1Κατ' εκείνας δε τας ημέρας συνήθροισαν οι Φιλισταίοι τα στρατεύματα αυτών προς εκστρατείαν, διά να πολεμήσωσι μετά του Ισραήλ. Και είπεν ο Αγχούς προς τον Δαβίδ, Έξευρε μετά βεβαιότητος ότι θέλεις εξέλθει μετ' εμού εις τον πόλεμον, συ και οι άνδρες σου. 2Και είπεν ο Δαβίδ προς τον Αγχούς, Θέλεις βεβαίως γνωρίσει τι θέλει κάμει ο δούλός σου. Και είπεν ο Αγχούς προς τον Δαβίδ, Διά τούτο θέλω σε κάμει αρχισωματοφύλακά μου διαπαντός. 3Απέθανε δε ο Σαμουήλ, και πας ο Ισραήλ εθρήνησεν αυτόν και ενεταφίασεν αυτόν εν Ραμά τη πόλει αυτού. Και εξέβαλεν ο Σαούλ εκ του τόπου τους έχοντας πνεύμα μαντείας και τους μάγους. 4Συνηθροίσθησαν λοιπόν οι Φιλισταίοι και ήλθον και εστρατοπέδευσαν εν Σουνήμ· και συνήθροισεν ο Σαούλ πάντα τον Ισραήλ, και εστρατοπέδευσαν εν Γελβουέ. 5Και ότε είδεν ο Σαούλ το στρατόπεδον των Φιλισταίων, εφοβήθη, και ετρόμαξεν η καρδία αυτού σφόδρα. 6Και ηρώτησεν ο Σαούλ τον Κύριον· αλλ' ο Κύριος δεν απεκρίθη προς αυτόν ούτε δι' ενυπνίων ούτε διά του Ουρίμ ούτε διά προφητών. 7Τότε είπεν ο Σαούλ προς τους δούλους αυτού, Ζητήσατέ μοι γυναίκα έχουσαν πνεύμα μαντείας, διά να υπάγω προς αυτήν και να ερωτήσω αυτήν. Και οι δούλοι αυτού είπον προς αυτόν, Ιδού, είναι εν Εν-δωρ γυνή τις έχουσα πνεύμα μαντείας. 8Και μετεσχηματίσθη ο Σαούλ και ενεδύθη άλλα ιμάτια, και υπήγεν αυτός και δύο άνδρες μετ' αυτού και ήλθον προς την γυναίκα διά νυκτός· και είπε, Μάντευσον, παρακαλώ, εις εμέ διά του πνεύματος της μαντείας και αναβίβασόν μοι όντινα σοι είπω. 9Και είπεν η γυνή προς αυτόν, Ιδού, συ εξεύρεις όσα έκαμεν ο Σαούλ, τίνι τρόπω εξωλόθρευσε τους έχοντας πνεύμα μαντείας και τους μάγους εκ του τόπου· διά τι λοιπόν συ παγιδεύεις την ζωήν μου, διά να με θανατώσωσι; 10Και ώμοσε προς αυτήν ο Σαούλ εις τον Κύριον, λέγων, Ζη Κύριος, δεν θέλει σε συμβή ουδέν κακόν διά τούτο. 11Τότε είπεν η γυνή, Τίνα να σοι αναβιβάσω; Και είπε, τον Σαμουήλ αναβίβασόν μοι. 12Και ότε είδεν γυνή τον Σαμουήλ, εβόησε μετά φωνής μεγάλης· και είπεν η γυνή προς τον Σαούλ, λέγουσα, Διά τι με ηπάτησας; και συ είσαι ο Σαούλ. 13Και είπε προς αυτήν ο βασιλεύς, Μη φοβού· τι είδες λοιπόν; Και είπεν η γυνή προς τον Σαούλ, Θεούς είδον αναβαίνοντας εκ της γης. 14Και είπε προς αυτήν, Τις είναι η μορφή αυτού; Η δε είπε, Γέρων τις αναβαίνει και είναι περιτετυλιγμένος με επένδυμα. Και εγνώρισεν ο Σαούλ ότι ήτο ο Σαμουήλ, και έκυψε κατά πρόσωπον εις την γην και προσεκύνησε. 