1Και ήλθον οι άνδρες της Κιριάθ-ιαρείμ, και ανεβίβασαν την κιβωτόν του Κυρίου και έφεραν αυτήν εις τον οίκον του Αβιναδάβ επί τον λόφον, και Ελεάζαρ τον υιόν αυτού καθιέρωσαν, διά να φυλάττη την κιβωτόν του Κυρίου. 2Και αφ' ης ημέρας ετέθη η κιβωτός εν Κιριάθ-ιαρείμ, παρήλθε καιρός πολύς· και έγειναν είκοσι έτη· και πας ο οίκος Ισραήλ εστέναζεν, αναζητών τον Κύριον. 3Και είπε Σαμουήλ προς πάντα τον οίκον Ισραήλ, λέγων, Εάν σεις επιστρέφητε εξ όλης υμών της καρδίας προς τον Κύριον, αποβάλετε εκ μέσου υμών τους Θεούς τους αλλοτρίους και τας Ασταρώθ, και ετοιμάσατε τας καρδίας υμών προς τον Κύριον και αυτόν μόνον λατρεύετε· και θέλει ελευθερώσει υμάς εκ χειρός των Φιλισταίων. 4Τότε απέβαλον οι υιοί Ισραήλ τους Βααλείμ και τας Ασταρώθ και ελάτρευσαν τον Κύριον μόνον. 5Και είπε Σαμουήλ, Συνάξατε πάντα τον Ισραήλ εις Μισπά, και θέλω προσευχηθή υπέρ υμών προς τον Κύριον. 6Και συνήχθησαν ομού εις Μισπά, και ήντλησαν ύδωρ και εξέχεαν ενώπιον του Κυρίου, και ενήστευσαν την ημέραν εκείνην και είπον εκεί, Ημαρτήσαμεν εις τον Κύριον. Και έκρινεν ο Σαμουήλ τους υιούς Ισραήλ εν Μισπά. 7Ότε δε ήκουσαν οι Φιλισταίοι ότι συνηθροίσθησαν οι υιοί Ισραήλ εις Μισπά ανέβησαν οι σατράπαι των Φιλισταίων κατά του Ισραήλ. Και ακούσαντες οι υιοί Ισραήλ, εφοβήθησαν από προσώπου των Φιλισταίων. 8Και είπον οι υιοί Ισραήλ προς τον Σαμουήλ, Μη παύσης βοών υπέρ ημών προς Κύριον τον Θεόν ημών, διά να σώση ημάς εκ χειρός των Φιλισταίων. 9Και έλαβεν ο Σαμουήλ εν αρνίον γαλαθηνόν, και προσέφερεν ολόκληρον ολοκαύτωμα εις τον Κύριον· και εβόησεν ο Σαμουήλ προς τον Κύριον υπέρ του Ισραήλ· και επήκουσεν αυτού ο Κύριος. 10Και ενώ προσέφερεν ο Σαμουήλ το ολοκαύτωμα, επλησίασαν οι Φιλισταίοι διά να πολεμήσωσι κατά του Ισραήλ· και εβρόντησεν ο Κύριος εν φωνή μεγάλη την ημέραν εκείνην επί τους Φιλισταίους και κατετρόπωσεν αυτούς· και εκτυπήθησαν έμπροσθεν του Ισραήλ. 11Και εξήλθον οι άνδρες Ισραήλ εκ Μισπά, και κατεδίωξαν τους Φιλισταίους και επάταξαν αυτούς, έως υποκάτω της Βαιθ-χαρ. 12Τότε έλαβεν ο Σαμουήλ ένα λίθον και έστησε μεταξύ Μισπά και Σεν και εκάλεσε το όνομα αυτού Έβεν-έζερ, λέγων, Μέχρι τούδε εβοήθησεν ημάς ο Κύριος. 13Και εταπεινώθησαν οι Φιλισταίοι και δεν ήλθον πλέον εις τα όρια του Ισραήλ· και ήτο η χειρ του Κυρίου κατά των Φιλισταίων πάσας τας ημέρας του Σαμουήλ. 14Και αι πόλεις, τας οποίας οι Φιλισταίοι είχον λάβει από του Ισραήλ, απεδόθησαν εις τον Ισραήλ, από Ακκαρών έως Γάθ· και ηλευθέρωσεν ο Ισραήλ τα όρια αυτών εκ χειρός των Φιλισταίων. Και ήτο ειρήνη μεταξύ Ισραήλ και Αμορραίων. 15Και έκρινεν ο Σαμουήλ τον Ισραήλ πάσας τας ημέρας της ζωής αυτού· 16και επορεύετο κατ' έτος περιερχόμενος εις Βαιθήλ και Γάλγαλα και Μισπά και έκρινε τον Ισραήλ εν πάσι τοις τόποις τούτοις· 17η δε επιστροφή αυτού ήτο εις Ραμά· διότι εκεί ήτο ο οίκος αυτού και εκεί έκρινε τον Ισραήλ· εκεί προσέτι ωκοδόμησε θυσιαστήριον εις τον Κύριον.
