est parce que je l’ai enfanté avec douleur. 10Jaebets invoqua le Dieu d’Israël, en disant : Si tu me bénis et que tu étendes mes limites, si ta main est avec moi, et si tu me préserves du malheur, en sorte que je ne sois pas dans la souffrance !… Et Dieu accorda ce qu’il avait demandé. 11Kelub, frère de Schucha, engendra Mechir, qui fut père d’Eschthon. 12Eschthon engendra la maison de Rapha, Paséach, et Thechinna, père de la ville de Nachasch. Ce sont là les hommes de Réca. 13Fils de Kenaz : Othniel et Seraja. Fils d’Othniel : Hathath. 14Meonothaï engendra Ophra. Seraja engendra Joab, père de la vallée des ouvriers ; car ils étaient ouvriers. 15Fils de Caleb, fils de Jephunné : Iru, Éla et Naam, et les fils d’Éla, et Kenaz. 16Fils de Jehalléleel : Ziph, Zipha, Thirja et Asareel. 17Fils d’Esdras : Jéther, Méred, Épher et Jalon. La femme de Méred enfanta Miriam, Schammaï, et Jischbach, père d’Eschthemoa. 18Sa femme, la Juive, enfanta Jéred, père de Guedor, Héber, père de Soco, et Jekuthiel, père de Zanoach. Ceux-là sont les fils de Bithja, fille de Pharaon, que Méred prit pour femme. 19Fils de la femme d’Hodija, sœur de Nacham : le père de Kehila, le Garmien, et Eschthemoa, le Maacathien. 20Fils de Simon : Amnon, Rinna, Ben-Hanan et Thilon. Fils de Jischeï : Zocheth et Ben-Zocheth. 21Fils de Schéla, fils de Juda : Er, père de Léca, Laeda, père de Maréscha, et les familles de la maison où l’on travaille le byssus, de la maison d’Aschbéa, 22et Jokim, et les hommes de Cozéba, et Joas et Saraph, qui dominèrent sur Moab, et Jaschubi-Léchem. Ces choses sont anciennes. 23C’étaient les potiers et les habitants des plantations et des parcs ; ils demeuraient là près du roi et travaillaient pour lui. 24Fils de Siméon : Nemuel, Jamin, Jarib, Zérach, Saül. 25Fils de Saül : Schallum. Mibsam, son fils ; Mischma, son fils. 26Fils de Mischma : Hammuel, son fils. Zaccur, son fils ; Schimeï, son fils. 27Schimeï eut seize fils et six filles. Ses frères n’eurent pas beaucoup de fils. Et toutes leurs familles ne se multiplièrent pas autant que les fils de Juda. 28Ils habitaient à Beer-Schéba, à Molada, à Hatsar-Schual, 29à Bilha, à Etsem, à Tholad, 30à Bethuel, à Horma, à Tsiklag, 31à Beth-Marcaboth, à Hatsar-Susim, à Beth-Bireï et à Schaaraïm. Ce furent là leurs villes jusqu’au règne de David, et leurs villages. 32Ils avaient encore Etham, Aïn, Rimmon, Thoken et Aschan, cinq villes ; 33et tous les villages aux environs de ces villes, jusqu’à Baal. Voilà leurs habitations et leur généalogie. 34Meschobab ; Jamlec ; Joscha, fils d’Amatsia ; 35Joël ; Jéhu, fils de Joschibia, fils de Seraja, fils d’Asiel ; 36Eljoénaï ; Jaakoba ; Jeschochaja ; Asaja ; Adiel ; Jesimiel ; Benaja ; 37Ziza, fils de Schipheï, fils d’Allon, fils de Jedaja, fils de Schimri, fils de Schemaeja. 38Ceux-là, désignés par leurs noms, étaient princes dans leurs familles, et leurs maisons paternelles prirent un grand accroissement. 39Ils allèrent du côté de Guedor jusqu’à l’orient de la vallée, afin de chercher des pâturages pour leurs troupeaux. 40Ils trouvèrent de gras et bons pâturages, et un pays vaste, tranquille et paisible, car ceux qui l’habitaient auparavant descendaient de Cham. 41Ces hommes, inscrits par leurs noms, arrivèrent du temps d’Ézéchias, roi de Juda ; ils attaquèrent leurs tentes et les Maonites qui se trouvaient là, ils les dévouèrent par interdit jusqu’à ce jour, et ils s’établirent à leur place, car il y avait là des pâturages pour leurs troupeaux. 42Il y eut aussi des fils de Siméon qui allèrent à la montagne de Séir, au nombre de cinq cents hommes. Ils avaient à leur tête Pelathia, Nearia, Rephaja et Uziel, fils de Jischeï. 43Ils battirent le reste des réchappés d’Amalek, et ils s’établirent là jusqu’à ce jour.

