Ambillah posisimu dengan mengenakan ketopongmu, Asahlah tombak-tombakmu, kenakanlah baju perangmu. 5Mengapa Aku melihat itu? Mereka termangu-mangu dan berbalik ke belakang. Para pahlawan mereka dikalahkan dan melarikan diri dengan cepat tanpa menoleh ke belakang, kengerian ada di mana-mana,” firman TUHAN. 6“Jangan biarkan orang perkasa melarikan diri, atau orang kuat lolos. Di utara di dekat Sungai Efrat, mereka telah tersandung dan jatuh. 7Siapakah ini yang meluap seperti Sungai Nil, seperti sungai yang airnya bergelora? 8Mesir meluap seperti Sungai Nil, seperti sungai-sungai yang airnya bergelora. Ia berkata, ‘Aku akan meluap, aku akan menutupi bumi. Aku akan menghancurkan kota-kota dan penduduknya.’ 9Majulah, hai kuda-kuda, dan mengamuklah, hai kereta-kereta. Biarlah para pahlawan keluar, orang-orang Kus dan orang-orang Put, yang memegang perisai, dan orang-orang Lidia, yang memegang dan melengkungkan busur. 10Sebab, inilah harinya TUHAN, Allah semesta alam, hari pembalasan sehingga Dia dapat menuntut balas atas musuh-musuh-Nya. Pedang akan melahap dan dikenyangkan, serta akan puas minum darah mereka. Sebab, TUHAN, Allah semesta alam, mengadakan persembahan di negeri utara, di dekat Sungai Efrat. 11Pergilah ke Gilead dan ambillah balsam, hai anak-anak dara Mesir. Sia-sialah kamu menggunakan banyak obat, tidak ada kesembuhan bagimu. 12Bangsa-bangsa telah mendengar aibmu, dan bumi penuh dengan tangisanmu karena orang gagah telah tersandung pada orang gagah lainnya dan keduanya jatuh bersama-sama.” 13Firman yang TUHAN katakan kepada Nabi Yeremia mengenai kedatangan Nebukadnezar, raja Babel, untuk memukul negeri Mesir. 14“Umumkanlah di Mesir dan serukan di Migdol, kabarkanlah di Memfis dan Tahpanhes. Katakan, ‘Berdirilah tegak dan bersiap-siaplah karena pedang akan menelan semua yang ada di sekelilingmu.’ 15Mengapa orang-orang gagahmu tumbang? Mereka tidak berdiri karena TUHAN mendorong mereka jatuh. 16Dia membuat banyak orang tersandung, dan seorang jatuh ke atas yang lain, dan mereka berkata, ‘Bangkitlah, mari kita kembali kepada bangsa kita sendiri, dan ke tanah kelahiran kita, menjauh dari pedang penindas ini.’ 17Mereka berseru di sana, ‘Firaun, raja Mesir, hanyalah tukang ribut saja, yang membiarkan waktu yang ditetapkan berlalu.’” 18“Demi Aku yang hidup,” seru Sang Raja, yang namanya adalah TUHAN semesta alam. “Sesungguhnya, seperti Tabor di antara pegunungan dan seperti Karmel di dekat laut, seperti itulah dia akan datang. 19Kemasilah barang-barangmu untuk pembuangan, hai putri yang tinggal di Mesir. Sebab, Memfis akan menjadi suatu kengerian, suatu reruntuhan, tanpa penghuni. 20Mesir itu seperti sapi muda yang cantik, tetapi lalat pikat dari utara telah mendatanginya. 21Bahkan, tentara-tentara bayarannya yang ada di tengah-tengahnya seperti anak lembu yang tambun. Mereka pun berbalik dan melarikan diri bersama-sama. Mereka tidak dapat bertahan karena hari kemalangan mereka telah datang menimpa mereka, yaitu hari penghukuman mereka. 22Suaranya terdengar seperti seekor ular karena mereka maju dalam pasukan, dan mendatanginya dengan kapak seperti para penebang pohon.” 23“Mereka akan menebang hutannya,” firman TUHAN, Meskipun hutan itu tidak dapat diselidiki, karena mereka lebih banyak daripada belalang, mereka tidak terhitung. 24Anak perempuan Mesir akan dipermalukan, dia akan diserahkan ke tangan orang-orang utara.” 25TUHAN semesta alam, Allah Israel, berkata, “Ketahuilah, Aku akan menghukum Amon, dari Tebe, atas Firaun dan Mesir, beserta ilah-ilah dan raja-rajanya, bahkan atas Firaun dan orang-orang yang percaya kepadanya. 26Aku akan menyerahkan mereka ke tangan orang-orang yang berusaha membunuh mereka, ke tangan Nebukadnezar, raja Babel, dan ke tangan hamba-hambanya. Setelah itu, Mesir akan dihuni seperti zaman dahulu,” firman TUHAN. 27“Akan tetapi, jangan takut, hai hamba-Ku, Yakub. Jangan gentar, hai Israel. Sebab, ketahuilah, Aku akan menyelamatkanmu dari jauh, dan keturunanmu dari negeri tempat penawanan mereka. Yakub akan kembali dan mendapatkan ketenangan dan kemudahan, dan tidak seorang pun akan membuat ia takut.” 28“Jangan takut, hai Yakub, hamba-Ku,” firman TUHAN, “karena Aku menyertaimu. Aku akan mengakhiri semua bangsa tempat Aku telah menghalaumu. Aku tidak akan menghabisi kamu. Namun, Aku akan menghajarmu dengan adil dan Aku tidak akan membiarkanmu tanpa dihukum.”