1The men of Kiriath Jearim came, and took Yahweh’s ark, and brought it into the house of Abinadab in the hill, and sanctified Eleazar his son to keep Yahweh’s ark. 2From the day that the ark stayed in Kiriath Jearim, the time was long; for it was twenty years: and all the house of Israel lamented after Yahweh. 3Samuel spoke to all the house of Israel, saying, “If you do return to Yahweh with all your heart, then put away the foreign gods and the Ashtaroth from among you, and direct your hearts to Yahweh, and serve him only; and he will deliver you out of the hand of the Philistines.” 4Then the children of Israel removed the Baals and the Ashtaroth, and served Yahweh only. 5Samuel said, “Gather all Israel to Mizpah, and I will pray for you to Yahweh.” 6They gathered together to Mizpah, and drew water, and poured it out before Yahweh, and fasted on that day, and said there, “We have sinned against Yahweh.” Samuel judged the children of Israel in Mizpah. 7When the Philistines heard that the children of Israel were gathered together at Mizpah, the lords of the Philistines went up against Israel. When the children of Israel heard it, they were afraid of the Philistines. 8The children of Israel said to Samuel, “Don’t cease to cry to Yahweh our God for us, that he will save us out of the hand of the Philistines.” 9Samuel took a suckling lamb, and offered it for a whole burnt offering to Yahweh: and Samuel cried to Yahweh for Israel; and Yahweh answered him. 10As Samuel was offering up the burnt offering, the Philistines drew near to battle against Israel; but Yahweh thundered with a great thunder on that day on the Philistines, and confused them; and they were struck down before Israel. 11The men of Israel went out of Mizpah, and pursued the Philistines, and struck them, until they came under Beth Kar. 12Then Samuel took a stone, and set it between Mizpah and Shen, and called its name Ebenezer, saying, “Yahweh helped us until now.” 13So the Philistines were subdued, and they came no more within the border of Israel. The hand of Yahweh was against the Philistines all the days of Samuel. 14The cities which the Philistines had taken from Israel were restored to Israel, from Ekron even to Gath; and Israel recovered its border out of the hand of the Philistines. There was peace between Israel and the Amorites. 15Samuel judged Israel all the days of his life. 16He went from year to year in circuit to Bethel and Gilgal, and Mizpah; and he judged Israel in all those places. 17His return was to Ramah, for there was his house; and there he judged Israel: and he built there an altar to Yahweh.

Alzo richtte Samuel de kinderen Israels te Mizpa. 7Toen de Filistijnen hoorden, dat de kinderen Israels zich vergaderd hadden te Mizpa, zo kwamen de oversten der Filistijnen op tegen Israel. Als de kinderen Israels dat hoorden, zo vreesden zij voor het aangezicht der Filistijnen. 8En de kinderen Israels zeiden tot Samuel: Zwijg niet van onzentwege, dat gij niet zoudt roepen tot den HEERE, onzen God, opdat Hij ons verlosse uit de hand der Filistijnen. 9Toen nam Samuel een melklam, en hij offerde het geheel den HEERE ten brandoffer; en Samuel riep tot den HEERE voor Israel; en de HEERE verhoorde hem. 10En het geschiedde, toen Samuel dat brandoffer offerde, zo kwamen de Filistijnen aan ten strijde tegen Israel; en de HEERE donderde te dien dage met een groten donder over de Filistijnen, en Hij verschrikte hen, zodat zij verslagen werden voor het aangezicht van Israel. 11En de mannen van Israel togen uit van Mizpa, en vervolgden de Filistijnen, en zij sloegen hen tot onder Beth-kar. 12Samuel nu nam een steen, en stelde dien tussen Mizpa en tussen Sen, en hij noemde diens naam Eben-Haezer; en hij zeide: Tot hiertoe heeft de HEERE ons geholpen. 13Alzo werden de Filistijnen vernederd, en kwamen niet meer in de landpalen van Israel; want de hand des HEEREN was tegen de Filistijnen al de dagen van Samuel. 14En de steden, welke de Filistijnen van Israel genomen hadden kwamen weder aan Israel, van Ekron tot Gath toe; ook rukte Israel derzelver landpale uit de hand der Filistijnen; en er was vrede tussen Israel en tussen de Amorieten. 15Samuel nu richtte Israel al de dagen zijns levens. 16En hij toog van jaar tot jaar, en ging rondom naar Beth-El, en Gilgal, en Mizpa; en hij richtte Israel in al die plaatsen. 17Doch hij keerde weder naar Rama; want daar was zijn huis, en daar richtte hij Israel; en hij bouwde aldaar den HEERE een altaar.