1The sons of Judah: Perez, Hezron, and Carmi, and Hur, and Shobal. 2Reaiah the son of Shobal became the father of Jahath; and Jahath became the father of Ahumai and Lahad. These are the families of the Zorathites. 3These were the sons of the father of Etam: Jezreel, and Ishma, and Idbash; and the name of their sister was Hazzelelponi; 4and Penuel the father of Gedor, and Ezer the father of Hushah. These are the sons of Hur, the firstborn of Ephrathah, the father of Bethlehem. 5Ashhur the father of Tekoa had two wives, Helah and Naarah. 6Naarah bore him Ahuzzam, and Hepher, and Temeni, and Haahashtari. These were the sons of Naarah. 7The sons of Helah were Zereth, Izhar, and Ethnan. 8Hakkoz became the father of Anub, and Zobebah, and the families of Aharhel the son of Harum. 9Jabez was more honorable than his brothers: and his mother named him Jabez, saying, “Because I bore him with sorrow.” 10Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, “Oh that you would bless me indeed, and enlarge my border, and that your hand might be with me, and that you would keep me from evil, that it not be to my sorrow!” God granted him that which he requested. 11Chelub the brother of Shuhah became the father of Mehir, who was the father of Eshton. 12Eshton became the father of Beth Rapha, and Paseah, and Tehinnah the father of Ir Nahash. These are the men of Recah. 13The sons of Kenaz: Othniel, and Seraiah. The sons of Othniel: Hathath. 14Meonothai became the father of Ophrah: and Seraiah became the father of Joab the father of Ge Harashim; for they were craftsmen. 15The sons of Caleb the son of Jephunneh: Iru, Elah, and Naam; and the sons of Elah; and Kenaz. 16The sons of Jehallelel: Ziph, and Ziphah, Tiria, and Asarel. 17The sons of Ezrah: Jether, and Mered, and Epher, and Jalon; and she bore Miriam, and Shammai, and Ishbah the father of Eshtemoa. 18His wife the Jewess bore Jered the father of Gedor, and Heber the father of Soco, and Jekuthiel the father of Zanoah. These are the sons of Bithiah the daughter of Pharaoh, whom Mered took. 19The sons of the wife of Hodiah, the sister of Naham, were the father of Keilah the Garmite, and Eshtemoa the Maacathite. 20The sons of Shimon: Amnon, and Rinnah, Ben Hanan, and Tilon. The sons of Ishi: Zoheth, and Ben Zoheth. 21The sons of Shelah the son of Judah: Er the father of Lecah, and Laadah the father of Mareshah, and the families of the house of those who worked fine linen, of the house of Ashbea; 22and Jokim, and the men of Cozeba, and Joash, and Saraph, who had dominion in Moab, and Jashubilehem. The records are ancient. 23These were the potters, and the inhabitants of Netaim and Gederah: there they lived with the king for his work. 24The sons of Simeon: Nemuel, and Jamin, Jarib, Zerah, Shaul; 25Shallum his son, Mibsam his son, Mishma his son. 26The sons of Mishma: Hammuel his son, Zaccur his son, Shimei his son. 27Shimei had sixteen sons and six daughters; but his brothers didn’t have many children, neither did all their family multiply like the children of Judah. 28They lived at Beersheba, and Moladah, and Hazarshual, 29and at Bilhah, and at Ezem, and at Tolad, 30and at Bethuel, and at Hormah, and at Ziklag, 31and at Beth Marcaboth, and Hazar Susim, and at Beth Biri, and at Shaaraim. These were their cities to the reign of David. 32Their villages were Etam, and Ain, Rimmon, and Tochen, and Ashan, five cities; 33and all their villages that were around the same cities, to Baal. These were their habitations, and they have their genealogy. 34Meshobab, and Jamlech, and Joshah the son of Amaziah, 35and Joel, and Jehu the son of Joshibiah, the son of Seraiah, the son of Asiel, 36and Elioenai, and Jaakobah, and Jeshohaiah, and Asaiah, and Adiel, and Jesimiel, and Benaiah, 37and Ziza the son of Shiphi, the son of Allon, the son of Jedaiah, the son of Shimri, the son of Shemaiah— 38these mentioned by name were princes in their families: and their fathers’ houses increased greatly. 39They went to the entrance of Gedor, even to the east side of the valley, to seek pasture for their flocks. 40They found fat pasture and good, and the land was wide, and quiet, and peaceable; for those who lived there before were of Ham. 41These written by name came in the days of Hezekiah king of Judah, and struck their tents, and the Meunim who were found there, and destroyed them utterly to this day, and lived in their place; because there was pasture there for their flocks. 42Some of them, even of the sons of Simeon, five hundred men, went to Mount Seir, having for their captains Pelatiah, and Neariah, and Rephaiah, and Uzziel, the sons of Ishi. 43They struck the remnant of the Amalekites who escaped, and have lived there to this day.

