1Και ελθών ο Ροβοάμ εις Ιερουσαλήμ, συνήθροισε τον οίκον Ιούδα και Βενιαμίν, εκατόν ογδοήκοντα χιλιάδας εκλεκτών πολεμιστών, διά να πολεμήσωσι κατά του Ισραήλ, όπως επαναφέρωσι την βασιλείαν εις τον Ροβοάμ. 2Έγεινεν όμως λόγος Κυρίου προς τον Σεμαΐαν, άνθρωπον του Θεού, λέγων, 3Λάλησον προς Ροβοάμ τον υιόν του Σολομώντος, τον βασιλέα του Ιούδα, και προς πάντα τον Ισραήλ εν Ιούδα και Βενιαμίν, λέγων, 4Ούτω λέγει Κύριος· Δεν θέλετε αναβή ουδέ πολεμήσει εναντίον των αδελφών σας· επιστρέψατε έκαστος εις τον οίκον αυτού, διότι παρ' εμού έγεινε το πράγμα τούτο. Και υπήκουσαν εις τους λόγους του Κυρίου και απεστράφησαν από του να υπάγωσι κατά του Ιεροβοάμ. 5Και κατώκησεν ο Ροβοάμ εν Ιερουσαλήμ και ωκοδόμησε πόλεις οχυράς εν Ιούδα. 6Και ωκοδόμησε την Βηθλεέμ και την Ητάμ και την Θεκουέ 7και την Βαιθ-σούρ και την Σοκχώ και την Οδολλάμ 8και την Γαθ και την Μαρησά και την Ζιφ 9και την Αδωραΐμ και την Λαχείς και την Αζηκά 10και την Σαραά και την Αιαλών και την Χεβρών, αίτινες είναι εν Ιούδα και εν Βενιαμίν, πόλεις ωχυρωμέναι. 11Και ωχύρωσε τα φρούρια, και έβαλεν εις αυτά φρουράρχους και αποθήκας τροφών και ελαίου και οίνου. 12Και εις πάσαν πόλιν έβαλεν ασπίδας και λόγχας, και ωχύρωσεν αυτάς πολύ σφόδρα. Και ήσαν υπ' αυτόν ο Ιούδας και ο Βενιαμίν. 13Και οι ιερείς και οι Λευΐται οι εν παντί τω Ισραήλ συνήχθησαν προς αυτόν, εκ πάντων των ορίων αυτών. 14Διότι οι Λευΐται εγκατέλιπον τα προάστεια αυτών και τας ιδιοκτησίας αυτών, και ήλθον εις τον Ιούδαν και εις την Ιερουσαλήμ· επειδή ο Ιεροβοάμ και οι υιοί αυτού είχον αποβάλει αυτούς από του να ιερατεύωσιν εις τον Κύριον· 15και κατέστησεν εις εαυτόν ιερείς διά τους υψηλούς τόπους και διά τους δαίμονας και διά τους μόσχους, τους οποίους έκαμε· 16και μετ' αυτούς, όσοι εκ πασών των φυλών του Ισραήλ έδωκαν τας καρδίας αυτών εις το να ζητώσι Κύριον τον Θεόν του Ισραήλ, ήλθον εις Ιερουσαλήμ, διά να θυσιάσωσιν εις Κύριον τον Θεόν των πατέρων αυτών. 17Και κατίσχυσαν την βασιλείαν του Ιούδα και ισχυροποίησαν τον Ροβοάμ τον υιόν του Σολομώντος, τρία έτη· διότι τρία έτη περιεπάτησαν εν τη οδώ του Δαβίδ και του Σολομώντος. 18Έλαβε δε ο Ροβοάμ εις εαυτόν γυναίκα την Μαελέθ, θυγατέρα του Ιεριμώθ υιού του Δαβίδ, και την Αβιχαίλ, θυγατέρα του Ελιάβ υιού του Ιεσσαί· 19ήτις εγέννησεν εις αυτόν υιούς, τον Ιεούς και τον Σαμαρίαν και τον Ζαάμ. 20Και μετ' αυτήν έλαβε την Μααχά θυγατέρα του Αβεσσαλώμ, ήτις εγέννησεν εις αυτόν τον Αβιά και τον Ατθαΐ και τον Ζιζά και τον Σελωμείθ. 21Και ηγάπησεν ο Ροβοάμ την Μααχά θυγατέρα του Αβεσσαλώμ υπέρ πάσας τας γυναίκας αυτού και τας παλλακάς αυτού· διότι έλαβε δεκαοκτώ γυναίκας και εξήκοντα παλλακάς· και εγέννησεν εικοσιοκτώ υιούς και εξήκοντα θυγατέρας· 22και κατέστησεν ο Ροβοάμ άρχοντα τον Αβιά τον υιόν της Μααχά, διά να άρχη επί τους αδελφούς αυτού· διότι εστοχάζετο να κάμη αυτόν βασιλέα· 23και ποιών φρονίμως διέσπειρε πάντας τους υιούς αυτού εις πάντας τους τόπους Ιούδα και Βενιαμίν, εις πάσαν οχυράν πόλιν· και έδωκεν εις αυτούς τροφάς εν αφθονία και εζήτησε πολλάς γυναίκας.
