1Guardatevi dal praticare la vostra giustizia nel cospetto degli uomini per esser osservati da loro; altrimenti non ne avrete premio presso il Padre vostro che è nei cieli. 2Quando dunque fai limosina, non far sonar la tromba dinanzi a te, come fanno gl’ipocriti nelle sinagoghe e nelle strade, per essere onorati dagli uomini. Io vi dico in verità che cotesto è il premio che ne hanno. 3Ma quando tu fai limosina, non sappia la tua sinistra quel che fa la destra, 4affinché la tua limosina si faccia in segreto; e il Padre tuo che vede nel segreto, te ne darà la ricompensa. 5E quando pregate, non siate come gl’ipocriti; poiché essi amano di fare orazione stando in piè nelle sinagoghe e ai canti delle piazze per esser veduti dagli uomini. Io vi dico in verità che cotesto è il premio che ne hanno. 6Ma tu, quando preghi, entra nella tua cameretta, e serratone l’uscio fa’ orazione al Padre tuo che è nel segreto; e il Padre tuo che vede nel segreto, te ne darà la ricompensa. 7E nel pregare non usate soverchie dicerie come fanno i pagani, i quali pensano d’essere esauditi per la moltitudine delle loro parole. 8Non li rassomigliate dunque, poiché il Padre vostro sa le cose di cui avete bisogno, prima che gliele chiediate. 9Voi dunque pregate così: Padre nostro che sei nei cieli, sia santificato il tuo nome; 10venga il tuo regno; sia fatta la tua volontà anche in terra com’è fatta nel cielo. 11Dacci oggi il nostro pane cotidiano; 12e rimettici i nostri debiti come anche noi li abbiamo rimessi ai nostri debitori; 13e non ci esporre alla tentazione, ma liberaci dal maligno. 14Poiché se voi perdonate agli uomini i loro falli, il Padre vostro celeste perdonerà anche a voi; 15ma se voi non perdonate agli uomini, neppure il Padre vostro perdonerà i vostri falli. 16E quando digiunate, non siate mesti d’aspetto come gl’ipocriti; poiché essi si sfigurano la faccia per far vedere agli uomini che digiunano. Io vi dico in verità che cotesto è il premio che ne hanno. 17Ma tu, quando digiuni, ungiti il capo e làvati la faccia, 18affinché non apparisca agli uomini che tu digiuni, ma al Padre tuo che è nel segreto; e il Padre tuo, che vede nel segreto, te ne darà la ricompensa. 19Non vi fate tesori sulla terra, ove la tignola e la ruggine consumano, e dove i ladri sconficcano e rubano; 20ma fatevi tesori in cielo, ove né tignola né ruggine consumano, e dove i ladri non sconficcano né rubano. 21Perché dov’è il tuo tesoro, quivi sarà anche il tuo cuore. 22La lampada del corpo è l’occhio. Se dunque l’occhio tuo è sano, tutto il tuo corpo sarà illuminato; 23ma se l’occhio tuo è viziato, tutto il tuo corpo sarà nelle tenebre. Se dunque la luce che è in te è tenebre, esse tenebre quanto grandi saranno! 24Niuno può servire a due padroni; perché o odierà l’uno ed amerà l’altro, o si atterrà all’uno e sprezzerà l’altro. Voi non potete servire a Dio ed a Mammona. 25Perciò vi dico: Non siate con ansietà solleciti per la vita vostra di quel che mangerete o di quel che berrete; né per il vostro corpo di che vi vestirete. Non è la vita più del nutrimento, e il corpo più del vestito? 26Guardate gli uccelli del cielo: non seminano, non mietono, non raccolgono in granai, e il Padre vostro celeste li nutrisce. Non siete voi assai più di loro? 27E chi di voi può con la sua sollecitudine aggiungere alla sua statura pure un cubito? 28E intorno al vestire, perché siete con ansietà solleciti? Considerate come crescono i gigli della campagna; essi non faticano e non filano; 29eppure io vi dico che nemmeno Salomone, con tutta la sua gloria, fu vestito come uno di loro. 30Or se Iddio riveste in questa maniera l’erba de’ campi che oggi è e domani è gettata nel forno, non vestirà Egli molto più voi, o gente di poca fede? 31Non siate dunque con ansietà solleciti, dicendo: Che mangeremo? che berremo? o di che ci vestiremo? 32Poiché sono i pagani che ricercano tutte queste cose; e il Padre vostro celeste sa che avete bisogno di tutte queste cose. 33Ma cercate prima il regno e la giustizia di Dio, e tutte queste cose vi saranno sopraggiunte. 34Non siate dunque con ansietà solleciti del domani; perché il domani sarà sollecito di se stesso. Basta a ciascun giorno il suo affanno.