En God liet komen, wat hij begeerde. 11En Chelub, de broeder van Suha, gewon Mechir; hij is de vader van Eston. 12Eston nu gewon Beth-rafa, en Pasea, en Tehinna, den vader van Ir-nahas; dit zijn de mannen van Recha. 13En de kinderen van Kenaz waren Othniel en Seraja; en de kinderen van Othniel, Hathath. 14En Meonothai gewon Ofra; en Seraja gewon Joab, den vader des dals der werkmeesters; want zij waren werkmeesters. 15De kinderen van Kaleb nu, den zoon van Jefunne, waren Iru, Ela en Naam; en de kinderen van Ela, te weten Kenaz. 16En de kinderen van Jehalelel waren Zif en Zifa, Thirea en Asareel. 17En de kinderen van Ezra waren Jether, en Mered, en Efer, en Jalon; en zij baarde Mirjam, en Sammai, en Isbah, den vader van Esthemoa. 18En zijn Joodse huisvrouw baarde Jered, den vader van Gedor, en Heber, den vader van Socho, en Jekuthiel, den vader van Bitja, de dochter van Farao, die Mered genomen had. 19En de kinderen van de huisvrouw Hodija, de zuster van Naham, waren Abi-Kehila, de Garmiet, en Esthemoa, de Maachathiet. 20En de kinderen van Simon nu waren Amnon en Rinna, Ben-hanan en Tilon; en de kinderen van Isei waren Zoheth en Ben-Zoheth. 21De kinderen van Sela, den zoon van Juda, waren Er, de vader van Lecha, en Lada, de vader van Maresa; en de huisgezinnen van het huis der linnenwerkers in het huis Asbea. 22Daartoe Jokim, en de mannen van Chozeba, en Joas, en Saraf (die over de Moabieten geheerst hebben) en de Jasubilehem; doch deze dingen zijn oud. 23Dezen waren pottenbakkers, wonende bij plantages en tuinen; zij zijn daar gebleven bij den koning in zijn werk. 24De kinderen van Simeon waren Nemuel en Jamin, Jarib, Zerah, Saul. 25Sallum was zijn zoon; Mibsam was zijn zoon; Misma was zijn zoon. 26De kinderen van Misma waren dezen: Hammuel zijn zoon, Zaccur zijn zoon, Simei zijn zoon. 27Simei nu had zestien zonen en zes dochteren; maar zijn broeders hadden niet veel kinderen; en hun ganse huisgezin werd zo zeer niet vermenigvuldigd, als van de kinderen van Juda. 28En zij woonden te Ber-seba, en te Molada, en te Hazar-Sual, 29En te Bilha, en te Ezem, en te Tholad, 30En te Bethuel, en te Horma, en te Ziklag, 31En te Beth-markaboth, en te Hazar-Susim, en te Beth-Biri, en te Saaraim. Dit waren hun steden, totdat David koning werd. 32En hun dorpen waren Etam en Ain, Rimmon en Tochen, en Asan; vijf steden. 33En al haar dorpen, die in den omloop dezer steden waren, tot Baal toe. Dit zijn hun woningen en hun geslachtsrekening voor hen. 34Doch Mesobab, en Jamlech, en Josa, de zoon van Amazia, 35En Joel, en Jehu, de zoon van Jesibja, den zoon van Saraja, den zoon van Asiel, 36En Eljoenai, en Jaakoba, en Jesohaja, en Asaja, en Adiel, en Jesimeel, en Benaja, 37En Ziza, de zoon van Sifei, den zoon van Allon, den zoon van Jedaja, den zoon van Simri, den zoon van Semaja; 38Dezen kwamen tot namen, zijnde vorsten in hun huisgezinnen, en de huisgezinnen hunner vaderen braken uit in menigte. 39En zij gingen tot aan den ingang van Gedor tot het oosten des dals, om weide te zoeken voor hun schapen. 40En zij vonden vette en goede weide, en een land, wijd van begrip, en stil, en gerust; want die van Cham woonden daar tevoren. 41Dezen nu, die met namen beschreven zijn, kwamen in de dagen van Hizkia, den koning van Juda, en zij sloegen de tenten en woningen dergenen, die daar gevonden werden; en zij verbanden hen, tot op dezen dag; en zij woonden aan hun plaats, want daar was weide voor hun schapen. 42Ook gingen uit hen, te weten uit de kinderen van Simeon, vijfhonderd mannen, tot het gebergte van Seir; en Pelatja, en Nearja, en Refaja, en Izziel, de zonen van Isei, waren hun tot hoofden. 43En zij sloegen de overigen der ontkomenen onder de Amalekieten, en zij woonden aldaar tot op dezen dag.
