1Εικοσιπέντε ετών ηλικίας εβασίλευσεν ο Αμασίας, και εβασίλευσεν εικοσιεννέα έτη εν Ιερουσαλήμ· το δε όνομα της μητρός αυτού ήτο Ιωαδάν, εξ Ιερουσαλήμ. 2Και έπραξε το ευθές ενώπιον Κυρίου, πλην ουχί εν καρδία τελεία. 3Ως δε η βασιλεία εκραταιώθη εις αυτόν, εθανάτωσε τους δούλους αυτού τους φονεύσαντας τον βασιλέα τον πατέρα αυτού· 4τα τέκνα όμως αυτών δεν εθανάτωσεν, ως είναι γεγραμμένον εν τω νόμω, εν τω βιβλίω του Μωϋσέως, όπου ο Κύριος προσέταξε, λέγων, οι πατέρες δεν θέλουσι θανατόνεσθαι διά τα τέκνα, ουδέ τα τέκνα θέλουσι θανατόνεσθαι διά τους πατέρας· αλλ' έκαστος θέλει θανατόνεσθαι διά το εαυτού αμάρτημα. 5Και συνήγαγεν ο Αμασίας τον Ιούδαν, και κατέστησεν εξ αυτών χιλιάρχους και εκατοντάρχους, κατ' οίκους πατριών, διά παντός του Ιούδα και Βενιαμίν· και ηρίθμησεν αυτούς από είκοσι ετών και επάνω, και εύρηκεν αυτούς τριακοσίας χιλιάδας, εκλεκτούς, εξερχομένους εις πόλεμον, κρατούντας λόγχην και ασπίδα. 6Εμίσθωσεν έτι εκ του Ισραήλ εκατόν χιλιάδας δυνατών εν ισχύϊ, δι' εκατόν τάλαντα αργυρίου. 7Ήλθε δε προς αυτόν άνθρωπος του Θεού, λέγων, Βασιλεύ, ας μη έλθη μετά σου το στράτευμα του Ισραήλ· διότι ο Κύριος δεν είναι μετά του Ισραήλ, μετά πάντων των υιών Εφραΐμ· 8αλλ' εάν θέλης να υπάγης, κάμε τούτο· ενδυναμώθητι διά τον πόλεμον· ο Θεός όμως θέλει σε κατατροπώσει έμπροσθεν του εχθρού· διότι ο Θεός έχει δύναμιν να βοηθήση και να κατατροπώση. 9Ο δε Αμασίας είπε προς τον άνθρωπον του Θεού, Αλλά τι θέλομεν κάμει διά τα εκατόν τάλαντα, τα οποία έδωκα εις το στράτευμα του Ισραήλ; Και ο άνθρωπος του Θεού απεκρίθη, Ο Κύριος είναι δυνατός να δώση εις σε πλειότερα τούτων. 10Τότε διεχώρισεν αυτούς ο Αμασίας, το στράτευμα το ελθόν προς αυτόν εκ του Εφραΐμ, διά να επιστρέψωσιν εις τον τόπον αυτών· και εξήφθη σφόδρα ο θυμός αυτών κατά του Ιούδα, και επέστρεψαν εις τον τόπον αυτών με έξαψιν θυμού. 11Ενεδυναμώθη δε ο Αμασίας και εξήγαγε τον λαόν αυτού και υπήγεν εις την κοιλάδα του άλατος και επάταξε τους υιούς Σηείρ δέκα χιλιάδας. 12Και δέκα χιλιάδας ζώντας ηχμαλώτισαν οι υιοί Ιούδα, και έφεραν αυτούς εις το άκρον του κρημνού και κατεκρήμνιζον αυτούς από του άκρου του κρημνού, ώστε πάντες διερράγησαν. 13Οι άνδρες όμως του στρατεύματος, το οποίον απέπεμψεν ο Αμασίας, διά να μη υπάγωσι μετ' αυτού εις πόλεμον, επέπεσον επί τας πόλεις του Ιούδα, από Σαμαρείας έως Βαιθ-ωρών, και επάταξαν τρεις χιλιάδας εξ αυτών και έλαβον λάφυρα πολλά. 14Αφού δε ο Αμασίας επέστρεψεν από της σφαγής των Ιδουμαίων, έφερε τους θεούς των υιών Σηείρ και έστησεν αυτούς εις εαυτόν θεούς και προσεκύνησεν έμπροσθεν αυτών και εθυμίασεν εις αυτούς. 15Διά τούτο εξήφθη η οργή του Κυρίου κατά του Αμασίου· και απέστειλε προς αυτόν προφήτην και είπε προς αυτόν, Διά τι εξεζήτησας τους θεούς του λαού, οίτινες δεν ηδυνήθησαν να ελευθερώσωσι τον λαόν αυτών εκ της χειρός σου; 16Και ενώ ελάλει προς αυτόν, ο βασιλεύς είπε προς αυτόν, Σύμβουλον σε έκαμον του βασιλέως; παύσον· διά τι να θανατωθής; Και έπαυσεν ο προφήτης, ειπών, Εξεύρω ότι ο Θεός εβουλεύθη να σε εξολοθρεύση, επειδή έκαμες τούτο και δεν υπήκουσας εις την συμβουλήν μου. 17Τότε συνεβουλεύθη Αμασίας ο βασιλεύς του Ιούδα και απέστειλε προς τον Ιωάς υιόν του Ιωάχαζ, υιού του Ιηού, τον βασιλέα του Ισραήλ, λέγων, Ελθέ, να ίδωμεν αλλήλους προσωπικώς. 18Και απέστειλεν Ιωάς ο βασιλεύς του Ισραήλ προς τον Αμασίαν βασιλέα του Ιούδα, λέγων, Η άκανθα η εν τω Λιβάνω απέστειλε προς την κέδρον την εν τω Λιβάνω, λέγουσα, Δος την θυγατέρα σου εις τον υιόν μου διά γυναίκα· πλην διέβη θηρίον του αγρού το εν τω Λιβάνω, και κατεπάτησε την άκανθαν. 19Συ λέγεις, ιδού, επάταξας τον Εδώμ· και η καρδία σου επήρθη εις καύχησιν· κάθου τώρα εν τω οίκω σου· διά τι εμπλέκεσαι εις κακόν, διά το οποίον ήθελες πέσει, συ και ο Ιούδας μετά σου; 20Αλλ' ο Αμασίας δεν υπήκουσε· διότι εκ Θεού ήτο τούτο, διά να παραδώση αυτούς εις την χείρα των εχθρών, επειδή εξεζήτησαν τους θεούς του Εδώμ. 21Ανέβη λοιπόν Ιωάς ο βασιλεύς του Ισραήλ· και είδον αλλήλους προσωπικώς, αυτός και Αμασίας ο βασιλεύς του Ιούδα, εν Βαιθ-σεμές, ήτις είναι του Ιούδα. 