1When Rehoboam had come to Jerusalem, he assembled the house of Judah and Benjamin, one hundred eighty thousand chosen men, who were warriors, to fight against Israel, to bring the kingdom again to Rehoboam. 2But Yahweh’s word came to Shemaiah the man of God, saying, 3“Speak to Rehoboam the son of Solomon, king of Judah, and to all Israel in Judah and Benjamin, saying, 4‘Thus says Yahweh, “You shall not go up, nor fight against your brothers! Return every man to his house; for this thing is of me.”’” So they listened to Yahweh’s words, and returned from going against Jeroboam. 5Rehoboam lived in Jerusalem, and built cities for defense in Judah. 6He built Bethlehem, and Etam, and Tekoa, 7Beth Zur, and Soco, and Adullam, 8and Gath, and Mareshah, and Ziph, 9and Adoraim, and Lachish, and Azekah, 10and Zorah, and Aijalon, and Hebron, which are in Judah and in Benjamin, fortified cities. 11He fortified the strongholds, and put captains in them, and stores of food, and oil and wine. 12He put shields and spears in every city, and made them exceeding strong. Judah and Benjamin belonged to him. 13The priests and the Levites who were in all Israel resorted to him out of all their border. 14For the Levites left their suburbs and their possession, and came to Judah and Jerusalem: for Jeroboam and his sons cast them off, that they should not execute the priest’s office to Yahweh; 15and he appointed him priests for the high places, and for the male goats, and for the calves which he had made. 16After them, out of all the tribes of Israel, such as set their hearts to seek Yahweh, the God of Israel, came to Jerusalem to sacrifice to Yahweh, the God of their fathers. 17So they strengthened the kingdom of Judah, and made Rehoboam the son of Solomon strong, three years; for they walked three years in the way of David and Solomon. 18Rehoboam took him a wife, Mahalath the daughter of Jerimoth the son of David, and of Abihail the daughter of Eliab the son of Jesse; 19and she bore him sons: Jeush, and Shemariah, and Zaham. 20After her he took Maacah the daughter of Absalom; and she bore him Abijah, and Attai, and Ziza, and Shelomith. 21Rehoboam loved Maacah the daughter of Absalom above all his wives and his concubines: (for he took eighteen wives, and sixty concubines, and became the father of twenty-eight sons and sixty daughters.) 22Rehoboam appointed Abijah the son of Maacah to be chief, the prince among his brothers; for he intended to make him king. 23He dealt wisely, and dispersed of all his sons throughout all the lands of Judah and Benjamin, to every fortified city: and he gave them food in abundance. He sought for them many wives.

En zij hoorden de woorden des HEEREN, en zij keerden weder van tegen Jerobeam te trekken. 5Rehabeam nu woonde te Jeruzalem; en hij bouwde steden tot vastigheden in Juda. 6Hij bouwde nu Bethlehem, en Etham, en Thekoa, 7En Beth-Zur, en Socho, en Adullam, 8En Gath, en Maresa, en Zif, 9En Adoraim, en Lachis, en Azeka, 10En Zora, en Ajalon, en Hebron; dewelke in Juda en in Benjamin de vaste steden waren. 11En hij sterkte deze vastigheden, en legde oversten daarin, en schatten van spijs, en olie, en wijn; 12En in elke stad rondassen en spiesen, en sterkte ze gans zeer; zo was Juda, en Benjamin zijne. 13Daartoe de priesteren en de Levieten, die in het ganse Israel waren, stelden zich bij hem uit al hun landpalen. 14Want de Levieten verlieten hun voorsteden en hun bezitting, en kwamen in Juda en in Jeruzalem; want Jerobeam en zijn zonen hadden hen verstoten, van het priesterdom des HEEREN te mogen bedienen. 15En hij had zich priesteren gesteld voor de hoogte, en voor de duivelen, en voor de kalveren, die hij gemaakt had. 16Na die kwamen ook uit alle stammen van Israel te Jeruzalem, die hun hart begaven, om den HEERE, den God Israels, te zoeken, dat zij den HEERE, den God hunner vaderen, offerande deden. 17Alzo sterkten zij het koninkrijk van Juda, en bekrachtigden Rehabeam, den zoon van Salomo, drie jaren; want drie jaren wandelden zij in den weg van David, en Salomo. 18En Rehabeam nam zich, benevens Mahalath, de dochter van Jerimoth, den zoon van David, ter vrouwe Abihail, de dochter van Eliab, den zoon van Isai, 19Dewelke hem zonen baarde, Jeus, en Semaria, en Zaham. 20En na haar nam hij Maacha, de dochter van Absalom; deze baarde hem Abia, en Attai, en Ziza, en Selomith. 21En Rehabeam had Maacha, Absaloms dochter, liever dan al zijn vrouwen en zijn bijwijven; want hij had achttien vrouwen genomen, en zestig bijwijven; en hij gewon acht en twintig zonen en zestig dochteren. 22En Rehabeam stelde Abia, den zoon van Maacha, tot een hoofd, om een overste te zijn onder zijn broederen; want het was om hem koning te maken. 23En hij handelde verstandelijk, dat hij van al zijn zonen, door alle landen van Juda en Benjamin, in alle vaste steden verspreidde, denwelken hij spijze gaf in overvloed; en hij begeerde de veelheid van vrouwen.
