1Είκοσι ετών ηλικίας ήτο ο Άχαζ ότε εβασίλευσε, και εβασίλευσε δεκαέξ έτη εν Ιερουσαλήμ· δεν έπραξεν όμως το ευθές ενώπιον Κυρίου, ως ο Δαβίδ ο πατήρ αυτού· 2αλλά περιεπάτησεν εν ταις οδοίς των βασιλέων του Ισραήλ και έκαμεν έτι είδωλα χωνευτά εις τους Βααλείμ. 3Και αυτός εθυμίασεν εν τη κοιλάδι του υιού Εννόμ και διεβίβασε τα τέκνα αυτού διά του πυρός, κατά τα βδελύγματα των εθνών τα οποία εξεδίωξεν ο Κύριος απ' έμπροσθεν των υιών Ισραήλ. 4Και εθυσίαζε και εθυμίαζεν επί τους υψηλούς τόπους και επί τους λόφους και υποκάτω παντός δένδρου πρασίνου. 5Διά τούτο παρέδωκεν αυτόν Κύριος ο Θεός αυτού εις την χείρα του βασιλέως της Συρίας· και επάταξαν αυτόν, και έλαβον αιχμαλώτους μέγα πλήθος εξ αυτών και έφεραν αυτούς εις Δαμασκόν. Και παρεδόθη έτι εις την χείρα του βασιλέως του Ισραήλ, όστις επάταξεν αυτόν εν σφαγή μεγάλη. 6Διότι Φεκά ο υιός του Ρεμαλία εθανάτωσεν εκ του Ιούδα εκατόν είκοσι χιλιάδας εν μιά ημέρα, πάντας δυνατούς εν ισχύϊ, επειδή εγκατέλιπον Κύριον τον Θεόν των πατέρων αυτών. 7Και Ζιχρί, ανήρ δυνατός εκ του Εφραΐμ, εθανάτωσε Μαασίαν τον υιόν του βασιλέως και Αζρικάμ τον επιστάτην του παλατίου και Ελκανά τον δεύτερον μετά τον βασιλέα. 8Και ηχμαλώτισαν οι υιοί Ισραήλ εκ των αδελφών αυτών διακοσίας χιλιάδας, γυναίκας, υιούς και θυγατέρας, και έλαβον έτι λάφυρα πολλά εξ αυτών και έφεραν τα λάφυρα εις Σαμάρειαν. 9Ήτο δε εκεί προφήτης του Κυρίου, ονομαζόμενος Ωδήδ· και εξήλθεν εις απάντησιν του στρατεύματος του ερχομένου εις Σαμάρειαν και είπε προς αυτούς, Ιδού, επειδή Κύριος ο Θεός των πατέρων σας εθυμώθη κατά του Ιούδα, παρέδωκεν αυτούς εις την χείρα σας· και σεις εθανατώσατε αυτούς εν μανία, ήτις έφθασεν έως του ουρανού· 10και τώρα λέγετε να υποτάξητε εις εαυτούς τους υιούς Ιούδα και της Ιερουσαλήμ διά δούλους και δούλας· δεν είναι με σας, με σας μάλιστα, αμαρτίαι εναντίον Κυρίου του Θεού σας; 11τώρα λοιπόν ακούσατέ μου και επιστρέψατε τους αιχμαλώτους, τους οποίους ηχμαλωτίσατε εκ των αδελφών σας· διότι οργή θυμού Κυρίου επίκειται εις εσάς. 12Και εσηκώθησάν τινές εκ των αρχόντων των υιών Εφραΐμ, Αζαρίας ο υιός του Ιωανάν, Βαραχίας ο υιός του Μεσιλλεμώθ και Εζεκίας ο υιός του Σαλλούμ και Αμασά ο υιός του Αδλαΐ εναντίον των ερχομένων από του πολέμου, 13και είπον προς αυτούς, Δεν θέλετε εισάξει εδώ τους αιχμαλώτους· διότι ενώ ηνομήσαμεν εις Κύριον, θέλετε να προσθέσητε εις τας αμαρτίας ημών και εις τας ανομίας ημών· διότι μεγάλη είναι ανομία ημών, και οργή θυμού επίκειται επί τον Ισραήλ. 