22Και εκτυπήθη ο Ιούδας έμπροσθεν του Ισραήλ, και έφυγον έκαστος εις τας σκηνάς αυτού. 23Και συνέλαβεν Ιωάς ο βασιλεύς του Ισραήλ Αμασίαν τον βασιλέα του Ιούδα, υιόν του Ιωάς υιού του Ιωάχαζ, εν Βαιθ-σεμές, και έφερεν αυτόν εις Ιερουσαλήμ και κατεδάφισε το τείχος της Ιερουσαλήμ από της πύλης Εφραΐμ έως της πύλης της γωνίας, τετρακοσίας πήχας. 24Και λαβών παν το χρυσίον και το αργύριον και πάντα τα σκεύη τα ευρεθέντα εν τω οίκω του Θεού μετά του Ωβήδ-εδώμ, και τους θησαυρούς του οίκου του βασιλέως, και ανθρώπους ενέχυρα, επέστρεψεν εις Σαμάρειαν. 25Έζησε δε Αμασίας ο υιός του Ιωάς ο βασιλεύς του Ιούδα, μετά τον θάνατον του Ιωάς υιού του Ιωάχαζ βασιλέως του Ισραήλ, δεκαπέντε έτη. 26Αι δε λοιπαί πράξεις του Αμασίου, αι πρώται και αι έσχαται, ιδού, δεν είναι γεγραμμέναι εν τω βιβλίω των βασιλέων του Ιούδα και του Ισραήλ; 1Amaziah was twenty-five years old when he began to reign; and he reigned twenty-nine years in Jerusalem: and his mother’s name was Jehoaddan, of Jerusalem. 2He did that which was right in the eyes of Yahweh, but not with a perfect heart. 3Now when the kingdom was established to him, he killed his servants who had killed the king his father. 4But he didn’t put their children to death, but did according to that which is written in the law in the book of Moses, as Yahweh commanded, saying, “The fathers shall not die for the children, neither shall the children die for the fathers; but every man shall die for his own sin.” 5Moreover Amaziah gathered Judah together, and ordered them according to their fathers’ houses, under captains of thousands and captains of hundreds, even all Judah and Benjamin: and he numbered them from twenty years old and upward, and found them three hundred thousand chosen men, able to go out to war, who could handle spear and shield. 6He hired also one hundred thousand mighty men of valor out of Israel for one hundred talents of silver. 7A man of God came to him, saying, “O king, don’t let the army of Israel go with you; for Yahweh is not with Israel, with all the children of Ephraim. 8But if you will go, take action, be strong for the battle. God will overthrow you before the enemy; for God has power to help, and to overthrow.” 9Amaziah said to the man of God, “But what shall we do for the hundred talents which I have given to the army of Israel?” The man of God answered, “Yahweh is able to give you much more than this.” 10Then Amaziah separated them, the army that had come to him out of Ephraim, to go home again: therefore their anger was greatly kindled against Judah, and they returned home in fierce anger. 11Amaziah took courage, and led his people out, and went to the Valley of Salt, and struck ten thousand of the children of Seir. 12The children of Judah carry away ten thousand alive, and brought them to the top of the rock, and threw them down from the top of the rock, so that they all were broken in pieces. 13But the men of the army whom Amaziah sent back, that they should not go with him to battle, fell on the cities of Judah, from Samaria even to Beth Horon, and struck of them three thousand, and took much plunder. 14Now after Amaziah had come from the slaughter of the Edomites, he brought the gods of the children of Seir, and set them up to be his gods, and bowed down himself before them, and burned incense to them. 15Therefore Yahweh’s anger was kindled against Amaziah, and he sent to him a prophet, who said to him, “Why have you sought after the gods of the people, which have not delivered their own people out of your hand?” 16As he talked with him, the king said to him, “Have we made you one of the king’s counselors? Stop! Why should you be struck down?” Then the prophet stopped, and said, “I know that God has determined to destroy you, because you have done this, and have not listened to my counsel.” 