15Και είπεν ο Σαμουήλ προς τον Σαούλ, Διά τι με παρηνώχλησας, ώστε να με κάμης να αναβώ; Και απεκρίθη ο Σαούλ, Ευρίσκομαι εν μεγάλη αμηχανία· διότι οι Φιλισταίοι πολεμούσιν εναντίον μου, και ο Θεός απεμακρύνθη απ' εμού και δεν μοι αποκρίνεται πλέον ούτε διά προφητών ούτε δι' ενυπνίων· διά τούτο σε εκάλεσα διά να φανερώσης εις εμέ τι να κάμω. 16Τότε είπεν ο Σαμουήλ, Διά τι λοιπόν ερωτάς εμέ, αφού ο Κύριος απεμακρύνθη από σου και έγεινεν εχθρός σου; 17ο Κύριος βεβαίως έκαμεν εις εαυτόν ως ελάλησε δι' εμού· διότι εξέσχισεν ο Κύριος την βασιλείαν εκ της χειρός σου και έδωκεν αυτήν εις τον πλησίον σου, τον Δαβίδ· 18επειδή δεν υπήκουσας εις την φωνήν του Κυρίου, ουδέ εξετέλεσας τον μέγαν θυμόν αυτού κατά του Αμαλήκ, διά τούτο ο Κύριος έκαμεν εις σε το πράγμα τούτο την ημέραν ταύτην· 19και θέλει παραδώσει ο Κύριος και τον Ισραήλ μετά σου εις την χείρα των Φιλισταίων· και αύριον συ και οι υιοί σου θέλετε είσθαι μετ' εμού· και το στρατόπεδον του Ισραήλ θέλει παραδώσει ο Κύριος εις την χείρα των Φιλισταίων. 20Τότε έπεσεν ο Σαούλ ευθύς όλος εξηπλωμένος κατά γής· διότι κατετρόμαξεν εκ των λόγων του Σαμουήλ· και δύναμις δεν ήτο εν αυτώ, επειδή δεν είχε φάγει άρτον όλην την ημέραν και όλην την νύκτα. 21Και ήλθεν η γυνή προς τον Σαούλ και είδεν ότι ήτο σφόδρα τεταραγμένος, και είπε προς αυτόν, Ιδού, η δούλη σου υπήκουσεν εις την φωνήν σου, και έβαλον την ζωήν μου εις την χείρα μου και υπετάχθην εις τους λόγους σου, τους οποίους ελάλησας προς εμέ· 22τώρα λοιπόν, άκουσον και συ, παρακαλώ, την φωνήν της δούλης σου, και ας βάλω ολίγον άρτον έμπροσθέν σου· και φάγε, διά να λάβης δύναμιν, επειδή υπάγεις εις οδοιπορίαν. 23Πλην δεν ήθελε, λέγων, Δεν θέλω φάγει· οι δούλοι όμως αυτού μετά της γυναικός εβίαζον αυτόν, και εισήκουσεν εις την φωνήν αυτών· και σηκωθείς από της γης, εκάθησεν επί της κλίνης. 24είχε δε η γυνή παχύ δαμάλιον εν τη οικία· και έσπευσε και έσφαξεν αυτό· και λαβούσα άλευρον, εζύμωσε και έψησεν άζυμα εξ αυτού. 25Και έφερεν έμπροσθεν του Σαούλ και έμπροσθεν των δούλων αυτού· και έφαγον. Και εσηκώθησαν και ανεχώρησαν την νύκτα εκείνην.
