1Lorsque David fut établi dans sa maison, il dit à Nathan le prophète : Voici, j’habite dans une maison de cèdre, et l’arche de l’alliance de l’Éternel est sous une tente. 2Nathan répondit à David : Fais tout ce que tu as dans le cœur, car Dieu est avec toi. 3La nuit suivante, la parole de Dieu fut adressée à Nathan : 4Va dire à mon serviteur David : Ainsi parle l’Éternel : Ce ne sera pas toi qui me bâtiras une maison pour que j’en fasse ma demeure. 5Car je n’ai point habité dans une maison depuis le jour où j’ai fait monter Israël jusqu’à ce jour ; mais j’ai été de tente en tente et de demeure en demeure. 6Partout où j’ai marché avec tout Israël, ai-je dit un mot à quelqu’un des juges d’Israël à qui j’avais ordonné de paître mon peuple, ai-je dit : Pourquoi ne me bâtissez-vous pas une maison de cèdre ? 7Maintenant tu diras à mon serviteur David : Ainsi parle l’Éternel des armées : Je t’ai pris au pâturage, derrière les brebis, pour que tu fusses chef de mon peuple d’Israël ; 8j’ai été avec toi partout où tu as marché, j’ai exterminé tous tes ennemis devant toi, et j’ai rendu ton nom semblable au nom des grands qui sont sur la terre ; 9j’ai donné une demeure à mon peuple d’Israël, et je l’ai planté pour qu’il y soit fixé et ne soit plus agité, pour que les méchants ne le détruisent plus comme auparavant 10et comme à l’époque où j’avais établi des juges sur mon peuple d’Israël. J’ai humilié tous tes ennemis. Et je t’annonce que l’Éternel te bâtira une maison. 11Quand tes jours seront accomplis et que tu iras auprès de tes pères, j’élèverai ta postérité après toi, l’un de tes fils, et j’affermirai son règne. 12Ce sera lui qui me bâtira une maison, et j’affermirai pour toujours son trône. 13Je serai pour lui un père, et il sera pour moi un fils ; et je ne lui retirerai point ma grâce, comme je l’ai retirée à celui qui t’a précédé. 14Je l’établirai pour toujours dans ma maison et dans mon royaume, et son trône sera pour toujours affermi. 15Nathan rapporta à David toutes ces paroles et toute cette vision. 16Et le roi David alla se présenter devant l’Éternel, et dit : Qui suis-je, Éternel Dieu, et quelle est ma maison, pour que tu m’aies fait parvenir où je suis ? 17C’est peu de chose à tes yeux, ô Dieu ! Tu parles de la maison de ton serviteur pour les temps à venir. Et tu daignes porter les regards sur moi à la manière des hommes, toi qui es élevé, Éternel Dieu ! 18Que pourrait te dire encore David sur la gloire accordée à ton serviteur ? Tu connais ton serviteur. 19Ô Éternel ! c’est à cause de ton serviteur, et selon ton cœur, que tu as fait toutes ces grandes choses, pour les lui révéler. 20Ô Éternel ! nul n’est semblable à toi et il n’y a point d’autre Dieu que toi, d’après tout ce que nous avons entendu de nos oreilles. 21Est-il sur la terre une seule nation qui soit comme ton peuple d’Israël, que Dieu est venu racheter pour en former son peuple, pour te faire un nom et pour accomplir des miracles et des prodiges, en chassant des nations devant ton peuple que tu as racheté d’Égypte ? 22Tu as établi ton peuple d’Israël, pour qu’il fût ton peuple à toujours ; et toi, Éternel, tu es devenu son Dieu. 23Maintenant, ô Éternel ! que la parole que tu as prononcée sur ton serviteur et sur sa maison subsiste éternellement, et agis selon ta parole ! 24Qu’elle subsiste, afin que ton nom soit à jamais glorifié et que l’on dise : L’Éternel des armées, le Dieu d’Israël, est un Dieu pour Israël ! Et que la maison de David, ton serviteur, soit affermie devant toi ! 25Car toi-même, ô mon Dieu, tu as révélé à ton serviteur que tu lui bâtirais une maison. C’est pourquoi ton serviteur a osé prier devant toi. 26Maintenant, ô Éternel ! tu es Dieu, et tu as annoncé cette grâce à ton serviteur. 27Veuille donc bénir la maison de ton serviteur, afin qu’elle subsiste à toujours devant toi ! Car ce que tu bénis, ô Éternel ! est béni pour l’éternité.