17Then Amaziah king of Judah consulted his advisers, and sent to Joash, the son of Jehoahaz the son of Jehu, king of Israel, saying, “Come, let us look one another in the face.” 18Joash king of Israel sent to Amaziah king of Judah, saying, “The thistle that was in Lebanon sent to the cedar that was in Lebanon, saying, ‘Give your daughter to my son as his wife; then a wild animal that was in Lebanon passed by, and trampled down the thistle. 19You say to yourself that you have struck Edom; and your heart lifts you up to boast. Now stay at home. Why should you meddle with trouble, that you should fall, even you, and Judah with you?’” 20But Amaziah would not listen; for it was of God, that he might deliver them into the hand of their enemies, because they had sought after the gods of Edom. 21So Joash king of Israel went up; and he and Amaziah king of Judah looked one another in the face at Beth Shemesh, which belongs to Judah. 22Judah was defeated by Israel; and they fled every man to his tent. 23Joash king of Israel took Amaziah king of Judah, the son of Joash the son of Jehoahaz, at Beth Shemesh, and brought him to Jerusalem, and broke down the wall of Jerusalem from the gate of Ephraim to the corner gate, four hundred cubits. 24He took all the gold and silver, and all the vessels that were found in God’s house with Obed-Edom, and the treasures of the king’s house, the hostages also, and returned to Samaria. 25Amaziah the son of Joash king of Judah lived after the death of Joash son of Jehoahaz king of Israel fifteen years. 26Now the rest of the acts of Amaziah, first and last, behold, aren’t they written in the book of the kings of Judah and Israel? 27Now from the time that Amaziah turned away from following Yahweh, they made a conspiracy against him in Jerusalem. He fled to Lachish; but they sent after him to Lachish, and killed him there. 28They brought him on horses, and buried him with his fathers in the city of Judah.

Toen hield de profeet op, en zeide: Ik merk, dat God besloten heeft u te verderven, dewijl gij dit gedaan, en naar mijn raad niet gehoord hebt. 17En Amazia, de koning van Juda, werd te rade, dat hij zond tot Joas, den zoon van Joahaz, den zoon van Jehu, den koning van Israel, om te zeggen: Kom, laat ons elkanders aangezicht zien. 18Maar Joas, de koning van Israel, zond tot Amazia, den koning van Juda, om te zeggen: De distel, die op den Libanon is, zond tot den ceder, die op den Libanon is, om te zeggen: Geef uw dochter mijn zoon ter vrouw; maar het gedierte des velds, dat op den Libanon is, ging voorbij, en vertrad de distel. 19Gij zegt: Zie, gij hebt de Edomieten geslagen; daarom heeft uw hart u verheven, om te roemen; nu, blijf in uw huis; waarom zoudt gij u in het kwaad mengen, dat gij vallen zoudt; gij en Juda met u? 20Doch Amazia hoorde niet, want het was van God, opdat Hij hen in hun hand gave, overmits zij de goden der Edomieten gezocht hadden. 21Zo toog Joas, de koning van Israel, op, en hij en Amazia, de koning van Juda, zagen elkanders aangezichten te Beth-Semes, dat in Juda is. 22En Juda werd geslagen voor het aangezicht van Israel; en zij vloden een iegelijk in zijn tenten. 23En Joas, de koning van Israel, greep Amazia, den koning van Juda, den zoon van Joas, den zoon van Joahaz, te Beth-Semes; en hij bracht hem te Jeruzalem, en hij brak aan den muur van Jeruzalem, van de poort van Efraim tot aan de Hoekpoort, vierhonderd ellen. 24Daartoe nam hij al het goud, en het zilver, en al de vaten, die in het huis Gods gevonden werden, bij Obed-Edom, en de schatten van het huis des konings, mitsgaders gijzelaars, en hij keerde weder naar Samaria. 25Amazia nu, de zoon van Joas, de koning van Juda, leefde na den dood van Joas, den zoon van Joahaz, den koning van Israel, vijftien jaren. 26Het overige nu der geschiedenissen van Amazia, de eerste en de laatste, ziet, zijn die niet geschreven in het boek der koningen van Juda en Israel? 27Van den tijd nu af, dat Amazia afgeweken was van achter den HEERE, zo maakten zij in Jeruzalem een verbintenis tegen hem; doch hij vluchtte naar Lachis. Toen zonden zij hem na tot Lachis, en doodden hem aldaar. 28En zij brachten hem op paarden, en begroeven hem bij zijn vaderen in de stad van Juda.
