1Είπε δε ο Δαβίδ εν τη καρδία αυτού, Θέλω βεβαίως απολεσθή μίαν ημέραν διά χειρός του Σαούλ· δεν είναι τι καλήτερον δι' εμέ, παρά να διασωθώ ταχέως εις την γην των Φιλισταίων· τότε απ' εμού ο Σαούλ απελπισθείς, θέλει παραιτηθή από του να με ζητή πλέον εις πάντα τα όρια του Ισραήλ· ούτω θέλω σωθή εκ της χειρός αυτού. 2Και εσηκώθη ο Δαβίδ και διέβη, αυτός και οι εξακόσιοι άνδρες οι μετ' αυτού, προς τον Αγχούς υιόν του Μαώχ, βασιλέα της Γαθ. 3Και εκάθησεν ο Δαβίδ μετά του Αγχούς εν Γαθ, αυτός και οι άνδρες αυτού, έκαστος μετά της οικογενείας αυτού, και ο Δαβίδ μετά των δύο γυναικών αυτού, Αχινοάμ της Ιεζραηλίτιδος και Αβιγαίας της Καρμηλίτιδος γυναικός του Νάβαλ. 4Ανηγγέλθη δε προς τον Σαούλ ότι έφυγεν ο Δαβίδ εις Γαθ. όθεν δεν εζήτησε πλέον αυτόν. 5Και είπεν ο Δαβίδ προς τον Αγχούς, Εάν εύρηκα τώρα χάριν εις τους οφθαλμούς σου, ας μοι δοθή τόπος εις τινά των πόλεων της εξοχής, διά να καθήσω εκεί· διότι πως να κάθηται ο δούλός σου μετά σου εν τη βασιλευούση πόλει; 6Και έδωκεν εις αυτόν ο Αγχούς την Σικλάγ κατ' εκείνην την ημέραν· διά τούτο η Σικλάγ έμεινεν εις τους βασιλείς του Ιούδα μέχρι της σήμερον. 7Ο δε αριθμός των ημερών, τας οποίας ο Δαβίδ εκάθησεν εν τη γη των Φιλισταίων, έγεινεν εν έτος και τέσσαρες μήνες. 8Ανέβαινε δε ο Δαβίδ και οι άνδρες αυτού και έκαμνον εισδρομάς εις τους Γεσσουρίτας και Γεζραίους και Αμαληκίτας· διότι ούτοι ήσαν εκ παλαιού οι κάτοικοι της γης, κατά την είσοδον Σούρ και έως της γης Αιγύπτου. 9Και εκτύπα ο Δαβίδ την γην και δεν άφινε ζώντα ούτε άνδρα ούτε γυναίκα· και ελάμβανε πρόβατα και βόας και όνους και καμήλους και ενδύματα· και επιστρέφων ήρχετο προς τον Αγχούς. 10Και έλεγεν ο Αγχούς προς τον Δαβίδ, που εκάμετε εισδρομήν σήμερον; Και απεκρίνετο ο Δαβίδ, προς το μεσημβρινόν του Ιούδα και προς το μεσημβρινόν των Ιεραμεηλιτών και προς το μεσημβρινόν των Κεναίων. 11Και ούτε άνδρα ούτε γυναίκα δεν άφινε ζώντα ο Δαβίδ, διά να φέρη είδησιν εις Γαθ, λέγων, Μήποτε αναγγείλωσιν εναντίον ημών, λέγοντες, Ούτω κάμνει ο Δαβίδ και τοιούτος είναι ο τρόπος αυτού, καθ' όλας τας ημέρας όσας κάθηται εν τη γη των Φιλισταίων. 12Και επίστευεν ο Αγχούς τον Δαβίδ, λέγων, Αυτός έκαμεν εαυτόν διόλου μισητόν εις τον λαόν αυτού τον Ισραήλ· διά τούτο θέλει είσθαι δούλος εις εμέ πάντοτε.
1David said in his heart, “I shall now perish one day by the hand of Saul. There is nothing better for me than that I should escape into the land of the Philistines; and Saul will despair of me, to seek me any more in all the borders of Israel. So shall I escape out of his hand.” 2David arose, and passed over, he and the six hundred men who were with him, to Achish the son of Maoch, king of Gath. 3David lived with Achish at Gath, he and his men, every man with his household, even David with his two wives, Ahinoam the Jezreelitess, and Abigail the Carmelitess, Nabal’s wife. 4It was told Saul that David was fled to Gath: and he sought no more again for him. 5David said to Achish, “If now I have found favor in your eyes, let them give me a place in one of the cities in the country, that I may dwell there. For why should your servant dwell in the royal city with you?” 6Then Achish gave him Ziklag that day: therefore Ziklag belongs to the kings of Judah to this day. 7The number of the days that David lived in the country of the Philistines was a full year and four months. 8David and his men went up, and made a raid on the Geshurites, and the Girzites, and the Amalekites; for those were the inhabitants of the land, who were of old, as you go to Shur, even to the land of Egypt. 9David struck the land, and saved neither man nor woman alive, and took away the sheep, and the cattle, and the donkeys, and the camels, and the clothing; and he returned, and came to Achish. 10Achish said, “Against whom have you made a raid today?” David said, “Against the South of Judah, against the South of the Jerahmeelites, and against the South of the Kenites.” 11David saved neither man nor woman alive, to bring them to Gath, saying, “Lest they should tell of us, saying, ‘David this, and this has been his way all the time he has lived in the country of the Philistines.’” 12Achish believed David, saying, “He has made his people Israel utterly to abhor him. Therefore he shall be my servant forever.”

En alzo was zijn wijze al de dagen, die hij in der Filistijnen land gewoond heeft. 12En Achis geloofde David, zeggende: Hij heeft zich ten enenmaal stinkende gemaakt bij zijn volk, in Israel; daarom zal hij eeuwiglijk mij tot een knecht zijn.