14Και αφήκαν οι πολεμισταί τους αιχμαλώτους και τα λάφυρα ενώπιον των αρχόντων και πάσης της συνάξεως. 15Και σηκωθέντες οι άνδρες, οι ονομασθέντες κατ' όνομα, έλαβον τους αιχμαλώτους και πάντας τους γυμνούς αυτών ενέδυσαν εκ των λαφύρων· και αφού ενέδυσαν αυτούς και υπεδημάτωσαν αυτούς και έδωκαν εις αυτούς να φάγωσι και να πίωσι και ήλειψαν αυτούς, και πάντας τους αδυνάτους εξ αυτών μετεκόμισαν επί όνους και έφεραν αυτούς εις Ιεριχώ, την πόλιν των φοινίκων, προς τους αδελφούς αυτών· και επέστρεψαν εις Σαμάρειαν. 16Κατά τον καιρόν εκείνον ο βασιλεύς Άχαζ απέστειλε προς τους βασιλείς της Ασσυρίας, διά να βοηθήσωσιν αυτόν. 17Διότι ελθόντες πάλιν οι Ιδουμαίοι επάταξαν τον Ιούδαν και έλαβον αιχμαλώτους. 18Και εφορμήσαντες οι Φιλισταίοι εις τας πόλεις της πεδινής και της μεσημβρινής του Ιούδα· εκυρίευσαν την Βαιθ-σεμές και την Αιαλών και την Γεδηρώθ, και την Σοκχώ και τας κώμας αυτής, και την Θαμνά και τας κώμας αυτής, και την Γιμζώ και ταις κώμας αυτής· και κατώκησαν εκεί. 19Διότι ο Κύριος εταπείνωσε τον Ιούδαν διά τον Άχαζ βασιλέα του Ισραήλ· επειδή διέφθειρε τον Ιούδαν και ησέβησε σφόδρα εις τον Κύριον. 20Και ήλθε προς αυτόν ο Θελγάθ-φελνασάρ, βασιλεύς της Ασσυρίας, και κατέθλιψεν αυτόν αντί να ενδυναμώση αυτόν. 21Διότι ο Άχαζ, λαβών τους θησαυρούς του οίκου του Κυρίου και του οίκου του βασιλέως και των αρχόντων, έδωκεν εις τον βασιλέα της Ασσυρίας· πλην ουχί εις βοήθειαν αυτού. 22Και εν τω καιρώ της στενοχωρίας αυτού έτι μάλλον παρηνόμησεν εις τον Κύριον αυτός ο βασιλεύς Άχαζ. 23Και εθυσίαζεν εις τους θεούς της Δαμασκού, τους πατάξαντας αυτόν· και έλεγεν, Επειδή οι θεοί του βασιλέως της Συρίας βοηθούσιν αυτούς, εις τούτους θέλω θυσιάσει, διά να βοηθήσωσι και εμέ. Εκείνοι όμως εστάθησαν η φθορά αυτού και παντός του Ισραήλ. 24Και συνήθροισεν ο Άχαζ τα σκεύη του οίκου του Θεού, και κατέκοψε τα σκεύη του οίκου του Θεού και έκλεισε τας θύρας του οίκου του Κυρίου, και έκαμεν εις εαυτόν θυσιαστήρια εν πάση γωνία εν Ιερουσαλήμ. 25Και εν πάση πόλει του Ιούδα έκαμεν υψηλούς τόπους, διά να θυμιάζη εις άλλους θεούς, και παρώργισε Κύριον τον Θεόν των πατέρων αυτού. 26Αι δε λοιπαί πράξεις αυτού και πάσαι αι οδοί αυτού, αι πρώται και αι έσχαται, ιδού, είναι γεγραμμέναι εν τω βιβλίω των βασιλέων του Ιούδα και Ισραήλ. 27Και εκοιμήθη ο Άχαζ μετά των πατέρων αυτού, και έθαψαν αυτόν εν τη πόλει, εν Ιερουσαλήμ· δεν έφεραν όμως αυτόν εις τους τάφους των βασιλέων του Ισραήλ· εβασίλευσε δε αντ' αυτού Εζεκίας ο υιός αυτού.