1In those days, the Philistines gathered their armies together for warfare, to fight with Israel. Achish said to David, “Know assuredly that you shall go out with me in the army, you and your men.” 2David said to Achish, “Therefore you shall know what your servant will do.” Achish said to David, “Therefore will I make you my bodyguard for ever.” 3Now Samuel was dead, and all Israel had lamented him, and buried him in Ramah, even in his own city. Saul had put away those who had familiar spirits, and the wizards, out of the land. 4The Philistines gathered themselves together, and came and encamped in Shunem: and Saul gathered all Israel together, and they encamped in Gilboa. 5When Saul saw the army of the Philistines, he was afraid, and his heart trembled greatly. 6When Saul inquired of Yahweh, Yahweh didn’t answer him, neither by dreams, nor by Urim, nor by prophets. 7Then Saul said to his servants, “Seek me a woman who has a familiar spirit, that I may go to her, and inquire of her.” His servants said to him, “Behold, there is a woman who has a familiar spirit at Endor.” 8Saul disguised himself, and put on other clothing, and went, he and two men with him, and they came to the woman by night: and he said, “Please divine to me by the familiar spirit, and bring me up whomever I shall name to you.” 9The woman said to him, “Behold, you know what Saul has done, how he has cut off those who have familiar spirits, and the wizards, out of the land. Why then do you lay a snare for my life, to cause me to die?” 10Saul swore to her by Yahweh, saying, “As Yahweh lives, no punishment shall happen to you for this thing.” 11Then the woman said, “Whom shall I bring up to you?” He said, “Bring Samuel up for me.” 12When the woman saw Samuel, she cried with a loud voice; and the woman spoke to Saul, saying, “Why have you deceived me? For you are Saul!” 13The king said to her, “Don’t be afraid. For what do you see?” The woman said to Saul, “I see a god coming up out of the earth.” 14He said to her, “What does he look like?” She said, “An old man comes up. He is covered with a robe.” Saul perceived that it was Samuel, and he bowed with his face to the ground, and showed respect. 15Samuel said to Saul, “Why have you disturbed me, to bring me up?” Saul answered, “I am very distressed; for the Philistines make war against me, and God has departed from me, and answers me no more, neither by prophets, nor by dreams. Therefore I have called you, that you may make known to me what I shall do.” 16Samuel said, “Why then do you ask of me, since Yahweh has departed from you and has become your adversary? 17Yahweh has done to you as he spoke by me. Yahweh has torn the kingdom out of your hand, and given it to your neighbor, even to David. 18Because you didn’t obey the voice of Yahweh, and didn’t execute his fierce wrath on Amalek, therefore Yahweh has done this thing to you this day. 19Moreover Yahweh will deliver Israel also with you into the hand of the Philistines; and tomorrow you and your sons will be with me. Yahweh will deliver the army of Israel also into the hand of the Philistines.” 20Then Saul fell immediately his full length on the earth, and was terrified, because of the words of Samuel. There was no strength in him; for he had eaten no bread all the day, nor all the night. 21The woman came to Saul, and saw that he was very troubled, and said to him, “Behold, your handmaid has listened to your voice, and I have put my life in my hand, and have listened to your words which you spoke to me. 22Now therefore, please listen also to the voice of your handmaid, and let me set a morsel of bread before you; and eat, that you may have strength, when you go on your way.” 23But he refused, and said, “I will not eat.” But his servants, together with the woman, constrained him; and he listened to their voice. So he arose from the earth and sat on the bed. 24The woman had a fattened calf in the house. She hurried and killed it; and she took flour, and kneaded it, and baked unleavened bread of it. 25She brought it before Saul, and before his servants; and they ate. Then they rose up, and went away that night.