1“Be careful that you don’t do your charitable giving before men, to be seen by them, or else you have no reward from your Father who is in heaven. 2Therefore when you do merciful deeds, don’t sound a trumpet before yourself, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may get glory from men. Most certainly I tell you, they have received their reward. 3But when you do merciful deeds, don’t let your left hand know what your right hand does, 4so that your merciful deeds may be in secret, then your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly. 5“When you pray, you shall not be as the hypocrites, for they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen by men. Most certainly, I tell you, they have received their reward. 6But you, when you pray, enter into your inner room, and having shut your door, pray to your Father who is in secret, and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly. 7In praying, don’t use vain repetitions, as the Gentiles do; for they think that they will be heard for their much speaking. 8Therefore don’t be like them, for your Father knows what things you need, before you ask him. 9Pray like this: ‘Our Father in heaven, may your name be kept holy. 10Let your Kingdom come. Let your will be done, as in heaven, so on earth. 11Give us today our daily bread. 12Forgive us our debts, as we also forgive our debtors. 13Bring us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. For yours is the Kingdom, the power, and the glory forever. Amen. ’ 14“For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. 15But if you don’t forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses. 16“Moreover when you fast, don’t be like the hypocrites, with sad faces. For they disfigure their faces, that they may be seen by men to be fasting. Most certainly I tell you, they have received their reward. 17But you, when you fast, anoint your head, and wash your face; 18so that you are not seen by men to be fasting, but by your Father who is in secret, and your Father, who sees in secret, will reward you. 19“Don’t lay up treasures for yourselves on the earth, where moth and rust consume, and where thieves break through and steal; 20but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust consume, and where thieves don’t break through and steal; 21for where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. 22“The lamp of the body is the eye. If therefore your eye is sound, your whole body will be full of light. 23But if your eye is evil, your whole body will be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in you is darkness, how great is the darkness! 24“No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other; or else he will be devoted to one and despise the other. You can’t serve both God and Mammon. 25Therefore I tell you, don’t be anxious for your life: what you will eat, or what you will drink; nor yet for your body, what you will wear. Isn’t life more than food, and the body more than clothing? 26See the birds of the sky, that they don’t sow, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns. Your heavenly Father feeds them. Aren’t you of much more value than they? 27“Which of you, by being anxious, can add one momentto his lifespan? 28Why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow. They don’t toil, neither do they spin, 29yet I tell you that even Solomon in all his glory was not dressed like one of these. 30But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today exists, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, won’t he much more clothe you, you of little faith? 31“Therefore don’t be anxious, saying, ‘What will we eat?’, ‘What will we drink?’ or, ‘With what will we be clothed?’ 32For the Gentiles seek after all these things; for your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. 33But seek first God’s Kingdom, and his righteousness; and all these things will be given to you as well. 34Therefore don’t be anxious for tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Each day’s own evil is sufficient.

Uw Naam worde geheiligd. 10Uw Koninkrijk kome. Uw wil geschiede, gelijk in den hemel alzo ook op de aarde. 11Geef ons heden ons dagelijks brood. 12En vergeef ons onze schulden, gelijk ook wij vergeven onzen schuldenaren. 13En leid ons niet in verzoeking, maar verlos ons van den boze. Voorwaar, Ik zeg u, dat zij hun loon weg hebben. 17Maar gij, als gij vast, zalft uw hoofd, en wast uw aangezicht; 18Opdat het van de mensen niet gezien worde, als gij vast, maar van uw Vader, Die in het verborgen is; en uw Vader, Die in het verborgen ziet, zal het u in het openbaar vergelden. 19Vergadert u geen schatten op de aarde, waar ze de mot en de roest verderft, en waar de dieven doorgraven en stelen; 20Maar vergadert u schatten in den hemel, waar ze noch mot noch roest verderft, en waar de dieven niet doorgraven noch stelen; 21Want waar uw schat is, daar zal ook uw hart zijn. 22De kaars des lichaams is het oog; indien dan uw oog eenvoudig is, zo zal uw gehele lichaam verlicht wezen; 23Maar indien uw oog boos is, zo zal geheel uw lichaam duister zijn. Indien dan het licht, dat in u is, duisternis is, hoe groot zal de duisternis zelve zijn! 24Niemand kan twee heren dienen; want of hij zal den enen haten en den anderen liefhebben, of hij zal den enen aanhangen en den anderen verachten; gij kunt niet God dienen en den Mammon. 25Daarom zeg Ik u: Zijt niet bezorgd voor uw leven, wat gij eten, en wat gij drinken zult; noch voor uw lichaam, waarmede gij u kleden zult; is het leven niet meer dan het voedsel, en het lichaam dan de kleding? 26Aanziet de vogelen des hemels, dat zij niet zaaien, noch maaien, noch verzamelen in de schuren; en uw hemelse Vader voedt nochtans dezelve; gaat gij dezelve niet zeer veel te boven? 27Wie toch van u kan, met bezorgd te zijn, een el tot zijn lengte toedoen? 28En wat zijt gij bezorgd voor de kleding? Aanmerkt de lelien des velds, hoe zij wassen; zij arbeiden niet, en spinnen niet; 29En Ik zeg u, dat ook Salomo, in al zijn heerlijkheid, niet is bekleed geweest, gelijk een van deze. 30Indien nu God het gras des velds, dat heden is, en morgen in den oven geworpen wordt, alzo bekleedt, zal Hij u niet veel meer kleden, gij kleingelovigen? 31Daarom zijt niet bezorgd, zeggende: Wat zullen wij eten, of wat zullen wij drinken, of waarmede zullen wij ons kleden? 32Want al deze dingen zoeken de heidenen; want uw hemelse Vader weet, dat gij al deze dingen behoeft. 33Maar zoekt eerst het Koninkrijk Gods en Zijn gerechtigheid, en al deze dingen zullen u toegeworpen worden. 34Zijt dan niet bezorgd tegen den morgen; want de morgen zal voor het zijne zorgen; elke dag heeft genoeg aan zijn zelfs kwaad.