1Ahaz was twenty years old when he began to reign; and he reigned sixteen years in Jerusalem: and he didn’t do that which was right in the eyes of Yahweh, like David his father; 2but he walked in the ways of the kings of Israel, and made also molten images for the Baals. 3Moreover he burnt incense in the valley of the son of Hinnom, and burnt his children in the fire, according to the abominations of the nations whom Yahweh cast out before the children of Israel. 4He sacrificed and burnt incense in the high places, and on the hills, and under every green tree. 5Therefore Yahweh his God delivered him into the hand of the king of Syria; and they struck him, and carried away of his a great multitude of captives, and brought them to Damascus. He was also delivered into the hand of the king of Israel, who struck him with a great slaughter. 6For Pekah the son of Remaliah killed in Judah one hundred twenty thousand in one day, all of them valiant men; because they had forsaken Yahweh, the God of their fathers. 7Zichri, a mighty man of Ephraim, killed Maaseiah the king’s son, and Azrikam the ruler of the house, and Elkanah who was next to the king. 8The children of Israel carried away captive of their brothers two hundred thousand, women, sons, and daughters, and took also away much plunder from them, and brought the plunder to Samaria. 9But a prophet of Yahweh was there, whose name was Oded: and he went out to meet the army that came to Samaria, and said to them, “Behold, because Yahweh, the God of your fathers, was angry with Judah, he has delivered them into your hand, and you have slain them in a rage which has reached up to heaven. 10Now you purpose to keep under the children of Judah and Jerusalem for male and female slaves for yourselves. Aren’t there even with you trespasses of your own against Yahweh your God? 11Now hear me therefore, and send back the captives, that you have taken captive from your brothers; for the fierce wrath of Yahweh is on you.” 12Then some of the heads of the children of Ephraim, Azariah the son of Johanan, Berechiah the son of Meshillemoth, and Jehizkiah the son of Shallum, and Amasa the son of Hadlai, stood up against those who came from the war, 13and said to them, “You shall not bring in the captives here: for you purpose that which will bring on us a trespass against Yahweh, to add to our sins and to our trespass; for our trespass is great, and there is fierce wrath against Israel.” 14So the armed men left the captives and the plunder before the princes and all the assembly. 15The men who have been mentioned by name rose up, and took the captives, and with the plunder clothed all who were naked among them, dressed them, gave them sandals, and gave them something to eat and to drink, anointed them, carried all the feeble of them on donkeys, and brought them to Jericho, the city of palm trees, to their brothers. Then they returned to Samaria. 16At that time king Ahaz sent to the kings of Assyria to help him. 17For again the Edomites had come and struck Judah, and carried away captives. 18The Philistines also had invaded the cities of the lowland, and of the South of Judah, and had taken Beth Shemesh, and Aijalon, and Gederoth, and Soco with its towns, and Timnah with its towns, Gimzo also and its towns: and they lived there. 19For Yahweh brought Judah low because of Ahaz king of Israel; for he had dealt wantonly in Judah, and trespassed severely against Yahweh. 20Tilgath Pilneser king of Assyria came to him, and distressed him, but didn’t strengthen him. 21For Ahaz took away a portion out of Yahweh’s house, and out of the house of the king and of the princes, and gave it to the king of Assyria: but it didn’t help him. 22In the time of his distress, he trespassed yet more against Yahweh, this same king Ahaz. 23For he sacrificed to the gods of Damascus, which struck him; and he said, “Because the gods of the kings of Syria helped them, so I will sacrifice to them, that they may help me.” But they were the ruin of him, and of all Israel. 24Ahaz gathered together the vessels of God’s house, and cut in pieces the vessels of God’s house, and shut up the doors of Yahweh’s house; and he made him altars in every corner of Jerusalem. 25In every city of Judah he made high places to burn incense to other gods, and provoked to anger Yahweh, the God of his fathers. 26Now the rest of his acts, and all his ways, first and last, behold, they are written in the book of the kings of Judah and Israel. 27Ahaz slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the city, even in Jerusalem; for they didn’t bring him into the tombs of the kings of Israel: and Hezekiah his son reigned in his place.