1Yahweh’s word which came to Jeremiah the prophet concerning the nations. 2Of Egypt: concerning the army of Pharaoh Necoh king of Egypt, which was by the river Euphrates in Carchemish, which Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon struck in the fourth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah. 3Prepare the buckler and shield, and draw near to battle! 4Harness the horses, and get up, you horsemen, and stand up with your helmets; furbish the spears, put on the coats of mail. 5Why have I seen it? they are dismayed and are turned backward; and their mighty ones are beaten down, and have fled apace, and don’t look back: terror is on every side, says Yahweh. 6Don’t let the swift flee away, nor the mighty man escape; in the north by the river Euphrates have they stumbled and fallen. 7Who is this who rises up like the Nile, whose waters toss themselves like the rivers? 8Egypt rises up like the Nile, and his waters toss themselves like the rivers: and he says, I will rise up, I will cover the earth; I will destroy cities and its inhabitants. 9Go up, you horses; and rage, you chariots; and let the mighty men go out: Cush and Put, who handle the shield; and the Ludim, who handle and bend the bow. 10For that day is of the Lord, Yahweh of Armies, a day of vengeance, that he may avenge him of his adversaries: and the sword shall devour and be satiate, and shall drink its fill of their blood; for the Lord, Yahweh of Armies, has a sacrifice in the north country by the river Euphrates. 11Go up into Gilead, and take balm, virgin daughter of Egypt: in vain do you use many medicines; there is no healing for you. 12The nations have heard of your shame, and the earth is full of your cry; for the mighty man has stumbled against the mighty, they are fallen both of them together. 13The word that Yahweh spoke to Jeremiah the prophet, how that Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon should come and strike the land of Egypt. 14Declare in Egypt, and publish in Migdol, and publish in Memphis and in Tahpanhes: say, Stand up, and prepare; for the sword has devoured around you. 15Why are your strong ones swept away? they didn’t stand, because Yahweh pushed them. 16He made many to stumble, yes, they fell one on another: and they said, Arise, and let us go again to our own people, and to the land of our birth, from the oppressing sword. 17They cried there, Pharaoh king of Egypt is but a noise; he has let the appointed time pass by. 18As I live, says the King, whose name is Yahweh of Armies, surely like Tabor among the mountains, and like Carmel by the sea, so shall he come. 19You daughter who dwells in Egypt, furnish yourself to go into captivity; for Memphis shall become a desolation, and shall be burnt up, without inhabitant. 20Egypt is a very beautiful heifer; but destruction out of the north has come, it has come. 21Also her hired men in the midst of her are like calves of the stall; for they also are turned back, they are fled away together, they didn’t stand: for the day of their calamity has come on them, the time of their visitation. 22The sound of it shall go like the serpent; for they shall march with an army, and come against her with axes, as wood cutters. 23They shall cut down her forest, says Yahweh, though it can’t be searched; because they are more than the locusts, and are innumerable. 24The daughter of Egypt shall be disappointed; she shall be delivered into the hand of the people of the north. 25Yahweh of Armies, the God of Israel, says: Behold, I will punish Amon of No, and Pharaoh, and Egypt, with her gods, and her kings; even Pharaoh, and those who trust in him: 26and I will deliver them into the hand of those who seek their lives, and into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, and into the hand of his servants; and afterwards it shall be inhabited, as in the days of old, says Yahweh. 27But don’t you be afraid, Jacob my servant, neither be dismayed, Israel: for, behold, I will save you from afar, and your seed from the land of their captivity; and Jacob shall return, and shall be quiet and at ease, and no one shall make him afraid. 28Don’t you be afraid, O Jacob my servant, says Yahweh; for I am with you: for I will make a full end of all the nations where I have driven you; but I will not make a full end of you, but I will correct you in measure, and will in no way leave you unpunished.