Zijn knechten nu zeiden tot hem: Zie, te Endor is een vrouw, die een waarzeggenden geest heeft. 8En Saul verstelde zich, en trok andere klederen aan, en ging heen, en twee mannen met hem, en zij kwamen des nachts tot de vrouw, en hij zeide: Voorzeg mij toch door den waarzeggenden geest, en doe mij opkomen, dien ik tot u zeggen zal. 9Toen zeide de vrouw tot hem: Zie, gij weet, wat Saul gedaan heeft, hoe hij de waarzegsters en de duivelskunstenaars uit dit land heeft uitgeroeid; waarom stelt gij dan mijn ziel een strik, om mij te doden? 10Saul nu zwoer haar bij den HEERE, zeggende: Zo waarachtig als de HEERE leeft, indien u een straf om deze zaak zal overkomen! 11Toen zeide de vrouw: Wien zal ik u doen opkomen? En hij zeide: Doe mij Samuel opkomen. 12Toen nu de vrouw Samuel zag, zo riep zij met luider stem, en de vrouw sprak tot Saul, zeggende: Waarom hebt gij mij bedrogen? Want gij zijt Saul. 13En de koning zeide tot haar: Vrees niet; maar wat ziet gij? Toen zeide de vrouw tot Saul: Ik zie goden, uit de aarde opkomende. 14Hij dan zeide tot haar: Hoe is zijn gedaante? En zij zeide: Er komt een oud man op, en hij is met een mantel bekleed. Toen Saul vernam, dat het Samuel was, zo neigde hij zich met het aangezicht ter aarde, en hij boog zich. 15En Samuel zeide tot Saul: Waarom hebt gij mij onrustig gemaakt, mij doende opkomen? Toen zeide Saul: Ik ben zeer beangstigd, want de Filistijnen krijgen tegen mij, en God is van mij geweken, en antwoordt mij niet meer, noch door den dienst der profeten, noch door dromen; daarom heb ik u geroepen, dat gij mij te kennen geeft, wat ik doen zal. 16Toen zeide Samuel: Waarom vraagt gij mij toch, dewijl de HEERE van u geweken en uw vijand geworden is? 17Want de HEERE heeft voor Zich gedaan, gelijk als Hij door mijn dienst gesproken heeft; en heeft het koninkrijk van uw hand gescheurd, en Hij heeft dat gegeven aan uw naaste, aan David. 18Gelijk als gij naar de stem des HEEREN niet gehoord hebt, en de hittigheid Zijns toorns niet uitgericht hebt tegen Amalek; daarom heeft de HEERE u deze zaak gedaan te dezen dage. 19En de HEERE zal ook Israel met u in de hand der Filistijnen geven, en morgen zult gij en uw zonen bij mij zijn; ook zal de HEERE het leger van Israel in de hand der Filistijnen geven. 20Toen viel Saul haastelijk ter aarde, zo lang als hij was, en hij vreesde zeer vanwege de woorden van Samuel; ook was er geen kracht in hem; want hij had den gehelen dag en den gehelen nacht geen brood gegeten. 21De vrouw nu kwam tot Saul, en zag, dat hij zeer verbaasd was; en zij zeide tot hem: Zie, uw dienstmaagd heeft naar uw stem gehoord, en ik heb mijn ziel in mijn hand gesteld, en ik heb uw woorden gehoord, die gij tot mij gesproken hebt. 22Zo hoor toch gij nu ook naar de stem uwer dienstmaagd, en laat mij een bete broods voor u zetten, en eet; zo zal er kracht in u zijn, dat gij over weg gaat. 23Doch hij weigerde het, en zeide: Ik zal niet eten. Maar zijn knechten, en ook de vrouw, hielden bij hem aan. Toen hoorde hij naar hun stem, en hij stond op van de aarde, en zette zich op het bed. 24En de vrouw had een gemest kalf in het huis; en zij haastte zich en slachtte het; en zij nam meel, en kneedde het, en bakte daar ongezuurde van. 25En zij bracht ze voor Saul en voor zijn knechten, en zij aten; daarna stonden zij op, en gingen weg in dienzelfden nacht.