1When David lived in his house, David said to Nathan the prophet, “Behold, I dwell in a house of cedar, but the ark of the covenant of Yahweh is under curtains.” 2Nathan said to David, “Do all that is in your heart; for God is with you.” 3That same night, the word of God came to Nathan, saying, 4“Go and tell David my servant, ‘Thus says Yahweh, “You shall not build me a house to dwell in; 5for I have not lived in a house since the day that I brought up Israel, to this day, but have gone from tent to tent, and from one tent to another. 6In all places in which I have walked with all Israel, did I speak a word with any of the judges of Israel, whom I commanded to be shepherd of my people, saying, ‘Why have you not built me a house of cedar?’”’ 7“Now therefore, you shall tell my servant David, ‘Thus says Yahweh of Armies, “I took you from the sheep pen, from following the sheep, that you should be prince over my people Israel. 8I have been with you wherever you have gone, and have cut off all your enemies from before you. I will make you a name, like the name of the great ones who are in the earth. 9I will appoint a place for my people Israel, and will plant them, that they may dwell in their own place, and be moved no more; neither shall the children of wickedness waste them any more, as at the first, 10and from the day that I commanded judges to be over my people Israel; and I will subdue all your enemies. Moreover I tell you that Yahweh will build you a house. 11It shall happen, when your days are fulfilled that you must go to be with your fathers, that I will set up your seed after you, who shall be of your sons; and I will establish his kingdom. 12He shall build me a house, and I will establish his throne forever. 13I will be his father, and he shall be my son. I will not take my loving kindness away from him, as I took it from him that was before you; 14but I will settle him in my house and in my kingdom forever. His throne shall be established forever.”’” 15According to all these words, and according to all this vision, so Nathan spoke to David. 16Then David the king went in, and sat before Yahweh; and he said, “Who am I, Yahweh God, and what is my house, that you have brought me thus far? 17This was a small thing in your eyes, God; but you have spoken of your servant’s house for a great while to come, and have respected me according to the estate of a man of high degree, Yahweh God. 18What can David say yet more to you concerning the honor which is done to your servant? For you know your servant. 19Yahweh, for your servant’s sake, and according to your own heart, you have worked all this greatness, to make known all these great things. 20Yahweh, there is no one like you, neither is there any God besides you, according to all that we have heard with our ears. 21What one nation in the earth is like your people Israel, whom God went to redeem to himself for a people, to make you a name by great and awesome things, in driving out nations from before your people, whom you redeem out of Egypt? 22For your people Israel you made your own people forever; and you, Yahweh, became their God. 23Now, Yahweh, let the word that you have spoken concerning your servant, and concerning his house, be established forever, and do as you have spoken. 24Let your name be established and magnified forever, saying, ‘Yahweh of Armies is the God of Israel, even a God to Israel. The house of David your servant is established before you.’ 25For you, my God, have revealed to your servant that you will build him a house. Therefore your servant has found courage to pray before you. 26Now, Yahweh, you are God, and have promised this good thing to your servant. 27Now it has pleased you to bless the house of your servant, that it may continue forever before you; for you, Yahweh, have blessed, and it is blessed forever.”