Bij ulieden zijn schulden tegen den HEERE, uw God. 11Nu dan, hoort mij, en brengt de gevangenen weder, die gij van uw broederen gevankelijk weggevoerd hebt; want de hitte van des HEEREN toorn is over u. 12Toen maakten zich mannen op van de hoofden der kinderen van Efraim, Azaria, de zoon van Johanan, Berechja, de zoon van Mesillemoth en Jehizkia, de zoon van Sallum, en Amasa, de zoon van Hadlai, tegen degenen, die uit het heir kwamen. 13En zij zeiden tot hen: Gij zult deze gevangenen hier niet inbrengen, tot een schuld over ons tegen den HEERE; denkt gijlieden toe te doen tot onze zonden en tot onze schulden, hoewel wij vele schulden hebben, en de hitte des toorns over Israel is? 14Toen lieten de toegerusten de gevangenen en de roof voor het aangezicht der oversten en der ganse gemeente. 15De mannen nu, die met namen uitgedrukt zijn, maakten zich op, en grepen de gevangenen, en kleedden van den roof al hun naakten; en zij kleedden hen, en schoeiden hen, en spijsden hen, en drenkten hen, en zalfden hen, en voerden ze op ezelen, allen die zwak waren, en brachten hen te Jericho, de Palmstad, bij hun broederen; daarna keerden zij weder naar Samaria. 16Ter zelfder tijd zond de koning Achaz tot de koningen van Assyrie, dat zij hem helpen zouden. 17Daarenboven waren ook de Edomieten gekomen, en hadden Juda geslagen en gevangenen gevankelijk weggevoerd. 18Daartoe waren de Filistijnen in de steden der laagte en het zuiden van Juda ingevallen, en hadden ingenomen Beth-Semes, en Ajalon, en Gederoth, en Socho en haar onderhorige plaatsen, en Timna en haar onderhorige plaatsen, en Gimzo en haar onderhorige plaatsen; en zij woonden aldaar. 19Want de HEERE vernederde Juda, om der wille van Achaz, den koning Israels; want hij had Juda afgetrokken, dat het gans zeer overtrad tegen den HEERE. 20En Tiglath-Pilneser, de koning van Assyrie, kwam tot hem; doch hij benauwde hem, en sterkte hem niet. 21Want Achaz nam een deel van het huis des HEEREN, en van het huis des konings en der vorsten, hetwelk hij den koning van Assyrie gaf; maar hij hielp hem niet. 22Ja, ter tijd, als men hem benauwde, zo maakte hij des overtredens tegen den HEERE nog meer; dit was de koning Achaz. 23Want hij offerde den goden van Damaskus, die hem geslagen hadden, en zeide: Omdat de goden der koningen van Syrie hen helpen, zal ik hun offeren, opdat zij mij ook helpen; maar zij waren hem tot zijn val, mitsgaders aan gans Israel. 24En Achaz verzamelde de vaten van het huis Gods, en hieuw de vaten van het huis Gods in stukken, en sloot de deuren van het huis des HEEREN toe; daartoe maakte hij zich altaren in alle hoeken van Jeruzalem. 25Ook maakte hij in elke stad van Juda hoogten, om anderen goden te roken; alzo verwekte hij den HEERE, zijner vaderen God, tot toorn. 26Het overige nu der geschiedenissen, en al zijn wegen, de eerste en de laatste, ziet, zij zijn geschreven in het boek der koningen van Juda en Israel. 27En Achaz ontsliep met zijn vaderen, en zij begroeven hem in de stad te Jeruzalem; maar zij brachten hem niet in de graven der koningen van Israel; en zijn zoon Jehizkia werd koning in zijn plaats.