1Het woord des HEEREN, dat tot den profeet Jeremia geschied is tegen de heidenen. 2Tegen Egypte; tegen het heir van Farao Necho, koning van Egypte, dat aan de rivier Frath, bij Karchemis was, dat Nebukadrezar, de koning van Babel, sloeg, in het vierde jaar van Jojakim, den zoon van Josia, den koning van Juda. 3Rust het schild en de rondas toe, en nadert tot den strijd! 4Spant de paarden aan, en klimt op, gij ruiters! en stelt u met helmen; vaagt de spiesen, trekt de pantsiers aan! 5Waarom zie Ik, dat zij versaagd en achterwaarts gedreven zijn? Zelfs hun helden zijn verslagen, en nemen de vlucht, en zien niet om; er is schrik van rondom, spreekt de HEERE. 6De snelle ontvliede niet, en de held ontkome niet; tegen het noorden, aan den oever der rivier Frath zijn zij gestruikeld en gevallen. 7Wie is deze, die optrekt als een stroom, wiens wateren zich bewegen als de rivieren? 8Egypte trekt op als een stroom, en zijn wateren bewegen zich als de rivieren; en hij zegt: Ik zal optrekken, ik zal de aarde bedekken, ik zal de stad, en die daarin wonen, verderven. 9Trekt op, gij paarden! en raast, gij wagens! en laat de helden uittrekken: de Moren, en de Puteers, die het schild handelen, en de Lydiers, die den boog handelen en spannen. 10Maar deze dag is des HEEREN, des HEEREN der heirscharen, een dag der wrake, dat Hij zich wreke van Zijn wederpartijders, en het zwaard zal vreten, en verzadigd, en dronken worden van hun bloed; want de Heere, HEERE der heirscharen, heeft een slachtoffer in het land van het noorden, aan de rivier Frath. 11Ga henen op naar Gilead, en haal balsem, gij jonkvrouw, dochter van Egypte! Tevergeefs vermenigvuldigt gij de medicijnen, er is geen heling voor u. 12De volken hebben uw schande gehoord, en het land is vol van uw gekrijt; want zij hebben zich gestoten, held tegen held, zij zijn beiden te zamen gevallen. 13Het woord, dat de HEERE tot den profeet Jeremia sprak, van de aankomst van Nebukadrezar, den koning van Babel, om Egypteland te slaan. 14Verkondigt in Egypte, en doet het horen te Migdol; doet het ook horen te Nof en Tachpanhes; zegt: Stelt er u naar, en maakt u gereed, want het zwaard heeft verteerd, wat rondom u is. 15Waarom zijn uw sterken weggeveegd? Zij stonden niet, omdat hen de HEERE voortdreef. 16Hij maakte der struikelenden veel; ja, de een viel op den ander; zodat zij zeiden: Staat op en laat ons wederkeren tot ons volk, en tot het land onzer geboorte, vanwege het verdrukkende zwaard. 17Daar riepen zij: Farao, de koning van Egypte, is maar een gedruis; hij heeft den gezetten tijd laten voorbijgaan. 18Zo waarachtig als Ik leef, spreekt de Koning, Wiens Naam is HEERE der heirscharen; hij zal voorzeker, als Thabor onder de bergen, en als Karmel bij de zee, aankomen! 19Maak voor u gereedschap der gevankelijke wegvoering, gij inwoneres, gij dochter van Egypte! want Nof zal ter verwoesting worden, en zal verbrand worden, dat er niemand in wone. 20Egypte is een zeer schone vaarze; de slachter komt, hij komt van het noorden. 21Zelfs haar gehuurden in haar midden zijn als gemeste kalveren; maar die hebben zich ook gewend, zij zijn te zamen gevlucht, zij hebben niet gestaan; want de dag huns verderfs is over hen gekomen, de tijd hunner bezoeking. 22Haar stem zal gaan als van een slang; want zij zullen met krijgsmacht daarhenen trekken, en tot haar met bijlen komen, gelijk houthouwers. 23Zij hebben haar woud afgehouwen, spreekt de HEERE, hoewel het niet is te onderzoeken; want zij zijn meerder dan de sprinkhanen, zodat men hen niet tellen kan. 24De dochter van Egypte is beschaamd; zij is gegeven in de hand des volks van het noorden. 25De HEERE der heirscharen, de God Israels, zegt: Ziet, Ik zal bezoeking doen over de menigte van No, en over Farao, en over Egypte, en over haar goden, en over haar koningen, ja, over Farao, en over degenen, die op hem vertrouwen. 26En Ik zal hen geven in de hand dergenen, die hunlieder ziel zoeken, en in de hand van Nebukadrezar, den koning van Babel, en in de hand zijner knechten. Maar daarna zal zij bewoond worden als in de dagen van ouds, spreekt de HEERE. 27Maar gij, Mijn knecht Jakob! vrees niet, en ontzet u niet, o Israel! want zie, Ik zal u verlossen uit verre landen, en uw zaad uit het land hunner gevangenis; en Jakob zal wederkomen, en stil en gerust zijn, en niemand zal hem verschrikken. 28Gij dan Mijn knecht Jakob! vrees niet, spreekt de HEERE; want Ik ben met u; want Ik zal een voleinding maken met al de heidenen, waarhenen Ik u gedreven zal hebben, doch met u zal Ik geen voleinding maken, maar u kastijden met mate, en u niet gans onschuldig houden.