1Het geschiedde nu, als David in zijn huis woonde, dat David tot Nathan, den profeet, zeide: Zie, ik woon in een cederen huis, maar de ark des verbonds des HEEREN onder gordijnen. 2Toen zeide Nathan tot David: Doe alles, wat in uw hart is, want God is met u. 3Maar het geschiedde in denzelven nacht, dat het woord Gods tot Nathan kwam, zeggende: 4Ga heen en zeg tot David, Mijn knecht: Alzo zegt de HEERE: Gij zult Mij geen huis bouwen, om in te wonen. 5Want Ik heb in geen huis gewoond van dien dag af, dat Ik Israel heb opgevoerd tot dezen dag toe; maar Ik ben gegaan van tent tot tent, en van tabernakel tot tabernakel. 6Overal, waar Ik gewandeld heb met geheel Israel, heb Ik wel een woord gesproken tot een van de richters van Israel, denwelken Ik gebood Mijn volk te weiden, zeggende: Waarom bouwt gijlieden Mij geen cederen huis? 7Nu dan, alzo zult gij zeggen tot Mijn knecht, tot David: Zo zegt de HEERE der heirscharen: Ik heb u van de schaapskooi genomen, van achter de schapen, opdat gij een voorganger over Mijn volk Israel zoudt zijn; 8En Ik ben met u geweest overal, waar gij heengegaan zijt, en Ik heb al uw vijanden uitgeroeid van voor uw aangezicht; en Ik heb u een naam gemaakt, gelijk de naam is der groten, die op de aarde zijn. 9En Ik heb voor Mijn volk Israel een plaats besteld, en hem geplant, dat hij aan zijn plaats wone, en niet meer heen en weder gedreven worde; en de kinderen der verkeerdheid zullen hem niet meer krenken, gelijk als in het eerst. 10En van die dagen af, dat Ik geboden heb richters te wezen over Mijn volk Israel; en heb al uw vijanden vernederd; ook heb Ik u te kennen gegeven, dat u de HEERE een huis bouwen zal. 11En het zal geschieden, als uw dagen zullen vervuld zijn, dat gij heengaat tot uw vaderen, zo zal Ik uw zaad na u doen opstaan, hetwelk uit uw zonen zijn zal, en Ik zal zijn koninkrijk bevestigen. 12Die zal Mij een huis bouwen, en Ik zal zijn stoel bevestigen tot in der eeuwigheid. 13Ik zal hem tot een Vader zijn, en hij zal Mij tot een zoon zijn; en Mijn goedertierenheid zal Ik van hem niet wenden, gelijk als Ik die weggenomen heb van dien, die voor u geweest is; 14Maar Ik zal hem in Mijn huis bestendig maken, en in Mijn Koninkrijk tot in eeuwigheid; en zijn stoel zal vast zijn tot in eeuwigheid. 15Naar al deze woorden, en naar dit ganse gezicht, alzo sprak Nathan tot David. 16Toen kwam de koning David in, en bleef voor het aangezicht des HEEREN, en hij zeide: Wie ben ik, HEERE God, en wat is mijn huis, dat Gij mij tot hiertoe gebracht hebt? 17En dit is klein in Uw ogen geweest, o God! daarom hebt Gij van het huis Uws knechts tot van verre heen gesproken, en Gij hebt mij naar menselijke wijze voorzien met deze verhoging, o HEERE God! 18Wat zal David meer bij U daartoe voegen, vanwege de eer aan Uw knecht? Doch Gij kent Uw knecht wel. 19HEERE, om Uws knechts wil, en naar Uw hart, hebt Gij al dezen grote dingen gedaan, om al deze grote dingen bekend te maken. 20HEERE, er is niemand gelijk Gij, en er is geen God behalve Gij, naar alles, wat wij met onze oren gehoord hebben. 21En wie is als Uw volk Israel, een enig volk op de aarde, hetwelk God heengegaan is Zich tot een volk te verlossen, dat Gij U een Naam maaktet van grote en verschrikkelijke dingen, met de heidenen uit te stoten van het aangezicht Uws volks, hetwelk Gij uit Egypte verlost hebt? 22En Gij hebt Uw volk Israel U ten volk gemaakt tot in der eeuwigheid; en Gij, HEERE, zijt hun tot een God geworden. 23Nu dan, HEERE, het woord, dat Gij over Uw knecht gesproken hebt, en over zijn huis, dat worde waar tot in eeuwigheid; en doe, gelijk als Gij gesproken hebt. 24Ja, het worde waar, en Uw Naam worde groot gemaakt tot in eeuwigheid, dat men zegge: De HEERE der heirscharen, de God van Israel, is Israels God; en het huis van David, Uw knecht, zij bestendig voor Uw aangezicht. 25Want Gij, mijn God, hebt voor het oor Uws knechts geopenbaard, dat Gij hem een huis bouwen zoudt; daarom heeft Uw knecht in zijn hart gevonden, om voor Uw aangezicht te bidden. 26Nu dan, HEERE, Gij zijt die God; en Gij hebt dit goede over Uw knecht gesproken. 27Nu dan, het heeft U beliefd te zegenen het huis Uws knechts, dat het in eeuwigheid voor Uw aangezicht zij; want Gij, HEERE, hebt het gezegend, en het zal gezegend zijn in eeuwigheid.
